just brought the 7000 - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just got the 7000 note over the Att note even though the att note as lte... seems like the international some how is more stable.. i do have a few questions.. Did I make the right choice to get the international over ATT note?
1. I cannot download the samsung apps that are in the samsung apps application.. It gets me to the sign in screen but then I cannot get beyond the sign in screen .. I do have an account and it has been verified.. Anything I can check to try to get the applications downloaded.. it was an icon on the phone..
2. I have so many facebook contacts but I dont necessarily want theire emails/phone numbers appearing in my contacts.. i just want to be able to add phone numbers and emails on my own.. There is some kind of sync i am sure but I just want to be able to add phone numbers to my own do i save them to the sim card the phone the sd card.. i dont know where they are so i need help with that
3. Also how does video calling work.. . I would like to use it but I would like to know how it works..
4. I notice the unit shuts off sometimes when its dark is that normal it does a full reboot..
5. Is there any galaxy unlocked note like in canada that would have a toggle between lte/hspa+ . I think there is one in Canada.. i may prefer that one.. but i didnt buy the att one due to disableing fm radio and such...
I will probably have more questions later..
Seth

I am not overly Familiar with the ATT note (other then reviews) but I will try to answer as many questions as I can.
1. The Samsung APP sounds like the Samsung App is crashing (if its not displaying anything after loggin). Check to see if there is any software updates for your phone. If not you may need to do a Factory reset,I would not do this is you are running ICS as it could harm your phone.
On the plus side Most apps in the Samsung App-store are also available in the Google Play-store.
2. Go to Settings > Sync Settings and chose you Apps (Facebook, etc) in its setting un-tick the Sync Contacts Box
3. Yes Video calling works fine for me
4. Full reboots are not Normal but are normal caused by a application that is misbehaving. Finding it will be a process of elimination.
5. I believe all the LTE notes should be able to drop down to hspa+. The problem is that there are quite a few different LTE frequencies and no 1 Note can use them all so you are pretty much locked into buying it from your Carrier.
Hope this helps

video calling samsug apps
I am running ics at the moment on the international 7000 I'm happy with the phone still can't download apps from the samsung apps store i think i fixed the contacts problem there must be away to download them
i didn't find the apps in the google play store

[Q] Newbie: Samsung Galaxy S - Phone Function & GPS & SMS tone

I've just got my 1st ever Android phone: Samsung Galaxy S...
Just getting the hang of it, but the Samsung original "TW Launcher" user interface isn't really that good.
I've not rooted my phone as I heard that Froyo is gonna be up for Samsung by the end of the month in Malaysia.
1. The phone functions interface is really not user friendly. Is there anyway to change the phone features?
2. How can I get Google Maps Navigation on my phone? Is it even available in Asia? If not, any free gps navi I can get?
3. How can I change the sms receive audio? In Samsung UI, I can only change the Notification tone, but how can I change SMS tone by itself?
4. Any recommendation for a good calender/planner? Default calender is not quite user friendly...
Thanks in advance...

I have the same question, I just have my bell galaxy s unlock and brought back to Asia. All the local features are useless especially on the GPS and map function,
Do a search in the forus about Gogle maps brut. Brut enables the googlemaps navigation in your phone alternativrly goto marketplace in your phone and look for papago x5.. its free now on trial u can try it out and see if it is good for u.. so far papago is the only gps sw that uses offline maps unlike google maps navigation which need to be connected to the internet to download maps.
for the natification tones try hancent sms .. u can play ard wit it to change the notifiacion tone for sms emails and so on...
Im usig launcher pro and adwlauncher.. to switch bewteen launcher u have to incstal home switcher.. so if u need to connect to Kies u cn use the home switcher to switch back to TW for it to connect as MTP device

Help with Excel, Word not working in Note 5 (tmobil)

Hello everyone. Happy Humpday
I got a new note 5 from T-Mobile
now I wanted this cause it has excel and word and power point.
problem is when I try to use either app it will not launch it will flash the screen and go back to my home page. I tried factory settings and dumped dev cache and I cant remove the apps as they came with the unit.
when I do try to find it in the play store I cannot find any of them but one note.
I need excel and word to work. HELP
Some people (including me) can't download them from the play store.
If that is the case, download or update them from the Samsung App Store (aka Galaxy Apps). You usually need to log into Samsung account to do so.
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
What @apd said. Look in galaxy apps to see if there is an update for those apps. I remember about three updates to the Microsoft apps. Also maybe clear cache and data under settings / apps then try again. It could be a T-Mobile thing so you might search the t-mobile threads. Good luck

N920a with Uninstaller pro issue

Had the Att variant (N920A) for about a month now when all of a sudden MMS stopped working. If I send a pic message the picture disappears as soon as I hit send and the other party never receives anything from me. If I receive an mms I get the download box that when pressed will never actually download.
I work for Att, so I tested my Sim in another note 5 and everything works fine, so I know it's just gonna be a factory reset to sort the issue out.
Grabbed Uninstaller Pro to wipe all the unneeded apps before I run a full backup with helium so I don't have to bother setting my phone up again.
When I first ran Uninstaller pro I noticed a lot ( like hundreds ) of third-party apps that are highlighted in red that show as frozen. I know for a fact I haven't frozen any apps myself, with Uninstaller pro or any other app for that matter. Also some of the apps have strange names that I don't recognize at all. (I'll list a few on a screen shot, maybe someone can identify something). Uninstaller Pro will not allow me to unfreeze them, I only have the option to Uninstaller them or reset them, but I'm reluctant to mess with apps I don't recognize.
My question is how can these apps be frozen without my doing so, why can't I unfreeze them, why are they there in the first place, and could this maybe be the cause of the mms issue?
For the record I've run through all the usual troubleshooting for mms issues. Apn settings are correct, ad block isnt/has never been installed. MMS is enabled on the messaging app, and I've tried several third party messaging apps to no avail.
Google Drive link to a folder with a few shots of the frozen apps: https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B24oiB-uu3o5Ulp1WmxtckhCU1k
This is a very small fraction of the total amount of frozen apps. Each group of apps has the same name for the first part of the filename with about 50 entries that have different endings. Ballpark is probably about 450 total frozen entries.
Thanks in advance for an insight on the matter

Looks mostly like bloat. I do not know for sure though. Maybe someone in the AT&T Note 5 section of XDA can be of more help. Take it to a Best Buy and ask them to flash your firmware for you or if you work at an AT&T store maybe have it done there. I am not sure if Smart Switch supports the A variant. Either way, good luck.

Samsung not allowing logging into Samsung account on rooted phones
The exact same thing is happening to me after the last firmware update. On the old firmware, it was possible to log into one's SAMSUNG account to re-download previously purchased items from the Galaxy Store. Since the July 1st, 2019 security patch, SPAMDUNG have elevated their harassment of rooted customers to a new level:
Every time one tries to enter the user credentials (e-mail address and password for the Samsung account), the phone goes to the Legal Information page with the terms and conditions. After accepting them, a field at the bottom pops up, asking whether one would like to use biometrics for identification. No matter whether one chooses «not now» or «register», a black square appears between the two possible answers to the biometrics question, informing the user that «processing failed». Sometimes, the following error message is shown in the white field at the bottom of the screen ...
Account
Unknown error
(DataNull0/A300103)... before being taken back to the account settings with the field for the Samsung account's e-mail address and password. From there, one could play the scenario over and over again ad infinitum, but without any hope of ever getting out of this «login loop».
To make matters worse, as soon as one enters one's e-mail address in an attempt to log in, the Samsung Experience Service sends the following notification in 15 min. to 1 hour intervals, and they cannot be turned off in the configuration settings:
Samsung account
To continue using services securely, sign in again. When trying to «Continue with Google»:
To continue, sign in to your Samsung account again. The suggestions that one can find on the Internet to at least get rid of the nerve-killing notification messages are:
Settings | Developer Options | Running Services
Samsung Experience | Notification Listener | Settings | Notification Access
Samsung Experience => turn this off!!
Settings | Apps | ⁞ (upper right corner) | Show System Apps | Samsung Account => turn off Notific., uninstall updates
Navigate to http://findMyMobile.Samsung.com. Login, accept the terms & conditions, reboot the phone, voilà.
None of them work.
To disable SPAMDUNG Galaxy Apps notifications:
Open the Samsung folder and the Galaxy Apps therein.
Tap the ⁞ menu (three vertical dots to access more options) in the upper right corner.
Tap «Settings», then «Notifications» and slide the button to «off».
Samsung's notifications should now no longer bother you, but that does not solve the underlying problem.
This leads to the questions:
How to overcome the impertinence that SPAMDUNG harass their customers with and log into one's SPAMDUNG account on a rooted phone?
Alternatively, how to back up the purchased fonts, themes, etc., that were acquired from the Galaxy Store from an unrooted phone to an external SD card or Windows PC, in order to re-install them to the rooted phone later?
Thank you for any pointers to solutions that allow to update rooted phones every month, in a manner that preserves the software one has paid for as well as the configuration settings, apps, their data and so on.

Thank you for your post. I've been evaluating if I want a Samsung Account. I am not rooted, but I am using the US UNLOCKED U1 firmware. I have it locked on Oreo so my line-of-business software can work, and blocked the play store security policy malware and auto-updates from there so I can use my phone productive. There are few carrots for me to want a Samsung account:
1. Samsung Pay
2. A few nice apps.
However, if sign up for a Samsung account, will I be required to update to their latest crippling firmware/malware, and the latest play store security policy malware? I can't afford to be forced into cow Pie and the latest play store security policy malware.
Thanks!

I salute you for being still on Oreo as me yes, you can download updates and everything from play store and also from Galaxy store without needing any firmware update or going to Pie Oreo forever!

1. Do you use Samsung Pay?
2. I do manual updates of specific apps from the play store because call recording apps that uses the call logs to document call recordings using the phone number and contact name no longer work thus destroying its functionality. They not only destroy their ability going forward, they also destroy the history. This was caused by the play store updates, which they force on developers. Thus, you must download previous versions from apkpure.com etc., or have a backup copy, which is what I have. The other side I need to protect myself from is their "Security Policy Updates"/play store malware, that freezes app my older call recording apps. Thus, play store automatic updates and their "Security Policy Upates" make the play store less honorable that those who write ransomware because at least with them you can pay to get your data back while you cannot do with the play store.
3. You can record calls on Pie, but with any version of Pie, the call recording quality is terrible while the same phone flashed to Oreo is crystal clear.
4. Android 10/Q/Quicksand or whatever update stops call recording altogether so now the only ones with recordings of your phone calls, call logs, texts, and contact lists, are your phone manufacturer, wireless carrier, Google, the NSA, and anyone who will pay a nickle to have access to them, as long as they aren't the same people who participated in the conversations. Another "feature" of the Android 10/Q/Quicksand update is it kills Android Beam for exchanging data. However, in exchange for killing these capabilities they give you "long-awaited system-wide dark mode", which you could make happen on even Note 3s and 4s until they took it away, to where you needed 3rd party app, and now you don't need a 3rd party app because they are giving it back as a new feature.
5. A Note 9 frozen to Oreo with blocked "Security Policy Updates" is worth far more than a Note 10+ and beyond will ever be. You want to do frequent backups with matching pre-2019 APK and Windows versions of backup software such as SmartSwitch, and another backup software in case you want to switch to another brand phone later. That way if they slip in some of their ransomware 2.0 or other malware, you can re-flash and restore your phone to full functionality.
The way someone can determine if they have a diseased version of Oreo is to download the call recording app, "Automatic Call Recorder" by Appliqato from APKPure that is version v5.43.11 or older. If Oreo allows you to install it, make a call to and from your phone from a contact in your contacts list. If the app doesn't freeze, go into the call recorder and check your recordings. If you do not see the name of the person you called or who called you, then you have the disease and need to re-flash Oreo. See Restore Call Recording to your Note 9 SM-N960U and SM-N960U1 to stay safe from malware authored authored by the carrier and play store. Simply because they are incorporated or are a government-run clandestine operation doesn't make them honorable. The same can be said for Mafia's businesses and the government of Democratic People's Republic of Korea, which is neither democratic nor belongs to the people. In the US, the Edward Snowden revelations, FISA court violations, and deep-state investigations, leaks, social media "oppsies" prove that you need to do your own due-diligence because with regard to security because you are the product being bought and sold like a pack of cigarettes to fund Google, Android, IOS, apps, agendas, etc.
From what I know once you have rooted your Samsung device. You will not be able to connect to any Samsung services via that device.

So you're saying that it is possible to use and login to samsung account on a rooted device ??? My backups are there and I can't restore my phone because of that. Is there a way to do it. ???
Just try deleting all the cache and data on all the Samsung apps I used *link2sd* then rebooted worked for me ?*

Guide: Laggy V40? Make it ROCKET! No, it's not the UX!

Something was not right, for me, when scrolling in browsers and play store. It was laggy as hell. In other apps like facebook, tidal, instagram, youtube it was fluid and fast. But not on browsers. Tried all, chrome, opera, firefox, bromite, but all was stuttering like crazy. Play store also. I tought there are few rougue apps, twilight theme, fluid nav gestures and smart files manager, but I was so wrong. I also blamed the LG UI skin, but again was so wrong! So how did I resolved?
Guide - possible for any LG out there:
1. Remove SIM
2. Factory reset your phone in the way that doesn't require Internet to go through activating the phone. If you cant do this, it will fail. You should NOT put the email account. (I did reset from phone settings, not by keys. Also remove phone security such as pin, password, face id etc for this to work - just select unlocking the phone by sliding up)
3. DO NOT connect to internet, do not insert SIM.
4. Settings - apps - show system apps also.
5. Disable, remove permissions, set modify system setting to NO and draw over other apps to NO for all korean bloatware (screenshots attached) and for Google play services, google play store, google, and google service framework.
You must do this for each app. Example in screenshots.
6. Connect to wifi. Do not put your email in play store or gmail. Not yet.
7. As soon as connected slide down the notifications pannel. A pop up will apear after few seconds with Google trying to update some libraryes!!! Hit CANCEL!!!
8. Restart and connect with your email on Play Store. Disable asap app updates.
9. Your contacts won't sync now. Don't worry, its normal, you just removed some permissions.
10. Update and install all your apps from play store.
11. Re-enable that 4 google apps, give permissions to all for contacts, phone, wifi etc, enable also draw over other apps and modify system settings for these apps.
12. Insert SIM.
Enjoy! Hope it works for you all, V40, 30, G8, G7 etc
Weird, but its like I have stock vanilla now. Rocket!

Never had any lag on my Sprint v40 (root w. US Pie)...
Interesting guide. Could be useful for people without stock US Pie and loads of bloat for sure.
Sounds like a thing for korean models. Which is interesting. I used korean fw on my G5 V30 and now V40. Never had an issue. The G5 didn't even have root to disable or remove preinstalled apps. Factory reset alone would've fixed most issues anyway. Still, worth a shot if anyone does think their phones are slow or something.

I dont think ive experienced lag except in games. Good post nonetheless :good:
Make sure you disable LG root checker which has proven to cause laggy behavior in the past for rooted phones.
