Screen touch problem - LG Optimus 2x

This just started happening on my phone...there is a portion of the screen (near where the predictive words would appear) where the sensors do not recognize my touch (see below):

In the above screenshot, I scrolled from bottom of the screen all the way to the top, but notice the gap in the middle.
Do you think the sensor is damaged or is it something else? I.e., do youthink it's a hardware issue or a software one ?

I'm guessing you already tried reflashing your/another ROM...
Good luck mate, that looks nasty

It seems the rom/kernel combination I was using wasn't good. It's back to normal with a different kernel.
CORRECTION:
No, it's not back to normal. Now I'm fairly convinced that it's a hardware problem. I don't know why or how, but the problem is back.
Maybe the touch sensor is sometimes working and sometimes not. It's strange though that it's always only at that section and no where else. Maybe the problem is only localized to that particular area.

At the worst case it might be your digitizer.
Revert back to stock through nvflash and test it again. If the issue is still present and its till under warranty, send the bad boy back.
Or alternatively, you can replace the digitizer yourself. Hope all goes well man

Thanks LarsPT & Supupa for your replies and kind wishes.
Unfortunately, it is conclusively a hardware issue since going back to stock or any other rom didn't make things any better.
And I'm out of luck and have no warranty on this (since I got it second hand).
I guess I'll just have to pray that it will last me a few more weeks until the SGS3 comes out here in the States.
Thanks.

You can fix it yourself?
The digitizer is only like $50 not original but it will last for ever. If you do, get one with the frame. It will make life so much easier.
Secondly its quite easy to replace, no soldering just screws and un clipping things.
I did mine myself, very simple. Good luck bud

Thanks for the tip! I'll give that a try.
By the way, I love the Android comment in your signature. So true.

QWERTY Keyboard Not Replaceable *FIXED 4/18*

I followed Tony Chen's guide and it worked nicely to replace everything BUT the QWERTY keyboard. I've read around and people say to follow that to replace the QWERTY keyboard - however if you actually try and do that, theres no actual way to get the keyboard in/out. It seems as if the keyboard is physically bonded with a backplate and the flex-pcb glued underneath.
Has anybody successfully replaced the keyboard? Because it doesn't seem like it since theres no documentation available (both forum or guide) so I'm leading to think this is NOT user replaceable. I called Cellular-Dr and they said they can (I forgot the exact price, I believe it was $50) but I'm stumped on how they actually do that.
Fixed!
Well, after examining the keyboard - I decided to give up hope and gave it to DrCellPhone.com and here are the results (sorry for the poor quality pics, tia)

Everything except the battery? Sounds like a new phone to me Like saying I got my car repaired, everything replaced except the gas (petrol).
By the way did you get more info on rleasing the keyboard?

It is in essence a new phone
The keyboard seems to be specially glued down somehow to a flex-like PCB board. I didn't want to take my chances and try to remove the bonding, I kept poking around but eventually just gave up in fear of ruining another special-order item.
how did you get rid of the att logo, im still figuring how to take mines off.

Slight Crack in Phone. Fix It or No?

So I've done a little research on pricing, found out to have my screen replaced by HTC it's $115. I asked about having an indy shop do it instead but they informed that doing so would void the warranty. How would they know? Apparently the screws in the back have paint on them and they know if the phone has been tampered with.
Anyways, the crack in my screen is about an inch long. It starts on the left right where the bottom of the taskbar is. It then runs up to right under the earphone speaker. The phone works just fine and you can barley see the crack.
My question, is it dangerous to the phone to not have it repaired? The crack can't "run" any more, so I can't quite make up my mind. Let me know what you all think.
Thanks.

Anyway is this supposed to be in the right forum? Still I'd say fix it. I personally can't stand my screen to have a scratch.
If it's a scratch, meh
If it's an actual crack, 100% DEFINITELY replace it. Your entire screen's strength has been compromised. Who knows when the next pressure put on it in the wrong place or accidental drop could cause the whole screen to crack since it is weaker now.
I would go for the replacement.
Replacement screens/glass on ebay yet?
Don't get it fixed unless it becomes unusable or unless it bothers you. If it doesn't bother you then why spend $115 to fix it. Fix it when it actual causes problems using it and by the time that happens the price to fix it might drop.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
If the crack runs from one side to another, then your glass is already in two pieces. The touch digitizer is the only thing holding it together. The worst that can happen is you push in the screen and the glass cuts through the digitizer and scratches the OLED underneath. That being said, I've seen a number of people use iPhones with cracked screens for months without any trouble and I've never seen the digitizer give way.
I agree with KingLouis3: Use it 'til it annoys you or breaks.
Thanks for the responses. Pokey, I think my concerns were along the lines of what you said with the OLEDs. It is somewhat difficult to explain where the location sorry some of you are grammar professors apparently.
Either way, I do I'll end up just holding up to get it worked on for the time being. I'll see how long it goes until any issues arise. Here's a picture by the way, see if you can see what I'm talking about here.

Rule #1. Don't ever give your phone to a pissed off person... exhibit A attached.
Instead of replacing it with a new Captivate I went with the HTC Aria.. maybe not the best choice, but I think it will do the trick. I like the size, and GPS actually works out of the box. I plan on frequenting the XDA Aria section.
I'll prob try to sell my busted up Captivate on eBay, for anyone that might have bricked their own phone. Other than the screen the phone seems to work without issue.

Edit for helpful-ish answer: Hope you were paying for the insurance =/ I don't know where you'd go about getting replacement glass, and standard manufacturer's warranty won't cover physical abuse like that

Hey, I am worried about my camera quality. Can someone please check my sample pictures and tell if my camera is broken. It has been taking pictures like this since I bought it. All settings have been on auto or default.

It's like camera is not having a focus point or something?
Thanks!
Somethings out of wack here. Some piece of the pictures, like the leaves on the forest floor, and the arched concrete you were sitting on in front of that palace, are very detailed, yet, the backgroud is all fuzzy. I dont know whats wrong, but i dont think thats normal. Maybe someone else who knows more than me on the camera will post and help out.

Thanks for your anwser, I also think something is wrong. Any other opinions?
Take some pictures horizontally and with far distance.... If it's blurry(my was on the right side), it's camera hardware problem.... I had same issue, I was looking around on xda and found out it's broken ... I sent it back to HTC for repair, and they havent found any issue, so I have called insurance instead and they did swap ... It's fine now

Yes, but it is blurry already in the middle, taken from far, or close - the girl picture. Okay it is vertically taken but still. I'm thinking of going to my operator and letting them send it to warranty, I was just trying to see if there really is some problem, because all this warranty thing takes time and if they say it is working properly then all this time would be just for no reason.

In my opinion it does look that something is very wrong with it.
I have taken more than 500 pictures with my phone and just some taken with almost no ligh have some fuzziness like yours.
The ones with good light or moderate light are excelent. Even 90% of the ones I took at near no light are better than yours.
Let me show you some random pictures I have taken so you can compare.
These are not even messed with settings like sharpen -1 or anything else, just plain settings.
The second picture was taken with almost no light at all (seriously, the image is nothing like I could see with my eyes, way brighter in the phone).
I would take to a store and complain about it if I were you.
Thanks for your feedback, I will take it back and let them send it to warranty. Now I need to make it stock again

[Resolved] Purple colored lines on screen

A coworker of mine has this issue with their phone. (Please see screenshot). I'm able to connect it through ADB and its drivers and everything are running properly. I'm just not sure how to fix the screen defect, as I can't even see what's on the screen itself. She said it was in her pocket, and she then pulled it out to make a call, and the screen was like that. Its running cm10.1 with the speedmod-kernel. Has anyone seen anything like this, and what's the best way to fix it? Thx in advance for the help!

This kind of messy screen is usually associated with wrong bootloaders, but in this case I believe it's a hardware problem.

I initially thought it was bootloader related, but when I flashed CM10.1 to it, I made sure that it was the right one. I think it's hardware related myself, but didn't wanna rule out a software fix, if there is one lurking somewhere beyond my mental capacities.

Saw something similar in the at&t gs3 forums but it was a blue line and it was vertical not horizontal. flash back to stock and see if that resolves the issue. If that doesn't resolve the problem then its obviously hardware issue.

Well after fiddling with software, I've concluded that the hardware is the culprit. After asking my coworker if she'd dropped the device, she said yes, but didn't think it fell that far or that hard. Thx for everyone's help/input!
Mods pls close thread. Thx!
