I've read through multiple threads but have not found the answer I'm seeking so I'll ask here.
Does anyone know of a good source of help for MPLW? I've emailed the developer twice and have yet to receive a response. A user guide would be great but I'm rescinded to the fact that there doesn't appear to be one.
What I'm looking for specifically is how do I create folders to put the wallpapers I want used into and how do I then direct the app as to what folder to use for each home screen? Frankly I'm finding the app to not be terribly user friendly unless your moderately android savvy I suppose. Finding the settings wasn't very straight forward and even once I was in the settings there are things, like pointing at specific folders, that I just can't find.
Is it me or is this app not supported very much by the developer?
As always, any help will be greatly appreciated.
I made a video

Okay, so thanks to some members for helping me find this homescreen replacement. However, I have searched for hours looking for some kind of mod for this thing, and I haven't found a one. Is it not possible to manually tweak settings like color, for instance? I can't believe this UI isn't as hyped as I find it to be.
So, can we get some devs on this to give us some tweaks and start a thread?
I know what you mean. I just d.l.'d it and really like the design/idea of it all. Right now it is very limited to what you can tweak. If you go to thier website and check out the forum over there, alot of people are giving thier ideas of what they would like to see done to this app. Hopefully the dev's are listening....

Yeah, but I think the requests are falling on deaf ears. Multiple people are saying over in their forums are saying they are simply doing compatibility updates now. I thought some Devs here at XDA could take matters into their own hands. But I just don't think there are enough people interested in it, you know? At the time of this post, 395 views of this thread and only one reply. Supply and demand, we need more people to speak up!
Very true. I'm gonna hang on to the free version for a while and see what happens. Time will tell.
I stick using this for a long time. a bit sad I couldn't "beautify" my home like others do. but in my opinion the standards color scheme are the best there is. and don't you think modding it (like adding a shortcut to one page of widget screen or a dash of power control which I really want as an upgrade) is the same as altering the whole program? is that against licencing problem? I'm quite a noob in this area...

I have no idea. It seem's that it would be, but then again, people are porting SENSE over to non-HTC devices as well, so who knows? I don't know if the free version is open source or not.
Can all developers please share some information regarding job interviews?
I would like to know how to improve myself in a interview for development and how to improve my answers in order to make myself more appealing.
Here are some questions that i've been asked and would like to know how to improve the answers too:
1) When you need help with coding, what do you do? - what sites do you use? - How do you approach a solution?
2) When do you approach you senior developer?
3) How do you keep up to date ?
4) Give me an example of when you solved a difficult problem using PHP (or whataever language)
Basically many examples need to be given, not sure how to answer them.
There are other questions that I'll ask when they come to mind.
I need some input guys!! or at least guide me in the right direction please

If I do go for a site, I first use Google and anything relevant to what I'm already trying to do to solve the problem. If Google doesn't help, or the answers are too vague and I need something more specific then there's no better help out there than StackOverflow. If you don't know it, get to know it
Also, see the next question.

In the above scenario, after you've tried for yourself for a while at least. A senior dev will get narked if you keep hassling them without at least trying to help yourself!

Learn to prioritise. There's nothing really more to say about that as it's a personal experience thing. Make sure you keep notes of every task you need to do and mark it done when it's done, no matter how trivial it seems. You get better at it the more you do it.

This is obviously a very personal question that no-one can answer for you. I'm not gonna tell you about any projects I've worked on and had to deal with problems because there's no point. If you give it as an example they'll only ask you to expand on it and you won't be able to. Besides, it's all well and good trying to impress, but don't out-and-out lie at an interview. Basically, they just want to know that you *can* solve problems. Tell them something where you learnt something that you were able to use again - it shows a willingness to learn, the ability to understand there are things you need to learn, and that you can grow from such a situation.
Other than that, be confident and remember that they've got you in for an interview because they're already interested. Also, it's not a 1-way street. They might be arseholes that you'd never work for. The interview is as much for you as it is for them.
Not sure if any of that has been any help, but they're my honest answers anyway.
Good luck, and let us know how you get on

This was indeed my exact answer! For some reason that is seen as a 'junior' solution believe it or not! I'm so pissed cause that is what people do...even seniors.

The question was more regarding, how do you keep up to date with software/tech basically. For example Wordpress has been updated. How did you know about it etc.
There is a new CMS system, how do you find out about it? etc.

I did try answer this question as you stated, it is hard though cause there was like 12 of them, giving constant examples was a PITA. I deal with it every day yet I found it awkward to sit there and tell a stranger all about it and that I am capable of handling it....

In that case, tech blogs with RSS feeds. I use iGoogle as my home page both at home and at work and it has different feeds on there for different bits of tech (web development, windows development, mobile development etc..)
Also, I think confidence is best when it's natural. If you've not got it yet then just keep getting better at what you're doing and you'll eventually get it. I've been doing it a long time now so only get a slight flutter of nerves at interviews. It's normally just a case of answering questions honestly and asking a couple of good ones back and I get the job. There's a lot of people out there doing development work, but not that many that have stuck it out and got actually good at it. Stick at it and you'll become a valuable commodity!

Thanks, what sort of feeds are you subscribed too?
I think I need to do something like this. Also, is it productive for developers to be on G+? Is there a benefit?
You know the answer to the question about solving a problem was to go to the original source, like wordpress has their own codex/reference site. Php has theirs, jQuery and all that. I use those site but didn't even consider stating it in the interview.

I plan to stick at it, since its putting food in my plate but I need to get better since like yesterday! Its been my life since January, really focusing on it but now trying to get a balance in my life back again.
Do you have any advice or pointers that you'd like to share from your experience please?
Thanks for your time Archer
Here's a list of the feeds I have on the "development" tab of my home page...
MSDN .Net Blog
Android Developers Blog
Visual C# News
Windows Phone Developers Blog
jQuery Blog
Just have a search for blogs that are relevant to your interests and most of them will either work as an RSS feed direct, or will have an RSS or Atom link, both of which are perfect for iGoogle (or other RSS readers).
I do use G+, but not in a professional capacity at all. To be honest though, I don't use any social networks for anything professional. I probably would if I had my own business and needed to market myself, but I don't so it's just not relevant.
As for pointers, the only thing I can really say is that when someone presents you with a challenge, look at it as an opportunity to enhance your knowledge and skill-set. I've seen many programmers respond with "Yeah, you can't do it like that. We'll do it like this instead." That's bull. There's virtually nothing you can't make your computer or website do, with just some imagination and perseverance. And it goes without saying, the more you enjoy it the better you're likely to be at it.
So what field are you going into? You said you've been doing it since January, but I expect you've been doing it a lot longer than that. Is this your first time developing as a career?

I know - I saw it this morning when I opened my browser and immediately thought about this thread lol.
I'm gutted as it's the perfect home page for my needs. All their advice about getting weather widgets and looking on the Play Store for replacements has got nothing to do with having an RSS reader home page.
Thanks for the extra links - I'll have a look through them.
I have quite a few questions. First, I know the device has been successfully rooted, but I'm not entirely sure what the means for us users. Have any impressive mods or hacks been released for the ChomeCast yet? Also, is it possible to stream from PC to my ChomeCast? And lastly, how does this affect battery life when streaming from an Android device?
You can stream Netflix, YouTube and chrome tabs to your device from your pc.
From an Android phone you can stream YouTube, Netflix and Hulu atm
It doesn't affect battery life at all, other than using the app since the chromecast is not actually receiving any data from the phone but from a server (Netflix, YouTube, Hulu) . Your phone only sends a link to the chromecast.

Have you looked at any reviews? Done any reading/research? Those are very basic questions, that could easily be found with minimal effort. This helps keep the forum from getting cluttered and the same questions from being asked again and again. The member here are less likely to help if you not putting much effort into finding answers. Just some friendly advice.
I will provide some assistance.
1. If you have a Chromecast with the original Firmware, not likely unless you got one of the early devices and it hasn't updated the firmware, then Yes it can be rooted. Device with newer firmware out of luck, at least for now.
There not much you can really do, even if you had a rooted Chromecast at this point.
2. You can cast YouTube and Netflix form the Chrome browser on your computer. You can also cast a tab form the Chrome browser and any content it may be running. There is also an experimental feature found in the Chrome Browser that will allow you to cast you desktop.
You can also drag and drop compatible media (Music, video) into an empty Chrome browser tab and have it cast to you TV.
3. I doesn't affect battery life on you android device. Your Android device just tells the Chromecast fetch the media from Netflix, YouTube or Hulu Plus and play it on you TV. After the media starts playing you could turn off you device and the Chromecast would continue to play the media.

After having read many reviews and articles on the internet about the capabilities, features and benefits of owning/purchasing a chromecast, I came to the realization that it offered very few, if any, of those things after the "update". Still, I had the same question as the OP and hoped that XDA might further my education on the matter. I assumed based on the date of their post, that the OP was as up to date as I was. So, I eagerly clicked on the thread hoping to find a friendly conversation about any possible progress, hacks, developer apps or current work arounds, but instead was met by what seems to have become the standard retort for anyone that has a simple question on xda. The only question you left out was, "did you even try searching?"
Honestly, I am not trying to be ugly or smart, but it seems like xda is an appropriate place to ask questions when someone has one. While I know that it seems like many are lazy and don't bother searching, reading or educating themselves before starting a thread and wasting precious forum space, sometimes it would be great to find real answers and and friendly responses without assuming the OPs back story. There, I got that off my chest and provided nothing useful to the conversation myself and suppose I am prepared for the backlash, but I'd rather continue my search for answers to my original question. Is there anyone out there making the Chromecast dongle worth buying and in return, accepting donation money from me for their work? OK. Off my soapbox, no offense and sorry for wasting thread space that is better left to developers than greedy users like me.

The very first post in this section is a sticky which contains a section labeled, "Apps, Mods, Fixes, Rooting, Tutorials". It has links to a bunch pertinent threads. There is a reason it's a sticky. XDA would become useless if there where multiple post a day asking about the same subject.
I was being friendly. I informed him that he could easily find the answers he is looking for with a little effort and doing so would keep the forum clean and people would be more helpful. It was obvious they where new (only three post) and I tried to offer some friendly advice that will help them in the long run. I even tweaked my wording as to not be too harsh. then I went the extra mile and answered his questions.
Right on. Any word on the SDK being freed up yet?

Your question is not specific, it's hard to understand what you really want to know. If you don't have programming experience and want this job to be done by someone else, I can make this app for you. All graphic assets must be provided by you.

Hello I need some advice or help on android studio plug in. I actually received an e mail I will just Copy it here :
EMAIL :
Dear Android developer,
We invite you to participate in a research study being conducted at Saarland University in Germany. We found your email address as a professional developer on Google Play.
We have developed FixDroid, an Android Studio plugin to help you learn about different aspects of software security. We're excited to be able to share this with you!
FixDroid helps you to learn more about secure coding. As you write code it finds insecure practices and warns you about them. In some cases it will offer you more secure alternatives as a QuickFix.
FixDroid is, and will remain, free to use and we're delighted if you can use it. In return we'll collect anonymous information about your use of it - but never any of your code or anything to identify you or the code. Please visit https://userstudies.cs.uni-saarland.de/fixdroid/installFixDroid.html to get access to the plugin.
While you try it out, if you've time, please could you possibly participate in a brief scientific study to help us improve FixDroid for you and other users?
Visit https://userstudies.cs.uni-saarland.de/fixdroid/70333f6d4789/468180b5cdf9 for more information or simply reply to this email. We'll be glad to answer any questions. If you don't want to receive emails from us, please visit https://userstudies.cs.uni-saarland.de/fixdroidstudy-bl/new/70333f6d4789/468180b5cdf9 and we will never contact you again.
Our research relies on the generous help of interested developers, so thank you for your help and feedback!

Now has any one else got this? Is this really helpful? I am asking here because I never heard of fixdroid. I know it is an html plug in and if it really is what it is maybe it will help others. I am just a junior developer so any help from a developer is appreciated tnx.

If this is posted in the wrong section I appologize, it's not done intentionally. I'm hoping to find someone to build a very plain app that basically displays a 10 digit code that changes daily. That's pretty much so it. I don't have even the smallest clue as to what something like this would cost so even some feedback of what a fair ballpark price would be is appreciated. Thanks in advance for any help.

There's many apps on the Play Store that accomplishes this but, they have various names to them.
Here's just 2 of them that can do this...
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.saranomy.randomnumber
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.random.randomapp
Developers, like myself, would not likely develop this type of app since there's so many apps that can perform this in various ways but, that's up to you and I do wish you the best of luck with this.
