I used voodoo without any issues. Really liking this update.

Has the ics leak fixed the data issues of 905? I've tried every trick besides rolling back to 902 and my wife still has no data. She isn't happy lol

Since flashing, mine hasn't had a drop yet! Past few weeks I've wanted to throw this damn thing against a brick wall cuz of data drops.

Just use the Razr's Edge method in that link in the OP...it's a no brainer.

If you FXZ back to 902 then update to 905 directly from the ZIP, then you will not get any data drops. I have been on 905 since it was released, not one drop. ICS is now official though (leaked, not a custom mod), so data will be solid on ICS now. anyone tried motofail on the new ICS leak yet? It works on all the custom ICS roms so far.

No drop for me either. Had same issues on the d4 but it stopped after flashing ics leak. Looks like they are aware and trying to fix. I hope

How do you update directly to 905 from the zip after fxz to 902? I take it I need to download the official 905 ota from somewhere?
And doing it this way is better than booting into 902 after fxz then taking 905 update through software update in settings menu?

I wouldn't think there'd be any difference. It's applying the same update, regardless of how you initiate the process.

I am also getting great data since the switch to the Leak, previously on 905 i was one of the people that had horrible data drops ... I'm on 2233

Motofail does not work on either leak... you need to use DjrBliss's Razr Root. It works just like motofail... I'll get you the direct link from his page
Edit: New to XDA and can't post links.. how weird

You can download the 905 leak then you can fxz to 902 and then use stock recovery to flash 905 as well as 2233... it doesn't save that much time if you have a decent download rate

Don't use the 905 leak. You will get errors left and right. 902 FXZ then OTA 905 then ICS leak

He was asking how that would be possible... But I definitely agree always take the ota if possible

After you FXZ to .902 just put the .905 update zip file on your sd card, boot into stock recovery (turn off phone, hold down both vol buttons + power, press vol down then up to go into recovery, press both vol buttons at android exclamation icon to see menu options), then update your phone by selecting the .905 zip.
You can do the OTA as well, it just takes longer. I FXZ every month or so, so I like to keep the files local rather than having to download it every time.
FYI - anyone who says that updating via OTA is better than stock recovery and using the ZIP is giving you bad information and/or downloaded a corrupt zip and their advice is based on user error. I've updated to .905 about 10 times now (always via stock recovery, never OTA) and never once had a problems.

They are exactly the same. The leaked .905 update is the same file as the OTA.
The data drops are caused primarily by network issues related to the eHRPD authentication system used by VZW to allow CDMA/EVDO and LTE to coexist and handoff to each other.
Motorola devices are more susceptible to this problem than others it seems, but all experience it to some degree. Network conditions are extremely variable due to many factors and change constantly and the build out for LTE has caused many issues locally for many users.
This makes blanket statements about RF performance of a given device and baseband version etc. fairly meaningless and has been a great source of frustration for the engineers who are responsible for writing and testing the firmware for the OEMs.
I am not trying to make excuses for them, but rather trying to shed some light on the nature of the problem and why it is so vexing and continues to be an ongoing issue throughout the transition to LTE.
Verizon is very close mouthed regarding the problem and isn't helping at all to provide useful information, of course.

It is not really a "problem" here. I have never had any data drop issues because I live in a large metropolitan area, the LTE infrastructure here is solid. It has everything to do with the technology in your area, that is why there are so many mixed reviews on Verizon being amazing or horrible. Agree - Very little of these good or bad experiences has anything to do with the device being used.

It says that. Ignore it. It is .904 mine said the same.
and no. you have to be on stock .902 bloated, odexed, root is okay, but you will lose it. If not on stock .902 you have to FXZ back, then go in to stock recovery (holding both volume buttons and powering up, and pressing down once and up to open it) then one the fancy logo appears press both volume buttons, the apply update. Navigate to it and select it. Then once its done you'll be .904 stock, unrooted. So run the motofail root script. Then enjoy.

I have a question. I don't own a bionic, but my brother in law has one (great phone), I rooted it with motofail, installed safestrap. He is on.902 currently. once I had him ripped, I immediately switched to the safe side. It made a backup before it switched to safe. I put eclipse 2.2 on it. Now. I am waiting for 904 to go official. When I switch back to unsafe, will I be back on stock right away? or do I have to do a restore of that backup once I am back on unsafe side?
Now, once back to stock, rooted 902, can he get an ota? I would think he could. I know in my thunderbolt, if you are stock and rooted, you can get an ota. Sorry for all the questions, just want to be sure what to do. Moto is much different than htc is in this respect. Thanks, Daniel

I applied 904 to my unsafe system just by switching over to it and following the guide. You will likely have to reflash eclipse after backing up your unsafe system again. I didn't though and switched back to safe system and checked phone info and it has the updated radios

Once the official release hits probably. First you would revert back to your "unsafe" system through the safestrap boot menu which should still be running stock 902 (or whatever version he has) Once that is loaded you reboot and it will boot your stock system.
Once your up and running in the stock system the phone will update its apps(Since the stock system has not been run since you rooted/rom'd I'm assuming). I recommend being on WiFi if possible unless he has unlimited data. After that completes you will need to Hit the button to the left of the home button (the 4 blocks with one colored in) > Settings > About Phone > System Updates.
It will look for the update and download it OTA if available. It will wipe out your root so you will need to motofail again after that and probably reinstall SafeStrap(I had to)

Forgot to mention. You may or may not have to reflash Eclipse to your safe system after the update. I personally didn't and the radios are reflecting the update but the system is still showing as 902 update since im running off of my original 902 eclipse flash.

Stuck waiting, just like ICS
It's pretty pathetic that they can't even get minor updates out the door. It doesn't bode well for us getting ICS before this phone outlives its usefulness. Sorry to be so cynical, but, VZW and updates has just been horrible. (And not just for the Bionic....right, anyone waiting for an official ICS build for a 4G Xoom? All 2 of you that haven't rooted it and gone to a ROM...) Uh, anyway, let's hope they get this update rolled out soon so we can resume the wait for ICS.

I don't want to seem like an A-hole. But before the phone out lives its usefulness? Almost any smart phone on the market will be useful for years. It's only the american greed wanting the newest baddest phones. How many people actually wait the full 2 years before upgrading? I know I don't. Cell phones have came a long ways, and my wifes DROID OG is still being used as a back up phone being 3 years old. So use a different argument. We will get it, just be patient

I guess you completely missed my point. What I don't want to see happen, and is very POSSIBLE, is that we get ICS after Jelly Bean is released. You're going to tell me that would make you happy? If I had waited a couple more months from when I bought the Bionic in the first place, i.e. having the patience you're telling me I need now, I could have simply bought a phone that CAME with ICS rather than having to wait months for it...

It wouldnt make me happy, nor would it upset me. I buy my phones according to the hardware and the specs that I think will fit me the best. The operating system is just an added bonus. Of course I want ICS, and then Jelly Beam, but I'm not going to complain about the speed I receive the update. Some are faster, some are slower. Just the way of life. Id rather wait.an extra 4 months for a build that isn't super glitchy, as to have it as soon as it's released and it not function properly. Just my opion

[Q] should i go for the .905 leak now or wait for official ota

I just got my bionic on saturday and i love it... i saw that .905 has leaked out... Now my question should i go for it or wait for the ota... my phone is not rooted as it runs very well with the current 902 rom... and If i do get the. 905 rom will i be able to update the software in the future

If your not rooted yet or using custom roms, then I would just wait for the ota. I'm rooted and romed and haven't bothered myself because it's really just a radio update. However, I would root your phone just for all the other benifits.

Depends on how adventurous you're feeling
If the .905 release isn't the final, then you will be off the upgrade path. Getting back onto it isn't impossible, but it certainly is a pita.
At this point, it's been so long since the soak testers posted about their invite, I'd wonder if they will push another version out. Most everyone thought that .904 would be the next stable release, and now .905 seems less likely too.
Wish we had more info on what was going on behind the curtain with moto and vzw, but alas we do not.

I would very much like to upgrade to the ota 905 JUST so I can put the Eclipse V3.0 ROM on my Bionic. I am just not certain of what to do. I think I need to use RSD Lite woth the 902 "rollback". Then update to 905, root again with motofail, then install the ROM??
I have confidence in doing this onc I have all the right pieces. It's not like I havent done this before (HP Touchpa, Motorola Xoom, Toshiba Thrive). I just need to make sure I have all that I need and have the correct install instructions....
I have a rooted bionic with version 902 currently on it. Will upgrading OTA to 905 cause my phone to brick or should i just wait for a rooted version to come out?

Had to get rid of safeboot and go with ClockWork mod recovery since the locked bootloader didn't like the file signature, but I put safeboot back on after the install, did my backup, and I've been runinig without a glitch since. I didn't even wipe data.

I tried to update to 905 from 902 and it keeps failing. Could that be happening because I had soft bricked my phone a while ago but was able to save it by finding the stock online?
I safe strapped back to my unsafe side. Waited a day to see if the update dropped. Nothing. So i downloaded it off phandroid's article about it. Flashed it after removing safe strap. No issues. Kept root. Flashed safe strap again. 4G radio is great now. I'm using Droid Theory's Axiom ROM and data connects immediately now. Used to take a minute or two after a boot. Loving this.

What does it say when it fails? If you can get it OTA, extract it out of your /Cache/ folder and Place the file on your SD card, like actual Micro SD. Power off. Hold both volume buttons and press the power button. You are in fastboot. Press volume down to highlight Recovery, then tap volume up to select it. Now do the option for update with zip. Choose the file. Watch it as it installs. When it fails it should state what was wrong.

it will only be there when it is first downloaded. Once you try to flash it it is wiped from the cache. So you would download it when prompted. Then when it finishes and asks to reboot, choose you'll reboot and install later, now you can extract it from the Cache folder.

Bionic ICS Leak v 6.7.2233 (Android 4.0.4) [download link]

This is a leak for the 6.7.2233 update (Android 4.0.4) for the Bionic.
You must be on stock .905 to use this.
You must flash from STOCK RECOVERY.
Use of Safestrap is NOT recommended.
You may need to FXZ to .902, take the OTA update to .905 and then flash from STOCK RECOVERY.

installed ICS
Installed 6.7.2233 and it was pretty flawless. I flashed back to .902 and did an OTA update to .905. I haven't rooted yet but I hear there is a way to do it.
Couple of things I noticed
On stock launcher, when plugging in webtop it doesn't work. I got ADW and it works fine now.
Bluetooth seems to work better, wifi is WAY faster (I know this by doing speed tests a lot before and after). I can't speak for 4G yet but will report back when I know for sure how it's doing.
CPU is now running at 1200MHz vice 1000 and it doesn't seem that it auto adjusts to lower speeds like previous versions did so we will see how battery life does. Battery life seems fine so far though.
Any pics or video? Please post!

I have been running this for 24 hours. In that past 24 hours, the data connection works worlds better than the cm9 of gummy roms I have tried in the pas 2 weeks. In those pas 2 weeks, whenever I hit a 4g zone, no data at all. Today I drove through different zones and was switching between the 2 without issue! Hopefully this update will help solve problems some of us have been having with a data connection.
are we supposed to used rsd to install this ics file?

I have tried several times but it keeps saying it can't verify signature. Do I rename it to update.zip?
Has anyone found a way to root after applying the update? My attempt at keeping root didn't work.

It's surprisingly easy, but I can understand the daunting task if you've never done any playing with the guts
Download the link at the front page to your computer.
Connect your phone to your computer and click on the "Mass Storage" Setting when the USB options come up.
Copy the downloaded .zip file to your external SD card. Don't worry about unzipping it or anything.
Once it's down, turn your phone off, then turn the phone back on while holding both the up and down arrows. This will boot your phone into what's called "Stock Recovery". To navigate Stock, you click down to move through the options, then up to select a choice.
Click down once (iirc) until your highlight Recovery, then click up to select
This will place you in Recovery mode, if there is nothing on your phone but an icon of android and an exclamation point, hold both of the volume buttons again.
From here, you will use the volume buttons to navigate, and the power button to select items.
Go to, Install update from external storage.
Highlight the .zip file you put there earlier
Wait 5-10 minutes.
Enjoy your ice creamy goodness 2-3 weeks before everyone else. Once you start it up it will "optimize the apps" for a bit, this is natural ICS behavior.
Now that you've flashed your own rom in custom mode, you can start looking at rooting and flashing custom roms. Personally I'd hold out until the developers have time to parse out ICS and update their roms. I believe even the current unofficial "ICS" roms are based on Gingerbread kernels that has been heavily modified.
Here you go folks. I put it up on my server which is much faster.
http://playeraffinity.com/files/Blur_Version.5.9.905.XT875.Verizon.en.US.zip
I was going to put it on a download page and all that jazz, but I know you all want to get right to downloading it so all i ask is if you have any free time, check out the site my server is for, Player Affinity. There's a lot of interesting articles on there and you might find something worth sharing.
Once ICS is official on the bionic, I'll get cracking at an Affinity ROM for it.

[FXZ] 6.7.246 - Final ICS

Allright, ICS FXZ for Bionic can be found here:
http://sbf.droid-developers.org/cdma_targa/list.php
Secure version has been increased, so no way back to GB and if you have botched your phone with ICS leak on it, then you can use the file to revive the phone. You flash it on your own risk.

I need to revert my Dad's Bionic to stock - it's running the latest stock GB update - but with a custom recovery so the updates will not install.
Can I use this to bring it to ICS from GB? or will this have an adverse effect?

Not sure. Why not just use the 905 fxz and manually update to 246?

the links are dead in the sticky above
so is this the official OTA ICS fxz? if so then i can just use THIS to get back onto the OTA update path can't i?
Since I haven't used my Bionic in a while, and I'm not up to all the lingo. I've currently got the stock rooted rom on my phone now. I'm guessing this is the update that was just pushed out.
Will I need to re-root my phone after?
I'm pretty sure if I let it do the OTA, I have to re-root (I also haven't run stock roms on any of my phones in a while), is that the case with the download?

Yes.
When something goes wrong as usual since I love tinkering with my phone, I simply flash GB again. With this update, what to do? Can this be rooted? Does this works with bootstrap/safestrap?
Thanks for noticing my silly questions

Is there a new root process on ICS?

Yes to both. And there is a Motofail-ICS available to root it.
Going from .2233 ICS leak to .246 OTA.
This is gonna sound like a noob question here, but since I'm currently on the .2233 ICS leak, I can use this file 6.7.2-223_DBN_M4-23
Blur_Version.6.7.246.XT875.Verizon.en.US to install the version of ICS being sent out by Verizon using RSD, right? Other than being rooted, it's still stock.

No, you must be on 905 to install 246 . Other wise you risk bricking your phone.you can use house of bionic also.

RSD to .902 from .2233
Another possible noobish question... since the .905 download link in the Depriciated List One Stop Shop post isn't working, would there be any risk in using RSD to go back to .902 from .2233? I'm not going to try it tonight, with me having to get up early in the morning, but if anyone could provide a link to the .905 download so I could save myself a step, mainly going back to .902, doing the OTA to .905, then doing the OTA to ICS, it'd be appreciated.

hold on just a minute. I just used this from 232 to jump up to 246 on my stock side. Correct me if I'm wrong but this is an FXZ or in other words a fastboot file that will flash everything back to stock 246 or at least thats the way I understood it. Just like the 905 FXZ that came before it. Botch your phone up FXZ back to stock.
Going from .2233 to final ICS.
When you applied the ICE OTA, were you rooted? Also, was it this file you used?

thanks for this. adb is broke on my Bionic, and I've been waiting for an FXZ to try to fix it. It worked back in April, but when I tried it with the .905 for some reason it didn't fix it, maybe this one will.

ATTENTION: You can use Motofail-ICS or RAZR'S EDGE to root the ICS .246 update.

There are like a zillion threads (ok I'm exaggerating) ballooning over the forum about, "How do I root .246?"
Motofail works just fine for this. As does Razer's Edge. It's been answered quite a few times by various posters.
Crobs links to Motofail here in Optional Step E:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1771993
So hopefully this catches your attention if you're wondering what to use to root. (And hopefully no more new threads on this very simple answer will pop up ^_^)
Thank you for making my search simple for me. Haven't rooted yet but motofail is on my laptop from the gingerbread days.

Unfortunately Motofail didn't work on my Bionic, failed on the 1st step (push exploit folder), continued past but everything got a failure message. I ended up using Razr's Edge (link) which did the trick in one try.
Seems to use the same exploit but slightly different script to push it? (too busy @ work to look into the details, sorry)
Just use Rzrs edge. It honestly doesn't get any easier then that.
Plug in the USB. Turn on debugging. press enter..... done
Motofail has an ics version. I got it from 4shared after a quick Google search for Motofail ics

Unrooting when Razrs Edge was used
I just rooted my bionic after the ICS update and put on Safestrap v3.05 and backed up the system as it was at that point to capture the entire OS and apps. So I can put it back as it was to that point. (Rooted and installed Safestrap v3.05)
My question is 2 fold actually.
1) If/when we get JB, do i need to be unrooted and totally stock to get the OTA OR can i just be rooted and remove Safestrap with all apps and OS restored to full to get the OTA JB?
2) If i need to be unrooted, is there a way to unroot the bionic after i have used Razrs Edage?
Thanks for any help in advance
Eric

1. You definitely need to remove safestrap. Root shouldn't be an issue as i understand it. "Forever Roots" are, but you didn't go that route.
2. I believe House of Bionic will unroot and keep data safe. I always fxz before ota events, which wipes everything.
