Some of you may have heard of tablet mode and if you have tried it you know well that it smashes your phone. Apps are small, their layout is screwed, things overlap, crash or stop working, Google Play forbids you to download, if you tried AOKP you cant even use launcher and phone. In short, it is a mess.
PARANOIDANDROID changed that. It does not "heal" tablet mode, it obliterates the boundaries. You define how big or small apps are, you define in which UI they display, no matter if your phone runs in tablet or phone mode, which also you can define. Customize every single entity on your phone, lockscreen, navigationbar, system-components, widgets, apps. If you prefer stay with your three bearpaw buttons + drop-down curtain or switch to a combined navigationbar + drop-up notificationcenter, enjoy Youtube in 3D, Gmail and settings in 2-columns, Chrome in its better mobile UI, etc. Nothing overlaps, nothing crashes, everything works as you'd expect. This is completely new ground and has never been realized before, it is lightyears from tablet mode.
We created it to establish the idea that tablet/hybrid mode can indeed work and that is was an error on Googles side to use the same layout for high resolution devices that is used on tiny little things like htc wildfire. We saw how badly build.prop tablet-mode was milked so we decided to remain closedsource until the codebase is mature enough to publish. Our first repos went public last week and the rest will follow soon, i will personally commit the hybrid sourcetree into CM9. Until then, do not ask us for sources, we have good reason to do it like this and when it's out people will know why, they will see something that works, not features for show. We are still fully open to ports. As long as they stay true to our vision and base on CM9.

About this Rom in simple english as posted by D4rKn3sSyS
First of all, this ROM is based on CM9 sources, so they have all our respect and credits.
This ROM has basically two unique features not seen on any other ROM, called PAD (Per app density), and PAL (Per app layout), so with a visual panel, very user friendly, you can setup for every single app, a DPI (Your max is 320 as device is XHDPI), and a Layout mode, that means tablet mode, or phone mode. Some ICS apps have two layouts, as seen on Youtube, gmail, contacts, settings, etc, On tablets it consist on two colums, but on phones only one, also some custom ones like youtube (on tablet is a 3D view, while on phone is just an usual bored app).
You can also either use your phone on tablet mode with some apps on phone mode, or phone mode with some apps in tablet mode. So it's not just tablet mode or just phone mode but an hybrid mode that lets you make whatever you want with your apps.
Also there are a few common features seen on other ROMs, like statusbar transparency, sense recent apps, etc etc.

ParanoidAndroid has nothing to do with Samsung.
AOSP -> CM9 -> ParanoidAndroid -> This build
The kernel is not the same as Samsung leak/release.

This one is based on the original compilation by the Paranoidandroid team for SGS2, incorporating bug fixes in paranoid settings, additional options including lockscreen customisation, framework-res customisations and uses Arom installer customisations in CWM Recovery....
It includes xhdpi graphics which are higher res than the SGS2 one.

Problem with pitch-black

I have within these hours installed the resurrection remix 2.6.1 ROM, and changed kernel to CM 3.0.32, using the the AROMA installer.
I am quite confident that I specifically marked "Pitch Black" during my custom install, but when finished, there where only "Acromatic", "Holo-Red" and "System". So I downloaded and installed "pitch black perfect", but no luck.
Any help will be appreciated.

Ok, firstly you appear to have do e everything correct. This theme won't appear in the theme chooser app. The difference of this theme are not dramatic in appearance, its all subtle.
In the last version, for RR2.6 i found i had to flash it twice, couldnt tell you why! In addition you can wipe caches prior to flashing and again after? This could help with this problem.
Be aware that I have not updated for RR 2.6.1 yet and it will overwrite the problems corrected by west in the systemUI. I will be updating as soon as I get my laptop fixed, having major trouble with it just now

Okay, so i gave it one more shot, wiping all there is to wipe... No luck. BUT!
1) as you noticed, I am NOT using the ROM which this theme is designed for, so that might have an effect.
2) As I rebooted my phone, I have a pin-lockscreen (not the sim-lock) which appears as the very first thing after boot screen. And that was what i would call pitch black. Then in a blink of an eye, the "system"-theme kicks in and changes it back to before i rebooted. (That is, if the thing I see really is pitch black-theme and not the standard "before-custom-android"-theme.
Thanks for your quick respond Tony!

This is an ongoing developer project to make way for a modification that will entirely transform your device, but retain the aesthetics and the experience of your phone. I know you've seen tablet mode roms before, they change two lines in your build.prop file which you could easily edit yourself in seconds and maybe throw a keyboard in there to make it work better. It's a start, but this ain't enough. This thing has potential, but it is wasted the moment you try to stuff a full blown tablet into your poor phone. Yet we all know our high res phones can very well handle more than silly 1-column layouts. So the magic must be in between somewhere, a place that Google must have overlooked and left blank. Yes, this rom strives to drop your device into tablet mode, but it won't stop there, it will reshape and redefine ICS to make it all a usefull addition and not just a cute novelty. we're calling it: Hybrid Mode, best of both worlds.

Porting/Building this ROM has required much effort and time from me,
and many frustrated attempts, until I got it working stable, What I ask from you is that you dont make
any unnecessary comments, since the ROM has a few bugs and I'm fixing them, dont worry.
Hope you enjoy !

Hi guys, here's a little softmod I made, its based on tejases CM7.2 Build Three, and the goal in this softmod is to get some ICS/JB feel.
Here are the changes:
Added:
- Google splash image
- Nexus S JB boot animation
- Jelly Bean wallpapers and media
- Holo Launcher - mobint
- Holo Locker - mobint
- Google Play Music
- ICS statusbar layout Achep
- ICS theme by Achep
- Google Apps
- Latest Play Store
- Root Browser - many thanks to jrummy16 for his full version of Root Browser
- QuickPic
- Wireless tether
- A few build.prop tweaks
Removed:
- Androidian
- Cyanbread
- File Manager
- Gallery 3D
- Launcher2
- GB audio
- Music
- Car Home
- CM Wallpapers
Notes:
A few settings for better looks that I cannot set without /data partition
- Cyanogenmod settings>Interface>Notification power widget>Indicator color
(easiest thing to do is to write #ff00abff) - thanks justsayin
- Cyanogenmod settings>Tablet tweaks>Disable lockscreen
(sometimes default lockscreen and Holo Locker get activated at the same time, so disabling default locksreen leaves only Holo Locker active)
- I cannot apply directly ICS statusbar layout, so after flashing and booting into ROM, reboot into recovery and flash ics_layouts_Swifty_Beans.zip

Quick idea: instead of the things three user should do after installing, you could provide a cwm/Twrp backup to make it easier for the users. And fantastic work man (as I saw soft-mod I got wild but actually it looks great)

Yeah, I also had the same idea, but the problem is, as -Grift- said, with the layout, if you only flash system and boot with the layouts it will loop like hell, showing some fatal errors in logcat.
I have to test more, and I'll ask Achep, he ought to know how to fix that problem.

Nothing special there IMO. Just added some apps, you can do this easiely with CM7 Theme chooser ICS theme, plus setting Holo from lockscreen option in CM7 Settings, installing GO Launcher with ICS theme too. Sound can be flashed with zip, wallpapers are then already part of Go Launcher theme.
And so?

I didn't make this to be special, we all know that if you want to dev for real, first of all you need knowledge of C and Java and structure of Android itself. I don't know any of those, except basic knowledge of C.
I have only started to learn, baby steps, we all have to begin with something.

Disabling strict mode? it is already disabled :/
Tried ticking it and then rebooting... same problem. I did use an alternative kernel however. Perhaps this is the cause of everyone's problem?
EDITS:
To do with this perhaps?
"If the image is built as eng mode, there is no impact on enable/disable strict mode"
i.e it IS because of strict mode... however ticking/unticking the option will make no difference for us?
