Hi guys,
I don't want to bother you with (probably) a noob request, but I'm having troubles with my sgs+. It's suffering from the dreaded in call echo bug (the hardware kind), so I tried to disable my internal mic, but I can not, edit the phone.apk for the love of god! Tried everything, APKTool and such, and no luck... (too dumb I guess), thing is I would like to avoid deodexing, flashing of a new rom because it will void my warranty... It's just rooted stock rom.
Can somebody turn of that infernal microphone?
Here are my Phone.apk and framework-res.apk files.

what stock rom are you running? If you're running a version below KQE you should update it. your warranty is void anyway by rooting it, so update it ^^
And I don't know how to do that with Phone.apk, but one thing I know for sure, and that is that framework-res.apk could never ever be related to anything related to calling (it only includes layouts/images)
I can unroot the phone I have it all figured out
It's a PDA: I9001XXKPO (I guess telenor custom rom), that kies doesn't want to update (and it's a 2.3.5 version :/ )
There is a thread here how to do that, but I can't decompile the phone.apk :|

hi guys. im new to this forum and would like some help on how to change the status bar on my milestone(droid).. my phone is rooted and i have metamorph installed and am running android 2.1 stock.
When i apply a theme to other apks from metamorph everything is fine but when i try to apply it to the framework-res.apk my phone reboots and nothing is changed i also tried to use AndoidCommander to pull the framework-res.apk manually, change the images and put it back in but it doesnt change any help pls? Thanks
Wrong section, and try using the search function.
sorry which forum is it supposed to be in?
also i tried to search but nothing seemed to work
ok guys i managed to at least push the apk using the terminal app.. but everytime it reboots everything starts to force close and i have to reinstall the sbf using rsd lite... do you know what im doing wrong please?
Um well I don't bother with theming myself, but in the absence of any more helpful responses, if you're running a stock ROM I imagine it's odex'ed & you can't theme an odex'ed ROM. You could look into deodexing the ROM but aiui it's quite a bit of work. Probably easier to find a custom ROM you like, which isn't odex'ed & start from that. E&OE.
thanks for replying mate the problem is that the milestone cannot run custom ROMs due to a locked bootloader... the problem is that i can mod all the apks except the framework-res.apk, which when modified using the terminal app, makes all the applications force close..
EDIT: ok i tried to deodex the modified framework-res.apk and push it on the phone but still didn't work any help guys?
Hello,
I just got my first android phone, X8. I've read through sticky threads about upgrading and various other threads, and I'm just about to install GingerDX (Is that a good choice?).
But I haven't found anything warranty related on X8 forums, and while I did found some stuff on other boards, I'd really like to know specifically about X8.
Basically, I'd like to know if it's possible (and if it's needed) to revert to the currently installed android version to have my warranty honored in case of a non-OS related issue? I'm assuming it's done via xRecovery, but can they tell that something has been done with the OS, and is the process more difficult than upgrade itself? Also, will I be able to revert to the exact OS that was installed on the phone, or just a vanilla 2.1 installation?
P.S. I've seen many Croatia flags under people names on this board, so to those people - since I'm from Croatia : Have you had or heard about experiences related to this issue?
Thank you for reading,
P.
The warranti is void, as you root your phone. But there is SEUS for that. If the phone can flash himself the stock firmware to the phone, you can get your warranty. If not, then hope for that.
You can always flash a backup of your stock ROM via a recovery, and then you can unroot with SuperOneClick.
But If you´ve made other changes in the internal memory, like App2SD, better reflash the latest original 2.1 with SEUS/PCC/Flashtool
BTW:
Yes, GingerDX is a very good choice
Good to hear, that about answered all of my questions.
Thank you both!
ok, hi fellow cappys... first i wanted to say that im started to learn more and more about all this (developments, modding, custom flashing, etc etc) which is cool, cuz ive gotten ballsier and flashed leaked roms (sometimes soft bricking my cappy and what not, but been able to fix the error with help from the forums), which leads me to my next train of thought...
ive just flashed [ROM] 2.3.5 Stock KJ2 with extended power menu.... (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1297223&page=1) and right off the bat have got to say that this rom is awesome! very fast, love the new looks, tweaks, etc, but have noticed that i am getting quite a bit of forced closes, and system freezes where the only thing that helps is taking he battery out, waiting a min or 2, and restarting the phone... wondering if anyone else has or is having this problem??? and if so, is there or will there be a workaround or fix for this?
second i just noticed that when i went in the settings, then about phone, my csc says UNKNOWN... what does that mean? is this bad? what should i do to fix?
third, my iternal sdcard space is almost gone, been through it with a fine tooth comb and cant figure out why there only like 300MB left for storage...
fourth, what bloatware can i safely remove from the stock 2.3.5 rom?
fifth, my settings for ringtone/notification/etc keep getting revert back to default after i reboot my phone... anyone else noticed this?
sixth, can someone please help me figure out how the naming of builds is done, am confused if kh3 is better/newer than kj1 or kj2, or jvr, etc? also, what does odexing mean and what is the benefit, as well as zipalign?
ok, think thats all it for now. thanks to everyone who posts replies on the forums for helping noobs like me, and to the devs for being so flippin incred for all their work in the creation of developments for all us cappys
p.s. was running uckb2 build 1106, and getting the sleep death issue.... since ive flashed the new rom i havent noticed that happening hardly at all... could this possibly be a fix, or is just temp? do/should i really send my cappy to samsung for fix or just deal with it...? thanks again!
1. When you upgraded, did you restore from a backup, and if so did you restore any system settings. Restoring apps is OK, restoring system data results in FCs. I would do clean install and then restore only your apps from backup (you can usually get away with restoring data from games, but never restore any system data).
2. CSC is Consumer Software Customization and has all of the carrier-specific software and settings. If your cell service, data, MMS, etc is all working, don't worry about it.
3. Are you referring to your application space or your mountable storage (where you would store music, pictures, etc)?
5. If you restored system data from backup, my guess is that is causing this problem as well. As with #1, I would start with a clean install.
6. As I understand it, if you treat the letters as if they were numbers (A < B < C), and then treat the whole version number as a 3 digit "number," you can figure out what is newer. KJ2 is newer than KJ1, but both are newer than KH3.
As far as deodex/zipalign goes, I have no first-hand experience but from what I understand deodexing moves all relevant data into the application .apk so it can be altered without messing up other programs. Zipaligning is a way of compressing the APKs so they can be read more efficiently.
I believe the sleep death issue was resolved after KB2 so it shouldn't be a fluke.
Good luck!

Here's my understanding of the letter naming conventions (at least for I897 ROMs...I900 ROMs "JVx" still don't make sense to me except for saying A<B<C, etc). Don't remember where in the forums I saw it though:
1st letter: year of the build
2nd letter: month of the build
number: build# within that month
Ex: "KH3" = 3rd build in August 2011
"KJ2" = 2nd build in October 2011, etc
As I said, "JVR" & "JVT", etc from I9000 ROMs still doesn't make sense to me though...
Hello to all!
First of all thank u xda for beeing so usefull to all android users (like me).
I bought my s plus in April, one week later i´ve sucessfuly rooted (thanks to xda developers ).
Unfortenely this model by samsung isnt popular in my country (Portugal) and this time I could really need your help.
My s plus auto restarts. Sometimes 1x month, 1x week, today por example it restarts 3x in 1 minute. I know when he restarts because i hear the welcome song from samsung.
My question is, is there something I could do to solve this problem?
And the second questions is, what are the benefits of having a new rom. And if it solves problems like this one in particular.
The last question : there´s a app that does "fix permissions". Could this be the source to my smartphone restart??
THANK YOU
First, what ROM do you use? Is it brand one, (i.e you didn't change it since you bought the phone)?
Secod, which apps did you give a superuser permission? For example Invalid or infected app with root access could cause this. Generally rooting your phone means you can easily mess up something (you are administrator, so you can access ALL system files). Try to do a factory reset (for example hard reset with the code *2767*3855# - be advised in will delete EVERYTHING exept your external sdcard and get rid of ROOT) and then install only those apps you trust.
Yes, changing ROM could fix this problem in particular, the same way reinstalling operating system (e.g Windows) can fix a computer if it misbehaves. However this could also be a hardware problem, and in this case flashing ROM won't help and you should take your phone to manufacturer on warranty.
On the other hand it is good to flash custom ROM on i9001 because this phone has a good potential, and custom ROMs will give you a lot of advantages over brand ROM.
Fix permissions is a script which ensures that every App and App data are on their place - matching themselves. If used properly it rather fixes problems than causing them (I used this option a lot), but I am not specialist at this matter.
Hi there.
Thank you so much for the reply!!
The rom of my smartphone its the brand one.
Other specs : Firmware : 2.3.5
Gingerbread.bukp2
I have installed the app superuser + link2sd after I rooted. So i think all the programs have permission. Each time i install a app, it goes to sd card.
I was avoyding a factory reset. I will only do that if there is no other option. And when I do, i will get rid of root and go to the vodafone store with its warranty.
I allready see that there are a lot of roms for the i9001 . I agree with you, there are a lot of pottencial in this phone. What sould i choose? And to install other rom, will it erase all data??
I have the app ROM MANAGER. I never used because i´m afraid not using it right. There is a option that says : "fix permissions".
So..lol....can you give me some advice??
Thank you

Hi there.
So i´ve found several websites that explains how to update to 2.3.6
I have a question, I´m from Portugal and in here there are no oficial updates from samsung, the latest its 2.3.5 .
Can i install a version from other country in Europe? Portuguese language??
Thanks
Don't be afraid o losing data - that's what backups are for. Flashing new ROM means losing all data - system partitions, apps, settings, contacts, call history, sms, and your internal sdcard (/sdcard partition). External sdcard (/emmc partition) is not touched.
Find a "Flashing a ROM" guide on this forum, read read and read it again. Then you will know pretty much everything needed to flash a new ROM.
There is a good site to begin with: http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S_Plus/GT-I9001

Hehe, that's how fixing thing work. Maybe it'll work, maybe not
Some other guy claims that its the problem of brand 2.3.3 ROM, so factory reset WON'T solve this problem in my opinion. You have to flash new ROM. What can I suggest?
If you are not afraid o losing warranty (I wasn't) I'd install MoonROM or BroodROM. These are heavily modified custom ROMs, that are very stable, battery friendly, very popular, very customizable, tested many times and considered best. Note that replacing brand ROM voids your warranty, but you can backup your brand ROM with recovery (e.g TWRP - Team Win Recovery Project) and restore it anytime you want (restoring your warranty as well).
If you don't want to lose warranty, it's good to install Stock ROM. It is official ROM released by Samsung, but not ported by your service provider. On this site, there is also list of Stock ROMs. Almost all of them have european languages.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S_Plus/GT-I9001#Gingerbread_2.3.6
XXKQ1 is most stable and best Stock ROM so far.
XXKQB or XXKQE are prettier (value pack) but more buggy and less stable
Cheers
Edit: Don't use Kies to flash a new ROM. I soft-bricked my phone with it. Flash via Odin or via Recovery
I haven't backup of my stock rom. Now my USB it is broken. Is it possible to flash a backup stock rom to send my phone in warranty?
Thank u so much for beeing so usefull!
I will try a flashing rom!
I have one last question : do i need to unroot my phone before flashing a new rom ? The costumized roms gives us superuser permissions ? I rooted my phone so i can pass the apps to the sd card and to unistall apps like "sims trial...".
Maybe tomorrow i will try to flash a rom, but first i need to know this
Thanks a lot

Hi everyone,
Okay, this is a question in an area I'm only just starting to learn about, so I'm prepared to be ridiculed, torn apart and shot full of holes. Here goes..
Last week I rooted and rolled back to 23.0.1.A.5.77. My bootloader is not unlocked. And I'm very happy with my install! But the one thing missing which I used to love in CM on my Xperia ZL is Quick Pin Unlock. That is, not needing to press OK when you've entered your PIN correctly. I've found a developer who made that happen on a Samsung ROM, and he's very kindly offered to take a look at the Z3C to see if it can be ported there.
However, for him to do this, he's said I'll have to be running a deodexed ROM, so that I can send him my android.policy.jar from system/framework. I'm not running a deodexed ROM though, and this isn't an area I know much about. So, my questions are:
1) Would obtaining android.policy.jar from someone else already with a deodexed install of .77 be sufficient for someone to investigate the Z3C version I'll be using, or does it specifically have to be from the install on my phone?
2) If the latter, then I'll have to deodex. I could use xultimate for this, right? That's what research seemed to suggest.
3) But if I do, can I un-deodex/restore odex afterwards?
4) If I can't just simply reverse it, can I do a full TA backup as it is now and then restore the phone in its entirety after I've supplied the file?
5) And if he got this working somehow, would I need to have a deodexed ROM regardless to use anything he might build? Could I not integrate this back into an odexed ROM and flash it?
Now.. ridicule me, tear me apart and shoot me full of holes
With thanks as always,
schnidex
