Hi. Before my Q here's a background of what happened.
1. I made a backup through CWM of my system.
2. Earlier today i tried flashing primehd ver 8 for stock kernel. Standard procedure. CWM > flashed ROM > full wipe etc...
3. Problem = I got stuck on SE's logo. Ok maybe I messed up. reread the threads and asked some Q's and did the steps on #3.
4. Still the same result.
5. What the heck I'll just go back to GDX
6. Flashed ROM and again standard procedure of wiping etc...
7. Rebooted and everything is ok.
8. Went back to CWM and tried to restore the backup that i made. (same CWM version)
My question is why is it after restoring my backup and restarting my phone, I AGAIN got stuck on SE's logo?
Is there no way to restore my backup?
I did try searching before posting this but unfortunately I couldn't find a thread that could answer my Q...
So help... Thanks!
BTW, it wouldn't hurt if someone told me what mistake i made when I flashed primehd (i intentionally flashed ver 8 NOT 9)
Thanks in advance!
If u made a backup of stock ROM (default SE ROM) and u are on the stock kernel(default SE kernel) then u will get no boothangups if u restore...
the problem is you are wiping after flash the rom,you should do it before. some roms needs after some before check the instructions at the op from the rom you want to install.
now if you are stuck to Sony ericsson logo and you can access cwm do the following
full wipe
wipe dalvik
flash rom
about the back up..are you wiping after restore?

I think you're right. I wiped after i flashed primehd cause that's the instruction for gdx. Maybe that's why.
The instruction in the op is for ver 9 but it has a hotfix for stock kernel you need to flash in addition to the rom so i got confused.
For restoring backup i did both. I tried wiping twice (before backup once after). I also tried restoring without wiping. I even followed a thread and advance restored data, fix permissions.
EDIT: thanks for answering. I've decided to restore manually using titanium backup.
A bit of a hassle but at least i don't need to reflash.

The stock rom is EXT3 so you need to flash BackToEXT3 in recovery and then restore the backup. You can get the zip file from the development forum. From CM7 build 146 onwards they are using EXT4.

You must install the backto Ext3 zip file with CWM, then to be sure perform a factory reset in CWM (reformat /cache and /data), then Wipe Dalvik's cache (in advanced option of CWM), then finally restore your backup using Restore option.

Thanks man, I'm about to do this. This explains my problems
Hi,
I`m new in this forum and I have some questions.
I want to flash the Team ICSSGS RC4.2.
My phone:
Samsung Galaxy I9000
DarkyRom 10.4.2 (Android 2.3.6, Firmware: XWJW1, Modem I9000XXJVU, Kernel: Semaphore_JW1_2.4.0)
I haven't flashed my phone very often, so I want to be sure that everything is correct, because I'm a little bit afraid of damaging my phone:
I have downloaded the zip-file for RC 4.2 an put it on my internal sd-card (I can see it in cwm in the root directory).
Then I have made a backup in cwm of my current rom and of my apps with Titanium Backup.
My questions are:
Can I now boot into Recovery Mode and choose "install zip from sdcard" or do I have to consider something more / different?
Are there other necessary things to do after flashing?
I'm sorry if these questions have been asked bevore (certainly they've been), but I didn't find them in the forum.
Thanks for your help and your responses.
Go to CWM, then do wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache & dalvick cache.
And go !
Thanks for the answer.
One last question to be 100% sure: First reset and wipe and than flash the zip-file from the internal sdcard?
I'm sorry for these questions, but the other times I flashed with odin.

Yes, in this order
yes first wipe data/cache than install.
But it doesn't matter I once forgot to delete and when i installed rom some weird things started to happend(stuck in boot) than went again and delete files/reboot and i was good to go
Thank you very much; I think I will try it this evening or tomorrow.
I will give you a short response in the next days.
Don't forget to disable lagfix before you do anything !!
Happy flashing !

yeah disable lagfix i think.also backup your efs partition. its where your IMEI number and a few other bits are kept.also make a note of your IMEI.
when i flashed rc4.1 over darkyrom v10.4.2 i got a bootloop so i took the battery off and i wiped and flashed again.actually i had posted exactly what happened to me on the thread for ICS RC 4.2 so have a look at my post. Also i had lost my IMEI but no worries since i had taken a (2 actually) backups.

I was flashing RC 4.2 over Darky ROm 10.4.2. At first I had a boot loop, but then I wiped and re-flashed and now it's working.
Unfortunately, same thing happened to me - I lost the IMEI. Thankfully I did a tar.gz backup using terminal emulator.
What should I do at this stage? I mean my mobile's working fine. How do I restore my IMEI? Should I restore my IMEI?
Thanks!
but dont forget about one thing-if you areon Cyanogen based rom,you arent able to restore backup from clockworkmod(backup of samsung-based rom)! you will stuck in bootloop
Recommended this rom?
Check it out this Tutorial
good luck
So, I installed the GingerDX on my X8
It booted successfully
I rebooted my device, and started the CWM
I restored my data from CWM (backup and restore > advanced restore > restore data)
Then when I reboot, it froze at the bootanimation (after the SE logo)
And I have waited it for like 15 min
But still nothing happened
If I do full wipe, it will still work (I've tried already)
But I won't get back my data
SO, is there any way to get back my data from CWM and put it to the GingerDX ....?
The previous backup that you made using cwm was of gingerdx or it was some other rom..
If it was of the other rom then thats the problem.

I had the same problem, I downloaded some app and backuped via it...I can't remember what was the app...check in Google play.....and you will get it

maybe you restore in different kernel
ie : you're on B kernel, but you restore some backup from A kernel..
and you'll get stuck or md5 sum error..
when I got that prob, I just flash my X8 on A kernel and restore it
then flash the new kernel (B) and backup!
then factory reset, etc
Flash ROM
Well the exact same thing happened to me! What I did was boot into recovery , make a system backup, then install your kernel again then rom, then wipe dalvik cache. After that boot. Then after you have set everything up go back to recovery and advance restore only the data from when you couldn't boot, then boot again, I hope this helps!
You have to make a fresh start, that is the only way.eclair backed data doesnt like 2.2+

Full wipe and fresh start, You could also use titanium backup for app +data

If you've flashed a CM7 rom there's no way to restore a stock rom from backup taken through CWM5. The filesystem format is not compatible.
You'll need to flash stock from Odin.
Yeah, flash a stock firmware with Odin and then when you have done, install cwm recovery (because installing a new firmware erases everything so also your cwm recovery that you had) and try to restore your backup.

Wipe everything then re-flash ROM.
Reboot before flashing anything else.
For stock rom, go to download mode (power+home+vol. down) and connect to PC.
Get stock rom and ODIN.
Check out guide to using ODIN: ODIN for Dummies
format all wipe all install this:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1962762
You can not recovery stock rom over a CM 7 because the last one reformat the internal partition to EXT4 uncompatible with stock rom. So flash a stock rom with ODIN (possible the same you used for the nandroid backup) than restore.

I think you need to do a full format using ODIN..and reinstall CWM and install CM7 and try to recover your backup from CWM.:good:
I was using Ultimate ROM XXLSZ_JB_4.1.2_v5.2 without any problems apart from poor battery performance.
However, I attempted to install Rocket ROM-V1-XXLSZ and have now got myself into trouble.
I followed the instructions to flash the latest XXLSZ-OXA cwm kernel and then flashed the Rocket ROM. It worked ok but I would like to return to the Ultimate ROM and kernel I had before.
I have a pevious full Nandroid backup of the phone (made with ROM Manager Premium) of the Ultimate ROM and the PhilZ kernel it came with but cannot restore it. I get the error "MD5 Mismatch" and the restore aborts.
Even if I reflash the original Ultimate ROM with all the usual wipes, the XXLSZ-OXA cwm kernel is still there and I still can't restore from the Nandroid backup. I tried re-flashing PhilZ 3.1 kernel separately and then the Ultimate ROM file but this didn't work either. The kernel is still the same.
Can anyone tell me how to either
1. completely wipe the phone so I can install Ultimate ROM AND the built-in PhilZ 3.1 kernel.
OR
2. get the phone to the point where I can restore from my Nandroid backup which I assume will restore the earlier version of the ROM at the same time.
I hope I've explained the situation clearly enough.
Thanks in advance.
Trevor
Install a cm kernel then wipe your phone then install a fresh ultimate rom and later on advance restore the data

Go to cwm/backup and restore/misc nandroid setting/ untick md5 check. And try to restore again

You don't want to restore your nandroid. It is a bad backup.
In philz recovery go to mounts and storage. Format system data preload cache. Them go to advanced from main page and wipe dalvik
Flash ROM. Guaranteed to work.

Thanks. I know I can flash the ROM again but I was hoping to learn why the Nandroid backup no longer works.
Since posting, I gave up trying to restore the Nandroid backup, did all the usual wipes, re-flashed the Ultimate ROM and re-installed all my apps from scratch so my phone is more or less back to normal (Incidentally, I notice that no matter how many times I do this, all my music and photos are still there even though they're stored on the internal sd card. Dunno why).
Most of the ROMs I've tried have the kernel built in so all I needed to do was do the usual wipes and then flash. If I didn't like the ROM, I just wiped again and restored the Nandroid backup using CWM (Vol Up + Menu + Power) and the phone was back to its previous state.
The only thing I did different this time, as per the Rocket ROM instructions, was flash a kernel first. I may have done something wrong with that step or messed it up somehow. Even when I flashed an earlier version of the PhilZ kernel, the restore still didn't work. I've still a lot to learn about ROMs and Kernels, I guess.
As I said, I have successfully restored from Nandroid backups many times before this without any problem after experimenting with different custom ROMs. Can I ask you why Nandroid is a bad backup? Is it a problem with ROM Manager?
(One problem I've always had with ROM Manager is that if I choose to write the backup to the external sd card, it falls over with error messages. If I choose the option to backup to the internal card, it works but writes the BACKUP TO THE EXT CARD ANYWAY! I cannot get a reply from the dev about this).
Is there a better, more reliable backup method you'd recommend that does the same thing as the Nandroid?
I notice that different ROM managers use different CWM Recovery versions ie ROM Manager Reboot Recovery = 6.0.1.2, ROM Toolbox Rebooter = CWM 6.0.2.8 (same as Vol Up + Menu + Power). Could that be part of the problem?
Sorry for the long winded post.
