From a ICS custom rom and custom kernel, how to flash another custom rom and another kernel. Thanks.
Too vague of a question. We need to know what current ROM you are on and what you want to go to?
Custom roms means it could be kingdroid or rocket rom or panaroid (in this case kingdroid 2.0) and custom kernel means franco or speedmod (in this case, speedmod)

I know what custom ROM and kernel means. I just wanted to know what you were on. Okay, answered my question. You are speedmod which is safe. So you can flash another ICS rom and wipe data, cache, and dalvik in CWM and be okay. If you flash a STOCK ICS rom, make sure you don't wipe data if you are on a stock kernel too. Most of the TouchWiz ICS roms now use a safe kernel.
Thanks for being polite and answered.

Currently I'm using DXLP9 firmware, stock ROM and stock kernel, but with root. I wanted to flash SpeedMod kernel, but it is stated that it is a test release, so I'm not convinced enough to flash it, and I don't know whether it will work with my ROM or not.
Does flashing custom kernels lead to data wipe?

Flashing kernels doesn't wipe anything from your phone.
I'd flash the new CF--Root LP9 kerenel if I were you.
Chainfire thinks he has disabled the bricking bug in his new CWMR.
However, your phone, your risk, your decision.
What's the difference between the CF kernel and stock kernel? If I'm not wrong, CF kernel only adds root and CWM, but the rest are the same as stock kernel.
franco.Kernel 3.0.15 r4
will the cf kernel have issues if I root my current kernel with su busybox? thanks will e flashing with MOP

You'll have stock ICS with no root.
I'm now on with Criskelo Rom V7 + golden theme. Kernel is 3.0.15-N7000XXLQ3. My questions are 1) Is it safe kernel.2)Can I just flash kernel speedmod#3.3 over this.3) Without flashing Speedmod kernel, can I install another rom (CM9 or Alliance or Rocket RomV7.4) or should I go back to Stock GB and proceed to custom roms as I was doing previously? Assistance appriciated.

I just flash abyss then flash the rom from abyss recovery without problem so far.
Hey Guys! Just needed a bit of help. Is it safe to flash a gn cf root kernel on stock or custom ICS rom?? Like, will I be safe from the superbrick bug if I flash a gb kernel over an ICS one? Any Help will be appreciated! Thanx in advance!
P.S I am sorry if the question is asked before..
its hit and miss really, Some users report that CF root kernel is safe, others say its not.
One kernel confirmed to be safe is Abyss
They have one for GB and one for ICS

So if I flash Abyss Note kernel, I am safe from the superbrick bug? But won't the device be already damaged if I flash stock ICS? And also if I use factory reset from recovery or other superbrick commands, will my device get damaged? Sorry for the Q's!
If you flash an Abyss GB kernel for stock ICS (or ICS at all) it won't boot (or give a lot of errors IF it does).
Just use Speedmod or Franco kernels for stock ICS. They are safe.

You are never completely safe from the superbrick, But with abyss, and as said above speedmod (what i use) the command that causes the brick is disabled, So providing you only ever do a full wipe on a KNOWN SAFE KERNEL you will be fine.
There are a few safe kernels now, Im unsure of them all as ive only ever used speedmod & abyss, Feel free to use another one, Just be sure to check if its safe or not.
The bug is in the chip, But the command to trigger the bug is in the ICS kernel, Hence why GB is the ultimate safe option.
Thank you very much guys! I guess that I'll stay on GB till a stable ICS comes out!I really wanted to try the cool mods for ICS! But are you sure that if I use speedmod Wiping or Restoring won't brick my note?
Well no can can confirm 100% that you wont get a brick, Although the chances of that happening on a safe kernel is minimal.
As with all modding you do it at your own risk, I can confirm i have successfully done a full wipe in CWM using both SpeedMod and Abyss kernel, So have 100's of other users too ! So you should be fine
I had doubts at first, So i upgraded to ICS via ODIN without wiping, never had any issues.
Hey...What if I flash a gingerbread cf root kernel on ICS??

Most likely your device will not boot.

Abyss kernel and CM9 ROM
thanks a lot every one.... a lot of info floating around...
but there a re a few questions im not sure about.... i hope if you can help answer them....
1. i checked my GN ICS 4.0.3 rooted stock and it has the chipset known to have emmc bug issue.. so now if I flash using the abyss kernel it should be fine. But do i need to flash it with a ICS ROM only or can I flash it with a pre rooted GB ROM as well?
2. I understand there are two versions of Abyss Kernel. One for ICS and one for GB. Which do i install if i plan to move to GB from ICS official stock? and vice-versa?
3. Is it safe to directly move from rooted stock ICS 4.0.3 to CM9? using Abyss kernel?
4. Just one las thing. When we flash a kernel like Abyss to ensure non bricking, does it mean that the new ROM would use the same kernel (Abyss) ? or would it install its own kernel? For example if i flash Abyss and then flash CM9 ROM, will CM9 use Abyss as the system kernel or will it install its own kernel?
Sorry for asking soo many dumb questions, but i want to get my facts right before i flash.
Thanks in advance.
Just flash abyss kerne if u want flashing any rom with CWMR..

azzle, are you sure there is an abyss kernel for ics too ? everyone says abyss is meant for GB only ? where is the original thread please ?
here you go...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1362424
read all on that thread bud before you do some actions.
Abyss is a gb kernel, it's useful for doing quick flashing under ics as it's already rooted with cwm baked in. But yeah, I you can't run a ics rom under abyss, but you can install abyss, run wipes, then install ics rom and kernel all in one.

Hello,
I would like to install the JB preview coming from Paranoid :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1797698
I am curently on samsung DDLPA ICS ROM, with root, and kernel SpeedMod K3-11.
please, let me know if I say something wrong. I want to be sure I don't make any mistake :
- my kernel is reliable. I can reboot into recoveray, and make some wipe of caches, dalvik cache etc... without having the risk of brick my Note,
because this is not a stock Kernel.
- it is adviced to flash the JB rom starting from a clean GB. but because my kernel is reliable, I could do it directly from my cirrent ROM + Kernel ?
- because JB has it own kernel, I will lose my speedMod Kernel.
please, let me know if what is listed above is right, or not.
using a computer to flash a new ROM will be difficult for few next days. it would be great for me to be able to flash it directly from my Note.
in any case, I wait for feedback before doing anything...
thanks
Olivier
I think you are right but why taking risks
Better flash a prerooted gb then go to jb
I just flash "Crash Rom" under Hydracore Kernel but when I done flashing "Crash Rom" my kernel version become N7000XXLRK-CL811902. Is that safe for me to flash hydracore kernel again under that rom? If i want changing rom i can wipe data through that kernel(N7000XXLRK-CL811902) or better on hydracore?

Crash rom includes CF-Root XXLRK kernel by default (as the latest version is without aroma I guess), that's why Hydracore was replaced by it (N7000XXLRK-CL811902)
CF root kernels are safe to wipe but are not 100% safe to flash roms using cwm, look here. Yes, you can flash Hydracore again.
I suggest flashing HydraCore (former NoteCore) kernel before performing a full wipe / flash.
Flash HydraCore kernel.
Reboot recovery.
Perform a full wipe (manually format /system/, too, if you come from TW and want to flash CM, for example - I've had troubles with that).
Flash your desire ROM.
Also, HydraCore works on all ROMs : TouchWiz, MIUI, CM9, CM10, AOKP, ParanoidAndroid... everything . And HydraCore is the kernel I'd reccomend for general use, anyway .
