Just flashed 2233, and interestingly I was able to uninstall Blockbuster, GoToMeeting, Let's Golf, and ZumoCast. Other apps like Slacker, Slingbox, and the Verizon apps are still there unfortunately.
Yeah I noticed that as well. It's a start though lol.

At least you can freeze some of the bloat once you remove the updates.
Anything (almost anything) that can't be uninstalled can simply be un-updated and disabled, no need to root.

You can't even uninstall them when rooted been there tried that.
even though you can uninstall them would it cause OTAs to fail when it checks for you bloatwares? Typically I just use TiBu and freeze them. I've been doing that since we still have locked bootloaders. I miss how easy it was to load different kernels/radios/roms on my OG Droid. Although I am happy that ICS is finally here and am rocking the latest leak. I just hope we don't run into issues with going off the path like in previous GB builds.
You can still FXZ like before though. I had the first leak (2211 I think? Something like that) and I just FXZ'd back to 902 and did a battery pull during boot, rebooted to stock recovery, installed 905 update, then without rebooting, began flashing 2233. Such a crazy process to go through for minor updates, but most of the people on the ICS leak are on 2233, so I figured I'd jump on the bandwagon. Keep your fingers crossed that my battery will hold out through 2 flashes lol.

Anyone having problems freezing apps via TiBu? I noticed that when I long press the file, the option to freeze is no longer there -- just uninstall.

I have frozen tons of apps using Titanium... Basically running clean ICS on my Bionic... So far no issues at all! have scripts running and everything. the battery surprisingly lasts all day too
ICS allows you to disable any apps so they don't show up in the app drawer, no magic or TB freezing required. By disabling instead of freezing you shouldn't have any issues taking OTAs either so it's the best of both worlds.
Anyone having speaker issuses when it doesnt i just reboot my phone just wondering

Is it crackiling when you play music. There are options in the sound profiles to shot off the boost options they have installed. Shut those off and see if it fixes anything.

Ok so after months of trying to figure out how to get facebook and twitter for lg off of this phone, I figured it out. My revo is rooted and I have cwm with the decrapped rom from thecubed. The actual apk file is called sns.apk (short for social networking service). I backed it up, then froze the app using titanium backup. Voila! No more facebook or twitter for lg. I don't know if anyone else has figured this out, but I thought I would share
SWEETTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Most Excellent find. This should go in the list of useful apps to freeze. Great!!
Any non-rooted solutions??

I really doubt it, but is there a way to remove or freeze apps if your phone isn't rooted? Also, can't you just uninstall the apps instead freezing them? Or does that cause a problem somehow?
Thanks! I was wondering what SNS was...frozen now!

You can uninstall them.. but freezing to me is better.. if we do get the gingerbread update and you are still pretty stock with some frozen apps, you can un freeze and then do the update and you should be fine.. much easier than uninstalling the app and then having to reinstall them.
I noticed after reflashing decrapped 1.1 the facebook for lg icon came back and it also showed up as an option for sharing a pic. I looked in titanium backup and it said it was still frozen, when I hit unfreeze it said apk file not found, so I hit uninstall. That was successful, then I flashed mtmichaelsons revolt rom and since he hasnt gotten bluetooth working on it I reflashed again back to decrap 1.1. The icons came back and I went to tibu again. I hit restore and it said it was successful, but then the icons disappeared. I don't really care if this program is deleted permanently from the phone, but I am wondering why it keeps popping up like that and why it's acting like that in tibu. Not a major issue for me, just odd
would it be wise to compile a list of the bloatware that we should and should not kill, now that we have root? Also, perhaps the best method to deal with it (Freeze, rename, or outright delete)
Here's what I've successfully removed without any problems so far:
Apps 1.02.16
Backup Assistant 2.3.4
Backup Assistant Client 1.0
Blockbuster 0.8
Citrix Receiver 2.1.1059
Ctiy ID 1.1.7

I just uninstalled them all with Titanium Backup. I've restarted the phone a couple times since and had no noticeable issues.

What type of updates? I made backups of everything first so I can go back and restore everything and freeze it instead... I don't know if I want to though as everything seems good so far.

i see no one has listed DLNA as a safe to freeze. I know it is constantly running on my D3 and am wondering if its safe to freeze or not.
Even after freezing DLNA, like a couple other apps like Task Manager and Voice Commands, it still seemed to stay resident. After doing an actual uninstall and reboot, I was good. (I did get an infinite force close loop, thus requiring the reboot. I seemed to be able to hold the power button and tap the force close then the shutdown item fast enough to avoid needing a battery pull.)
I agree we shouldn't have multiple threads for the same topic. I think we should take further discussion over to the more trafficked one:

Agreed... we should move this over to the other thread.... can one of the mods close this down?
Can anyone upload backups for these files for those of us (ahem) who went a little gung-ho on deleting apps instead of freezing? (meh bad).

O.K. Wearing my tinfoil hat. Looked and couldn't find the processes that might operate this rootkit on my Bionic, but I really can't be certain what I am looking for.
The HTC versions were IQAgent and IQRD. Nothing similar that I have found, but I'll bet they are there somewhere.
Anyone found anything?

I've heard that it could be disguised as Contacts Sync and ContactsData. They have the same icon (although that doesn't mean much).
I haven't been able to determine if its the same thing or not.
Anyone able to confirm that the Bionic is CarrierIQ free?
I tried the Logging test tool, but if they renamed the app it won't work.
Either way, this thing is going to cause such a lawsuit with huge repercussion. (which they deserve)

Likewise, I ran the "CIQ Checks" test in the "Logging Test App" by xda member TrevE mentioned in this article as a reliable way of testing for the presence of CIQ: http://lifehacker.com/5863895/carri...everything-on-your-phone-and-how-to-remove-it The test completed running and nothing showed up in the "CIQ File List" so I'm assuming the Bionic is clean.
I don't think the Contacts Sync and ContactsData icons are a reliable way to test for CIQ. Found this on another site: "The icon is a default icon, not specific to Carrier IQ. It can't help you determine whether or not CIQ is present."
After all the latest news about the rootkit that is allowing apps to bypass requests and can track what you're doing on the phone, I have found that particular app on our Bionics.
First, read this article:
http://www.helloandroid.com/content/are-carriers-illegally-tapping-your-android-phone
Next, go to settings, applications, manage applications, all applications tab, and look for the Fake Blur app. I am rooted and rommed and noticed that I still have this app. Is it something that we should be worried about? Has anyone tried uninstalling it and seeing if the phone still works without it?
Well, for whatever it's worth:
http://www.theverge.com/2011/12/1/2602532/verizon-carrier-iq-denial
So that would seem to strongly support the idea that the Bionic lacks CIQ.

It's present in Shifter rom also. I was going to uninstall it using TB, but it seems like it might stop something from working, because when I attempted to force stop the application and went back to my homescreens, it was like I had just turned the phone on and they were sluggish.

I froze it with titanium a few hours ago and hadn't had any issues or FC's yet. I'm running Purity.
so like always I get my phone from verizon and there are just LOADS of apps that I don't want and will never use. the first thing I usually do is download my browser of choice (xscope) and then I will go into an application and click a link or an ad. you are prompted with a dialogue of which of the browsers you want to use to open I chose xscope and tick the box that says use this as default. I am then safe to un install the stock browser and not run into any problems. I also took out the ones I knew wouldn't interfere with anything like netflix, blockbuster, pre loaded game demos.
my question is , is it safe to remove these moto blur applications, I never use facebook on my phone, I don't twitter...they're wasting space and I'd rather just get rid of them, but my last phone was the moto droid 1 and it didn't have any of this blur bull****.
so are there any complications if I remove my facebook or twitter apps then I click someones facebook link and my phone explodes because it cant find the moto blur app? Also can I get rid of the backup stuff...and Im not sure why...but Gallery has been replaced with 'my pictures' and it has that ****ing red thing on the top which indicates it will upload these to my verizon account....uhhh no thank you....do I have to keep this or can I just install an old gallery and make that default?
I wouldn't remove them, just freeze them. Titanium backup pro is a great tool and really worth the money. There's a lot of apps that can be frozen and not cause issues, check the Android development for the Droid 4, there's a thread about which apps you can freeze. Removing them can cause instability with the phone, and no sbf files have been released

Can't I just unroot it? I know none of the retards at the store will be able to tell the difference...but I figured I would use the Droid 4 Utilities seen here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1492843 and just unroot it and give it back? you think it will work?
Hey guys,
So after rooting my Droid 3, I sort of went nuts with Titanium freezing thing. I froze ~everything that looked even REMOTELY Motorola/Verizon.
A side effect of this is that I seem to have broken the Google Apps Calendar Sync. When I go to Accounts > Google, I no longer have "Sync Calendar", I have Sync com.android.calendar. It indicates "Sync is currently having problems. It will be back shortly." Of course, it doesn't ever come back.
What have I frozen/removed that would cause this, and is there an easy way to get my Google Calendar sync back?
THANKS!!
PS. My God this thing works 1000x better with out the bloatware!
Freezing apps is so 2011.
Just use a debloated ROM, or even use the debloat script (which is also outdated but not as outdated as freezing with tibu )
Yeah, I tried to use the bloat script but just couldn't get it to go. It kept crashing after the first couple of steps, so I went the Titanium Route.
I'm anxiously awaiting a Beta of the JB ROM, then I'm definitely going that route, but in the meantime, I need to figure out what I did!

I'm not even sure if the script still works (dont see why not but still).
I'd just install safestrap and get yourself mavrom or eclipse or w/e :good: . Even better than stock rom without bloat
Mavrom:
www.droidforums.net/forum/maverick-rom-d3/217062-maverick-rom-droid-3-mavrom-v4-5-a.html
Eclipse:
http://www.droidforums.net/forum/teamhaters/210971-eclipse-v3-0-droid-3-port.html
I will check that out.
Other than installing a new ROM, do you have any idea how I could fix the calendar sync?

If you really want to stay with your method.. I seem to recall others having calander problems after freezing some apks like yahoomessaging or socialmessaging or whatever in one of the older de-bloat topics. You might try and search for it (calender)
Double,
Thanks for the tip, you put me on the right track. It had been covered-ish in the Bloat Removal Script thread.
In case anyone else has this problem, I had to take Root Explorer and restore (rename the .bak) of the following files:
BlurCalendarProvider.apk
BlurCalendarProvider.odex
CalendarSync.apk
CalendarSync.odex
After I did that, the sync worked as expected.
Thanks for the help!!
