i cant do all 3 wipes... it wont let me wipe data/factory reset... says

Formatting /data...
then it just resets after about 2 minutes of sitting there not deleting anything.
also Kies sees the phone but just keeps trying to connect... Odin also sees it but fails everytime.

"booted back in recovery and tried to do a data wipe, every time i try it freezes and reboots after a few seconds and doesnt do the wipe"
CWM wipe data causes freeze seem to suggest there are damage in the data partition. There are tools and guide in the thread below which may help to check if there is damage in partition and a solution to that problem. In case you have not read it.

Hi guys,
Current situation
I haven't been able to use my phone for a good day now and I been busy reading guides, trying out stuff for a bunch of hours now. I thought it was time to ask you guys. Currently this is the only thing I'm able to do:
When I boot normally its stuck on the black screen with Samsung Galaxy Note on it.
When I boot with volume down, a screen popups up if I'm sure than press volume up. After that I'm in ODIN mode (says so with red letters in the left top). Below that it says: PRODUCT NAME: GT-N7000 , CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: NO , CURRENT BINARY: SAMSUNG OFFICIAL.
In the middle of the screen below the Android guy it says: Downloading... Do not turn of target !! (I'm not really sure if its suposed to say downloading there, while its not downloading anything?)
What I did so far
I came from a gingerbread Rocket ROM and decided to try out the ICS Stunner rom. I downloaded the ROM and read the install discription. I pretty much went into CWM right away to install the zip (rom) from SD card. It did work and ofcourse everything was still there cause I didnt wipe anything. But I noticed that a bunch of things didn't work and a lot of programs where crashing. I assumed I must have missed a step so I decided to go with the 'Squeaky Clean' install, which was posted on the team-passion website.
This was the last time I was able to get into CWM and connect my phone true USB with my laptop. Because I did the following steps:
Reboot in to ClockworkMod Recovery.
Format the following:
- Wipe Data/Factory Reset
- Wipe Cache Partition
**Enter 'Mounts and Storage'**
- Format everything it will allow you to
**Go Back, enter 'Advanced'**
-Wipe Dalvik Cache
-Wipe Battery Stats
**Go Back to main menu, reboot system**
The next step on that list is: Remove your battery and boot up into 'Download Mode'. But the only mode I am getting into is the ODIN MODE where it already says 'Downloading...'. When I try to flash using ODIN, it isn't able to setup the connection. It does identify that the phone is connected because the ID:COM is yellow on 0:[COM3]. It didn't before, but after reading somewere that it might help to install Kies for the drivers it did.
Also tried "InitialCFRootFlasher" and "DooMLoRD_v4_ROOT-zergRush-busybox-su" but both arent able to establish the connection. Just like ODIN.
What I'd like to do
I'd prefer going with the ICS Stunner ROM, seeing thats how this all started. But currently I'd settle for anything working, because being phoneless for a day is pretty anoying hehe.
What do you guys suggest?
I really don't know how u understood the process. But just don't screw this. Go download any of the pre rooted odex rom -link in my signature - and flash it via odin.
Or any rootable rom from dr ketan's thread - link in my signature - and follow the steps mentioned there to the Dot slowly and calmly. Just get to GB and rooted. Then report here. Will tell u how to go to ics stunner after that.
BOOMED from my BOMBASTIC NOTE
Thanks for the quick reply. I'm currently downloading one of the prerooted roms from your signature. However it would suprise me if ODIN allows me to install these seeing it can't really connect to the phone. Am I suposed to be in the 'Downloading... Do not turn of target !!' screen on my phone, while connected to laptop true USB?
Will update once I'v got it.

Yup u need to be in that mode. The odin on your PC should show the Com port as yellow. If it doesnt then there is some drivers problem.
It is connected yeah, the com port is shown as yellow. After loading any rom in PDA, Phone or Bootloader and only checking auto reboot and f. reset time this is what happens:
<ID:0/003> Added!!
<ID:0/003> Odin v.3 engine (ID:3)..
<ID:0/003> File analysis..
<ID:0/003> SetupConnection..
And thats where its hanging, nothing on the phone screen is changing.
I don't remember the screen saying 'Downloading..' last time I flashed something. It's already saying that when I enter the screen, when its not downloading anything.
Apparently I'm not able to make edits yet here so heres another post after figuring out how to load these files:
It is connected yeah, the com port is shown as yellow. After loading the three files in ODIN under PDA, PHONE and CSC just like on the screenshot in your signature. And only checking 'Auto reboot' and 'F. Reset Time' the following happens:

Done! I'm still not sure what went wrong, I think placing the files in the wrong place in ODIN. Got a tip from someone how to place them and they worked in one go. Pretty weird cause I was using the same setup as the XDA guide post.
Main problem is solved now, I'll have to look into the ICS thing now. Thanks for your help.

Sorry was away so couldnt reply. The setup shown i xda should work perfectly. Anyways its good to know that you got all things settled. You can install the ICS Stunner (no touchwiz and no samsung apps) if you so want. Remember to backup your data as you will have to wipe data for going to ICS. From rooted GB install mobile odin then download the lp1 repack from my signature and after all that is done reboot to recovery clear caches and data and flash stunner (download the latest build by clicking Stunner in my signature) clear caches and data and reboot.
* Triangle away is required only when you flash lp1 through PC Odin.*
Ended up using the mobile odin application, works like a charm.
Thanks for your help!

Long story short, I messed some stuff up on my phone. I'm pretty surre it's not completely bricked, but I have no idea what to do. I'm able to boot into recovery and download mode. But in CWM I can't do anything. If I try to restore one of my Nandroids, it goes fine until restoring data, at which point it hangs and then reboots, but gets stuck at the initial boot logo. The same thing happens if I do a wipe. I booted into download mode and connected to PC Odin and flashed the SGN_XX_OXA_KJ1_FACTORYFS.tar from dr ketan's guide, but then when it rebooted, it got stuck at the boot logo again. And now when I connect to Odin and try to flash anything, it doesn't flash.
Obviously it's not completely bricked, but is there anything I can do to restore it?
Did your SGN_XX_OXA_KJ1_FACTORYFS.tar flash went all the way through? Did
you see succeeded: 1/failed: 0 message in PC Odin?
If you did, all you had to do when stuck in bootloop afterwards was to pull out your
battery, wait a bit, put it back in, boot into stock recovery and do a factory reset and
cache wipe.

Yes, that's the message I got. And then I went to flash it again (I guess that was the wrong thing?) and then it didn't work, like it wouldn't even connect, it would get stuck at SetupConnection. But I'm trying it again right now and it's working so I'll try what you said.

It bootlooped again, and with the USB cord still plugged in, Windows said something like there was a malfunction and it couldn't read the device, or something like that. Does that mean anything?
Ok, chasmodo, I did what you said and booted into recovery, but it boots into cwm, not stock. Still do a factory reset/cache wipe?
Yes, and reboot.
Ok so I did that, and it got stuck at "Formatting /data" and rebooted/bootlooped again.
That's odd, factory reset/cache wipe usually help to remove bootloops after PC Odin flash.
Any idea where to go from here? I really messed this up bad, didn't I?
It is time for any wannabe-flasher to make up your mind where to belong:
- to be a experienced flasher and not to cry about bricked phone;
- or to be USER of that phone and stop using any advice from devs. That means going back to GB and from there full wipe and continue using stock and wait for stock (ICS) for your region.
From what I see:
1) devs make contradictory statements;
2) devs deny that the problem seems to be only CWM related (incompatibility between stock ICS kernel and great works of devs);
3) devs are 100% glueless about what to do in practical terms.
I'm not crying about a bricked phone, and I'd consider myself to be a fairly experienced flasher. I've run into a seemingly serious problem that I've never had before, and that's why I'm here asking for help. I'm trying to go back to GB, but it's just not working. I've reflashed SGN_XX_OXA_KJ1_FACTORYFS.tar via Odin multiple times without problem, but now when I do it, it doesn't reboot. If you can help me in any way, I'd greatly appreciate it.
Ok, so I decided to try flashing the original firmware that it came with (N7000XXLA6_N7000XXLA4_N7000XEULA1_HOME.tar.md5). It actually worked, and it rebooted, and then went through the whole "Installing update package" or whatever it says. At one point it said "Can't access to '/system/csc/XEU/system/'." Does that mean anything? So it finished installing and rebooted but then bootlooped again. So I went into recovery, and this time it was stock recovery, did a factory reset/cache wipe, and it actually worked. But then when I rebooted, it still ended up bootlooping.
My wifes phone started to act up last night so I suggested that she reboot it. However, upon rebooting it just gets stuck at
the Boot Animation. Any ideas on how to resolve this? I guess I have to flash a new rom? I am also thinking of flashing it
back to stock rom is it possible in this state?
Thanks.

use heimdall, download the Rescue kit for i9000, contains complete package for linux
updated the Collections. check out Quick Solutions,
Bro, you are not Cf-rooted. Tell us more about your phone so that you can get the correct clockworkmod recovery.
I had a similar problem. The solution I found that worked, based on a suggestion elsewhere, was to flash the new (stock) ROM twice in a row. Have no idea why this worked.
The story on this phone is that I got it July of last year and somewhere in Feb/Mar of this year
I installed a CustomRom for the first time, SlimICS, then I gave it to my wife as I got a GalaxyNote.
Then about a week ago it started to act up, at first it keeps on rebooting, then it starts to
show a message after reboot that encrytion has failed and has to be factory reseted, my wife
just basically ignore the message and just reboot again... it worked for a while, then the other
day, it rebooted itself into recovery, and when booted everything is just amiss, forceclose everywhere
notification is missing... so I thought maybe time for a new ROM or something, so I decided to
bring it back to Stock GB Rom first... but even this I cant seem to accomplish.
Anyways I just tried to flash the package Rescue kit for i9000 suggested by xsenman from heimdall,
but still after rebooting, it goes to recovery with this error:
--Copying media files
E:failed to mount /sdcard (File exists)
E:copy_dbdata_media:Cant mount /sdcard
your storage not prepared yet. please use UI
menu for format and reboot actions.
Meida files copy failed.
--Wiping data...
Formatting /data
E:format_volume: rfs format failed on /dev/block/mmcblkOp2
Formatting /dbdata
Formatting /cache

Data Wipe Failed
Also if I may add, I cant seem to turn the unit off without taking the battery out, because it just keeps on going back to
recovery.

had the solution for this added to Quick Solutions, just click Collections for Android below, scroll down and try it.
You are boot looping because you don't have /dbdata. This seems to he normal when flashing back to stock. Do a search for a galaxy s dbdata.tar and flash it under pda in Odin. Thats what I have to do.
Good luck

My Galaxy Note GT-N7000 was on CM10 last night and I followed Zedomax's rootgalaxynote.com GT-N7000 unrooting method and when I was installing the Mobile Odin Lite on my phone, it said it needs to download more add-on to be able to flash it, then all the sudden my internet connection was down, so I couldn't download it, but followed his instruction and tried wipe and factory reset, but it got stuck at formatting (no progress), then I flashed cm9 again, but it was stuck at cm9 boot logo, nothing else. Then I followed Zedomax's rootgalaxynote.com's first method using my Computer Desktop but

the ever GOLDEN RULE: Don't ever ever attempt to WIPE data if your on a unsafe or on a stock ICS kernel. That's should be at the top of your list before you do anything on your phone. If you need to WIPE, make sure your already in a safe kernel or if you haven't still, then flash one.
Now going back on your perennial issue. The only thing you can and will do is FLASH a stock GB on download mode using PC ODIN. Yes Doc Ketan's thread/s have those old GB's ROM.. -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997, follow it to a tee.
One added thing when your going to start to flash GB again... Pray, that it would not stuck back again at 'factoryfs.img'
Good luck bud!

Can you get the Note into Download mode?
If so, try using desktop Odin (latest desktop version not mobile version) and flash the Abyss 4.2 kernel. the Tar file is easily found on XDA. This is a GB kernel and should allow you to get into full Recovery. From there you can flash a new ROM as you are now on a safe kernel.
Tried that, but not sure about the latest desktop version.

Hi, thank you for your message, I was on Abyskernel when I factory data reset, and tried to flash back to cm9 from cm10, but no luck. Then I used Odin3-v1.85 on desktop with Gingerbread Rom, it got stuck at factoryfs.img.. I have tried with different pc disabling firewall and anti virus. What is the latest desktop version of Odin that you know? What specific tar file do you know that is the best? Thank you again.

your CM10 to CM9 downgrade sounds like a bad flash, it can happen. I would try Odin3 V3.05 with Abyss (search for "AbyssNotekernel42CWTouchOriginalLogo.tar" or go here - https://www.dropbox.com/s/yoe791qq3atbung/AbyssNotekernel42CWTouchOriginalLogo.tar).
this should allow you to install a safe kernel to flash from. if you can now access Recovery, then you can flash a ROM from there. I would use a Stock based one (I always recommend Chrack ROM or Criskelo), If you prefer, you can download a Stock tar file and use Odin but I would try downloading the latest Chrack ROM or Criskelo ROM, transferring it to your micro SD and flashing after you have installed the Abyss tar.
I hope this helps. Please hit Thanks if it did.

You gave me the AbyssNotekernel, but the only thing my phone can now do when I turn on is either show a screen with "Firmware upgrade encounters an issue. Yes, the Abyss tar file is for use with Odin. install Odin on your PC, put the Note into Download and connect. Flash the tar file and wait for the Note to reboot (search for notes on how to flash with Odin if you're not 100% sure). you should now be able to use Recovery to flash a ROM from this safe kernel.
Just a quick question.

.tar file is to be flashed with odin directly. It has an image inside and should not extract it. Should put the .tar file in one folder but not on desktop screen. Select pda box in odin and brow to the folder where you put .tar file. Should see it there.
BTW, if flash using CWM failed again, then should use hg42 scanner to check if there is partition damage.

It seem to show you have an emmc brick, although using the partition scanner will confirm. The options are to send to ss service for warranty or to revise using repartition. For warranty you will need to reset flash counter using a jig.

Hi bro,
I flashed the Abysskernel again and it went to Samsung Galaxy Note GT-N7000 logo with big Triangle at the bottom and it then goes to Android system recovery <3e>, then it looks like there is no option for me to access the SD card, but its own 16GB storage it came with and that one has CM10 in it. Tried to flash that, but it says "E:failed to verify whole-file signature". If I attempt to claim for warranty will Samsung know that I rooted it after clearing the binary counts? Please let me know. Thank you for your instructions. If there is anything else you want me to try out, please let me know. Thank you.

Hello all,
I read now the warning post and I understand now that probably I shouldn't have done it (so please be gentle ).. however maybe someone can still help me with my situation:
I've rooted my Galaxy Note with ClockworkMod recovery successfully and then busybox.
Then I went to recovery mode again (after restarting the phone), however it loaded Android regular recovery mode (not Clockwork), so I installed Clockwork again and without restarting performed WIPE DATA (maybe that was also a mistake?). After it was finished it restarted by itself and now its in the following status:
- stucks at GALAXY NOTE N7000 logo. Sometimes blinks, but never goes beyond it.
- Recovery mode exactly same - stuck at logo.
- when plugging USB it will show the battery, but it's like stuck then.
- Tried download mode, but it's stuck at Downloading... forever.
I couldn't find the exact case as mine, that it restarted by itself and stuck at logo now.
I backed up everything, the previous ROM and etc.
I am aware of the bricking bug of ICS, however I had the ClockworkMod installed, so what did I do wrong??
And most importantly, what should I do now? Can I do something via the download mode? I don't think Odin recognizes any connected device when I plug in the USB, but I don't know how to check if it does or not..
Thanks in advance!
Switch to download mode, connect to PC and install a stock JB (be sure to install the USB drivers before).
Make a snapshot of the errors an post it here.

I don't understand this.. my stock ROM was:
Baseband Version: N7000XXLB2
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7-N7000XXLC1-CL1003701 [email protected] #2
Build number: GINGERBREAD.XXLC1
I don't know what coutnry, I bought it from Netherlands, I live in Belgium, but it could be from any country in the region!
I cannot find this one exactly. I find many with N7000XXLB2 and many with N7000XXLC1.
Which one should I choose?
Also, can I install a JB or ICS directly?
Please let me know I'm doing it right (cause this is getting really insanely ridicilous):
1. I install PhilZ recovery mode via the phone recovery mode.
2. I install a stock ROM (I tried many) via Odin download mode.
All the time stuck as Galaxy N7000 logo. Never goes past it.
Every time I install a stock ROM it also removes the Philz recevory mode, but maybe that's ok..
Anything I'm doing wrong??
Why don't you follow my advice from second post and then show us a snapshot of PC Odin.
No need for Philz when installing a stock Rom with PC Odin (it's always deleted).
And tell us what Rom you install.

So I don't wipe anything and just go to download mode and install a PDA file of a STOCK ROM, that's it?
I tried that, but now I will be more specific (and in another guide they say to do some steps before, so its very confusing already).
I also asked above how do I know which ROM I should install?
and also, how do I get errors log? there were no errors when I was installing the PDA..

No going into recovery mode after restart this time and still same problem.
when you flash a stock rom with pc odin, the phone may not boot. If you have flashed a GB rom then when you are stuck at logo enter stock recovery with three button combo and then wipe data factory reset, wipe cache and then reboot.
I flashed a stock rom as explained above, not a GB. I tried wiping cache and all data through recovery. Nothing helps. You say it might not boot, so how do I make it boot with Stock ROM?
stock roms can be ginger bread (GB), or ICS or JB (jelly Bean)
flash a GB stock rom, wait for the proceedure to finish completely, when you see its not booting then use three buttons to get into stock recovery and then wipe then reboot

By "ClockworkMod" you mean CWM.zip right? This is a temporary recovery that disappears upon reboot. It also LETHAL to wipe with when running on top of a stock ICS kernel.
So to sum up;-
You were running Stock ICS.
You flashed CWM.zip (from YouTube or where ever) from stock 3e recovery and then flashed Root/busybox file.
Booted back into stock recovery, flashed CWM.zip again and performed wipe data/factory reset with it.
How am I going so far?
Bad news - you have most likely superbricked your device.
If so,new MOBO or repartition is only way out now
it might be mess up.. try get 5files wif bootloader n place it accordingly in odin .

Yep, emmc bricked. Send it to servicecenter, they repaired it for free, for me. Or you can do the workaround http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1667886 , but i dont would do that, as you will get many freezes maybe. Thats very annoying.
