Battery Drain!! - LG Thrill 4G

Why is the battery drain on this phone soo bad?! I bought a 3900mah extended battery and i still cannot go a whole day without killing my battery! WTF, and i dont even use it that much. Im on stock Gingerbread v20p update.

look at your battery stats
i have noticed that in my battery states that my phone stays "AWAKE" even when the screen is turned off for an extended period of time. I noticed that YAHOO! Mail app has a tendency of running constantly in the background keeping it awake. I noticed better life after uninstalling it.
SETTINGS / APPLICATIONS/ BATTERY USE then click on the small graph and tilt your phone to see it in landscape. Notice the change in the graph when your phone is awake vs. asleep.
I wish there was an app that told me when certain programs keep your phone "AWAKE" when the screen is off. That IMO, is the the real culprit!

Had a similar issue. Found google maps feasting on my battery when I wasn't looking. Kept turning it off but it would just turn back on till I noticed again. I figured out it was other apps with location services kicking it on. So I found a handy permissions editor from the play store and blocked the permissions to any app that wanted a location service. I also uninstalled any redundant apps that where stock but never used. Just went all day today on the stock battery with no need to charge.

i saw on other forums that an XDA developer wrote a great app called BETTERBATTERYSTATS. search XDA for it. it is free, but if you get it off of Google play it will cost a few dollars.
Using it I noticed that my Wifi was trying to turn itself on, but for some reason, at times, my wifi will not connect. if you force it, it just blinks at you 5 times and never turns on. Well, I think that some apps that use your wifi will turn it on, then if it wont connect, it continues to try until your battery dies.
I've had this issue with Bluetooth at times too. So since i rooted my phone, i have installed QUICKBOOT for those times to do a fast reboot which fixes wifi and bluetooth.
I have also purchased TASKER and told my phone to reboot at 3am every night. I still watch the betterbatterystats app to keep an eye on it and it seems to be fine.
i am also running the optimus 3D Gingerbread rom v21E on my Thrill and not the v20P AT&T stock rom. I had ghost call issues with AT&T's rom. (calls that people would make to me and the phone would never ring or show that they called). Hope this helps. With this rom i get 4g speeds (up to 10Mb) but not LTE speeds which is just a hair faster.
Think about adding Juice defender too to your catalog. recently i got my battery to last almost 24 hours!

[Q] Why won't my N1 battery last more then half a day?

Hi I'm with Fido using an AT&T N1. My battery doesn't last me a full day. I thought maybe it was a defective battery, so I ordered a new one. This didn't solve my issue. I still have to charge it early in the afternoon and It's not like I'm watching video's it's just sitting there on my desk.
Anybody having the same problems or has a solution?
Thanks
Check what's using your battery, and act accordingly.
Are you on the wifis when it is at your desk? If not, how many bars of reception are you getting?
Root, undervolted kernel, more efficient roms, sync settings, apn control, brightness settings, battery calibration.
Welcome to android
Were all searching for ways to make our phones last longer/dynamic/faster.

It says 67% of use is display, I set it to shut off after 30 seconds.
The wifi and BT are off.
Another thing I find weird. I have the dock. Every time i remove it from the dock and have to draw the password pattern, it's like the screen calibration is messed up. I have to close the screen and open it to get it working properly. This also makes it impossible to answer the phone when it rings while it's docked. I remove the phone and the slide to answer doesn't work as if it's not calibrated.
Check that your CPU isn't running at 100% frequency because of some rogue app.
Check that your phone has at least a couple of bars reception.
My N1 on AT&T runs 4.5%/hr usage when I'm not actively using it, around 6% if I'm doing typical stuff with it (reading email, web, etc).
It's on 3G, rarely use wifi (it's off), GPS is on, Bluetooth is on, K9 Mail is doing Push IMAP, Beautiful Weather is updating, misc other stuff is likely updating. Tasker is running doing lots of stuff, one of them is grabbing my GPS location and uploading it to my website every 10 minutes.
No IM, Facebook, or Twitter automatically running/updating.
I don't obsess over the screen brightness, generally leave it at Auto except when doing navigation in the car (It's never bright enough during the day) and I tend to pick dark themes but that's mainly because I don't like dark-on-white themes period on my phone.

Where does it say display use is 67%? In settings> about phone > battery use?
Does your phone feel hot? I notice sometimes that I'll be walking around and my phone is like burning a hole in my pocket, not literally but very hot. I noticed that when I installed wildmonks kernel and SetCPU that my battery increased TONS.
Some general things to check:
Auto email push
Cell stand by (look at reception)
Widgets auto refreshing
CPU frequency
I make sure all of the above is working properly, and my battery lasts for 2 days with light-medium usage
Sort of related question.... occasionally, I'll have "android system" just chew through my battery....if I let it just run for a few days, or if I clear the dalvik cache, it seems to fix itself, but I'm really clueless as to what is causing this....any ideas?
Don't know, but when it happens - it means the same thing I've mentioned multiple times in multiple different threads, some apps can cause the kernel to run in loop of some sorts - running at 100% CPU speed and eating the battery very quickly. Reboot sorts it out until it happens next time. Finding and uninstalling the rogue app sorts the issue, but it's a bit pain. Task killers don't help even a tiny bit, since they can't restart system service, and it's not the app that's running the loop.
Actually, for me, only clearing dalvik cache sorted it out. I had my battery die, swapped in a spare, and that one died within an hour or two....soooo yeah, reboot def did not fix the problem! xD

Battery Drain. Help!

I have experienced it a couple of times in the 8 months or so I have had my Captivate (Galaxy S). One time it was due to a rogue application that was using heaps of CPU. Using OS monitor I discovered that an app/process had a load running consistently up at 50% or more.
Uninstalled the app, problem solved. For months I was getting 48-60 hours out of a single charge, which was absolutely brilliant.
Now I have a new battery drain, and it's proving very difficult to find. Checking OS monitor didn't help. No app sticking out like dogs balls hogging CPU this time.
I tried the advice in this thread;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=937080(preview)
Gone through it from end to end, and the battery drain is still there. The thread tells me I should be using roughly 1% per hour while on standby. Current widget tells me I am using 1% about every 5-8 minutes, which gives me 8-12 hours of battery life.
I have gone back and uninstalled a heaps of apps I no longer use, as well as uninstalling apps that I installed around the start of the time I noticed battery drain began. No good.
Checked all my settings, even experimented with turning off background sync (which I dont think is the problem, as I had it on when I was getting 2+ days of battery life), no good.
Using Titanium Backup, I went through and began "freezing" a couple of apps at a time, thinking I could find the application causing it that way. I sorted my apps by install date and started going back in time 2 or 3 apps at a time. No good.
However, I think I may have found a clue...
The other day, I turned my phone onto Flight mode, I can't remember why now. Anyway, I realised a few hours later that I forgot to turn Flight mode off. Looked at my battery and noticed, it had hardly dropped at all! Weird. As far as I can tell, I have the phone set up the way I did when I had great battery life. In some cases, I have even tried doing things I did not do when battery life was good (turning off background data, wifi etc). I still can't pinpoint the problem.
Who else has experienced battery drain on Android? What did you do to combat it? It's just frustrating knowing what my phone and battery are capable of and not being able to achieve it!
I have has that a couple of times too. The only way I have found to make it stop when it starts is to do a reboot. Like you it doesn't appear to be any specific app, the os is just eating battery. Once I reboot its great again. Hope this helps

Well from a lot of different articles I have read, having a weak signal around you can cause a drain on the battery. The fact that the phone has to try to grab the signal harder than it should on top of getting then losing and having to re acquire the signal drains the battery.
I haven't done any tests myself but I find that I get great battery life when using the phone heavily while at home on the wifi network.

Nah it's not that easy unfortunately. It's a problem I have had for a couple of months now. There has been many reboots in that time, none have solved the drain.
The only thing that did was putting the phone into airplane mode, which then make it a nice-looking paperweight.

It may be that, but I don't think so. As I said, I had great battery life using this ROM, and in the same locations as I do now with terrible battery life. I haven't moved, I still use the phone where I did before.
Cheers for the responses anyway guys. I appreciate it.

Thank you so much! It appears you are right. I "froze" Maps using Titanium Backup, and for 40 minutes my battery has been steady at 24% while on standby. Brilliant! Usually in that time I would drop 3-5%.
Now, the next question. How do I stop it? Does this mean I can no longer use Maps? I don't even use Latitude, but I see no option to uninstall it anywhere. Everything in it is turned off.
Not sure how to proceed from here. I do use Maps from time to time and would like to keep them if I can.
Just un-freeze it when you need it.
One thing that I did was start resetting my phone right before bed to terminate all the programs that I used through out the day.

I have just upgraded to Serendipity 7, we'll see if that fixes the problem. If not, I may have to freeze Maps while not in use.
Well, after a battery calibration I am now getting 24-30 hours with moderate use. A long way from the 48-60 hours I used to get, but a lot better than the 10-12 hours of recent times. So I am half as well off as I was 3 months ago, but twice better off than I was a week ago.
Happy enough for now. Just wish I could pinpoint how I was getting that great battery life before!

Extreme battery drain on extended battery

Please bare with me, I am a fairly novice xda user.
I purchased my Bionic at launch, and it has been working perfectly until about a week ago. I always run the phone on stock OS not rooted, automatic brightness, 4g turned off, no wifi/sync/bluetooth. I would generally get down to 20% of my battery from 7 am to midnight on these settings, which was fantastic.
Suddenly, I now lose 10% every 20 minutes. This is not an exaggeration, I have been testing it with Battery Spy. CPU Spy reports that my phone never goes into deep sleep and is always running at the lowest mhz setting when idle.
Under battery usage, Cell Standby is reporting 45%, then Phone Idle at 35%, then Screen at 15%. The remainder its split between K9 Mail and Handcent SMS.
I have uninstalled everything that I thought could be causing this... Facebook, Google+, etc. Apart from the stock bloatware and k9/Handcent, my phone is like new. The best I could do is a factory reset at this point...
I don't think it is a bad battery because the stock battery goes from 100% to 0 in less than an hour when it would last half a day beforehand. I am really at a loss.
One thing I do know is that the 3g and bars are almost always blue, which I think it means is transmitting data. Maybe this is the culprit?
Please pardon my ignorance with the whole issue. Any help would be very, very appreciated. The Bionic was the best phone I have ever owned up until this battery fiasco, and I would like to find out why this is happening.
Thank you.
EDIT: would just like to update, Battery Spy reads that my phone is running at 104° Fahrenheit. I do not know if this is normal, but this was after an hour since a cold boot. Sounds high to me but I'm not sure.

Sounds like you have some thing that is really using up some cpu cycles. One way to see what's going on is to install the app Android System Info from the market. It has a section called Tasks and it will let you look and see what part of the system is using how much cpu. I do not think you have to be rooted to use this, but I could be wrong. I did go to the market and look and saw no mention of needing to be rooted.
I know this will sound extreme, but I would definitely do it if this was happening to my phone: Factory Reset and start fresh.
Good luck.
Thank you for the advice. I installed it, and appear from the Android System Info app taking up 50% of my cpu, and Android System using 4%, everything else was listed at 0.

Well, that didn't help much. Oh well, I would definitely do the Factory Reset then. Again that's just the way I would handle it as something is going on with your phone that wasn't happening earlier. Just go to the Privacy settings and make sure you have Backup and Automatic Restore checked. If your launcher has a backup feature, go to preferences and do a backup of the launcher settings. Then do the Factory Reset. It's a pain to have to setup everything again, but a reset really does cure a lot of ills that pop up.
Good luck.
Oh BTW, here's some general Battery saving suggestions:
Battery Life – BY: NoBloatware on DF
consider doing a factory reset. Do not sync apps, wifi connections, etc. with Google services as that may cause a problem. Install all apps and wifi connections from scratch. A bit of a pain, but not too bad.- install a home/launcher replacement. I use Go Launcher EX, which is free, and I love it. No reason not to try out an alternative launcher as you can always go back to how you had it.
- don't use an automatic task killer--not even the one that comes with the phone. Reboot your phone and look at what's running. If anything that you've installed is running and there's no reason for it, then uninstall it and find an alternative that behaves. Ignore any stock apps that run on boot as I've found them to be more or less benign.
- weather widgets, live wallpapers, news/social feeds, any app or service that you use that runs--do without it if you can.
- don't use antivirus
- the DLNA app pops up a dialog box that will set your WIFI sleep policy to never. The default is "turn off when screen turns off" and I personally think that this setting is the best thing for battery life. Under wifi settings view your connections then hit menu to see "Advanced options" where you can set the sleep policy
- if you have access to wifi, leave it toggled on as it is more efficient than 3G. This is different from the sleep policy.
- I leave GPS toggled on too by the way. Apps use it as needed. When I'm done with Maps or an app that uses it, I'm sure to return to the home screen so GPS can stop. Under wireless settings turn on "Google location services" so that an app is able to use network resources to get your location instead of GPS. I have "VZW location services" turned off--don't know why that option is even there. By the way, I increase the speed of voice output > text to speech > speech rate because I like the directions to get spit out faster. That saves a bit of battery. Turning off the display and just listening for directions help. Also, often I just get the directions and then exit back to the home screen: GPS uses so much battery I try to get it over with ASAP.
- when you get a new battery, do a factory reset, or an OS upgrade run your battery all the way down until the phone shuts off and then charge the battery all the way up. This will callibrate the phone's understanding of the battery's capacity. Do this once every month or two also, but don't do it too often if you can help it.
- I have my battery set to "Performance Mode" and data is on all the time because I am on call 24x7. If you don't mind, try out a more conservative battery profile to save more gobs of energy.
- set screen brightness to "Automatic"
- under Accounts, click on any account listed and turn off sync for any items that you're not interested in syncing. For example, Google Books if you don't use it. Don't use Backup Assistant--I prefer syncing my contacts with Google. You don't need both. Also go into your contacts > menu > display options > backup assistant > UNCHECK. Also do contacts > menu > more > settings > contact storage > and select your Google account and "remember this choice"
- if you never use bluetooth then toggle it off. If you do use it sometimes, it's fine to leave it toggled on all the time.
- consider turning off voice privacy. This may not be a big deal but it will save some processing (and therefore battery). It may also improve call quality.
- turn off haptic feedback, animations, and any un-needed sounds in Android settings and in your apps
- set your screen timeout to as low a time as you can stand (I use 1 minute) and manually turn the screen off when you're done using the phone. I use an app to lock the screen so I don't wear out my power button...as happened on my original droid.
- turn off in-pocket detection
- keyboard: turn off vibrate on keypress and sounds for any keyboards you use
- use a red screen background. On the original Droid screen--not sure about this Droid 3 screen--red was the most efficient color that could be displayed. Anyone know if this still holds true?
- camera app: i like keeping location on and flash on auto. Consider turning location off or at least returning to the home screen ASAP when using camera if location for camera is on.
- in stock browser the default home page is Google and it uses your location. This is a bad idea as it can waste your battery for no reason. Make something else your home page and make sure to close any web page that uses your location when you're done viewing it.
- charge your phone via the wall charger instead of computer USB as it is faster. Also, don't use long USB cords--use regular power extension cords instead. I stick with the charger that came with the phone.

I had a similar issue and the problem was my sim card needing to be reinstalled. It was not seaded correctly and caused my radio to act up. I truned off the phone and removed the sim card and then reinserted it and rebooted and I was back to normal.
I am not sure if this is your problem but it is easy enough to try.
Would this apply if I am not using 4g? I have 4g disabled and it was my impression that the sim card was only used for 4g.
I uninstalled k9 which for some reason began using 7% of my battery though I had never opened it since reboot and now I am getting a loss of 10% per hour of normal use.
I went to bed with the battery at 70 and woke up with it at the same so I at least solved the sleeping problem. Not sure why k9 was responsible though.

Droid 4 battery issues...unbearable.

I spent a few hours looking through other threads, but nothing seemed to quite fit my scenario.
Stock droid 4 with the latest over the air update.
I use the phone very sparingly during the day, and my battery drains very quickly...
Usually take off the charger around 8am and battery is below 20% by 2pm.
My usage is usually one or two 5 minute calls, and probably 10mins of facebook.
Is there a good smart action I could try?
I had one that turned off the 4g while the screen was off, but it made sending picture messages unbearable...
My battery use indicator blames screen, then OS, then facebook....
I feel as if it's not reporting the culprit correctly...
Any help is much appreciated.

I've had similar issues, not sure what I did to cause them. When I first got the phone, 16hrs+ with what I would consider moderate usage was normal. I've flashed AOKP and the battery life is back to normal (on track for 15hrs today), but the stock rom is a disaster.
I'll let you know what I turn up (if anything), but I have a feeling I'll probably be wiping everything out since I actually like the stock ROM (plus no hw accel in ICS).
Edit: Also, how did you have a smart action turn 4G on/off? I was under the impression we can't control that at all, except via system menu. Is a downside to VZW's 4G...
I believe that was actually via the app Juicedefender.
even with it on i was still only getting about 8 hours...
I am semi interested in rooting/flashing a rom etc, but my last experience there was a disaster(thanks to a ****ty droid eris)
I disabled all widgets except for facebook, being that it's the only one I use...
The only non essential apps running all the time are battery circle, and facebook(widget i guess?)
I'm now charged to 100%, gonna see where these changes take me.
What are your settings as far as Brightness, Haptic Feedback, Screen Timeout, Vibration (Incoming Message/Call or End Call). Also, I recommend just using the FB app instead of the widget as I notice most of the widgets draw power even when the screen is off.
I am currently running Eclipse 1.3.7 w/ xrjxMod, Brightness all the way down, all vibration and haptic feedback is off. Since I am rooted I also used ROM Toolbox to adjust my scan interval to the minimum. I have the screen timeout to the max, but I always turn it off manually after use. I am constantly on either FB, XDA, txt messages or the occasional game/Netflix use and with the exception of watching a full episode or movie on Netflix, I am averaging about 6 to 8 hours on a full charge.
My battery is now sitting at 46%.
Since my last post I used the phone for 18mins of phone calls and nothing else.
The breakdown is 46% voice, 23% android OS, 12% display, 9% phone idle, 8% cell standby...
The brightness is as low as possible, haptic feedback is off, phone is set to vibrate(thats the only way I get calls)
All three location settings are on....Should I turn them all off? I dont know which are important...
I agree with azreal. Check your setting. Haptic feedback sucks up juice and unless you like it is more of an annoyance imo. There is an option for it in language and keyboard as well as in the screen menu for your soft keys.
Do you have your gmail setup to constantly sync? If its not needed un-check it in you accounts menu.
Are you leaving wifi on when your not in range of a remebered router?
If you are not in a strong 4g area set it to cdma only in your wifi and networks menu.
My opinion of apps to extend battery life is a negative one. Its an app that always runs to make things stop running???? Some work ok but most do not.
If all else fails I would suggest the eclipse rom for the d4. As long as you are safestrapped and follow directions properly you can't go wrong. In the case of a bootloop shut the phone off and reboot and you will come back to the recovery screen to try it again or go back to stock. Its nearly foolproof.
You may also want to do a battery stat wipe if your still having issues. Just discharge your phone completly, then fully charge wipe stats and completly discharge again then fully charge once more, and see if you notice a difference.
I get around 15-16hrs on stock and up to 22hrs on eclipse (varies with usage) by following these few things.

I would hazard a guess that having 4G on all the time is one of the main culprits. I leave 4G off unless I am browsing the web, forums, or something else where the extra speed is nice. I use the 4G Toggle widget from the market to turn 4G on and off. I always turn it off before hitting the power button to turn off the screen. No need for it to be sucking juice when I'm not actively using my phone.

I just installed the toggle switch, I'm gonna give it a go.
To turn off the gmail sync go to accounts click on you tap the account. Then uncheck the sync box.
When you want to check your email go to the gmail app hit the menu and sync. Takes about 30 seconds extra but saves some battery.

I'm always skeptical when people blame gmail sync or 4G on battery issues. When the phone was new on stock, and on ICS now, I have three gmail accounts, a yahoo account, and one Exchange account all syncing in the background + 4G on 24/7 and getting around 16hrs of battery life. This was the case for weeks. Then I started having trouble with Verizon's Backup Manager, did a factory reset, and now stock battery life is ~ 8hrs, with 4G OFF
I'm thinking at the very least, there is an issue with the stock battery information panel. My feeling is it hides battery use by the stock bloatware...

I agree that there is probably more to it than just 4G or syncing. Especially where people are getting only 8 hours or so battery life. I personally have noticed definite battery savings with 4G toggled off when not in use though. I can usually still go most of the day even with it toggled on all day but with 4G off, except when I actually need it, I usually get to bed with 30% - 40% battery left as opposed to 10% - 20% left with 4G on all day.

I would also turn all 3 locations off. No need to run the gps when not using navigation. I keep my 4G on as I use it frequently but I am going to try the toggle as well for the extra savings on battery when not netflixing/browsing.

Yep. I'm also having big issues with my Droid 4 battery. First I thought it was the firewall. But even after uninstalling the app, the drainage is absurd. The battery drains so fast, the phone gets warm.
I don't know where to look. I read something about logcat in another thread but could't find it anymore.
My Droid 4 can work about 5 hours on one battery charge. No gps, no 4g and no wifi. If I turn on wifi, it lasts about 8 hours, so I'm suspecting that some process loops when in non WIFI mode.
If you're out of options try using an app called watchdog. It let's you see if there is an app that's draining your battery unusually fast.
Thanks for the tip. But what whatchdog should I use? There are many apps called watchdog

Watchdog task manager lite (free version).
I tried that this morning. Still poor battery life on stock, but watchdog doesn't flag anything. Very weird
Oh well, I would definitely recommend AOKP for anybody having battery problems.
For me today: 4 hours 55 minutes since unplug, 80% left.
Screen time on: 50 minutes (!)
That being said, I do keep my screen on pretty low. Still, you can tell I've been using it...
Watchdog couldn't help me but. My data monitor showed that motorola.services was generating a lot of data the past few days (800+ MB :O ) and responsible for the battery drainage. I blocked it with droidwall. It's better now, but sometimes it still pops up and generates data despite the fact it's blocked.
So glad that I have an unlimited internet plan or else I was really screwed

New IPC Wakelock

Just started getting this a day ago. All syncs turned off, most Samsung apps frozen, literally nothing extra running in the background and can't get rid of this wake lock. No search results on it either, any idea guys?? Phone went from 100% to 64% overnight from 2am to 8am because of this. Won't stay in deep sleep.
Wakelock ipc00000024_er.serverthread

Same here. Just noticed this yesterday. Been searching and have found nothing. BTW, I'm 100% stock (not rooted).
Update 1:
Been playing around with basic settings.
Turned Wifi off : No change (IPC still running)
Turned GPS off : IPC stopped running!!! Still too early to tell, but is your GPS on?
Update 2:
Turned GPS back on : IPC did not restart (phone is now deep sleeping)
Going to turn Wifi back on ......
Update 3:
Wifi back on and IPC did not return. Hmmm, gone for now, but for how long. Still try turning off GPS as that is when it stopped for me (and has not returned even though I have turned GPS back on.) BTW, GPS was not showing as a battery drain while IPC was, it could have been coincidence, just documenting what I've tried.
Problem happened again this morning.
I turned GPS off, problem stopped.
I turned GPS back on and the problem did not return.
Still no root cause, but when it happens, cycling GPS seems to stop it (at least temporarily.)
Glad you found the solution. I finally gave up and just wiped my device because it was draining too fast. Will definitely use your solution in the future if it reappears

My battery life was running perfect, I even bragged about it to friends then all of a sudden a few of days ago, I face the same exact issue. Until now, I can't figure it out. I already did 1 clean wipe (factory reset) and everything seem to be ok for 22 hrs. Then out of nowhere, Wakelock ipc00000024_er.serverthread starts sucking my battery dry all over again. I tried toggling GPS and Wifi but no luck as it's still running in the background. I'm not sure if it's an app causing this or if it could possibly be from turning off a lot of bloatware?
I bet the option circled in my pic was on when you had the problems, right?

Definitely not on or checked and I rarely enable GPS.
I haven't installed any new apps to my phone recently. Only 2 things i've done right before this started happening was 1. unlock my phone 2. turned off and force stopped dozens of ATT bloatware.

Hmm bizarre man. I am not rooted but I have been getting excellent battery life with that box unchecked but with GPS actually on.
Sorry I was of no help.

I am getting this wakelock as well. Happened after I froze some stuff, so I'm going to experiment.
l was getting this wake lock as well and noticed that in battery stats, the GPS was showing as always on despite every location option being turned off.
After reading up a bit, I uninstalled the task killer I was using. I think some program put in for a location hold without specifying a timeout for releasing it. The task killer then abruptly killed it, and the lock was never released.
Everything seems back to normal now after the uninstall and a reboot.
Hope this helps somebody.

After factory resetting my device it went away. Now after two days of not changing any settings it is back
I too continue to randomly suffer from this problem. I'm finding that cycling GPS does not always work (neither does rebooting).
These "Android OS" wakelocks drive me crazy, its not "Android OS." can be uninstalled.
I'm still fairly convinced that it has something to do with Location (GPS). Could be weather, Google Maps, Google Now, ...
And this is back again. Does anyone have this?
Seriously I am not even installing apps from the playstore. After around 3 days it randomly comes back and doesn't stop. it consumes about one percent of battery every 3 minutes according to BBS. Thinking about selling the phone because of this.

Have you had any luck with this?
I just got back from a 1 month trip to Thailand. I took out ATT sim card and popped in a local SIM card by True Mobile with only 3G support. I had zero battery issues and no Wakelock ipc00000024_er.serverthread for 1 whole month. Now that I am back from vacation, popped in ATT sim card, Wakelock ipc00000024_er.serverthread is back in action draining my battery at a rate of almost 10% per hour. (Running stock with most recent ATT OTA update)
I wonder if this issue is directly tied with 3G/4G or SIM card use?

Resurrecting an old thread. I've been getting this ipc wakelock for the past week. Is there anything that helps this? This is really frustrating.

The issue was never resolved. I ended up rooting and installing x-note rom which is currently running flawless. Smooth as silk, no ipc issues and battery life is insanely awesome. With stock battery i'm running 24-29 hrs moderate to heavy use. With my hyperion extended battery i'm running 48+ hours with atleast 10 hrs screen time. No battery drainage or non sense wake locks on X-note rom.
If I were you, i'd ditch the ATT stock rom, it's night and day.
I just started having the exact same ipc00000024_er.serverthread wake lock and I can't find a solution. Newly rooted, so I don't know if that has something to do with it.

There's nothing you can do if you're still running stock. I've tried to solve the problem for months.
Go install a custom rom, X-note 7 is badass. Kiss ipc000024 goodbye!
I was having issues with this wakelock as well. Toggling GPS on/off fixed it for me. Perhaps Ingress was locking the gps position... dunno.
---nevermind, it returns after a while just like the guys above mentioned---
