[Q] Bell XT860 stock recovery - Motorola Droid 3

I would have posted this question in response to these instructions, however I'm still a noob on these forums, and haven't met my 10 post quota yet.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1255198
My question is will this recovery method work for Bell Canada users, or will it only function for Verizon users?
I've installed AOKP a few months back, and while I enjoy it, I've lost support for some key features; namely HDMI, which is disappointing. When I tried recovering to the stock rom to hold me over until some new features and revisions show up on the mod scene, I found out my system backup was corrupt.
I have found a few downloads to system images, however every one I have found link to files that are now taken down. Can someone upload a current system dump?

I can set you up when I get home later

What would happen if I flashed the Bell firmware to a Verizon Droid3?
Will it change the radio.img
Will I have to unlock it again?
Will everything still work?
I am using 5.7.906.xt852

I'm really eager to find out. Worst case, you could always just flash the bell XT860 radio afterwards and see what happens!

I am way too new at this to try experimenting with untried solutions
I just barely figured out how to root my ph. Still working on how to flash.
Is it the same as installing a ROM?

No, you have to completely reflash your device and will have to re-root it. I think you should give it a go though
You'll need to download RSD Lite and download the XT860 Bell SBF files (they are about 500mb to download). Also make sure you FULLY CHARGE your phone, just in case you run into any issues. I think you can find an SBF how-to doc in the development forums. Please keep us posted.
Are you on Verizon? Because if you and this works, you probably won't be able to use it with them anymore.

Nope, I am on PCMobile without a data plan, use wifi.
I think maybe I'll try a Rom first.

The only hope you have is early usb enumeration, adb being enabled, and then hoping that psneuter still works. If you can escalate to root, you should be able to push the deodex files from the stock Bell firmware and recover the device.
Also, this isn't a development question. Can we get moved to the right section?

I was gonna read the instructions... but then I got high...
When it's trying to boot, with a USB cable connected, do you have ADB access? If not, I think your only hope would be to wait for a Bell Atrix SBF file, or return it to the store for exchange. Play dumb, maybe they will believe that you don't know how it happened...

A Bell service center would be able to do it for sure, but probably for a fee. If you don't have the option to exchange it, and you have to send it away they might charge to re-flash it.
If you go in there, see if they will give you a copy of the 0.37 Bell SBF file.

i KNOW that 1.26 was leaked. However, 1.52 was released OTA, i'm not sure if the sbf was then released or if someone just got their hands on it and leaked it
You can also flash the telstra sbf. I've done that and it works (eventually a bell sbf will come out and you'll be able to flash that one).
Did you do a nandroid backup first?
I just need to figure out to do a nand backup and i will flash the crap out of the telstra sbf!!!

yes, doing that nand backup is a very good idea (then backing it up on to your PC's HD) before flashing the sbf.
in the case of an actual Bell sbf coming out eventually (god knows when, stupid bell) restoring the nandroid may help if anyone runs into problems with passing any system checks (can't really tell how intense they'll be at this point, and what might make them fail)
to make the nandroid backup just boot into tenfar's, choose "backup/restore" and nand backup should be one of the options.

ok cool. So then at this point in time ( without the bell sbf ) If i ran a nand backup with tenfar's, and then tried to flash the Telstra SBF and then something went wrong, i could just revert back with the nand backup?
Sorry, just learning about the after-market with motorola, Atrix being my first moto phone.
Was with HTC Hero before and things are a bit different.
cheers

The biggest thing that can go wrong with the sbf is that it doesn't work, other than that if there's hardware issues and you have to return the phone, I'm not exactly sure how deep the nand restore works. whether it'll change firmware version on your device or not (maybe someone who has done this themselves could chime in here to clarify)

Alright, well could the same be done for just flashing the telstra radio, to unlock the hsupa? Use tenfar's , nand, then flash the radio?

I need of help!!!!!

I was taking it upon myself to get the cricKet software working on a Sprint Zio, and made the mistake of trying to flash a custom recovery.
So of course, it turned up a brick (bootloop), and I am in need of a flashable recovery image through fastboot, or possibly a stock upgrade software like that cricKet Froyo pack.
If anyone can help me, or has any other possible solutions, I'd VERY much appreciate it!!
Have you even tried searching for the stock sprint rom that's already been posted in its own thread in this section?

Dont try to use any thing for the Cricket Zio on the Sprint Zio it will end badly every time. Below is the link that will direct you to the rom you need to flash to get your phone functional again.

Yea I knew about that thread, but the link is down (has been for more than a few days now), and someone else was stating it was a no good backup.
Can anyone possibly re-up the link so I can possibly give it a shot?
I have just updated the thread with working system, recovery and boot images for the Sprint 2.2 ZIO

Returning Droid to current stock (verizon)

Hi All,
My droid stopped making and receiving calls, and 3g is usually out. Tried a bunch of different roms including going back to one I know it was always working with, so I don't think it's a software issue.
I also upgraded to basebane C_01.43.01P and that didn't help either. I found a thread on here about returning to stock for the milestone, but I couldn't find info on what I'd need to do so for a droid on verizon.
Any pointers would be great. Ideally, I'd like to do it on linux (as it's all I've got), but from what I've read it seems windows is required.
Cheers,
Alan.
its the same process for the droid as for the milestone. get the original sbf and flash it with RSDlite.
Thanks Daria. Where can I find the original sbf and the current stock rom? Google hasn't been my friend with the rom, I've not yet tried googling for the sbf.
Thanks,
Alan.

Thanks An email to vzw got things fixed, so I haven't needed to downgrade yet, but I've got it ready to verify it's not a rom issue.
The page won't load for me... I'm trying to reach the Milestone archive. Is there any mirror available?
Thanks.

Thanks, looks like I wasn't the only one. I ended up doing the update thru Motorola's updater...
And I now have a nice 599$ brick.
Fvck.
what happened?
What's your phone model?
A853 (Telus Canada).
It updated successfully, at the end of the process it asked me to unplug, reboot, replug.
So I unplugged it, and from now on... nothing. Power button doesn't do anything, and plugging it doesn't either.
If you are talking about Motorola software update, you don't need to manually reboot. It should reboot on its own. I don't know what went wrong there.
I dont have a telus sbf, but i have a SEA sbf. You can flash that and use OR to apply telus baseband to get your 3g working. Interested?
I never had to uplug it before, but it had been stuck on the Motorola logo for 25 minutes... a couple minutes is usual after an update, 25 isn't.
I'd like to be able to flash it, however now it just won't power up. Power button doesn't do anything, and same for plugging it.
(OP, sorry for the hijack, considering it's solved I hope you don't mind...)
Remove battery. Plugin phone to charger without battery. Does it show battery icon with ? in the middle?
No, nothing...

Little help

greetings,
I had the brilliant idea of flashing my droid 3, but now I'm stuck on a black screen:
AP Fastboot Flash Mode (S) (Flash Failure)
0A.40
Battery OK
OK to Program
Connect USB
Data Cable
I used RSD Lite to flash, but it just shows
Failed flashing process. 1/18 (...) result FAIL
I'm trying to update with CW, but it stuck after the 'press menu' page
someone knows how to unbrick my phone?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1336980
if youre trying to update through CW, you shouldnt need to use RSD. Since you have used RSD, you need to make sure you have the correct SBF. Im not sure if the Milestone 3/??Model# has an SBF! You will need to sbf (with RSD) and (probably) clear cache (through recovery m+power)
thank U vry much!
giving a try
as soon I get some results, I'll post here

oh..you have the XT860? In this topic http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=19784171 they're saying you can make nandroid backups now...I guess you didn't?
I'm not really up to date with XT860 news (there's still no subforum) but you could try flash the http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1288823.
I don't know if there's an official SBF for XT860 yet
when i saw the flag in your profile, i figured you werent using our XT862. I did a couple searches but didnt come up with anything but a system dump
I did...
bot even the backup stuck....
when I boot with + and - volume buttons pressed, I can navigate to 'Normal Powerup'
then appears the CW window, where I made the backup, but when I try to restore and reboot, it keeps stucking....

check out this thread, not just post 81. this guy said he tried flashing the xt862 rom to his xt860 and bricked like you. ive never had to fastboot the /preinstall partition (??), but you may find more information if you dig a little deeper. hope that helps
guys,
my greatest THANKS!
after this little time and this little help I can yell:
IT'S ALIVE!! \o/
I almost lost (another) mobile on flash (frist a Motorola v360, then a Palm Treo Pro 850)
on other hand.... it's on CHINESE!!!
but I think I can handle that..... or at least try to....
awesome. i was worried because motorola marketed two phones as the XT860, which is Bell Canada, and Vivo Brazil. everything ive checked out was for the Bell version (even though they could be the exact same base)
now, I'll try to root again, install CW and restore my backup...
wish me luck =P
thinking better....
this whole confusion started because my droid was too slow.... (I guess it's because motoblur) and restore the backup will only help to mess up with my head again
If you're on the me863 rom now thenone click root won't work, there is a link to a working root method in the me863 thread in the Droid 3 android dev forum

droid 3 radio issue

Ok I've become highly frustrated can anyone help me on this one? Droid 3 stock was working fine and all of a sudden no service what so ever. Can only connect via wifi. I've done: *228 (doesn't work no service), ## program (didn't work somehow my spc password has changed tried all vzw told me to try), tried factory reset (still didn't work), tried rooting phone cwm boot strapper etc (still no radio) even tried the stock flash from other threads where these phones have had this issue. (Still not working) I even tried cdma workdhop to read the memory to find the spc pw and the file said that the txt file did not exist. What's left to do? Pull the trigger? Really could use some help.... thanks!
By stock flash do you mean sbf via rsdlite or motofastboot. If you've flashed stock firmware and still have issues I would suspect it's a hardware issue

Try toggling through Global/CDMA/GSM modes and end on CDMA (if you use Verizon). I sometimes have this issue, though usually after flashing a radio. Also if you SBF, remember to wipe data/cache. If you want it, I can upload the stock 890 radio and you can flash with moto-fastboot. The 890 radio DOES work with 906 system, I switch between the 890 and XT883 radio for CDMA/GSM.
Motofastboot and rsdlite are just 2 different ways of flashing firmware. Rsdlite is more user friendly and automated whereas motofastboot is a command line utility that allows you to flash single partitions instead of the whole device. Ovelayers tool uses motofastboot and a script I believe
