I flashed my Galaxy Note with German Stock ICS N7000XXLPY
I would like some information regarding updating my mobile to

Do I just overwrite my current ROM with pc-odin or do I need to wipe my phone or go back to the original Gingerbread Rom prior to updating to XXLQ2?

Recently updated mine from LPY to LQ2. Just used Odin to overwrite. All my apps etc., are still there, no problems at all. I think you only need to go back to GB if you want to wipe.
Thanks very much for the information.
Will give it a try later.
Kind regards

th rom ur talking abt is tw based? vl it hv premium suite apps?
What I recommend, based on what I did:
- Download the leaked German official ROM (about 600-700Mb), .tar.md5 file and put into your phone's sd-card.
- Install Mobile Odin Pro from Play Store (need to pay. there's free version too, but I suggest you pay for Pro, safer).
- In M. Odin, open the .tar.md5 file, and press flash. (if you don't mind wiping, best to also check the wipe options).
I didn't wipe, and then it couldn't boot.
So I booted into recovery, and wiped data/factory reset and cache, then it booted fine.
Still had root.
Then I installed CF-Kernel. Go to the Dev thread and scroll down till you see the GT...LPY version and download that zip. Unzip to take out the .tar file, copy to sd-card.
Use Mobile Odin to open it, and then flash. It will flash the kernel, and then you will have ClockworkMod recovery so that you can backup/restore ROMs again.
(Note: You can actually do the above in one single step, but opening the CF kernel file after you open the ICS file, so that everything else points to the ICS file except the kernel points to CF Kernel.)
Hit the THANKS button if this helps any of you!

Really? I thought PC Odin will completely overwrite everything using the stock image.
Hi all,
I'm running one of the AOSP roms and I have CWM Recovery. I've decided I've had enough of playing with custom ROMS because none of them have ever delivered. Please tell me how I can go back to a stock ROM.
Thanks
Download a file from Dr. Ketan development thread and flash it with Odin.
Really easy. I too just went to rooted stock. It more stable and battery great. Haven't restart my phone in a week. No crash. I'm on stock LQ3 rom.

No if your flashing a GB rom through PC odin the GB kernel is flashed before the wipe takes place so its safe to do
I am currently on CM9 rom and want to go back to stock ics for a while. I will want to return to CM at a later date.
Can I do this safely?
Do I return to stock GB and then update via OTA to ICS or is there a safe ICS stock to flash? - remembering that I will want to go back to root and CM at a later date?

I want to go back to GB but I don't know how to. I am currently running LPY ICS and an unsafe kernal, reading these huge threads just makes me even more confused to be honest.
I have Mobile ODIN PRO - is there an easy and safe way to get back using this?
Guys please observe basic forum etiquette and start your own thread if you have an unrelated question. I wouldn't hijack your thread.
I'm already on an AOSP ICS ROM (one of the unofficial versions). How do I flash back to stock safely? How do I get rid of CWM?
Thanks
Guys on the AOSP/CM9 ROM----flash a stock GB ROM via PC Odin.
The guy with the LPY ICS use PC Odin too.
The above you would have found out on your own with 2 mins worth of searching.

There is no "safe ICS stock" currently---all ICS stock kernels have the brickbug.
Best way is to go to stock GB and then via OTA---that way you can get samsung warranty service if you mess up and your phone gets bricked.Alternatively, search around in the forum for stock ICS ROMs-there ought to be a few in the dev/general section. And "where there is a rom, there is info about flashing it"
hi, does anybody know what my original gingerbread version should be as i forgot to take note. i am currently on ics n7000xxlpt and i want to revert back to the original. just have no idea of how to find out.

You mean you want to flash LRG kernel so that you can upgrade to 4.0.4? Why dont you download stock XXLRQ (German) firmware from dr.ketan's thread and simply flash using odin. Its the latest 4.0.4 rom.

To change build number you will need to flash updated rom.
This is what it means in "Settings / About Phone"
Baseband version - This is your Modem
Kernel Version - Your Kernel
Build number - your ROM
You need to flash an updated ROM to change to 4.0.4. Latest is LRQ

Find the XXLRQ3 (Germany) in there and flash it. It will restore back the LRQ3 on to your phone, together with the stock kernel that comes along with it.
Hi Guys,
Hey i was testing many Jb roms such as ultimate JB and rocket rom.
Now since i noticed that JB had just a battery back up of one day I want to revert back to my good old ICS 4.0.4.
I have downloaded mobile Odin pro. I just wanted to know , if I flash ICS 4.0.4 for my country (taken from sammobile) will i be able to unroot and claim warranty / or be able to revert to stock samsung ICS and get my samsung software updates as usual ?
It would be really nice if someone could help me on this .
thanks in advance.

as Shyam replied earlier, yes you can do with PC Odin.
Depends on your purpose. Are you still going to use it for your personal use ? or are you going to sell back to Samsung ?
If you are going to sell back to samsung / claim for warranty (if your current state need any claim of it).
If you are going to sell back to Samsung / claim your warranty, better you just flash back original firmware (can be downloaded from samfirmware.com) with PC Odin. You should need around 5 minutes (plus-minus) to flash it back.
By doing this, you will loose your root, get original firmware (ROM), with original (stock) kernel. Once you are on pure stock kernel, please do not do any wipe data, as I believe you know the consequences.
But if you want to keep root (and use it for personnal), you can use Mobile ODIN. But you have to check first which version is running on JB rom, since according to you, you are now on JB custom rom. My understanding, earlier mobile ODIN doesn't work on JB rom.
If you don't want the hassle of doing so, Just :
Flash back original firmware (download from samfirmware.com), with PC Odin
Once boot up on ICS, go to stock recovery (Vol UP+Power+Home), flash Philz Kernel. (you will get root + CWM). You can refer to Philz thread, and download his correct kernel for your ICS built number.
Good Luck!

Hi guys
I recently brought a 2nd hand n7000
This rom is totally stock, to be precise, it is a Hong Kong version 4.0.4
Since I want to improve the battery life and have a more defined rom.
I would like to root and install CWM.
Up to now, I understand that there's the infamous brick kernels out there. And I probably need to stay away from ICS.
But because of my n7000 is 2nd hand, i don't know much history about it.
i can not know for sure, that this n7000 is shipped with GB or ICS at the first place?
Or the last guy actually upgrade it from a GB.
My research in this forum tells me it's always better to start with the JB aka 4.1.2 stock.
My question is can i simply flash a HK 4.1.2 as a base without doing all sort of EMMC checking?
Then, flash kernel comes with root & CWM? And finally my rom of choice?
I would like someone could guide me and show me the SAFE way,
Thx in advance!!
Ya.. You can upgrade to JB.. Use of Odin or Kies. Then use Philz kernel to root and get cwm. Now you may proceed with custom roms.
Thx for answering.
I have successfully upgraded my n7000 to JB
it's ZSLR1 (Hong Kong latest stock JB)
Just one more question about rooting.
Can you help me check if this is the correct kernel?
philz_touch_6.19.3-n7000.zip
from http://goo.im/devs/philz_touch/CWM_Advanced_Edition/n7000
I am planning to use the stock recovery method.
I am too afraid to brick this n7000 with "wrong" kernel
THX

That kernel is fine if you plan to flash another 4.1.2 or touchwiz based ROM. If you plan on upgrading to kit kat or 4.3jb custom ROMs, you will need raw kernel instead.
