[Q] Can anyone get me a Nookie Froyo image or similar? - Nook Color General

I found a guide on NookDevs about Nookie Froyo, a FroYo install that runs from the SD card. The guide gives this link as the location:
edencomputing . com/nookcolor/nookie-froyo-SDIMAGE_2GB-0.6.8.img.gz
but that link's broken. Can anyone find me a Nookie Froyo image, or similar image i can burn to an SD and get an android environment? I tried honeycomb but it was ~laggy~.

Why are you trying to use this old stuff? The new CM's are very mature and operate smoothly.

Why bother with Froyo(Android 2.2)? Just follow the directions to install CyanogenMod 7(Android 2.3) that are on NookDev. It's much more mature, has more features, and is specifically designed for the Nook Color(tablet controls, bottom notifications, ect...).

If you're still interested, there's a dual-boot guide somewhere in the development section and it contains a secondary-boot emmc flash-able zip of nookie froyo 0.6.8.
But as the others have said, cm7 is a way better choice. And if it's the froyo look your after, there's a cm7 theme called "retrodroid" that looks exactly like stock cm6.

[Q] Nookie Froyo SD Dual-boot Procedure

I was going to try dual-booting nookie-froyo using the instructions below. There was a .zip to download that created a bootable partition on the sd card from clockwork. I flashed that and the dual-boot was installed successfully. However, their download link for nookie froyo was labeled "remove-dualboot." Obviously not the nookie ROM.
After reading the thread on nookie froyo in the development section, there is no mention of a dual-boot .zip. So now I'm wondering if I can just flash the nookie froyo ROM or if I need to create the image on the sd card, partition, etc.
Website: http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/how-to-dual-boot-nook-color-with-froyo-on-external-memory-card/
EDIT: Follow instruction from this thread (HERE). Booted up fine but I immediately missed stock. Not worth it yet for me. Mods, delete please.

[q] Going from CM7 to NF

So i'm thinking of going to nookie froyo after initially playing around with cm7. it's great but the battery drain is pretty bad.
is there anything i need to do in order to go to nookie froyo (emmc install), or can i just follow the instructions as if i was installing nookie froyo from stock?
Be sure to remember that CM7 uses the EXT4 File extension and nookie froyo uses EXT3. If you are running CM7 off an SDCARD you can just format the SDCard and install nookie froyo on it. Else, you are going to need to re-partition the eMMC to be EXT3 using thecubed's method.

[Q] Gingerbread on SD card?

I have seen all the instructions for putting Gingerbread on the internal memory.
However, I would like to put in on an SD card and boot from that.
I have done this with Froyo and Honeycomb but I don't see files or instructions to allow me to do that with Gingerbread.
1. Is there a Gingerbread image I can burn to an SD card and boot from that?
2. If not, why not, when the other versions have that capability.
there's a gingerbread cm7 sd image in the development forum that I'm using right this second. Works fine for me so far
Can you give me the link to the Gingerbread image you mentioned please

How to get Google Apps (including Market) on HC v4

I have put the HC v4 image on my SD card using the link here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=936995
I would like to have google apps (including market) as well but I don't know how to do this (i'm very new so need detailed instructions).
I have another SD card that has Phiremod and HC dualboot and that DOES have market (found those instructions here)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1045018
I want to have JUST HC on my SD with Market on it.
How do I do this?

Do you mean this little piece right here:
"Update 3/28 : HCv4 2nd Edition SDcard:
http://www.multiupload.com/GJ3YFAP8D1
MD5 - 7d615cda41fe0a17758b0bd64fd2ea99"
Will this be an image file I can simply write to my SD?

Unfortunately no. But if you already have an sdcard wit a rom oñ it with the correct partitions. Just flash my dualboot_cwm_1.0.zip. then follow directions in OP.

thanks for being so speedy!
Unfortunately I get completely lost in your original post. Your Phiremod/HC dualboot instructions were simple enough even for me to understand
Unless its an image file I can write to my SD, i find myself lost.......
No problem though, i will just continue messing about with phiremod and hc.
thanks again for your help

Any ROM that is stable with the Nook Color on SD I and still can be downloaded 2018?

I would like to turn my Nook into a simple android tablet for web surfing etc and have tried to find any coherent install instructions with download links that still work but so far failed. Given how old the Nook hardware is I do not want to spend money on any ready made image.
I do not care so much what flavor of ROM to use as long as Web browser, Youtube and the Android marketplace works so I can install some basic apps.
Anybody that can point me to a good guide?

In search of the same thing. I've got the BNRV200A what about yourself?
Same boat here.
Found out factory reset. Power on, let go and (almost?) immediately hold power and "n" for about 6 seconds like I had read elsewhere.
I end up letting them go before the "read anywhere" text disappears.

All CyanogenMod seems to be down, in favor of LineageOS?
Not sure if I need ClockworkModRecovery (CWMR) depending on which OS I want.
I see Froyo mentioned a lot, but not sure if those sources are old as well.
That being the android version 2.2 that matches what the Barnes & Noble OS is built on top of.
Found a good guide, old or not, that goes through those and ideas. I'll probably stick to SD card installation when possible and not the eMMC route.

It seems to get anything started we need adb access to install CWMR in order to install other OSes, and for that, one would need the Windows drivers for the Nook Color: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=882751
So I am out of luck for Macs. adb root responds "Error: no devices found".
After a successful adb, some commands: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1078855
If I get that working, I would continue with the Rec images form the instructions in the CM13 thread, and somehow with LineageOS files. The CyanogenMod (CM) file seems easier to picture without having completed the process yet, as that is simply an image file to write directly to the SD card.
I guess LineageOS would install from zip which I'm guessing is what I need CWMR
A nice vanilla ASOP / Android install might be recommended as well, as that seems to already be ready into a format for burning directly to the SD card, and for the Nook Color to boot off of without any internal modifications or previous PC preparations: https://www.lifewire.com/turn-nook-color-to-android-tablet-2740672

Why not just post a link here. I've been trying to find everything needed.
I'm looking for CM10 or 11 + the appropriate Gapps. anyone have any luck finding links that aren't dead?
I would really like any information on this as well. I have an early ROM on my Nook Color already, but I think it's an eMMC.

What I used, back in 2016...
I've got a NookColor and had successfully rooted the NookColor (Encore) with CM. I haven't really touched it since then, but I wanted to see if I could use it for anything else, or get a small OS on it to use it as a Calendar, Weather and such, or see about using the screen with a Raspberry PI 3b or a MiSTer and such for any other projects.
Here's a link to what I used, I don't remember the process (If I can find the links, I'll post them). However, here are files I have and used.

Heres a link to the encore cyanogenmod page on web archives.

and acclaim if you have a nook tablet
https://web.archive.org/web/20161224225308/https://download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=acclaim
BUT! i would not suggest flashing gapps as it basically makes it unusably slow, use apkpure or micro g. i would also suggest enabling stage fright video in the build.prop, less battery drain on youtube/youtube vanced.
Did anyone get this working? I have the BNRV200A running Nook 1.4.3 OS. I haven't found a way to get the SD Card to boot to recovery to install CM. All the CWM .img files don't get it to boot to recovery, only to the normal Nook OS.

Yes I am running kitkat right now.
Bnrv200a? I'm not 100% sure if that's a different model or just a typo, but the nook color eyeballer sd image is here,
SD: http://tinyw.in/0Vw
Emmc: https://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=2746421&d=1400215845
And the nook tablet here,
SD: (little bit more complicated than the nook color) https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1466583
Emmc: http://www.mediafire.com/download/0f5fjkjvxp1hga0/flashable_CWM_6.0.4.5(2).zip
Make sure to flash the eyeballer image with win32diskimager.
Then here is a link (windows) that will show you how to restore the SD card to its original state after flashing the eyeballer image with win32diskimager

Yes, BNRV200A. It's a Nook Color. I tried the 1 gb eyeballer and can't get it to recovery boot. Not sure if I tried the Emmc, but I think so. Will look at when I get home. Using a 16 gb SanDisk sd. Thanks so much.

Oh, it is the BNRV200A, I thought it was just Bnrv200 :silly: I'm not sure why its not working, what speed is it? I was using a class 10. And after you flash the image the computer should that the SD card is smaller than it really is. And you flash the Emmc after you boot into the clockworkmod SD image, it installs on the internal storage.
Edit: sorry, it's been forever since I rooted my nook. The first install you are supposed to flash this, https://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=2787369&d=1402239353, to the SD card, and put any roms or gapps on the same SD card, the image on the SD card will automatically flash whichever cm rom you put on the SD card plus gapps if you put them on there, which I do not recommend, because it shows down the device a lot

So I tried flashing this and the eyeballer 1gb and neither would boot into recovery or install anything. Just boots to Nook OS again. Were you using Nook OS 1.4.3 when you did the flash/installs?
SD card is actually 16 gb, class 2, Samsung. Only thing that has booted into recovery was the img/zip here, but it was not for Nook Color, and the size limit after flash was 90 mb.

So yea, apparently I'm a complete idiot and have a Nook Tablet not a Nook Color after all. Well, there goes 15+ hours of my life I will never get back :highfive:
