When I checked out the software update from settings, a update showed up and i installed it. But I got no clue what I installed and what changes have come up.
My device now gives the following as about description:
P7300XXKJ6
Kernel 2.6.36.3
Build HTJ85B P7300JPKL2
Anyone?

Hi everybody, I installed legend 1.3, but there is a couple things doesn't feel right afterward.
1. How come i flashed 1.3, but in "About Phone" page, it only shows 1.1 under build number?
2. I flashed samurai kernel, but on the phone it still shows "2.6.35.7-I897UCKK4-CL614489" for Kernel Version?
Did I forget to install something before I flash them? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
The Legend 1.1 is probably an error from the dev. Mine says the same as well. The kernel name won't change because there isn't a source code for it.
thanks for the reply. i am wondering, how can I get BLN on it then?
You can't. No I897 native GB rom/kernel will be able to use BLN for now. Not until source is released.
thanks for the headup, is there any alternative BLN solution out there? it's kind of sux without the notification mod.
That build id is a line in the build.prop located in /system. You can navigate there with you're favorite root file explore (or open it in your pc) aahs open the build.prop with any text editor.
The line you're looking for is:
ro.build.display.id=(whatever you would like it to say)
I have to say Legend 1.3 does really have long battery life, but too bad it doesn't have BLN support, what can you guys tell me what can i do at this point to make my phone has back light notification?
Flash an I9000 ported ROM. Mosaic is the collective's. The same team that brings you legend. I hear they make good stuff lmao.
But any I9000 ROM should support it.
Then install bln control app. That simple.

Does anyone know if the app "Captivate Keep Alive" is compatible with ICS?
I had been using it, but since I upgraded to ICS, it launches and shows the icon in the status bar, but only shows it initially in running services, then still in status bar, but soon after doesn't show it in running services, no battery drain (apparently it's stopped) and won't close, have to force stop to get it out of the status bar.
Tried to find on the Dev site, App Brain, etc. any documentation, but can't find anything about compatibility with ICS
Unfortunately my phone suffers the random shut downs, especially at high battery levels, when idle.
Thanks
Ive heard of it not working before with ICS based ROMS. But specifically im talking about the Team ICSSGS ROM. So first, you need to tell us what kernel you are running and what ROM. Because I switched to the Glitch new build 2 days ago and have yet to suffer a random shutdown or charge death which I got almost daily with the old build. We will see if this lasts though.

Thanks,
running Doc's Master ICS V5 with the included kernel Glitch V14-B5 Kernel
I also wasn't having any shutdowns, and thought maybe it was solved with this ROM/kernel, but then had an overnight shutdown about a week ago, but still overall probably better, because when I get up in the morning and see that captivate Keep Alive stopped, and battery is at over 80% and didn't shut down, so looking better, except that one shutdown.
Ok, B5 just had a new release a few days ago but for some reason the dev didnt change the title or update the thread. He just made a post about it. I just want to be sure, are you running the kernel I have linked in this post? It was just posted 2 days ago.

Haven't updated to the most recent version, still the version that came with the ROM, which I downloaded maybe 2 weeks ago. Didn't see the kernel was updated, now wondering if I should consider updating the kernel to the newer version, notice he indicates Nandroid backup should work, which is nice.
Edit: not clear if the other version is the right one for my ROM, maybe should stick with the version I have.
Edit 2: I guess that's the only glitch kernel, as you mentioned he hasn't updated the title/name inn a while (on my phone the version from 2 weeks ago shows V5)

I would. Thats the kernel I am running and have found it more stable than the older release. Its a simple download and flash through CWM.
EDIT: If you are currently running ICY Glitch, then an update will not effect anything. If you are currently running another kernel then you will need to check first. Post in the Q and A for your ROM.

Thanks, I'm seeing that, just not as clear without the updates to the version number, etc. Will do.
Hey Guys I got my galaxy note today! it's awesome!!!....but...I immediately tried to check for updates... but after agreeing with the terms and conditions, it says "Registration is failed. Try Again?".
How can I get around this and update my device OTA?
Here's my phone info:
Model: Galaxy Note GT-N7000
Android: 2.3.6
Baseband: N7000XXKK5
Build Number: GINGERBREAD.XXKKA
have you tried installing Kies on your PC, then connecting the Phone via cable so that Kies can update it?
4.0 isn't available through OTA atm so you'd need to do the Kies thing

I'm doing that right now! Thanks! ... I guess my Galaxy Nexus habits are hard to break! LOL!
Sorry to hijack the thread but I also got my G.Note, but yesterday . Got it from Amazon Germany, and as soon as I took it out and connected it to the Wifi Internet it said that it had found the OTA update for the ICS.
I cancelled the update as I was not sure if it was worth it. I hear so many people saying that Gingerbread runs smoothly but that ICS is a pain. I also hear about all the camera bugs, etc that ICS has.
The question I have is: Should I keep with Gingerbread for a while longer or should I just update to ICS?
Thank you all for your advice.

I have tried Criskelo ICS, CM9, Stunner, Liquid Smooth and various GB roms. Even though I like some features of the ICS rom, I eventually settle for Chrack GB rom. It run smooth with good battery life and I have no problem runing all the applications I needs. I suggest that you use your GB rom for awhile before trying to update.

there were several updates to note (at least on mine, Base/Eplus Contract btw)
before ICS, and since ICS is not yet available OTA i think you can hit update on your phone until there are none left, then you should have the most recent Gingerbread version.
for ICS, see last post: Kies update^^
Sadly i already did the Samsung Kies update to ICS and now i have some battery problems (google cloud service and several other Wakelocks draining like a *****)
apart from that little problem ICS is working fine
Hi all and thank you for your input.
As for the last post from Aiphares, I can confirm that there is an OTA update for ICS for my phone.
If I hit update it says that an important 4.0 ROM is available and that it will be 316mb (if I remember it correctly). If I wanted to update now or later.
So I did hit later to see what your replies would be, as I did not want to be one of those asking for help how to revert to gingerbread because my phone could have horrible battery drain, or any other known ICS bug.
I would really like to have a working ICS on my phone, and hopefully something that would improve the S Pen, so that I could actually use it for my daily annotations (minutes of meetings, etc.).
Why can't Android battery just improve, I remember that from Froyo to Gingerbread the battery got much better. Well we can't have it all with these dual cores running in our pockets.
As for the custom ROMs I first want to try the official ones, and if I am am not happy with them, I'll read and read so to prevent triangles and than I'll try a Custom stable ROM.

Please do you people even read this forum?? If i was you and read all the threads about bugs (eMMC) etc. etc. i wanted to wait a bit more. Ok, you just might get lucky (or not) and wipe the phone ten times but if you're not prepare to go to the store and claim your warranty !!!
Please read the topics about bugs on ICS.
becosemsaida
(thanks??)
good to know that there is the OTA update now,
well if you feel uncomfortable you can always wait it out, i'm sure there will be more ICS updates and bugfixes
i was trying to get the above mentioned cyanogen mod onto my phone, but got stuck somewhere along the road. Here are some system specs so someone may have a chance to figure out what it looks like right now.
firmware version: 2.3.6
Base band version: I9000XWJW1
Kernel: [email protected] # 2
Build-Number: Gingerbrad.XWJW6
so much to what the phone itself has to say - heres some info taken from CWM Manager
CWM Manager v2.0
Current Kernel: CF-Root 4.4
oh - and i updated the SuperSU which came along.
has anyone an idea how to proceed from there? i read a lot about getting cyanogen mod - including some mentions that the recent 10.1 build to android 4.2.1 (or was it 4.2.2 ?? ) would work on the i9000 - but i cant figure out what to do from here - i´m getting confused about all the build numbers and so on - it would be nice if someone could point out to me which build numbers and updates to look for exactly.
Thx

CM is a custom ROM for your i9000. You can update your phone with this ROM to enjoy the latest Android OS like 4.0 (IceCream Sandwich), 4.1 & 4.2 (Jelly Bean). Samsung has stopped supporting us with any further updates post 2.3.6 which was Gingerbread Value Pack. If you are interested in flashing you stock ROM to taste new OS, follow this links:
1. Install ICS: Installing Ice-cream Sandwich 4.0.4 On Samsung Galaxy S GT-i9000
2. Install JB: Installing Jelly Bean 4.1 on Galaxy S GT-I9000
ENJOY
my thx to you - finally - an understandable guide!

The recent CM runs on 4.2.2, you can flash the latest nightly from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2039755
thx - that did work as well.
didnt think it was that easy - all the other guides in the net were throwing around lots of strange build numbers and didnt offer much in the way of a guideline - beeing able to rely on you guys for information really saved my day. ^^
Great to hear that you liked the guide and did flash successfully. Hit thanks if that really helped you...
