Most stable captivate ICS ROM+ kernel? - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

what's up my captivate brethren! Looking for the most stable ICS ROM + kernel for my gf's captivate.
she's not much of a power user, but does like to play words with friends. She keeps data turned off when she's not using it, so battery life shouldn't be much of an issue.
Thanks in advance y'all!

Best is what works for her. Try them out. Stick with CM9 if you want stability and updates to problems quickly. AOKP for features. And others for different looks.

Slim ICS is probably the most bare bones version you will find.

What kernel's got good gps? I've got a vibrant, which is known for shoddy gps, but the devil kernel is working great! How's the captivate version of devil running for y'all?

Very good with Devil .72 , GPS is FAST!
CM9 (6-12) with devil (.72) is a nice combo

[Q] which is more reccomended?

galnet miui or cm7 and why?
me also wishing to have answer for that
If you like stock Android, choose CM7 and if you like iOS, you should choose MIUI. I prefer CM7.

Which is faster and better not about the looks
Both are pretty fast.
but which is faster?
You can't compare it like this. MIUI is based on CM7. Just try both and them you can decide which ROM to take. I had MIUI for one day but then I switched back to CM7 cause I don't like iOS-looking. And CM7 is very close to stock Android and I just love it.

I've only tried miui myself, but I'm pretty happy with it so far.
I tried but i cant find any differences
Try both of them few days and pick the one you like. I prefer cm7.

If you can't find any differences on speed then it's up to you whether you want the stock android or iOS style.
its a matter of choice.. i would recomend trying both n deciding for yourself..
i personally recomend galnet miui.. using it over a few months...
i tried them both and i definitely goes with galenet miui
it's easy... miui is an improvement of cm7. and when you have a great support
by the dvelopment himself, and this is a man that can release a new verision
every 5h because little something was wrong, there is no doubt.
But I have to say that the support with CM7 isn't bad, it's quite good. atinm helps you in the CM7 Q&A-thread to solve your problems.

What is The best rom to use

I am getting a bit peed off with my stock froyo tab it random reboots and doesn't turn on properly at times I have the p1000 uk GSM not wifi only I dont mind what I run asking as it is fast as hell, I have a nexus s so its a bit mad switching from devices at times.
Thanks xda

Take the Overcome expiriance. It feels very fast and smooth. Everything works without any issues and the community support (if you need it) is great. At the moment Alterbridge does not stop his developing (next version of his rom is in the oven) so we will get more and more performance.
PS: for a nexus S look you can flash the GreengerBlack theme.
(I know, I know......)
I came from overcome to dip7's rom and I can tell you that it is faster but it's closer to stock. Overcome has icons that look cool for some people but i like dip7's rom better.

Cool thanks for the replys guys quick question if I was to flash it is there anything or any builds for the uk model as there is so many different types of tab models. I don't want a brick
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
If you make your choise for overcome, the installation will be easy as sleep. You just have to follow the guide on "teamovercome.net". The Rom is made for GSM Tabs like yours. It's allmost impossible to brick the Tab.

I can give you instructions to install dip7's rom if you want cos I have a UK tab too. I can tell you how to install overcome too.

For both roms you must flash stock gingerbread. Here is the guide I used cos i was a bigger noob then:

The honeycomb rom by spacemoose1 is not complete yet. The last build he released was about 3 months ago. I tested it and it was laggy and many things were broken. I recommend gingerbread for now until spacemoose1 gets onto a better stage of his build.

I really appreciate all the replys, ever since I got my nexus s I joined this site and I've never known a community to be so helpfull. I will go with the overcome, I watched the YouTube video of honeycomb it doesn't have the acceleration looks good but I'd rather have the "smooth as butter flash" I will hopefully flash before or after work tonight and will report back

Overcome or CM7 ?
I can see that overcome is pretty popular. I dont hear anybody touting CM7; I've got CM7 running on an HTC Desire HD and an LG Optimus One, and I'm pretty happy with it -- much better that the stock ROM, and on the O1, probably the nicest ROM out there. I'm just wondering a bit how much better worse it is compared to Overcome ?
I used to like cm7 but it is buggy as he'll Evan the last release was on my nexus s id have times where my screen would look like a burnt in screen animation, I would have to reboot all the time best roms i've used on my nexus is stock and miui only problem with miui us is the keyboard vibration don't work

Guys,
I just got a T-Mobile version of TAB,
I'd like to flash to Gingerbread, or a rom which supports Gtalk video and Skype,
What are some of your suggestions?
Thank you
Overcome supports it I think I'd start with that if you can get overcome

Definitely what you want. I've been an Overcome fan for a while now, been very happy with it.
I use Overcome since version 2.0.0 RC1. In my opinion it is the best ROM for the Gtab 7". It is fast, does not have too much bugs and the support by Team Overcome is very good. The development of the ROM is fast and continually.
Not to forget the very good installation instruction and the Change Log for every new version of the ROM.

so is there a stable ICS rom for SGS?

guys I have not been following the mobile scene for nearly four months now. Just want to find out if there are stable releases of ICS for i9000? Not interested in Alpha, Beta builds.
Thanks.
Team ICSSGS
try this one - runs flawless!!!
Doc's Master ICS V5
Milestone 4 of aokp is in my opinion the most stable ICS build.
Great... three replys, three different recommendations.
To be honest none of the ICS roms are perfectly stable yet. They are not like the GB roms stability wise.. Ill give it another 2-4 month before they fix most of the buggs.

Almost three weeks with ICSSGS and Semaphore and I've had exactly one random reboot. It's not perfect but it's pretty close. I also OC a bit so that could be to blame.
Definitely Dark Knight 3. Ive had no issues whatsoever, its the latest 4.0.4, and has awesome battery life

a good and stable rom is dark knight v3
- some little bugs but works good
and good life batery and speed
thanks guys for your replies. It seems to me that ICS for i9000 is still at premature age. I will come back in four months time to see if I should flash ICS onto my i9000.
in the meantime, those already have ICS on their i9000 have fun.
peace out.

He said not interesting in Alpha and beta build, but all the ICS rom out there on XDA are alpha and beta build. If you want a stable ICS, request Samsung build for you one. ) just kidding

last i read, speedmod is not fully geared for daily, so how to compare?

Today I have tested both (on LPY German firmware).
All in all, at the moment I prefer Speedmod, which looks smoother.
In the morning I have used Franco kernel, but two times it happened that my device got slower and slower until rebooted. I had also several lags.
In the afternoon I installed Speedmod, when I saw there was a second version (which includes CWM). No lags, no slowdowns so far.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
On the 2 latest kernels, l get higher scores in antutu and quadrant using franco kernel.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
Have used speedmod and franco on stock lpf for me franco broke my wifi connection there's a workaround for this which is to se your phone is statically and not via dhcp
On speedmod my wifi works though haven't tested the latest one
I then decided just to go back to stock
Both sort of claim to had fix the brick bug issue thought they do say they need more evidence that is fix. But as of now there has been only one brick on franco but further analysis is needed to confirm
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2
Both are good
atm using franco's kernel. its smooth and no problems at all.
Im on kingdroid v2 using apex launcher
I am using Franco right now, seems responsive
But there's no overclock capability in the voltage control app.
Anyone has luck playing with the oc uv
comparing benchmark tests scores, franco kernel wins, but comparing reality score speedmod kernel wins for sure. I get low score with speedmod kernel but it is the most smoothest, bug-free ics kernel so far. Dont look at those benchmark test ^^

Basically, you're asking the users out there do you prefer blonde or dark hair girl?
one man's meat maybe another man's poison. You gotta try it on you own to feel it.
what about this kernel under LFP?
Speedmod on stockrom. Read to many issues with Francos for now. For the rest, like comment above its a matter of preference

Both are good, however Speedmod is slightly better with LPF. (IMHO) Franco has more bells and whistles, but Speedmod seems to be a little more stable based on the apps that I have and my usage patterns. My advise is to try both, but please follow the installation process to the letter. A few times I've done what I thought was best with flashing kernels, but actually ended up wiping/re-flashing etc and then following the instructions to the letter with success.
Latest... Tried Franco #4.... Now as good as Speedmod, if not better.
Been on franco for a few days now ... everything is smooth so far.
It seems like speedmod is alot smoother than franco, even though Franco scores higher in benchmark tests.

CRT-Off effect

i love this feature. ever since my 1st android which was a samsung vibrant, i craved for this feature. beautiful and simple piece of eye candy.
then i moved to n7000 and used roms carrying this feature. from gingerbread to ICS.
how come lately it doesn't work so well as before ? on most JB TW roms, it tends to .....work sometimes....not work most of the times......and when it works it switches on by itself again with some glitches. and some even had wifi only but like i said, it works when it feels like it.
is it kernel related ? got a note 2 running criskelo's rom and boy is it lovely to have it. Had multiple kernels on the note 2 from stock modified from criskelo to perseus. All of them had crt-off effect feature present in the kernel. so i was thinking, is it kernel related ?
How come the crt-off doesn't work so well with n7000 ?
Works well (every time) on CM10.1.
