much thanks to Steve574 for the pointer to Smart Actions / Battery Saver

So, I've got a Rezound and my wife has a Droid 4. We installed Endomondo. At the start, we both have "GPS Excellent".
We go for a walk, and come back
-We check my Rezound map and distance and it's a reasonable approximation of everywhere we went.
-We look at her Droid 4 map and distance and it's a line for about a couple hundred feet or so.
We took her phone out of its holster to no avail. We took the phone out of the case to no avail. We've held the phone in hand to no avail.
Finally, mid-walk, we turned on the screen and saw that her Droid 4 was "Locating Satellites..." for a split second before "GPS Excellent"-- which leads us to believe that perhaps the GPS shuts down shortly after the screen goes blank.
Independent of Endomondo, if the Droid 4 screen is on, the GPS crosshairs remain on. If I turn off the screen and turn it back on, GPS icon takes a second before coming on, then blinking to get satellite and then solid.
We've looked everywhere and can't seem to find where to adjust to prevent the GPS from shutting down.
Settings / Data Manager / Data Saver is OFF
Settings / Location & Security / My Location has all "Google location services", "Standalone GPS services", and "VZW location services" enabled
Any pointers?

I'm trying to set it up on my NC so that the WiFi turns off when the screen turns off. I'm following directions I've found on the net, but I can't seem to find the right condition.
I set up a WiFi off profile, and set it to turn wifi off, and under conditions, I have the following options,
Add Condition
Time Period
Calendar Keywords
Location
Incoming Call
Missed Call
Unread Text/SMS
Battery
Wired Headset Attached
Connected BT device
Connected to WiFi
Docking State
Profile status
I'm trying to get it to quit rebooting after the screen shuts off. It's becoming quite an annoyance, but not being able to find this setting is driving me more crazy.
Any one have this running and working?
there should be a screen status condition. you have to click inverse logic after selecting it. unsure why you're not seeing it :-\ but it also looks like you're missing some other conditions too. i have many more than that on the free version. screen status is at the bottom for me.

Yeah, Screen Status is the last condition on the list for me too, on the Lite version.
Silly me, I have been working in landscape and had to scroll down. Thanks guys
Hi all,
I've had a search around but couldn't find this particular issue discussed.
I have a N1 running CM7. When the phone is plugged in (either on my desk, or in the car) the screen will auto dim to a very low level after approx. 20 seconds after last touch.
This happens if the brightness is set to auto or a manual level. I've gone through all the settings I can find but couldn't find anything regarding this. I have got developer > stay awake enabled, which I guess stops the screen from actually sleeping, but it still goes dim.
The CM7 auto dim settings are disabled.
Any advice folks? I want the screen to not auto-dim after 20 seconds. Out of interest, the 'Car Widget Pro' widget seems to be able to force the brightness if you choose something other than 'auto' in the widget settings. So perhaps I am missing something somewhere else?
It's a real PITA when trying to navigate in the car with google maps as whenever I touch the screen to get the brightness back it disables gps tracking and I have to re-hit the icon, which is distracting whilst driving..
Here's hoping..
Hey, I'm only posting because I had a very similar issue. What I did was go into display settings (while connected via USB) and changed the timeout to one minute (or whatever you want). For me, when I went to change the timeout, no item was selected by default. This happened to me after I installed WidgetLocker for some reason. I doubt I will help but I had a very similar issue...

I'm having trouble with the GPS on my ZR. Basicly it seems that it won't startup when I startup an App like Google Maps, Waze or Foursquare. GPS function is on, but it won't activate, no GPS icon shows in the top left corner. Nor does it find satellites when I check that through an app like GPS Status. When I turn off GPS by using the widget, and turn it back on, most of the time the GPS icon will appear in the upper left corner and I will get a lock on. Sadly this won't last, the icon dissappears and so does the GPS lock.
I tried this fix: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2197842
But it does not work. From the start, the app shows that my phone wont even find the satellites, in stead of just not getting a fix with them.
Anyone have any suggestions on what to try? I am om the official update 4.2.2 and unrooted.

GPS works very well for me in both 4.1.2 and 4.2.2. It seems your GPS doesn't work at all. Maybe take it back for a replacement?
Just to be sure... try tapping on the lower right icon that zooms to your default location with GPS off. It should show a pretty wide blue circle. When you toggle GPS using the widget and you see the GPS icon appearing shortly on the notification bar, can you check if the blue circle shrinks due to the more accurate GPS measurements? Of course try this in an open area...
The GPS icon doesn't stay on for me always when I turn it on, I always presume it will only really be activated periodically when it needs to...
Have you turn on some power saving function? try to turn them off.
Problem went away, but unfortunately I dont know how. I did fiddle around with the app GPS STATUS and deinstalled Google Maps to stock. Cleared all caches too. Glad it was software and not hardware.

Hi,
I often use the RunKeeper application when I make long walks. In all my previous phones, the GPS kept working when I turned off the display and put the phone in my pocket. In the mi 5, however, it seems like the GPS stopped functioning as soon as I turn off the display put the phone in my pocket. When I take it back out, it shows the same position that I was at when I put the phone in my pocket, and within a few seconds it is updated to my actual position.
Has anyone else experienced this? Is this a matter of settings (maybe even permissions)? Same happens with navigation apps like Waze - if I put another application to run in the foreground, such as Youtube, then Waze (while still working in the background) loses my location, and when I switch back to it after some time, it takes a few seconds to show me my new location.
Thanks,
Shlomy
Hi,
This has happened to me also while using the Starva app and the reason is MIUI doesn't allow to use the Location in Background.
To allow that, go to
Settings -> Battery & Performance -> Power -> App Battery Saver
and select the app you want. Then you'll see that Background location is Restrict. Make it Allow and you're good to go.
Regards,
Samitha
Thanks so much! Almost got me to try custom roms because of that.
how can i have the screen off while google maps continues to work and give voice instructions in the background? my note 4 on kitkat was able to do that. but for note 8 after screen is off for a minute or 2, it says gps signal loss until screen is turned back on. am uable to add google maps to unmonitored app for battery saver as i was wondering if that is the cause.
