This is a development question that I am certain some of you might have an answer for. What we do know is that the bootloader on Chinese i9100g's is locked and will block you from flashing "SBL, MSO, Modem," everything else can be mixed and matched if from the same platform.
Now assuming we have a way to avoid the lock and replace the bootloader, is it possible to replace the Chinese bootloader with another from India or Malaysia? or is this also somehow locked in the chipset firmware? I doubt that Samsung would bother to alter the product at that level for one market.

AOKP build 38
Modified CM9 kernel
We've been looking for a way to replace it for a long time now to no avail. If there was a way, a lot of people would be frantic to try out the leaked ICS from China when it first got posted.
Having a Chinese phone myself, I can deal with the bootloader, since everything else is basically changeable through some methods, whether it's through Mobile Odin, or CWM.

I've been stuck with the leaked bootloader in order to use ICS, it works fine but I know there is some kind of backdoor the Government has mandated to avoid a repeat of the so called Jasmine revolts, working at ZTE China has given me a little extra information.

Hey guys ive been trying to get all i need to flash xxjpy firmware just one question?
i saw (by complete accident i might add) a guide to ''how to flash with odin'' and the guy or whatever said i need an unlocked sgs - simlock free phone as it wer, is that true? Mine is a branded vodafone 100% locked on it. Will something unspeakable happen if i try to flash it this way? (Brand new phone so im kinda nervous)
Any help may be exchanged for sexual favors xD
ps: Only hot women are elligible for the above
It's probably safer to unlock your phone before you flash it using ODIN, for obvious reasons..
P.S. I pass on thy offer.
EDIT: To unlock your phone, try this tool: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
So i should unlock then flash with odin......ok
one last questio Is it a permanent unlock or is it more like the iphone ultrasn0w type of deal? which needs to be unlocked everytime you update/restore?
Might be easier just to reg hack kies to get xxjpy?

which rom version are you on now ? you can always get the same version from samfirmware.com(you need to sign up to d/l the firmware) that your currently on.
If you really need to back up your rom then you'll need ROM manager & the phone needs to be rooted as well, the easiest way is to use One click root.
You don't need to have an unlocked/unbranded phone to use odin, you just need to have kies installed for the usb drivers & for kies to be exited whilst using odin.
Here is a pretty good guide for how to use odin, take you time read it throughly, make sure you understand it & remember your doing this at your own risk

This will do nothing other than changing your baseband, nothing else will change and you can do it with whatever ROM you have installed, custom or stock.
1. Get the latest ROM for your region, the simplest way to do that is to use CheckFusDownloader which you can find here: http://fus.nanzen.se/
Start the program and choose firmware, phone (GT-S5570) and region on the right side, then click check firmware on the left side, finally click download and save it to c:\baseband.
2. Get Cygwin here: http://www.cygwin.com/
Install Cygwin (you don't need to change anything if you don't want to, just let setup run it's course until it's installed) and start the Cygwin terminal.
In cygwin, type:
Code:
cd /cygdrive/c/baseband
tar -xvf [filename of your downloaded ROM] amss
tar -H ustar -c amss > MODEM_S5570.tar
For example, if the filename of the ROM you downloaded with CheckFusDownloader is S5570XWKQG_S5570XWKQ5_S5570OXFKQ6_HOME.tar.md5 then you'd type:
Code:
cd /cygdrive/c/baseband
tar -xvf S5570XWKQG_S5570XWKQ5_S5570OXFKQ6_HOME.tar.md5 amss
tar -H ustar -c amss > MODEM_S5570.tar
Once you're done with that you have a baseband file in your C:\baseband directory called MODEM_S5570.tar that you can flash as one package using Odin.
Remember that basebands are intercompatible so just pick the one that is for your region.
And no, no custom rom will care about it regardless of what they say.
Hi
this seems cool trick but to what I understand it gets the baseband out from a downloaded firmware (please correct me if wrong)
Would it be possible to just extract the basesband from the phone?
thanks
Sorry sir I don't get it
Is this just change the baseband I mean just the appearance In about phone or change the system too?

No, it will change the baseband in the phone as in replace your current baseband.
The baseband controls GSM/GPRS/G3/GPS settings which means that if you flash a ROM for another region than your own you might run into problems with all or some of those. For example, i can't remember how many posts i have read on this forum about GPS problems when people have flashed a ROM that isn't for their region.
You can use this procedure to fix that problem, just flash the baseband for your region and it will work fine on ANY ROM, custom or stock.
Basically, it's a universal fix to a problem that some people have.

Nope, you'd need the block area on the phone where it's stored and dd it.
this is for flashing basebands on roms available and if your rom isn't it's because it's old, just use the checkfusdownloader to get the most recent and you'll be fine with that.
I thought i made it all clear in the first post.

I am sure you must have made it clear, only may b I did not understand clearly, and sorry I still do not get this how to do it.
Lets say I got the brand new phone and nothing has been modified, how do I take the baseband out from the PHONE for future use in case if I need to restore the baseband in future.
So anyways, if it is possbile to get it out of the PHONE, please explain it in details how do I do it, sorry I am quite new to this thats why.

You don't, you download the latest ROM for your region with checkfusdownloader and use the rest to get whatever baseband you want INTO the phone.
If you already have the correct baseband for your region, why would you change it, if you have the wrong one, you replace it using the method in the OP.
It is possible, but i am not going to spend the time researching blocks to find it, so either you do that yourself for no reason what so ever, or you go with another amss from the same rom that you have which IS THE SAME BASEBAND.
It's not phone unique, it's unique to every region and you can find it or an updated version using the tool i referenced in the OP, if you cannot, your phone doesn't exist or at least Samsung haven't produced that phone.
I am not sure how to make this any more clear than that.

Now it is quite clear to me, thanks.
The only reason I wanted to get one out from my phone was that, the things seem quite ok with the phone so my baseband is quite ok, but in other rom (for my region) if it is an updated one and if there are some better features or removed bugs (unknown to me) then I would install it through your method. But after installing new one if I find that my old baseband was working better than this new one, I would not have chance to put the old one back. So was the reason to backup the baseband from the phone just in case new one does not work good for me.
But as you have made it understood quite clear, thanks for this, really appreciated your help.

Ok, the point of this thread was to provide the TOOL (checkfusdownloader) and the WAY(the explained extraction and compilation of one file that will work.
I still don't get why you don't just use that information.
You CAN use even old basebands found via checkfusdownloader.
If you don't get how to use it, just say so because this seems a bit... puckered with nada.

Wait, why would you flash the CSC, this tutorial is for flashing baebadn without ANYTHING else affected.
And that is what the procedure does, it just changes your baseband without chanign ganything else.
You can pretty much flash any file this way, including recovery or what have you.
So yeah, whatever firmware you want, with whatever baseband you need, this is how you do it.

To answer this as the question is in need of answer.
Yes, you can do that with any rom file in any way you wish except for the boot, img and the arm11 file, just don't mess with those.
If yo REALLY want to, i can tell you how but at that point you'll want more than one phone per person.
my bad I mean the amss file that contains baseband and related stuff
since you had gently answered that is doable via ODIN, so what about the ops file should i leave it as he is.
sorry to bother you mate, and thanks again

My wife died tonight.
YOu can use the regular way of flashing it or just electing out one part in the tass and flash it.
Now everyone will be wary of it because i made a mistake.. .it's not really a problem, you just comment out the line you won't use. i'll bet my left ball on that.
That said, i've experienced a lot lately, so bear with me if i'm slow but expect everything exactly correct.

Flash via Odin as one package with the normal ops, the same ops file that we have been using to flash stock ROMs, in Download mode as always.. now, only do this if you already have a custom ROM.. It will not wipe any data but it is recommended to do a nandroid backup just in case something goes wrong.. Check About Phone, Baseband Version to see the changes..
question
if i have 2.3.6 xwktn, can i use 2.3.6 dxkpd as my baseband? thanks.
Sorry for the long thread but please read and help me !
Sorry moderators i tried looking for my post didnt find where you placed it. so making a new and clear where i'll tell what i ve done to my tablet.
firstly my p1000 was froyo 2.2 and i didnt checked that and tried to upgrade it to jelly bean, that was the first stupidity of my.
while doing that i faced many problems and concluded that it was brick.
how ever i had rooted my phone with super one click root..
later when it was bricked i again rooted it with cwm recovery by help of cmd.
then it was more complex, i then tried to roll it back and installed the firmware but the firmware i installed was wrong region again it went more complex.
then from some thread, i again used odin and pit it and installed some other firmware. that didnt work so i did something with heimdall suite as it was instructed and mess something with zImage thing.. all failed.
now i ve finally came up with no solution and thinking what the mess i ve done.
please help me.
now odin dont recognize the phone.
the phone is booting till the samsung welcome screen i can also listen the sound.
it also goes to cwm recovery screen and also goes to downloading screen.
please tell me a way so that it can go to normal i am happy with 2.2 froyo only.
tell me a way, please give me download links so that i dont mess it again.
remember odin not accepting it, i ve charged the phone fully and also installed the samsung usb drivers but its not helping..

have tried flashing modem.bin and also tried copy and paste in vendor folder.
but its not working searching all over the forum but i dont know what to do

Where did you get the modem.bin from and which network you belong to.
I recommend starting by looking at gb stock safe, when you unpack there are a few modem.bin
Start with JPZ modem and stick it in /radio/ if latest cm10
Or to /system/vendor for slightly older one.

in gb stock safe, it was jpz modem file.. which i used to flash and it was flashed very well and there was no problem in anything.
later on when i upgraded for 4.1.1 it was also installed normally with no problem the only problem i encountered is i cant make any calls from it.
even the imei number is changed of my phone.
i also sticked the file in system/vendor .. i tried with the both file the jpz which i had from gb stock file and another from the firmware.
well now i trying to go for the latest cyanogen 4.1.1 hope everything get normal in it, and try to stick file in radio.
can you tell me particularly which file to copy and where ?
in gb stock jpz worked fine.. should i go for it ?
yes the same jpz modem.bin file into /radio/modem.bin
the one in the CM10 might be corrupted, who knows.

OK, zimage is in boot.IMG , Google how to extract. The other stuff i don't know why you want to mess with that stuff, especially the boot loaders, those can get a hard brick. If you are just trying to compile a ROM, go to exhibit cm9 jocala thread and scroll to building instructions. Those are way out of date, but you can figure stuff out from there. github.com/arco is good, so is github.com/camcory, find files change them, whatever

So i swapped this phone for my HTC One with a buddy of mine, and he had this 4.2.2 rom installed on it. He kind of told me what i needed in order to flash a rom. He said I need TFT and the rom file.
Well last night he was able to help me install TWRP recover with an XDA app that is floating around, he then told me that I can simply flash a locked bootloader from there, no Gapps or anything else needed.
So I did that, but now my wifi is not working and my Google account is not syncing, and I have no option to have it synced. So i asked the rom thread and was told that now i need to flash a certain kernel in order for my wifi to work again.
Coming from a regular flash and ready phone this seems like a headache to do each time i flash a rom. Last night i had made up my mind that i was going back to the HTC or possibly the S4. But now this phone is growing on me, i actually am starting to like it a lot!
My question is this, is there any rom out there that i can flash that will have everything working out of the box or do i ALWAYS need this TFt tool thing in order for my phone to work properly?
Please dont flame me and reply only if you can help me.
First, your friend might has done something wrong with your phone, although the TWRP seems working fine.
Second, figure out what your friend has done, in detail. So you know exactly the steps.
Third, look for a thread titled like "Xperia Z resources thread ... " learn everything from it so you can get basic knowledge about your XZ. Then analyze your problem based on the information of what your friend has done to your phone. In this step, you should have figured out what's wrong quickly and do something about it.
Answer for your question : flash stock firmware. Look for. 244 ftf file. Stock firmware always have everything working.

Thanks for the quick reply bro, can I flash this through TWRP or what do you recommend? I know that TWRP is working properly, but from what I reading i will always need some tft file ...I just want my phone to work like it should. Is there a ROM that you recommend? I am currently on monxDified.
I recommend a clean flash using flashtool and then flash your desired ROM. Monxdified is quite awesome. To get rid of all your problems, I recommend a clean install of your favorite ROM and kernel. Are you willing to do that? Because it will take some time to finish.

Yes I am willing to, so download the rom zip, and .244 kernel and flash the rom first then the kernel through tft correct?
By the way where can I get that kernel? I have been looking for it...
Hi, I suggest you read this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=38122227, then you'll be able to choose any ROM you like.

Thanks bud i read throuhg this now and located what I needed...kinda. I am told that I need kernel 244, and that i need tft to do this, yet in this guid it indicates that I can use recovery method to flash a kernel..
CUSTOM KERNELS ARE SPECIFIC TO ROMs...
you cant use stock kernel on CM ROM and you cant use CM kernel on stock ROM....
there are two ways to flash custom kernel
first download the kernel file... if it is a boot.img then use Method 1 (fastboot mode) or if its a update.zip file then use Method 2 (recovery)
See how this is confusing .....so is there such a thing as a 244 kernel zip file?

Hi.
First of all it's an .ftf file you need not TFT, and did he say the bootloader is unlocked or that you can do it if you want? You can flash certain ROMs on a locked bootloader but not all, so I would clarify if it is or it isn't. Flash a full stock ftf for now and go from there, it will be better off in the long run.
