Swype on Galaxy Note - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've has a good look around for the info bite can't seem to find an answer. I have a UK Note with the Indian ICS ROM and of course it already has Swype but I've read of people on here inhaling Swype beta on their devices and it being very good. Can I do that as well even though I already have Swype? It's just the screen shots of the beta version so a much more compact keyboard which would be good with the added screen space for viewing what is being typed etc. I used to have the sensation and was able to instal Swype directly from their website but that device didn't have Swype from stock.
Many thanks

Hi,
I just installed the new beta version which is awesome. All you need to do is google Swype beta and register. This will allow you to install the latest version of Swype's installer which then installs the new Swype beta.
You will be happy to know that you can now install it even if you have the pre-installed one that came with the phone. Voice recognition also works really well as they have Nuance technology who have bought Swype.

^i just did that too
working perfectly

Just done it and it's a vast improvement over the stock Swype that came on the phone. Thank you

What keyboard do you like best?

I've used quite a few keyboards and my favorite was the Droid x multi touch that I used when I had cm6 but I reverted back to liberated froyo which isn't compattible with the droid x keyboard. I need to find another keyboard

swype by far.
Definitely swype...nothing I've used even compares.
I like swype except when u mess up

I use Swype as well. You should also try SlideIt.

I've tried it. I use swype over slide it but now I just got SwiftKey and I'm loving it

I like SwiftKey but I need a more responsive keyboard. Lol I type fast

the droid x multi touch! swype can be a little hard to correct sometimes
Smart Keyboard Pro too. Its international keyboard layouts come with built-in dictionaries.
I wish I could get the keyboard from the Samsung captivate

SwiftKey is, IMO, the best by far.
It takes a little patience for it to learn your style, but it's well worth it.

Slideit just doesn't have a decent enough prediction.
Swiftkey i tried multiple times, but it just doesn't do it for me, mostly because you still have to be accurate about what letters you do type. The word prediction is very slick.
I would definitely have to say swype by miles. You don't have to be accurate. Fast and sloppy - and its way faster then i could ever touch type.
As for people having issues with correction. you gotta learn to double click the messed up word.
Close second is the droid x multitouch (not working in liberated froyo) and followed by the stock htc_ime - although admittedly swiftkey is superior to stock.
edit: has anyone tried the new swype beta? its considerably faster, and with better prediction.

You need to either sideload the actual SWYPE application .apk file (not the installer) or enable install from unknown sources and then run the installer. I'm not sure about the latest Liberated release, but I know that in Cyanogen Mod 6.1 there is an option that you simply check to enable installation of non-market applications.
I've been using SlideIT for a few weeks now, and Swype before that. Just tried Swype again today after flashing Liberated, and I have to say SlideIt seems better. In particular, I like the suggested words being immediately above the keyboard in a row, instead of a big box at the top of the screen. SlideIT can be a little iffy on occasion, I'll admit. Granted, I'm using version 1.60 of Swype which I'm sure is extremely dated.
Oh and I've tried those weird keyboards like 8pen et. al... don't like them at all. 8pen feels like a rotary dial, lol. Swiftkey was nice, but I'm too lazy to hit all the letters in (or even the first 2-3 as is usually the case) when I can just swype.
Swype = overrated, clunky piece of poor autocorrect crap
SwiftKey = worst keyboard design ever, small keys
SlideIt = looks terrible
Better Keyboard = looks terrible, lackluster autocorrect
8pen = Do I need to say anything about it? Common sense dictates it'd be slow as hell no matter how fast you type.
That leaves Smart Keyboard. The best, hands down.

How to get the HRC keyboard

I want to get the HTC keyboard on my NS as I am used to it on my Desire HD, I have tried the same file and method as you do with the Nexus One but I always get a force close error when I try to select the new input method.
Am I doing something wrong or do i need a different file to install
http://postkreative.eu/HTC_IME_hi22.apk
i prefer stock keyboard over HTC_IME.. it doesnt have multi touch :\
either that or. http://www.appbrain.com/app/smart-keyboard-pro/net.cdeguet.smartkeyboardpro

Smart keyboard has a HTC_IME skin that looks like HTC but includes multitouch capabilities. Try it out.
That worked great thanxks

Possibly go find a version for it thats compatible for 2.3.X.
The link I sent you before is 2.2.X but it does work. Most people have moved onto better keyboards because HTC IME is missing the multitouch keyboard feature.
@Borky: Your post doesn't help. The OP already has the keyboard and your keyboard thread hasn't been updated since October. So I doubt its the newer version.
HTC Sense is also not running 2.3.X (yet!) so unless you can port the keyboard from the sense 2.3 leak.... no luck

same here, it works fine.
but it sucks compared to Android GB Keyboard
i used to believe Swype was great until i started using AGB keyboard, now i can't live without it.
it's simply that good
AGB keyboard = stock keyboard on 2.3.3 / 2.3.4
i actually find swype to be cumbersome and slow now

Granted I'm a first time Android user, but I couldn't get used to the keyboard on my NS4G. I'm also coming from a Pre with a physical keyboard that I could type one handed without looking.
I admit the Swype keyboard looks like garbage compared to the new keyboard, but in terms of usability, I can punch out a text using Swype waayyy faster than on the new keyboard.
okay, yes, if you want to type one handed in the mist of a rush hour in a public transit, then Swype is a better choice
but for multi-touch fast 2 hands typing, the stock android keyboard is magnificent specially when it comes to language switching
it gives you instantaneous language swap, so in the same message you can mix and match languages without the looooooong steps required on swype.
Confirming also that swype is working fine on NS4G. I had to log into the swype beta website, 'remove' the old device they had listed for my account, re download the inataller, let it do its thing, e.g. install, license...
Off topic, do guys get key lag with AGB Keyboard? ..and did u install from market, or literally just the stock?

I went there today, and saw that the Beta is still open. Just sign up to get the keyboard.
Also after 30 minutes of using the stock keyboard, and then 30 minutes of using the sywpe I went back to stock. The predection function is good. Almost as good as the real thing i had on the epic

do u keep vibrate on? Does that make the keyboard lag and/or miss keys (for you)?

Is there any way to get the non-beta pre-loaded version that was on the Epic?? I really really miss the ability to double tap a misspelled word and bring up a list of other words....

+1 on the sprint skin. Looks nice with the high contrast of our screens.
I just came over from a supersonic so I was having a bit of trouble adjusting to typing on a smaller screen, but this certainty helps. I find it even easier to use Swype on a 4.0" screen.

Giving it a try now; I used to use Swype all the time on my EVO and EVO Shift, but I like the Gingerbread keyboard a lot so I hadn't given much thought to installing Swype on my Nexus.
Why not though, eh?
The Sprint skin is kind of trippy. Digging it.

The skin is nice, but don't miss the new features that are only available in this version (for now anyway):

This has some other updates too, at least for me. I stopped using Swype a few months ago. One thing I noticed is that it has better prediction like slide it has. (I found slide it much easier to use.)
Anyway, I am liking swype again.

I know, but I want to try. website swype can not download this version only 3.6.84.26668
Anybody with a regular (non-Sprint) Nexus S tried downloading this? I gave it a go last night and ended with just regular ver. May have been a bit early, time-wise, but it's probably tied to device fingerprint.
Those of you who have successfully installed this new version, would you mind uploading your build.prop (for the device fingerprint)? Assuming it's just a simple check on initial install, it could work for us non-Sprint-ers.
Loving the Sprint Swype, least Sprint understands they owe us.

Swype installer

Hey all,
here's Swype installer for the Nexus S, you will need an account, but nothing more! I think it's pretty easy to install it!
DOWNLOAD

why through a filehoster?
you can get the installer over the official swype-website. since you need an account, you will be going there anyway.
not install says that the screen size and not compatible
Got mine from the main sure a long time ago. Didn't realize it was news. Had to try a couple of different ones I believe before I found one that fit the screen appropriately. Love Swype.
