[Q] About flashing paranoid ROM - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there,
I recently bought a new GNOTE and i want to flash it for paranoid ROM (or another ROM ICS based). It was on GB XXLA6 and i found it was impossible to root / unlock so i used this method :
- Flash N7000OXAKJ4_DBT with ODIN
- Zerglin rush CF-ROOT
- Flash N7000OXELA1_SER NO WIPE with ODIN mobile (EVEROOT, SU, MOBILE ODIN, CWM MANAGER)
- Flash Abyssnote 4.2 Kernel
Otherwise i needed to unlock my SIM so I used Galaxy_S unlock.
Everything is ok now but i'm on gingerbread... And I want a new ICS ROM ! I had a HTC Sensation and I flashed it lot of time easily...
I've read every FAQ I found but I've head a lot about brick so I'm a little bit afraid...
"DON'T flash FROM ANY SAMSUNG ICS OR ROMS BASED ON SAMSUNG KERNELS (my CM9, AOSP, etc)"
Humm I'm confused, does it means that I must not flash a ROM with samsung stock KERNEL or FROM a samsung stock kernel ??
Does it increase the binary counter / cause yellow triangle ?
I someone can help myself... Can I safely flash this ROM with my phone spec ?
Sorry for the noob question, and for my bad english and thanks for reading/answering.

you are already on GB and on abyssnote42, so it's ok to data wipe and flash (that's the safest you can be).
of course, there is ALWAYS a risk. the choice is yours.
and no, it does not cause increase in binary counter or yellow triangle since you will be doing it from CWM.

Since you are on a rooted GB rom you can follow the instruction on the Paranoid website
Install Rom: http://d-h.st/lU1
Install HYBRID Gapps: http://4ndr01d.com/drcmda/common/
Wipe caches, factory reset is a must if you're coming from another rom than CM9
If your statusbar is gone after the first reboot: longpress Powerbutton > Toggle Statusbar
Reboot and edit your Apps Dpi under Settings/Paranoid Settings/P.A.D. Hold the powerbutton to see the new fullscreen-togglebutton
I flashed this rom from a rooted GB rom without problem.

Thanks for your help I will keep you update when I flash my phone

Hey,
Flashing done and work perfectly ! Thanks for your answers.
Can I flash other ICS custom ROM from paranoid or I need to downgrade to GB ?
Don't know if i understood but the only way to flash safely is not to use samsung non rooted stock rom with samsung stock kernel on ICS ?

[Q] Question for rooting SGN

Im currenly using SGN GT-N7000,
Android Version : 2.3.6
Kernel : 2.6.35.7-N7000DXLC2
i want to root + cwm + flash new rom ( looking for ICS )
i have searched and some of forumers said these version of kernel cant root yet,
is it?
any idea's?
any tutorials for me? easier for me to understands
Thanks.
Lazy, aren't you? There's a big juicy sticky in the Development subforum covering that in great detail.
But since I'm so nice:
Use Odin to downgrade to a stock ROM that is directly rootable (KKA is great for this purpose), then root using DoomLord Zergrush exploit. Flash a new build using Mobile Odin Pro, keeping root, then flash an appropriate CFroot kernel via Mobile Odin to get CWM recovery. Then you can safely flash whatever.
You may need to downgrade. You can check Dr. Ketan's sticky in the Development forum for the guide.

Hahh..
i do readed and watched several times of the rooting tutorials..
and some says DXLC2 are newer version and can't be root yet,
is it true?
and must downgrade it only can root?
Yes, follow Flintberg's directions and check out the sticky thread.
..and try reading and posting in the relevant section
thanks guys for helping
im from Malaysia, so
can i download / downgrade to :-
N7000DXKK1 --- 2.3.5 2011 November --- N7000OLBKJ6 ( Malaysia )
coz " KKA " roms is other country.. affraid the language changed..
if can, so that after downloaded these older stock rom ( directly rootable ),
use Odin3 to flash it?
after that where to get mobile odin pro? market ?
then use mobile odin pro to flash newer rom " Not Directly Rootable " DXLC2 " with " Ever Root " option ENABLE .
finish >> phone already rooted ???? running on [email protected] ?
got CWM too??
sry.. headache !! -.-"
Since we are in the noob-zone, i have two questions to ask.
1. If i decide to go back in stock ROM, can i use Odin for that? No matter what custom ROM i am at that moment?
2. If i want to flash another custom rom over my old custom rom, do i just make reset, wipe cache, wipe darvic cache and flash using CWM recovery?

1. YES
2. YES, unless going from gb to ics custom. You can flash abyss 4.2, reboot recovery then flash

[Q] [ROM] Criskelo's ICS V7 install question

Hi Guys,
sorry for this noobie question but I'm quite new to android.
I've passed hours reading the forum about roms, kernels etc...but there are so much information for my little brain that now I don't know what to do...
So I'm on a GB 2.3.6 XXLC1 stock rom, with Franco's kernel 3.x version and I'd like to install Crisleko's ICS V7 ROM on my device but i'm not able to know how really to install it on the phone...the phone is full rooted. I wouldn't like to brick my note, so here's the reason of my question :
In my case, which is the most efficient way to install this rom ?
Sorry if this question has already been posted, but within all answer, I don't know what to do....
Thanks a lot for yout support.
You can flash the rom also directly from CWM. The reboot into recovery and select : _install zip from sd card _chose zip from sd card _select the criskeloRom zip _click yes ...... Flash it from Cwm i raccomend the Cwm app.from chainfire : _copy the rom to internal sd _start Cwm manager _ chose flash update _select criskelo Rom _click on yes...
I'm also afraid to hardbrick my device, and dude, i bought it 5 days ago lol
I had a Galaxy Nexus and flashed, installed new kernels, rooted, did everything.
I asked few ppl here and they said we should wait till the official ICS comes, it will take 1 or 2 weeks, better than hardbrick my note <3
Not quite because most bricks actually happen because of the stock ICS ROM.
Flash whatever you want, just remember to go from GB and not stock ICS, and remember - never do a factory reset while on stock ICS kernel.
If you need to do a factory reset, just flash a GB kernel, or flash GB stock with Odin, then wipe and flash ICS back.
Also, CM9 highly recommended
Ok guys, thanks a lot for answers. I've tryed to flash this rom and everything worked fine except the fact I'm a noobie and restore with TB Apps and user datas ^^. Now i'll know that user data don't have to be restored !
So I'm came back to my GB rom...
Maybe one more question :
I'll installed a new rom, I think i've understood what to do and what not to do with wipe from ICS roms but after wipe data / factory resest ans dalvik cache, is there a way to have a connection wizard software so a to set everything up because I had no data connection anymore ?
Thank a lot for your support
Hello Pascal-T,
I think I'm in the exact same position as you (except that I'm not rooted yet), but i'm also on GB LC1 and I want to go to Crisleko's ICS V7 ROM !
As I understood, you have directly install Crisleko's ICS V7 ROM on your rooted GB LC1 ? So it's not needed to install an other lower ICS ROM before going to the LQ3 of Criskelo ?
If yes this is great, then I just have to root my GB LC1, do a backup up with TB, and then I can follow Crisleko's ICS V7 ROM topic ? (At the begining I though I should first flash a stock ICM ROM but It seems to be THE THING TO AVOID).
If someone can just confirm these informations, that would be perfect
Thank you !
Well this seems like a perfect place for me to post Ive asked around, And searched a lot, But still cant figure this out. I dont wanna sound like a noob ( I am to the Note )
Ive been flashing and modding for years, Samsungs, HTC's, Sony Ericssons so I know what to do.
The thing is, All the threads I read about the bricking, and how to avoid it, Just keep forever linking me to different threads, and i end up back at the start. I dont have the Note yet (should be arriving any time) Im thinking of Only rooting for now as im not confident enough to flash without errors. But when i do, what i need to do is, Use ODIN to revert to GB (Unless it comes with GB) then:
1, Flash CF-ROOT kernel
2, Flash abyss safe kernel in cwm
3, reboot back into cwm
4, Do a full wipe
5, Install a ROM
Is that right ? I like the look of PA but would like to try a modded stock ROM to start with, So any recommendations ?
TIA
A-D

Doubts, afraid and don't know how to do it safely

Ok, i know this must be here somewhere but i just can't find it. Too much time digging i guess....
I'm tired of waiting for samsung to release a solution and want to try something else.
Currently i'm on ics with lpy (german stock) so i have the famous problem (already checked). Here's the doubt: if i go back to gb with pc odin won't i have a chance to brick my device ?? I'm talking to dload an official gb rom (from dr ketan's thread) and do it as it's supposed to be done.
If i brick it will it be "the one"??
Second doubt: what rom can i flash safely?? I read a lot of threads with a lot of kernels and so far the only ones mentioned to be safe are cm9 and franko...... So basicly i need a rom with one of those??
So i can just do it like this: flash gb with pc odin, dload rom (and kernel) from what i like?? After i tried it out and don't like it and with a supposed safe kernel i can alway flash a new rom ?? No possibilty to superbrick it??
What is currently the best combination regarding battery and performance since they all claim the same............?????
Another (stupid) question: every time i flash an unofficial rom it will increase the counter or with the newer ones this is annulled? I know with a jtag i can clear them.
So basicly i'm confused and afraid to play around with this device. I have flashed other android devices in the past and did a bit of reading, the only thing that still is unclear is the possibility of superbrick........
Thanks for the help,
becosemsaida
Speedmod and Dafuq kernels are safe as well. Basically you are good to go with the knowledge you have.
Flash an older GB rom with PC Odin without the hardbrick risk, root it and flash a CWM kernel and then flash a rom based on CM9 or any safe kernel, just stay clear of roms based on official Samsung roms unless you replace the kernel with a safe one and never wipe data, cache or Dalvik on an official ICS rom.
I've been using the official AOKP rom, build 39 at the moment. It's fast, smooth, great battery life and excellent customization, based on the CM9 kernel so it's safe from the superbrick.
If you use a safe rom you can use CWM to wipe and flash other roms without the risk of superbricking.
same as above, flashed rootable GB then rooted using cfroot... and waiting for samsung to release the fix
I had the same problem I was afraid to be on the official ICS and last week I had solved like previous members said.
- First I flashed GB rom (I preferred KKA because it is directly rootable which dr.ketan mentioned it on his root guide)
- Then I rooted it with zergrush (see dr.ketan's root guide) it is the easiest way to root the device without yellow triangle
- After that I have flashed Paranoid Android ICS rom which is based on CM9 and is totally safe against the superbrick bug. It is also really exciting to use my Galaxy Note on the tablet mode with this rom I can recommend it to you.
Anyway if you really dont want to use any of the custom roms you can also flash ICS but not with its original kernel because it is totally risky.
you can use Mobile Odin and before flashing you can select an ICS stock rom but you have to change the kernel with speedmod or franco kernel. then with this combination you can flash and wipe your data after flash completes.
most of the people says that the bug is in the official ICS kernels and it triggers the emmc bug which superbricks the device. So with the other custom kernels you should be safe.
As final words I still would say that the safest way is to flash a custom ICS rom which is not based on official ICS roms. For example Paranoid is a CM9 based rom and is totally safe.
So decision is yours dude

[Q] Flash custom ICS rom over unrooted GB stock

Hi,
well ICS has finally landed in my corner of the globe.
Unfortunately, the Samsung idiots have decided to roll it out even if it still bricks phones, sometimes even at startup...
So, my phone hasn't yet heard Samsung's call for an upgrade and I'd prefer not to do anything stupid.
Formerly, I was on a GB rooted rom that I updated to the last GB (unroot, then update via KIES).
The fact is, I want to know if there is any possibility for me to flash to an ICS rom directly ?
So far I understood that I can possibly make it even with an unrootable GB thanks to Odin. But I'd prefer not to mess up with my precious...
Thanks in advance for you help.
You have to go back to a rooted GB...i prefer KL3 and only then flash the custom ICS roms..its the safest method...you can know more in the videos. ..links are in ky sig.
Yes you can flash directly with odin
Here is thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997
You may find installation and rooting guide link at starting of ICS listing.
Just to add, if you want best performance then take backup(there is limited scope on non rooted) and wipe cache and wipe data from recovery before flashing ICS.
Edit : oh sorry just i read header you need custom ics, i wrote above is for stock ics.
Thanks a lot for your quick answers!
Actually I wanted to switch directly to RocketRom, but it seems that I need first to have a stock rooted phone. :/
So if I get it well:
If unrootable GB ROM:
1/ Flash to stock ICS using Odin
2/ Flash safe custom kernel such as speedmod
My question there is, can I do both at once using Odin?
1/ Flash to stock ICS using Odin
(Still with the french one? It's deemed as being unsafe, any particular recommendation?)
2/ Root the phone with the third post on dr.ketan's amazing thread
3/ Flash to safe custom kernel such as speedmod using CWM
Right?
So if I understand well, the issue is because of the "erase rom" method present on ICS stock kernel is not supported properly by the faulty emmcs ?
So unless on a "safe" kernel: No wipe/full wipe/reset. right?
Sorry for my messy post...

Q Which kernel on SGN_XX_OXA_KJ1_FACTORYFS?

Hey Guys,
i am coming from galaxy spica (after 2,5 year of rooting) now i have bought galaxy note in Austria with simlock.
So i have make a root, use apk Galaxy_S Unlock and back unroot (i have still 1,5 year garanty, but i am not sure after this unlocking
I had kernel unrootable LA4,
so 1. I made via odin SGN_XX_OXA_KJ1_FACTORYFS
2. CFROOt_for_kernel_KJ1.rar
3. CF-Root-SGN_XX_OXA_LA4-v5.0-CWM5.zip
5. unroot via DooMLoRD_v1_UNROOTING
but what i dont understand (on galaxy spica was jut froy 2.2 and many difrent kernel or mod)
how or which version of kernel i can put now?
I would like to update on 4.0.4 (first 2.3.6) via kies or OTA doesnt work. I would like to keep without root.
Now i am downloading 2.3.6. - N7000XXKKA_N7000OXXKK5_ATO.zip but after reading many thereads i am not sure if i can put any kernel on KJ1?
Thank you for a little explanation.
I would like to know if on kernel KL1 (2.3.5) is possible to put any kernel ??? (4.0.4) ?
Go back to stock GB ROM using PC odin.Instructions are in dr.ketan's thread.
Update via Kies or flash stock ICS 4.0.4 using PC Odin again.
What a mess..
Go back to stock gb.. Then flash any known ics safe kernel (notecore/speedmod) via odin(you already gotta have the custom rom in your sd so once the phone restart go straight to cwm and wipe/data/cache/dalvik) recovery keys are volume up+power+home
Then flash any desired(custom) rom after that run triangle away to get rid of the yellow triangle and that's it(encourage you to try cleanote rom its super fast and as close to stock as posible with Notecore kernel) the phone flies and battery its great
Stock its laggy and loaded with crap and the stock kernels are unsafe to wipe/factory reset due to the Emmc brick bug..
Avoid stock kernels as much as you would avoid walking through shyt

Thank you guys,
i have already stock rom 4.0.4 LRG opened germany kernel, everthing is working. I would like to stay with this stock room and wait for official JB.
If will JB be not better than mayby a root. But I need my phone for use not for playing. Like my old Spica. Always was something wrong. So many many kernels or mod.
Just of what am i disappointed its battery live. My tread here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1830995
I tried all off, like sync. but still one day of very light use it not good.
Maybe will i have to make a root and wipe all... :-/
