Guys,
So I recently, successfully, followed the [ROM][CM7] [v1.3] Size-agnostic SD Card image and CM7 installer for SD Cards thread to use CM7 on an SD Card on my Nook Color 1.4.2. Everything worked out flawlessly and everything seems to be working just fine.
I have the Original Nook OS running via Internal Memory (If I boot without SD Card); and CM7 running via SD Card.
One issue that i've run into is that my YouTube is not playing HD Videos. If I try to play any HD Video, I get the error..
"There was a problem playing this video.
Please touch to retry".
If I click the "HD" button on top-right corner to disable HD, the video starts playing just fine in SD Quality. All SD Videos play just fine.
I have not been able to play any HD video at all on YouTube.
The YouTube I'm talking about is the YouTube App available on the Google Play Store.
Is it just me or do HD Videos not play on the Nook Color via YouTube?
Thanks!!
Unfortunately it depends on the format the hd is encoded to... it is hit and miss.
One thing that MAY help is to install MX player and the codec pack for it.

Thanks for replying Dizzy.
I installed MX Player and it's codecs; I have to say that my actual MP4/MKV files are actually running pretty smooth & nicely in this player .... however, YouTube HD Videos still won't work.
I think what bothers me is that it's not appearing as a "hit and miss" with me; it's appearing as a total "miss" with me and I want to make sure it's not just me. Over the last couple of days I must have tried something like 30 ~ 40 HD Clips - absolutely none of them work - each gives the same message.
Could it be something else in my setup?
Thanks.

Ok - so basically HD Videos do not work on YouTube on the NC at all; that is fine, I think I just primarily wanted to make sure it's not just me or my setup. I know "HD" isn't really conducive on the NC anyways since it's max resolution is 854 X 480 ... it's not even 720p.
Thanks for clarifying.
Is there any way to modify the YouTube apk so that it won't play in HD? It's been getting annoying how it keeps trying to play in HD and just fails.

I'd like to know this as well.
Try the apk in the following link to play HQ youtube clips
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1282736
Only problem is that Google play detects this as an old version and will try and update. You could always break the market link with Titanium Backup or similar program

Actually the resolution is 1024x600.
A bit better than the lower res 854 x 480.

Try starting youtube app...
go menu... Settings... if High quality on mobile is checked... uncheck it... if it is unchecked... check it.
Mine is checked...
NOTICE: with it checked or unchecked... if you select a HD video... it will ALWAYS initialize in HD mode and you have to tap on the HD logo top right of video to avoid the error message.

I'm Running ICS and the only option in the Settings is to Disable HD over 3G, which the Nook doesn't have. Clicking the HD button disables HD playback for a Playlist but as soon as you leave the Playlist it defaults to HD again. Also HQ is also disabled if you Disable HD in the App. What I need is a patch for the Youtube app so that it thinks my Nook isn't HD capable as it's supposed to.

This was already suggested in this thread, but you can install an older version of YouTube that does not detect you are running in HD and it will play HD videos in HQ. They are decent quality and do not crash. But there is no tablet interface either. To keep play store from updating or bugging you, uncheck automatic updating for YouTube and tell it to not notify you of updates. Get the older version here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=17983409
It is version 2.1.6

I already know about that but I updated to CM9 to get the new ICS interfaces. I'd rather suffer the HD presses(Which are less difficult in the latest UI overhaul from Google) then Downgrade. I'm just expressing that I'd be interested if anybody wanted to try and patch it. I have nowhere near the coding skills to create a patch myself(I'm standing on Earth while the Skills are on Neptune).

Hi,
I was checking the forum, but found no similar topic, so I opened a new one(bit surprised, that nobody noticed this).
So the problem is, that whenever I play a youtube video, it's bad quality! Or at least not as good as 720p. Of course connected to wifi(high quality automatically chosen).
What I did is, I searched on "Crysis HD", and played the "ultra hd" video. It looked okay.
After that I downloaded JetVD, and downloaded the actual video in 720p.
What a difference!!!
So my question is: whenever I'm on wifi, is it possible to play the youtube video in proper quality?
seach youtube hq
I'm not 100% sure what you mean, I searched youtube HQ on google, on market, and on XDA, but found nothing related.
If you mean turn on the "high quality" in the options while playing, it's done. My question is different.

I had been looking for this too, where can I can such an app
All youtube videos that i play look like the worst quality stretched to fullscreen, it's just horrible, when i select menu-> play high quality. it just keeps loading and never starts playing, not on wifi, not on 3G.

Aye. This is it! So somebody knows how to get around this? Obviously it's not hardware restriction, we just need a proper app for this! Maybe somehow use the youtube player that EVO uses?
Many of the custom roms have the YouTube app swaped for the HD version. You should have a look.

Before I updated to new firmware always had to select "play in high quality" after starting a video but now it does it automatically. Have always had the box ticked.
video set to high quality, the problem is not this.

No, unfortunately it's still not doing the thing I want.
You might not notice, but there is a big difference between youtube 720p(downloaded to PC, and copied to phone), and youtube HD.
I installed the app, but it does nothing, but moves the HD button from the menu to the onscreen interface. HD quality videos are still not even close to 720p.
I just picked up this phone and my thoughts are mediocre so far. But I have one issue that I cannot seem to fix. On my android, I would have the option on either Youtube.com, or the Youtube app, to choose to watch the video in HD. I dont see that option for my phone now, am i missing something? It sucks to have a 4.3" screen but with jumbled video.
Thanks.
The stock youtube app isn't that great. There is another one you can grab in the marketplace that is better.
As for watching it in a browser, it was likely omitted to avoid having to keep up with flash updates.

But what about for HD viewing? I added a video to my phone that plays crystal clear...but i want to stream HD if the video specifies HD.
Did you download the YouTube app from HTC Hub? It can play HQ video.

Call me paranoid, but is there a more official place to download this. The site in the link feels sketchy. There is even a post that questions the validity of the .apk. Have you installed and is there a noticeable difference?
I'd say it's legit. Jlevy posted on there that it's legit and he is a member on xda
i Got it and installed seems to be what it says flash 10.2 tried a flash game to see and it played it was jerky tho but i don't know if it was like that before or not i didnt test the game before. youtube is flash based right? ill check that out
I thought it wasn't getting released until the 18th. I guess it got leaked or something.
I installed on Vegantab and it seems to work just fine.
tryed to play some 720p vids of youtube(website not the app) it was very jerky but 480p played fine
Works on my GTAB - doesn't seem any worse or better than 10.1 (with limited testing).
Had to uninstall flash before this would install. Works so far on VEGAn bameta 5.1.1.
Edit: after some testing it breaks hulu for me. Sticking with my altered 10.1 until something better comes along.
Vegan Ginger working but no sound. Anyone have sound?

Yeah i didn't see that post. I Google's and found the Android Police post and downloaded there. Seems to work, July still says "not supported on your platform" on Vegan 7. Dang! I still have high high hopes for the first beta release!
Just tested and works nice. Wish there was a way to test 480 on the youtube site

You could play videos on youtube in 480p format on G tab.
Do these steps:
1) Go into your youtube account settings, after signing in.
2) Click on "Playback Setup"
3) Checkmark the option "Always play HD when switching to fullscreen (when available)"
Now on Gtab when you watch a video just double tap it to full screen and it will automatically go to 480p.

forgot all about that thanks man. Just did on an episode of =3 and it ran perfect in 480p I love this tab
Edit: i think audio may be off a little
Sweet!
Works nicely, no noticible difference from 10.1
I don't get it though, who comes with these release dates anyway?
If it's ready to go just set it free because in the age of twitter and XDA, if someone gets thier hands on it before the release date it's going to spread like wildfire!
Agreed. It's works but no noticable difference. It still takes a minute+ to start a live video stream on ESPN3. It always feels like an eternity...
I'm running Vegan Ginger and haven't installed this yet (still have 10.1 from the market). I'm wondering if it will make a difference with this ROM until the next release when hopefully the hardware video acceleration files will be baked in to the rom?

Any pointer on how to alter 10.1 to get Hulu to work?
TIA
Remove the current Adobe flash from G Tab and install the attached version and then Hulu should work if using the Dolphin browser with useragent set to "Desktop" and run plugin "always".
10.2 works fine on my DROID INCREDIBLE too
I didn't see a thread for the Crackle app from Sony that is free in the Market. This app gives you access to a lot of free movies and television shows. I have it installed on both of my gTabs (one running VEGAn 5.1.1 and the other running CyanogenMod 7.0.3 (stable)) and it runs great. I have noticed that during some times of the day it seems that the network connection between Crackle's servers and my house come to almost a crawl. Other than that it's another great free way to watch movies and t.v. shows on our gTabs.
Can you please share the latest version of the apk, all searches outside US gives us the 1.0 version (which don't run on the gtab).
TIA

I'm runnuing BOS from Roe with the latest edition and this will load and install.
Had audio for a while and no video.
Now nothing but a white screen when I hit the watch now button for Silverado which was the first movie listed.
How's this supposed to work-download the movie or is it streaming etc??
Saw a add to Que but don't know how this works.

I've never ran that ROM so I can only speak to my experience with a gTab running CM 7.0.3.
It streams the video like Netflix/Hulu/Fox TV, it doesn't download it like the BlockBuster app.
Like I said on my original post, at certain times of the day or with certain videos it seems the network connection is super slow which can lead to white or black screens with only audio as the app is trying to buffer the video. Try it when you have the best WiFi connection possible. When at home I have 12 mb downstream and it plays fine for me 90% of the time.
As for the queue, it's just that, a queue like on Hulu. It's sort of a playlist so if you have several shows or movies in your queue they will play one after the other automatically.

Well I'll try again and thanks for the info.
I must say, I'm pretty unimpressed with it. Its organization is a mess, and it looks like it just has rather unpopular shows and movies on it.
I might be wrong. But it seems to me that I'm sticking with Netflix for the time being.
Some of us are too cheap to pay for Netflix.
It's still got a few decent movies on there, and Seinfield and Married w/Children are a hoot for quick watching. It's at least worth a download, even if you only watch a couple of movies and uninstall it.
Pretty awesome Running G-Harmony and watching Ghostbusters as I type this! Thanks for posting!!

It sounds like Crackle is using Flash. And it's a well known issue that flash only kind of works in Bottle of Smoke. Flash will play audio but not video. Knowing this I will not bother trying to install this on my tablet which is running GTabComb (which is a 1.1 bootloader derivative of BOS). The only reason YouTube app works on BOS is because it is probably using html5 instead of flash in the app.
Could you u post the latest version?

I installed cm-11-20141218 on my Nook HD plus. It's my first root. Everything went smoothly.... except in Google play movies it says 'Playback isn't supported on this device' when trying to stream my movies and shows (same issue in Disney Movies). All other Google apps appear to be working fine. However, I can download and watch or cast and watch, but both options produce very low quality images (I do have the HD download option set). Normally the Nook HD plus has great video playback quality. Ironically I can now watch 1080p videos in YouTube (but not purchased videos).
I was hoping that someone might have a simple fix.... thanks.

I don't watch videos there, but I suspect they don't work on rooted devices, so you need an app that hides your root status. I don't know exact name, you can search on Google.
