[Q] Is there any way to stop my Note getting too hot!! - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey, When I use my galaxy note with games or web browsing, it gets really hot, this is worrying. Im running Kingdroid notemainia v3.0 with Franco Kernel. I know that some combinations of roms and kernels can reduce the CPU heat. Any suggestions please?

Best solution is not to worry - it's quite normal.
Sent from my GT-N7000

Thanks for your reply, everyone says that but last night it got seriously hot, although I had just flashed a new rom, is it still nothing to worry about? My main concern is internal cosmetic damage.

Thats clever, So as the battery gets hotter and hotter the CPU slows down ? To prevent extreme overheating ?
Think I might give that a try ! Mine does get hot.........But i do abuse it !

With cpu this fast, battery which is big and a screen to match, do expect it to be cold?
How hot is hot for you?
Zapped through server hops to XDA forums

mine reached 57c 2 days ago ... it's summer here and this started to make me worry
can SetCPU work with rooted GB Note (no custom kernels just using Chainfire's Kernel) ?

So long as your rooted it will work, However Overclocking wont work unless the kernel supports it.

I recommend undervolting or changing modems.
I did both and it solved my problem of heating up. Now I can do anything, heat isn't a problem for me anymore.
Hope this helps someone, anyone and everyone

I'm kinda new to installing roms and the rest of it, how can I undervolt and change modems, is there any recommendations for this?

Changing modems is straight forward, however because not all devices are specifically built the same, undervolting is a matter of trial and error.
Are you rooted? Stock rom or custom rom?
Hope this helps someone, anyone and everyone

Yes I'm rooted and running rocket rom v6. Thanks

Here you go mate, I take it that you know how to flash since you're on a custom rom.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1645202
You have a lot to choose from the list of modems. Trial and error, check which one delivers good performance yet battery friendly for you as it varies from place to place.
Hope this helps someone, anyone and everyone

Regarding undervolting, I'll leave that for now as it's more advanced and could cause damage if not done correctly.
Before proceeding with modem flash, please backup your efs folder or simply get an app from playstore to do it for you. If I remember correctly, it's call efs backup.
Hope this helps someone, anyone and everyone

Thanks bro, ill give it a shot

I too had the similar issue with the Galaxy Note. It is quite common while doing CPU/GPU intensive things such as gaming, rendering web pages, etc. I had called up Samsung recently regarding when i had recently got my Note and they responded by saying "Its noting to get too worried about as it is common for this model to get heated due to the fast processor and thin body"

Like I have mentioned earlier, I used to have the same issue. Changing my modem had helped it keep cool on hspa+ while still performing great. I also undervolted cpu and gpu to help save battery life, I never noticed the heat after that. I was surprised about this due to the fact that I hadn't underclocked the cpu. So I'm getting full performance and great battery life. Couldn't be more happier
Hope this helps someone, anyone and everyone

Shadyr25, could you link me to a modem I could use? I'm on Stock GB, rooted
Thanks!

Sure mate, here you go
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1645202
There is no best modems, what it really depends on is the area you're in and which network you're with, through trial and error you have to find the one that best suits you. You may find some to perform extremely well whilst it's not battery friendly, some maybe to your likening where it would perform well whilst being battery friendly and last may perform poor whilst being extremely battery friendly.
There are some marked known to be good modems in the link I've provided, try them and if not your liking try the others on the list
Hope this helps someone, anyone and everyone

Attached screen shot.
Thought id check this out just to see what happens. It actually does appear to overclock and make real changes phone seems much snappier like it was with eclair and my voodoo over clock kernel then i thought i perform a quadrant. Some serious increases in framerates after setting overclock to 1.3 gigaouches. And has a much higher score, seems to transfer to real world performance.
Here is a before and after screen shot one at stock 1 gighertz voodoo
The next at 1.3 gigeherts voodoo. Both superclean 2.9.2 ec10 kernel.
I also added a widget to my sccreen to see if it really does say its at 1.3 gigaherts and it does. Phone seems stable and not acting weird at all. Will probably keep using

its neat but not ideal
for those that care about oc...true 2.2 kernels im sure can be pushed farther than this and 2.1....1.4 appears stable on other sgs variants
This would probably suffice until some real optimzed OCed 2.2 kernels start coming out.

What he said. I like this app though even though mine works great all the way up. For someone who can't run that fast if the phone were to lock. When it reboots its back to stock. Fail safe. Not a pain to reactivate either.

What makes you cautious? Before any hardware gets messed up the phone will lock up and/or reboot then you'll be at stock speeds again. Although I haven't had any issues.
Wow. Real noticeable difference here. easy to use. Tried the 1.3 but the phone would freeze. 1.25 did thee trick for me. It sets back to default after every boot too which is pretty cool.

Why? Nothing to be scared of. I can vouch it works well my friend and not only is it zippy (on whatever setting u have it on), it also resets to default after each boot. No worries!
I know quadrents are so so and not accurate on performance, but I get higher readings on 1.5 rather than 2.0. Always score in 1900s on 1.5 and 1600 on 2.0.
actually don't like this feature...

title says it all I noticed a nice difference in real world performance as well as every type of quadrant-like program you could use to score your speed but I wish that it would start on boot so if I need to restart my phone for whatever reason I don't have to go back in and reset everything.. really really want auto boot for this.

[KERNEL][CM7/OMFGB/MIUI]Immortality-CM[8/31]

Yeah, i'm back, and this time i'm bringing Immortality-CM with me. Better performance, and maybe better battery life than its little froyo brother. As always:

NOTES:
1. The cleaning script is integrated into the flash package, so it will clean before the kernel actually flashes, once its done and you reboot, it will take a little while longer to reboot since the dalvik-cache is wiped.
2. It is safe to use a screen off profile with 400/100 setting, but i do not recommend it.
3. The splash screen is the same skull from my froyo kernel, but it has "CM" on it. If you dont like skulls or my splash in general, plz use another kernel. And NO, i won't change or make another version of it, so plz don't ask.
4. My beta tester, Skitz, has reported low quad scores with this. If you are a person concerned with benchmark scores, then this isnt for you. Quads don't make the kernel, the performance does.
5. I am running OMFGB so i know this will work on that and regular CM7, i hear that CM7 kernels also work on MIUI, but i have not personally tested it on it.
Known issues:
1. May hang on kernel splash for a while, if it exceeds more than 3 mins, pull battery and put it back in and boot normally.
2. You may have to re-enter Gmail credentials, i think this is because of the cleaning script, but i'll look into fixing it.
All my kernels will be hosted from Google Code, so you can download here

No dice, same as all other gb kernels. it went as high as 4186 then dropped down a few mv, and charging completed. In froyo I'd get to 4240's.
Could it just be the way the mv is measured in froyo vs gingerbread, or maybe the calculation against it?

I just switched over to immortality from glitch v12. So far, I am really impressed. Everything runs very smoothly and without any real lagging.
There is one thing however that is really really odd....when playing videos, when the video finishes buffering and is about to begin playing, I get the, "cannot play ths video" message, and it closes. As far as I know, this shouldn't have anything to do with your kernel...but videos worked fine before flashing over to immortality...so I'm stumped, any ideas?
Either way, great work. Top notch job, as always!

[Q] ; Advise for buy a Notes.

Hello
I am currently using a galaxy s and a xperia pro.. Now I am thinking about selling these and buy a galaxy notes instead.
Is it a good idea? Is Notes a stable phone and not full with bugs?
I am hoping it would be an upgrade for me or is the difference not so big?
Regards

I would say that it will probably be a huge difference (pun intended) if you decide to get the Note. I would recommend that you go to a store with a live demo unit and try the size out, it is not for everyone. But I would say the Note is a stable phone.
I gave my SGS up for the note, and i love it..

from my experience, its an amazing phone. best one i ever had so far.
people say its huge and how can I carry it - but frankly it no problem at all. in the begining i was using the bluetooth but not any more.
the only thing i am not happy about is battery life - for now i keep the 3g/wirelss turned off to prolong the battery life. I havent had time to try different roms yet but I am hoping to get on one of the custom rom soon and believe this will improve the bat life also.
oh by the way the stock rom is very stable. i havent had any issue so far with anything.

pretty much OT here, but: You should think about getting a custom ROM. I´m on Rocket V.22 and my phone lasts more than 2 days with wifi ON and moderate usage. Kind of a miracle^^
yeah am in middle of rocket or darky; have to try them both to decided which 1 to stick to. have you tried darky ? lots of good reviews abt it too.
if the battery last for 2 days on moderate use then it sure is miracle .
i will try to flash the rom this Friday and see how it goes.
I lost my SGS and got the Notes. You will soon get used to the big screen and everything else seems so small after that. I was also having stable CM9 from teamhacksung on SGS. That's the only two draw back I can think of.

KQ7, KQB Wi-Fi Dropouts problem

Stop moving my thread on to i9000 general because nobody will notice it there.
And it's a development problem anyway since we were talking about kernels and undervolting. As you can already see, the topic is on page 2 already.
Isn't it enough that you will not make us a special forum category ? now you're trying to **** us up even more ? isn't it enough that samsung ****s us up every single time with every rom they launch, do you need to do it aswell ? stop moving my thread over there.
Now, getting back ontopic, how do i remove the undervolt from skyhigh kernel if that's what causes the problems ?

I noticed that the battery was really really bad in this rom.
I was just wondering what is a good stable rom that is battery friendly. I'm not really a gamer so i don't need to worry about maxing out my specs.
Also I understand that there is no best rom I am just looking for the views of other people.
And a recommendation in kernel would be nice too.

test test test and retest Oh and some battery logs would be nice to just say you had bad battery tells us nothing
I use Android Revolution 11.5 with ElementalX kernel.
I lost 1% battery over night. Battery lasts about 30 hours with my usage profile. Give it a try...

I use ViperOne 1.1.1 with Bulletproof Kernel (HTC Battery Saver On).
Battery life is amazing. Can usw my One about two days until i have to charge it.:good:
One more vote for ARHD, really awesome battery life. Currently I'm running TrickDroid 8.0 and overnight I lost 11% while on ARHD it was 2% only. Plus, on TD8 I feel some nasty scrolling lag.
You realise that this thread will just end up a long list of different rom/kernel combinations? Which emphasises the fact that different people will recommend different combinations depending on their usage. The only way to know for yourself is to test them yourself - I know you will read that everywhere, but only because it's true.

Maybe give 'greenify' a try independent of ROM.

When I received my one via ups I was so excited I turned it right on and activated it was that a bad idea? Should I had charged it first before turning on? I allowed it to die completely before the first charge my battery is alright I'm just wondering should I be getting better results? Also my phone shuts down on random and I have to hold volume down and power to reboot doesn't even go to bootloader. So I ran a ruu and now on complete stock to see if the issue goes away. I was also s off with revone I reverted back to s on before the ruu though I'm wondering is the shutting down have to do with me not charging and damaging the battery, the s off, or hardware. I'm hoping it was just a bad root so I dont have to swap phones anyone have any ideas?

I think we all understand it's best to find out for your self what the BEST ROM/KERNEL is. I think that some of of just like to see what everybody is using and how it is working for them in real world. I hate how alot of people in these threads are so reluctant to give out any info on what they are personally using.
