Nova and Apex lauchers "FCs" on custom ICS roms - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there,
I've got a small problem concerning Nova and Apex launchers on various custom ICS roms (i.e. Cassie's XtraLiteRom ICS Version 4 or Modded Lite AlBa LQ3 Final Stage). It's weird, because they don't "normally" FC, instead they freeze (in the same manner) for a while with black screen (notification bar still working) or with the frozen picture of app I currently use. It happens mostly when I try to go back to the main screen, either via "back" or "home" button.
Can anyone help me with this matter? Thanks in advance!

[Q] Best Gingerbread rom for SGS i9000

greetings,
sorry for this general question
but I am lost between a lot of gingerbread roms available for the SGS
what is the most stable gingerbread rom that supports Arabic & has all major features working ?
thanks a lot,
Ahmed
Simply honey 3.2
Juwe's ROM 4.2
Although it's merely a matter of personal preference, you'll find many people here try many a ROM but do always go back to one, and in the process become quite loyalist (not a criticism because I am the same) :3
Testing the Ginger Criskelo Rom v45 on GB 2.3.3 after testing Darky's ROM v10 RC5 and stock JVB with different Kernels
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=978354
Advantages:
it is deodexed, zipaligned and rootet, was very simple to install via CWM3, flashing ROM from SD-Card even on a non-deodexed SGS I.
works perfect for me, is fast, smooth, has a nice look with glassy notification bar and dial-screen and seems to be very stable.
Disadvantages:
Has just 3 minor bugs (email.apk needs to be set back to default and powercontrol bar needs to be set on launcher and requires a restart to work properly...these bugs are solved)
3rd bug: when I choose the folder for favorite contacts (contacts marked with a star) on homescreen the application crashes.
Somebody who uses Ginger Criskelo v42 or v45 has an idea to solve this problem? link or solution will be useful!
I like to thank Criskelo for his great work and this beautiful ROM!
you might also wanna check on CMy7 or miui. Great interface, smooth as silk and AOSP!
No best only users choice and GB is Beta not full release .

[Q] What is you're favorite?

what is your personal preference on the available ICS roms?
Taking into consideration functionality and stability.
(this might be a dumb question but ics roms remove the function of the capacitive buttons and the home button right?)

Go for midnote 2.0 the most stable of ICS roms. Will have touchwiz also but just replace with Nova or Apex and its just like stock ICS.
If you just want the real stock ICS then go for imilka's AOSP ICS rom.
And no the ICS roms dont remove the function of capacitive and home button. Midnote doesn't remove it. In Imilka you can flash a zip and can have onscreen buttons!

Touchwiz 4 launcher

Hey guys,
i wanted to have Touchwiz 4 on my sgs and i already have, but i want this special transistion effect which you can see in the video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=Ylzei7-4Gtw#t=268s
I can get the right launcher with this effect for ICS ROM's, but I am now on GamerzROM v10 and its still GB.
Here i can get the right one for ICS and there is a link for GB,too, but the russian website gives me an error when i want to download the file.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1520436
Has someone this Touchwiz 4 launcher i want to have for GB ? Or how can i get the ICS version work on GB?

Why does the Apex launcher lag on screen preview?

When I pinch in on the home screen to see screen previews of all my screens, the Apex launcher lags so bad it makes me cringe. I've even selected to keep Apex in memory, but that doesn't help with the extremely laggy screen preview. Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks.

1.Had you try to enable force GPU rendering in developer option at system setting sir? and reduced the Window animation scale and Transition animation scale to 0.5 ? maybe you can try and see the different
2.Had you try it on other launcher and same result?
im on Criskelo v11.2 too did try apex and have same problem, you can try nova launcher everything good :victory:
Flash a aokp based rom and problemo solved!
interesting, didnt know that returned. It use to be an issue on earlier roms of ics.
You can try deleting data of Apex launcher, uninstall then reinstall freshly. That might solve it.
Yoi can try jbroid in recovery to clean maybe kernel issues and flash speedmod back afterwords. That way any kernel issues should be resolved.
Lastly, dependant upon your install patch of the ics rom it may be last option. Ultra clean instal: on speedmod kernel in recovery, factory reset, wipe cache, then in advanced dalvik cache. Then format system, data,(never efs and beware of idiotic mapping of sd card sometimes to external card, sometimes emmc to, best to take external card out).Note device now will not boot, all data and lingering files from previously installed roms are lost, thus no crap can hinderer normal operation from rom to be installed. Then head into download mode and reinstal rom through pc odin. Then install speedmod(note binary counter, annoyingly will increase giving exclamation mark) throught pc odin. Remedy anoying exclamation mark with chainfire tool, forgot name.
This way you, as a last resort you will have optimal situation for rom, but will have lost all data and installed applications.
You see most roms are nonwipe, thus files that can hinder operations are still there when updating ota/kies or by flashing non wipe rom throught pc odin. This causes almost all unexplained battery drains, weird foreclosures, etc that some experience and some not.
note advice is based on tips from other users and experience, all at own risk
also, never wipe and perform these steps on stock kernel, or stock kernel recovery, but always from safe kernel, or safe kernel booted recovery, like speedmod

To all the above posters:
I'll try what zentord suggested. I don't plan on using any other ROM our launcher, of course, as I have settled on what I want.
AOSP and AOKP ROMs are not suitable for a device like the Note because they don't support the S Note and Memo.
Wiping everything for the animation to work properly is not worth it.

Have you eventually resolved this issue without wiping?
I came across this too in S2 with Apex 1.2.5 (pro) on XWLPT and XWLPU stock based ROM.
Would be interested in how you resolved this. If I revert Apex back to version 1.1.0, the animation works perfectly.
There is even an option to change preview animation under Home Screen Settings with version 1.1.0.
However, as soon as play store upgrade it to 1.2.5, that 'preview animation' option disappear and preview animation becomes really chunky.
Revert back to 1.1.0 and it's fine again.
I will try asking the developer to see if this is a known issue, quoting this thread.
It's the icon labels. They eat a lot of performance on both apex and Nova. In Nova launcher it makes my home screen transitions laggy and in apex the overview. I don't use the overview often so I chose apex. If you disable the icon labels everything is butter but that is not something everyone likes.
I hope they fix these issues in the future!

5x4 Touchwiz launcher for JB.

So I flashed Cheese ROM which is TW JB ROM for N7000. I really love the ROM except for the fact that it has a 5x5 launcher. I personally don't like it very much and because of that I flashed cm11.
So I've been wanting to go to JB back for battery life but the thing is, I am not able to find 5x4 launcher which I can use in Cheese ROM. Flashed a couple of .zip files claiming to be 5x4 launcher but none of them worked. Also pushed a few .apk to system without any luck.
If anyone could direct me to a working 5x4 launcher which is made for n7000 and will work on the above mentioned ROM, I'll be really grateful.
Thanks,
Ishaan.
