[Q] On ICS 2231, want to be on 2233 - Motorola Droid Bionic

Sorry, somewhat of a newb question. From what I've read you can't get to 2233 once you're on the first 2231 leak, but couldn't I go back to stock 902, OTA to 905, then move to 2233 that way? Or is there something with the kernel, boot, etc. that won't allow that at this point?
Thanks for any help.

Repercussions of going to .893?

So I rooted, using one click method, backed up stock .886 and installed blurry 2.0, based on .893. I know now that the kernal and radios are changed from .886. Does this render my stock back up of .886 useless? Also, what if the OTA update coming in November is actually different than .893, will I be able to update to what ever that may be?

I would take an educated guess and say yes your 886 backups are trash, but don't take my word on that.
If you made those backups through ROM Manager, you're in luck.

That app can extract apps, contacts, and SMS/MMS from Nandroid backups done through ROM Manager.

Im loving blurry just fine and see no reason to go back, but I just hope I didnt cut off my nose to spite my face in regards to future updates.
So I did a data reset in bootstrap, and reinstalled my stock .886 back up, and it installed fine. Rebooted and everything worked as it should.

If you just install 2.0 over stock, you do not get the .893 radio or kernal. You only get the system. To get the radio and kernal you need to to go back to stock, do the permanent root method, install the cheesecake app, then update to .893 through cheesecake, and then flash 2.0. If at that point you flash .886 again, you would have the .893 radio and kernal, and the .886 system. Because the bootloader is locked, you cannot flash a new kernal or radio via cwm.
Sooooo by flashing blurr3y 2.0 in cwm I never got .893 radio/kernel?

Thanks for putting that guide up Tivo. I figure when the next update comes out, you might have to be back with the .886 and I was wondering whether there was a way to downgrade the radio and kernal to stock after going to .893.

The next update IS 893, I've already gotten confirmation of that.
Rootable?
Tivo, will the new bionics being shipped with .893 be rootable? Will they need to be rolled back per the method you detailed here ?

We will have to wait and see what root methods work after the ota is released. Painfully to wait, I know.

It will revert you back to system 886, but your kernel/radio will stay with whatever update you installed. I currently have a hybrid going on. 5.5.893 system and 5.6.893 kernel.

Upgrade to. 905?

What are the risks involved? I might want to upgrade to Eclipse 3.0, but am concerned about how the unsafe update migbt affect future Verizon OTAs processing.
With the quick avaible way to FXZ your way back to the 902 stock path I would think it would be worth a shot. Check out the link posted below. Currently I think Verzion wouldn't be applying anything soon so there is a great chance to run the leak 905 while you wait for a official update. Had to use this FXZ process just yesturday due to some radio issues with any rom I had on my Bionic. Currently still only Stock and rock solid. Good Luck and let me know how it goes I might jump to the 3.0 update to as long as the Market will fully update to the new Play Store.

At this point, I'd say the risks are pretty much none
another problem is the only ROMs on .905 is Eclipse, so upgrading to that eliminates trying ICS ROMs.
Anyone know when the .905 OTA will start?

It has started already.
I just went to Verizon Support and could not find the 905 update...If I go back to stock, will I get an OTA update??
Will this update brick my rooted phone which currently has version 902 on it?
Is it possible to upgrade from 904? Flashing the zip through stock recovery hasn't worked for me. Keep getting an error message.

It's not possible to go from .904 to .905. The update.zip for .905 looks for system files from .902 before doing anything. It's supposed to fail for you until you FXZ back to .902

It shouldn't brick, but you may lose root. Also if you've frozen and/or removed bloatware the update will fail.

I was surprised at how well ICS ROMs played with my phone when I was on .904. It may be worth it to try on .905 too. Even then, the devs will probably make updates soon to accommodate the new kernel in .905.

OTA updates are made for stock phones. The .905 update only updates phones that are running completely stock .902 phones. The OTA updates fail on anything that is not stock. OTA updates are built to expect a certain existing revision of the software. If that is not present, the update will fail. You must revert to stock 5.9.902 if you want .905 to install.
I, too, am getting an error msg about the xml not being correct, or I am missing certain image files. I haven't removed any of the bloatware.
I had 902. Rooted and ROM'd with Eclipse 2.2. Installed CoreDroid_Eclipse_2.2. Curious, will Core Droid not work with Eclipse 3.0?? (IF I ever get the 902 stock again...)

Help with going back to stock or newer version of ICS after .2231 install

I recently downloaded and installed ICS 6.7.2231 from my SD on my Bionic and everything went flawlessly. Was wondering if there if there is a way to go back to stock .902 or .905 GB, and how can I put a newer version of ICS on my Bionic without screwing it up. I am fairly computer and phone knowledgable but am a little new to flashing and installing from SD, and not completely sure what FXZ is or how to do it.
Thanks for your help:fingers-crossed:

There are several good links all over this forum with detailed instruction is on how to fxz your Bionic back to 902. That is what you will need to do, then you Cancun update to 905 again and flash 232 in stock recovery if you would like.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1729929
That link has all the files you need to FXZ back to 902 and update to 905. Then you can just follow the steps and replace that leak file and use which ever you like.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1507798
That link has step by step instructions on how to fxz your phone. Both of those link were found on these forums, just search a bit next time and you will find your answers.

Order of install for ICS Leaks???

I have been on the .2233 ICS Leak for a couple of weeks now and it is pretty good but wanted to get up to .232 now (I know, stay away from .235)
However I went to flash the .232 and I got an error - do I need to do this in order .2233 then .229 and so on??
I am rooted, any other details?

No, you can only install the leaks from .905. See this thread for a way of downgrading to .905 so you can install the new leak without loss of data.
http://www.droidforums.net/forum/motorola-droid-bionic/214902-downgrade-902-no-app-data-loss.html
You can also use my upgrade guide HERE. This WILL delete all your user data though, which in my opinion is the better way to do it so you have a clean system once you get to .232 - nothing lingering around from and old setup. All you have to do is backup files first to your SD card, if they are not already on there.

[Q] Getting from an early ICS leak ROM to the JB OTA?

Hi guys, my mom has the Droid 4. I initially put her on the ICS leak 6.16.208 when it first came out. When the official ICS release (I think it was .219 or something) came out in August, since the .208 leak was working fine for her, I just left her phone alone. Now I see that there's finally a JB update for the Droid 4, and I'm wondering what would be a safe way to get from the ICS leak to the JB OTA.
Would I have to get from the ICS leak to the final version of ICS first, and then update to JB? Or is there another way to go about this? I apologize for asking; I've tried to research this on my own and I just find a clutter of threads that never really seem to talk about how to get off a leaked build.
I have Safestrap Recovery v2.0.0 installed. The unsafe system is the .208 leak, and the safe system is a custom ROM she didn't end up liking (a rather buggy AOKP port), so she just runs the .208 leak all the time.
Would anyone have any insight as to how I could proceed to ultimately get onto the JB OTA? If someone could just point me in the right direction, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks in advance.
I'd probably use the Fastboot/RSD Lite method to flash the release version of ICS, and then update to JB from there. My Droid 4 on GSM thread includes a section on how to flash ICS via Fastboot.
Hopefully we'll eventually get Fastboot files to go straight to JB, but I haven't seen them yet.

Thank you so much for your fast response and for writing this guide.
So from what I understand, just fastboot to the OTA ICS and then I can get to the JB OTA from there with the update.zip, right? Will fastboot wipe my data?
Also, is that "Upgrading to Jelly Bean" going to take me to the actual official JB OTA (not a leak)? Because it looks like the link lets you download 6.16.217 which I believe is the finalized JB OTA, correct? If so, that's very exciting. I was anticipating that I would have to wait for Verizon to actually push the JB OTA to me.
Once again, thanks a lot!
This is currently a "soak test". There is a chance that problems could be found with it, though with all the previous soak tests, the official version has followed a few days later and been exactly the same.
If you want to be really sure, you should wait until someone confirms that the two are the same.
Unfortunately I cannot remember if fastboot wipes your data as I tend to wipe my data after an upgrade anyway. If you're rooted I'd suggest you run Titanium Backup to be sure.
I'll use TiBu just to be sure. I actually just read an article that the JB OTA is currently rolling out, so I guess this should be the final version. Thanks for the help!
