hi there
i have a couple of questions about kernal modules
is it possible to use other kernal modules from different devices on a gnote ?
e.x if i use Samsung Epic 4G's kernal modules, will it work on my Galaxy nte?
if i change the kernal of a rom, will it still work on my Gnote or any different device?
e.x if i change the ics stunner kernal by copying the abyssnote's in stunner pacakge, will it work on my Gnote? or is it omg no way this is binary language and development part?
[dev-part]
I want to understand how the android gigerbread and ics os hardware and software works logically and physically .,.,but how ?
e.x the drivers the boot files the ui everything .,.,what source that you suggest me ?
is it possible to take drivers or system files from linux and re write it then you use it at my gnote ?
thanks to everyone in xda ,,.btw you inspired me big time ^_^

Hi all,
I've just recently migrated from Windows Mobile platform to Android platform and still learning more about it.
Just wondering whether we can just simply flash kernel for stock ROM? or just flash kernel without flashing ROM? What will happen if the kernel doesn't match the ROM?
I'm on unrooted Stock 2.3.6, Kernel version N7000DXLA1, [email protected] #2 (btw, what does this DPI thingy means?)
As what I've understood, we have to root the phone 1st, then have CWM install and flash via CWM?!?!?!
Used to play around with things call HardSPL/SoftSPL & Radios while on Windows Mobile...is the concept same for Android?
Any SIFU care to explain?
Thanks in advance.

Hey mate welcome to the team..!
Kernel can be flashed in 2 ways
1. Via CWM i.e a custom recovery.. Bt a long process!! (but root is required.)
2. you can do a odin flash... Ur version is LK1 look for the kernel for that..
DPI is resolution for our phone default is 320... Bt 1 root then go to deep... All the best!!
Flashing radio is generally not required.. Here odin is the magic tool.. Which take care for all..

Thanks buddy for the clarification but I'm not quite fully understand yet.
When you mention ODIN, is't Mobile Odin PRO? If that's the one, then am not planning to purchase it yet as i've not fully understand how things work yet...but I've seen somewhere in the thread something call Mobile Odin Lite for GTN7000? Will that be the same that I can try?
I've seen in the Android development that people are talking about AbyysNote Kernel & Franco kernel which is very useful...can i just root my stock 2.3.6 then flash either 1 of this kernel?
Hey guys.I need help to make a custom kernel for s5830i so that Cyanogen Mod 7.2 can be runned for this device.CM is ported at some stage but it has many bugs.Is there anyone who can help with this?Need a stable kernel.
Also if anyone can help for fixing bugs in that port tell me:
1.No signal.
2.Camera not working.
3.Wi-fi not working.
4.Bluetooth not working.
5.No sounds.
6.Acceleromater is not working properly.
7.Colors are somehow different.
8.Screen capture is not working.
All help is appreciated.
Thanks.

I'm helping 4PDA and the kernel from there is only with init.d.We need overclocked one.I posted thread here cuz there are many great developers in XDA and we need to get as many help as we can get to make CM working.
There is one overclocked kernel from s5630 (galaxy Y) but I don't know if it works on 5830i..

I'm using (MODEM) Galaxy Y, and it works perfect, I had to do this because I had upgraded my modem by a European and Brazil lacked 3G band.
Now test the kernel of Y can be dangerous and do turn my phone brick.
if something goes wrong I'm no way to download the flash odin3 am I right?
1.Testing a kernel cannot brick your phone.(a 4PDA galaxy Y developer said this)The kernel should run to 5830 cuz the hardware is exactly the same which is the point. The display camera etc. is not connected with the kernel itself.I have not tested it but the guy claimed it can't brick the phone. If it fail working you can just flash boot.img(the stock kernel itself via Odin 1.85)
2.You can use a PDA.tar part of a firmware only the PDA which I have posted somewhere in the threads for s5830i and you will have your phone working. You can try using a firmware from samfirmware.com with a .pit file for galaxy Y which samo ppl said is working with the firmware for 5830i(I haven't tried it yet)
so the point is that if the kernel fail you can revive the phone. You can get boot-loop or stuck at samsung logo but you'll have a working download and recovery mode.
But you know it has always a chance that the procedure can fail and your phone gets bricked!!The other thing is that if you flash custom kernel I think the binary counter will change to 1 and I'm afraid that you can lose your warranty. So be careful.

I tried it. I think it's boot (play sound on start, then short vibration), but there is "samsung galaxy ace 5830i" on screen, My PC install new drivers for GT-S5630 Odin see 2 COM ports. Download mode works, recovery don't.
I think that there is no our screen driver in this kernel, or this kernel not support our resolution.
when i tried to boot it second time, there was no sound, but it blinked by flashlight, i think it was instead of vibration...
custom rom countor not matter for me, it's 24 now
i'm planning to make usb jig
sorry for my english

Maybe it will be usefull to ask kernel Mark-OS sources and config?
Flashing a kernel can kill your phone!! If it is overclocked strangely with bizarre voltages your ace could be permanently killed. I wouldnt go freely flashing kernels for other phones

I've since become a Galaxy Ace 5830i and just noticed that there is no kernel for this phone and no custom Roms ... Will it give CyanogenMod for that Phone?
I tried to make something but it don't work so I gave up because don't have time to make a kernel..And I need alot to read to make it happen because I'm not very familiar with android.Actually there is CM 7.2 made by Hayemaker from 4PDA.Bug it has many bugs which I really don't have a clue how to fix so any help is apreciated

How can I help to build a custom kernel for Ace 5830i... What can I do?
is that one init.d supported kernel posted over here completely works ??
as no wifi , camera and other problems right ?
There is a init.d script which is working posted on 4PDA by finist1.
There are people who say it's working. But I myself haven't tried it so don't know if it works..

can you confirm that deep sleep bug which i just saw got a patch in SGY threads..
download cpu spy from market and if it says some percentage in deep sleep or its unused ??
also can you just give that init.d kernel give it a try as i am using it as base currently to get bacis files out
Waiting for an answer in 4pda.They'll tell me if it's working and is there any bugs.I have flashed it myself. No init.d file in proc foldier. But my custom binery counter is at 1.I don't see any difference.Where have you seen this deep sleep bug?No such thing on my phone.Everything works fine as usual...

Hi,
I'm with a lot of problems with the battery life duration in the Galaxy Note. I'm with the 'fuel_alerted' and 'l2_hsic' problems that are draining my battery in ~6hrs even with all of data and connection disabled.
I tryed to remove the battery and put it again but it still with this problem.
Now I have decided to change my GNote and put an Custom Rom. I'm using the ICS 4.0.3 Official Samsung Germany Rom in a brazilian GNote.
Anybody knows what kernel I can install and what rom has all features like S-Pen and S-apps with all of widgets that i have in touchwiz? (note that i don't like touchwiz, but i like the widgets that are in this launcher)
I read something about some bricks problems too when installing customs roms in gnote. I have changed my roms since my old Milestone 1 and then with the SGSI without problems. In Galaxy Note do i have any special process?
Best,
Leandro
Try kingdroid v3
it's not that custom ROMs can kill your note ,it's actually a bug in the official ICS kernel (i.e what you are using atm) that causes the internal NAND memory to fry when you wipe or flash something while on that kernel ,you can read the sticky for more details .
the only safe method out is to flash a GB kernel using PC ODIN then flash a custom ROM using GB recovery.
there also a few custom ICS kernels which are safe ,this includes CM9 ,speedmod ICS ,franco ics r3 and above.
you could wait till tomorrow and flash cm920120614 directly from LPY as cm9 team has implemented a safety lock against this bug in their cm9 flashable zip.
note however that the last option have not been tested yet and you will take a chance if you try it.
So I am sort of new to the Android world and so far this forum's been very helpful,
I bought a second hand device with Criskelo ROM ICS v11 installed , and I have 3.0.15 NoteCore v11.1 Kernel.
Android version 4.0.4
Phone is note very stable. I am not sure if thats the case will all androids but when i compare to ios its sort of pathetic.
I want to remove Criskelo , maybe get something much lighter and with less bugs.
I've read many guides but I still dont get a few things :
1- What are CM9 and CM10 ? are those custom ROMs?
2- I read somewhere that my kernel is "safe". Does this mean I wont brick my phone no matter what i flash/install/remove ?
3- Also Are there different versions for Stock ROMs around ? I thought a stock rom for ICS 4.0.4 would be "unique" . This thread is a bit confusing
4- I am thinking of giving Paranoid Android a try but I read on a different site that I would lose my s-pen sensitivity and s-note access.
5- Lets say I want to install PA, is it better if I go to stock , then root then install PA or install PA without reverting back to stock ROM in the first place?
Sorry for my bad english ,
Thank you all

hi
1/ CM9 and CM10 are costom roms called AOKP that means this roms are not based on the stock rom ,it is based on the android open source project . this rom does not have the TW (touchWizz) suport.
2/ your karnel is safe mean that the eMMC_erase_cape was disabled by the developer ,and you can do wipes without riscks ,but flashing some thing dangerous can brick your phone.
3/ yes there is alot of stock release I list some : LQ2 ,LQ3 ==> 4.0.3 and LRG LRI LRK LRQ ==> 4.0.4 my favorite is LRQ.
4/ yes paranoid is not a TW rom it is an AOKP rom no suport for Spen and no Spen applications ,but it is a nice rom you should try it.
5/ you can install PA from any rom ,if you are on crisklo's or any other stock based roms you must do a full wipe affter the installation ,or it will not boot.
I think I answer to all your questions ,my english is bad sorry for that .
any other questions I will be here
thanx

1 its AOSP not AOKP.... AOKP its another custom rom like cm9/10 Wich are builded from AOSP.
2 its KERNEL universal software term for that part of the OS you don't need to know English to write it properly.
3 -
4 PA its not AOKP and it's compiled from CM10 sources.
5 you need to wipe when changing roms no matter what.. You just gotta be sure you are on a safe kernel before doing so

2/ thanx for the correction (I hate linux any way)
3/
4/ no we don't need wipe if we are going from an cmX to CMX and if we are going from stock/based stock to stock/based stock without changing CSC .
re : I noticed that you treat noobs like sh*t on this forum ,we are humains !!
I didn't do any thing wrong I think ...
Thanks All
I just installed stock ICS 4.0.4
All my data is still there, i dont know maybe i need to wipe AFTER i install stock.
The way I've done it is : put phone in odin mode ( volume down , power and home key )
connect to pc
load odin , load the image and click start
and that was pretty much it , at no point did i have to wipe reset all data. ( i wanted to but i dont know why it didnt happen ) so all my data and apps are still there
I believe I am not rooted at the moment. and my Kernel has now changed back to : 3.0.15 - N7000XXLRK-CL811902
I would like to root the phone and also wipe all data if possible.
Should i change my kernel as a first step ? and if yes give me a safe way /tutorial link
thanks
You are not rooted and you need to do a full wipe
But it should be done only with a safe kernel
Flash hydracore kernel and you will automatically get rooted and then ,its safe to do a full wipe
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1749863
Never do a full wipe on stock kernel
Hi guys, I am new to this Forum.. I wanted to root my GT-N7000. So i searched the forums and i followed the guide of Dr.ketan and used the recommended method ( 1A - Flashing safe kernal with CWM recovery with touch 5 ). Had a bootloop on second restart, ( did reset and rooted the phone using the 1B method flashing SuperSU and Busybox ) Nevertheless successfully rooted my phone.
Now i wanna try Custom ROMs..Is there any precautions to be considered other than Nandroid backup?.. Also i have only a 2GB memory card.. Would it be enough to make Nandroid Backup?..
I also read by Installing Custom ROMs, we will lose Stock apps ( Since apps like S Note need some TW kernal ).. Is there anyway to Port or install or Mod available to install stock apps like SNote and Splanner in Custom ROMs?..
Finally, will the SPen work with Custom ROMs??.. I mean will the Custom ROMs for Note will have the Kernals Inbuilt for SPen or we have to install the Kernals required?..
Thanks a lot for viewing this thread and Thanks in Advance for your replies
PS:- Please excuse me, if the above questions have been asked before, cuz i searched for it and couldn't find it or they were complicated for a noob like me!
For flashing custom roms you will first need a custom kernel with cwm and safe to flash from.
It depends on the ROM you want to flash.
Don't worry about the sd card size, you can make backups to internal sd also.
Custom rom based on touchwiz do come with the apps you mentioned. But if you are going to try AOSP&CM roms them they won't work as they need tw framework.
Kernels not required for spen. Framework. Roms based on Samsung firmware support spen but AOSP&CM roms will not. As a stylus it does work though. Not like popus you get on Samsung roms.

I had already flashed Philz safe kernal with CWM.. So I dont need to flash kernals if the Custom ROMs are based on CWM right?.. and for the Spen to work, i just have to find Custom ROMs based on samsung firmware support? or Custom ROMs based on TW?..
Thanks for your help
If you have flashed philz kernel then you should be good to flash most of the roms except 4.4 as they need newer version of cwm. Eg raw kernel.

Thanks a lot.. I have one more question ( pls bare with me )..
If for eg.. i wanna download this SuperBean v1.5 XXLT6.. The last 5 letters, what exactly are they?.. My mobile Build No ends with:- DDLSC and my Baseband version ends with :- DDLS6...
Does this last 5 letters of Superbean ( XXLT6 ) have anything to do with my Build No or Baseband version?.. When i downloaded the Philz touch 5 CMW recovery with safe kernels i Noticed, he had seperate files for seperate Build Nos..
So do i have to check the Custom ROMs for my Build Nos or is it only for kernels and CMW?..
Thanks for your help
Those are roms build for different regions. You can flash any build number. It's up to the developers on which rom version is his ROM based upon.

One more thing to do before installing a custom rom is to BACKUP YOUR EFS FOLDER.
Or do not do it and your phone could end as a small tablet/big mp3 player.
Unlikely, but i bought one with damaged EFS folder last week to replace my screen. It does happen.
