Best Rom

I want kingshero rom..but i hear running Hero Rom on G1 is kind of slow and laggy....What is the best Rom out and how can I get a hold of it and how can I install it???

Define "Best rom" please. The fastest one? The best one for gaming? The best one for social integration? The one with most features? The prettiest one? The best one for me? The best one for you? You see where I'm going with this?
You have so many tools at your hands: Nandroid backup, BART back-up, switch-rom, why don't you try all of the roms and pick YOUR best rom. Remember, search button is your friend.

This is such a solid explanation of "what's the best rom" thread, it should be stickied.

people should stop making these threads..I mean when you think about it, what in the world is the point of a search engine?!
@OP I'm sure you will find a few good 1000 threads on "Best ROM" but if you are feeling adventurous then do some Studying yourself. that way You will know what the best ROMs are.
just a suggestion though

Why do "Best Rom" threads bother everyone so much? You could just ignore them, you know. I'm sure there are folks who would love to give an opinion. If there's not, then the thread would quickly die.
I read them just to see how fast someone replies
A. Try them all and see for yourself.
B. Use the search button.
C. There is no Best Rom.
or D. Please close this thread.
In any case, everyone has different reasons for reading a thread. Just ignore the ones you're not interested in and everyone can be happy.

Because 10 "Best Rom" threads every week make it harder for people who actually search for answers.
Because there will be as many opinions as there are roms.
Because if someone does not reply this way, OP will just proceed to ask all of the "usual" questions (that have been answered multiple times) without a thought to search first.
Do we need any more reasons?

the best rom is cyanogen mod
if you cant do your own research flash that rom and dont use anything else
because like everyone said
there is no best
they are all good for something
you will find your fav rom when you try them all like we all have - and guess what

Those reasons are only valid if the pool of ROMS is static. Since new ones are released frequently, any previous opinions are probably outdated.
Yes there are many opinions. But, that's exactly what this question is looking for. I see these opinions as mini reviews. It gives a chance to explain what you like about a ROM. Maybe I'll see a comment that points out something I had not thought of as important.

I like Sonic 2 or Super Mario 3, there are some of ther good ones out their, but I always find myself going back to one of those two when I am bored.

If you guys actually read my post in its entirety you guys would realize that I did not just ask what is the best rom....I stated what i wanted and I also sated that i heard its slow and laggy....All I wanted was feedback about the HERO ROM....I said i wanted a HERO ROM....what is the best HERO ROM.....and i also asked how to get a hold of it...Also if you look at the amount of posts that I have put up, you can see I am new to this...But if I did not make myself clear....I WANT A HERO ROM.....but i hear runnign a HERO ROM on g1 is slow and laggy....WHAT IS THE BEST ROM(HERO).......SORRY IF I DIDNT MAKE MYSELF CLEAR....people in my other post helped me out greatly

New ROMs come out often, yes. However, that doesn't make all previous opinions "out-dated." The only ROM I've noted a significant difference in is Cyanogenmod. Used to always be kinda laggy (never too buggy) and with newest update it really flies. Other than that - most ROM "updates" are mainly just fixing minor bugs/adding some other random feature. Except for eclair ROMs, those are the only ROMs that are getting closer and closer to being "complete." Just because a ROM is the newest ROM released does not in any way mean it is now the best ROM out there.
As for best Hero ROM - none. They're too slow, and not really THAT great. That's just my opinion, though.
One more thing: ROMs are all based on YOUR opinion. These threads irritate me beyond measure. Its like when I ask my fiancee what she wants for dinner and she responds, "I don't care, anything sounds good." I say, "Ok, how about a steak?" to which she responds "I'm not in the mood for steak." I CAN'T TELL YOU WHAT YOU LIKE! YOU CAN'T TELL ANYONE ELSE WHAT THEY LIKE! PEOPLE HAVE TO BE ABLE TO THINK FOR THEMSELVES! The only possible thing this thread is able of achieving is a suggestion - which EVERY other thread like this has.

Did you seriously just say "due to their lack of knowledge and common sense"? You do understand that you post was equivalent to a newborn throwing up, right? I'm sorry, but if you're going to attack someone for their lack of knowledge, then you're going to have at least show your own. What he said has a very good point. There are too many threads like that that NEVER offer an answer. Only suggestions, and guess what? THE SUGGESTIONS ARE ALWAYS THE SAME. Pointed that out earlier in my post but I see it needs to be reiterated for you.
Oh, forgot to point out: It's "their" not "there". There is a place. Their is a group of people. You need a comma before "and" because everything after it is a full functioning sentence. Need/could use a comma before simply. You need to show a pause, other way that just sounds like a run-on sentence. "...common sense bug me" should be the end of the sentence. If you do not want to end the sentence there, you need to drop "and" and add a semi-colon before "congratulations." "Your" should be "you're." Actually... you are is more formal, but this is not a formal essay so it is acceptable your way. "Forums" needs to be "forum's" to show possession. You need punctuation at the end of your last sentence as well. Last thing: you do know you are only supposed to capitalize the first letter of a sentence, right?

Your original post does not state, in any form, that you want a Hero ROM. We are trying to help. What you don't understand is how we are helping. If none of us use search, I'm almost positive anyone here who can help will leave because of the massive amount of threads/posts that will be utterly pointless. I promise, searching is not hard and usually returns fantastic results. I understand you are new. If you want a good starting ROM - go with Cyanogen. Easy to flash, easy to update, great community support, a full fledged wiki with step by step directions, and the best feature: doesn't need Danger SPL as most hero ROMs do. Danger SPL has caused the most dead phones than any other issue. That's my suggestion.

Radio Question

I see there is a radio rom here that you can flash that supposedly increases battery life and signal now does this rom work with Damage's rom (i prefer as video works) also if you do flash to this new rom what are some downsides to using it can you revert back to default radio?
None the less I have to also say jesu GREAT JOB GUYS this new rom has changed my phone comp both Fresh and Damages roms were leaps and bounds above sprints default and I am just dumb founded on why these guys dont work for htc or sprint themselves ill be donating at the beg of the month to both of you guys great work!

as for your question, was it really necessary to make a thread about this? if you saw the radio posted on a thread, simply click it and read the directions. use search to see if it works on damagecontrol. it makes things a lot faster and gets the forum less cluttered. there's even a tutorial on geekfor.me step by step for flashing the radio.

I mean, if he can really do what he says, its impressive. but he barely releases anything, just speaks about being the first in this or that, without giving any information, or answering the questions, and etc ...
I noticed he is doing the same thing in other htc wp7 devices threads as well.
I definitely value his work, and I don't mean to offend anyone, but i think he should only make new threads when he is actually releasing something, rather than just speaking about what he has achieved.
Edit: He has now released his work in his threads. I'm really sorry for being impatient, and i hope he accepts my sincere apology.

Now i remember this guy from back in HD2 threads, speaking of development of a wp7 rom for hd2 which never came out, and all we got was a 6.5 rom that no one could manage to make it boot except himself...
Now i feel like he is doing the same thing in hd7 rom development ... first this and that ... without really achieving anything.
I definitely value his work if he can really do it, but it seems to me that he is just seeking attention. his next problem is his language , he is writing real poor English , and you have to read his posts 10 times before you understand it
I should wait some days/weeks before a mod should close his threads .
I think he just has to tell some more what he is doing .
the one thing where you are right all the way is ,that he makes way to much threads of the same all over the place .

He is definately making progress and I'm not sure what you mean by barely released anything, he has released a number of roms so far that work exactly the way he said they would and has also posted yesterday and today the first rom's designed to allow you to cross flash between area's and operators. So put a 02 UK Rom on a standard HD7 Europe device etc, etc.

[Q] Flashing GSM Rom on CDMA Tab

I can't seem to find a good post or thread about this so I'll be the one to ask the dumbest question.
Can a GSM rom be flashed to a CDMA tab? Other than networking issue with the modem, will phone actually boot and be usable on wifi? I'm assuming it most likely will either not work at all or just FC constantly but wanted to ask first.
MODS please delete after a few answers. I don't want to waste thread space...

Anybody has flashed this before ? And i don't know can Verizon tab be able to flash rom for Sprint Tab ?

One of the other members did and it worked, I am not sure what was FC'ing but he was using it that way. A word of WARNING, if you accidentally flash the modem with the GSM one, its dead forever! You cannot restore it!!
But yeah it should boot, and be able to use WiFi.

Verizon and Sprint use the same radio's so this should not be an issue

OK second question. Where on earth can I find the VZW firmware files to use with Odin or Heimdall? I flashed the Klean ROM and like it but then I realized I was having problems finding the stock pit and pda files to revert back to stock if needed!
I would love if I could use GSM ROM's. I bought a Verizon TAB (mistake now that I realized this) and just use it for WIFI only so network access is not an issue for me.

Downloading now but I'm pretty sure thats it! You are awesome. And I'm a lazy searcher.

try this... its the vzw recovery package i use... unrar and bring it into hiemdall... try using the voodoo overclocked kernal with it... great improvements, blazing fast, and the sound is unmatched... im not sure why, and i could very well be doing it wrong... but when i flash the zImage for the kernal, i always have to flash that zImage into the recovery as well... like i said idk why but 90% of the time my flash will fail unless i do that... so if you have any problems try it... hope this helps!

I'd actually really like to know this as well... I've got a VZW tab I was given from a friend who updated to a Xoom... I'm only ever gonna use it wifi, and am a bit disappointed in the lack of roms for CDMA tabs... if a GSM Rom would work, and let me use wifi, that would be great for folks like me.

How can I avoid to flash the modem with the GSM one ? I usally use heimdall-frontend.exe to flash !

I could be wrong, but if you go through frontend dont you have to manually palce the moden file into the slot for modem? couldnt you just flash everything but modem? or is it in the kernal as well??

Yeah, I got a free tab, and I know next to nothing about it, so I'm trying to find out some information. I dunno that I would call expressing mild disappointment really classifies as "*****ing" but, hey, thanks for YOUR contribution to the thread too, guy. Super helpful. I understand the VZW tab isn't nearly as popular, and that means less people working on it, or maybe there are technical difficulties or something. I have no idea. I just know there is less information, etc. out there about it, and that's disappointing. Nowhere did I say anything like "people here suck for not supporting my device!" The ROM makers here are a talented bunch, that much is obvious... I really like what they're doing, and I'm guessing so does the OP. That's why we're asking about GSM roms... we obviously liked something someone made, and wish we could use it on our device. We're trying to find information, and you come and attack someone with the equivalent of an ER nurse getting mad at a Vet for coming in with a question about their daughter, and demanding that they help treat her themselves.
If I had ANYTHING even CLOSE to as helpful as some of the people here to contribute right now, I would... but I don't... I'm just trying to learn about this device. At my level of knowledge right now, I don't HAVE anything to give. So very sorry if that somehow offends you personally.

Hmm. I wonder what my PM reply from you will have to say in it lol. Anyhow, is a soft brick inevitable? Are there options I can avoid such as obviously not flashing the modem? Or param.lfs? To prevent a soft brick. One person claims it worked on a certain ROM from them. I know I can find out the hard way myself but if I can benefit from someone else's experience I'd like to see if I can do that first.

Think about it guys you've got devs, and then you have those of us who are just using what the devs design, be it lack of knowledge or lack of effort, either way if you have a free tab, make a backup, make a couple backups, and try it, or maybe get with a dev working on your tab to add the features of the gsm tab to our vzw tab. help them test it, It makes sense that devs get pissed when someone says i got a free tab, do some research, make some effort to further the development for a device in which the devs purchase in most cases with they're own money, and if they brick it in the process they are out alot more money then you are. and the way they save them selves is by again treading on undiscovered territory. So instead of asking make some attempt. learn to use the emulator, learn your device, if you are just getting to know the device then it may not be a good idea to jump right into rooting, and flashing roms....

Oh and I'm running Overcome ROM right now on my VZW TAB. I'll be posting a video of the steps to take to ensure this works correctly some time this weekend.
Looks like my VZW may work out afterall...

Hey man, watched your video review great stuff, any update date on how you got the rom on your CDMA Tab however? I just got a Sprint Tab and would love to flash Overcome on it...thanks for any advice

Working InfraRed (IR) on GT-P3113 using U.K. JB ROM

Just figured this out totally by accident! I have the U.S. version of the GTab 2 7.0 GT-P3113, otherwise the one that has built in remote control capabilities via IR blaster. Just to let everyone know that if you flash the U.K. version of the JellyBean ROM listed on this thread, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2032683, And do so WITHOUT WIPING DATA, while coming from the STOCK 4.0.4 ROM...
YOU WILL RETAIN IR FUNCTIONALITY!!!
Peel, TouchSquid and others that use this IR port will still function.
I hope this helps at least one other person, and always you can click that little ol' ty button if you'd like to.

IR should work on all stock based roms.
The issue is with non stock roms such as cm or aokp.
Please search next time before posting.

Oh so clever! I told them that this has been covered. I informed him. Then I also let him know its in the wrong section, as this isn't really dev work, but more of a general thing. I'm sorry I don't have the energy to overly explain things to people every time. You can go to your lollipop forum, and leave the xda. It is not my fault that you took it in a negative way. It is in a couple of the threads with stock firmwares. People with 3113 tabs flashed 3100 roms and were delighted to discover IR still working. I don't know the exact thread, but it has been covered already. Again, just letting you know it is old news, and you'll be better off posting this in the general section.
There, was that non ahatish enough? I suppose my thanks count means nada, or the multitudes I've helped via PM and email when nobody else would. Meh.

the September 18th "leak" fixed the IR issue on the P3113 and any stock based 4.1.1 ROM has since been updated to that base fixing the IR issue, I've been on this section of XDA for less then a month and am aware of this. Perhaps if you have been active here in the last 3 months you might be aware of this. And not being rude but he is right, this is the development section and what you provided belongs on the general section but is frankly unneeded information as it is several months out of date as a proper fix has come out.

You guys seem to have missed the post where I already agreed that this should be under general. Also, I scavenge these forums on a daily basis, If I missed that bit of info where this is already covered, then I missed it's because it was buried in some thread that wasn't specifically covering the topic of the IR port working in non GT-P3113 OEM ROMs. I know a couple of people who've avoided using anything but the stock 4.0.4 simply for fearing the IR port not being able to function.
But that's not the point, not trying to spread old news, just trying to make specific information easier to find, which I believe I've accomplished.
Now if a moderator wants to move/delete this thread, then so be it. I understand this should've gone under general, and I can admit that I put this in the wrong section. That being said, all future posts damning my thread for being in the wrong section, will be considered trolling, which is, of course, not cool.

Digital, how did you know my gnex broke!? You're psychic! Though every other device under current I do have, lol. I forgot about sigs since I only browse via tapatalk. Will revise it later. At work now and don't feel like editing on mobile.

I admit in my delightment to discover this by accident I posted hastely. Mayen running a JB ROM finally, the performance boost is quite nice, and of course its a perk to have IR functionality, I use it often.
Sorry to hear about your broken device. I wish you quality, cheap repairs!
