APK that go launcher will see as an icon pack - Android Themes

Anybody know what needs to be defined in an apk for Go Launcher to see it as an icon pack?
(And without using their "thememaker")

I have the same question!

+1 for icon pack

studying urcipo
How detailed of an explanation are you looking for here?
If you know everything you need to know about making an icon pack and just want the easiest no BS answer, it is this:
Create a Go Launcher Theme, changing only the icons. Yes, it must start off as a theme, just change only the icons if you wish. Assign each icon to its proper internal activity name Compile into an .apk and then sign the .apk. I'm guessing the red bold parts are the things that you would need to look into and are possibly not doing now.
More? Ok.
You don't have to use theme factory, you can use a template somebody else has created. ThemeFactory makes a good reference to the template, not the other way around. The template is a much nicer thing, trust me.
I'll start off with the simple-ish version I guess. In order to be seen as an "icon pack", all of the included icons are automatically assigned to their proper spots, and the user doesn't have to change each icon individually. I'm guessing this is what you mean by an "icon pack"?
Shortest answer on how to do this: Create a Go Launcher Theme that only changes icons.
You don't want to use their "Theme Factory". Ok. You have a few options here then.
1) "drag-and-drop" your own icons on top of somebody else's iconpack.
2) Eclipse . I'm hoping you know something about Eclipse
If you know nothing of the Android SDK or Eclipse, and aren't ready to study a bit and learn, go with option 1) or use themefactory. Either way, it'll be defined as a Go Launcher Theme in the end. But with only icons to apply.
But I'm assuming you either know something or dont mind learning. You can start easy with a template.
You'll probably be using a Go Launcher Theme Template in every case...rather than handcoding every single icon name out...unless you're really just hardcore in love with writing code.
I think this may be the best template. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1421724 Worth the read. Getting a bit outdated with some of the new/chanaged SDK coding, but it's pretty easy to figure out what to change on your own.
Also, Quinny889 has two of them made. . Reminder...this is NOT the dreaded ThemeFactory app . These are templates that you import into Eclipse and customize/fill-in. The template then does the work of "dealing with" the Go Launcher/SDK compatibility issues.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1324378 Best one. Recommend using this one.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1314753 Older version, takes some tweaking to make work, but far more streamlined/simple once you do figure it all out. I recommend the newer template.
(Both are templates courtesy of Quinny 899!)
They come with instructions in PDF form as well...quite simple if you take the time.
Basically, fill in with your own icons. Compile the APK. Download/use ZIPSIGNER2 or similar APK signing program on the APK so it can be installed.
http://activities.droidicon.com/ -->You can get the names of the "activities" you assign your icons to here. For example, search for go launcher and you'll see what I mean.
Yes, it's a bit tedious in any case to assign each icon to its proper spot.
The TL;DR version to answer your question if you already knew what you were doing: Grab a template, build it up, compile. Sign it.

There are resources around for every type of launcher, just search! Hope I helped at least a tiny bit.
launcherpro DOT com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=7754 More in-depth, still very good reading even though it's LauncherPro.

and also the background for the all programs header.. i cant seem to find that either!
thanks!
edit*
let me add the background for the smaller people widget i cant find that either lol
maybe no one knows and thats why these arnt changed in other themes? lol
No, I've searched it myself and can't find an answer.
oh thanks for trying!
i wanted to change the background of the programs list also, never found the corresponding image file. please let us know if you find it.
Not sure if i understood this correctly but background for grid view in Launcher ? have a look at pattern_carbon_fiber_dark.png in drawable. Don't use rosie anymore, insteaded i swapped Launcher.apk with advanceLauncher.apk found in the dream section.

this seems to be the right file for the android stock launcher, since we are talking about rosie/sense launcher this doesn't help... thanks for the hint though.

this might be all_programs_header_title.9.png. at least the name suggests it
afaik you can't just alter these *.9.png files, but you'd need to look that up if it doesn't work.

thanks everyone! maybe il put together a list of where everything is...
and well im not sure but for anyone else who doesnt bother editing .9.png, i find that if the file covers a whole box (like a header) instead of covering part of a box(like bottom rosie buttons) then you can easily change colour by:
(using photoshop)
- create new layer on top of image
- paint it what ever colour
- right click the layer and bring down the transparency so you can see the detail
... this has never given me problems

Hard time finding good icons

I've searched the 'net, I've looked at every crappy icon pack in the market, and I absolutely cannot find an icon pack that I am satisfied with.
Basically what I'm looking for are solid (non-transparent) versions of the LauncherPro icons, or icons that are identical (one solid color with no transparency or shadowing) so that I can edit them to my liking.
I've got decent photoshopping skills, but I've tried goofing around with the LauncherPro icons to no avail, I can't get them looking quite right.
Recommendations would be MUCH appreciated!
I assume you mean the application icons, in the applications list? Are you able to provide a screenshot of one you tried to edit (before or after)?

Sorry, I lost track and didn't subscribe. I'm just talking about the stock Launcher Pro Dock icons, sort of.

See the ones at the bottom? Like that, basically.
I See What You Mean.
Someone should release a vector version of those icons. :/
Wrong post. I'm dumb.
I know what you mean. I always find great icons, but they don't look right in the dock. They're made too small and look bad.
Here you go: http://www.iconfinder.com/browse
There are currently 760 full icon sets in there as I type this, all free, some for even commercial use, which allow you to download in .png or .ico format. You can even search for individual replacements for icons as well.
Happy hunting!

Menu pop-up buttons - theme

How do you theme the (6) icons that pop-up when you press the Menu button ? I'm referring to Settings, Search, Add, Wallpaper, etc, etc. The images don't appear to be in framework-res.apk. I've looked in a few other folders/files with no luck so far.
And if anyone knows where to get replacement images, can you please point me in the right direction ?

I believe they are in the vendor.apk and if you have a launcher like launcherpro you'll also have to them those as well.
No idea where to get custom images except from other ROM's or themes from those that have taken the time to colorize or otherwise theme the menu options. Hope it helps some.
I found a "vending.apk" but not the images that I was looking for. I'm using ADW too, by the way.

Sorry my bad, vending is for the settings menu, the images you are looking for are in the framework-res.apk, they begin with "ic_menu_", sorry for the mis-info
No need to apologize I'll look through there again. I've found "ic_menu..." images in there before (in 'drawable-mdpi' ?) but not ALL of them. Of course, there's over 700 to look through.

Other apk files contribute to that menu, depending on the app you have open. They all should start with ic_menu... Are you wanting to theme just the home screen? If so, some are in framework, settings and adw. If you need some help, send me a pm...

Yes, just the home screen at this point. I did find some of the images in framework-res.apk and I suspected the the launcher app must change things too. That's disappointing because when ADW updates, I have to change/update the image(s) again.
With your experience Macrodroid, how practical is it to take the existing images and edit them with The Gimp, for example ? Can I change the 'object' color and the background (easily) using that ?

I use paintshop pro to edit images. Gimp should work about the same. I also use 7-zip to edit the apk's.
As far as updates for adw goes, just save the images you change in a folder on your PC. When they update, pull the apk from your phone, open the drawable folder for the images, copy your images to the apk and save it. Resign the apk when your done and push it back to your phone. Or, if they don't change the filename on you, you can create an mm theme with a lit less hassle. If you need some help setting anything up, drop me a pm... I'll be more than happy to help you out...

[Q] Help theming Launcher Pro Plus widets

basically what i am asking is if i have an apk how do i theme it with either a smoked glass/ transparent look? so far i have found most of my themed widgets online. i am particularly looks to theme my launcher pro (widgets only)... i know member signals23 has done this, but i cannot get it to work for the life of me and decided i want to do it myself and besides it could give me good practice for if i want to learn more theming in the future. i have tried metamorph but unsuccessfully but then again i am a somewhat semi-noob at it, advice? suggestions?
Not sure exactly how you are going about modifying the images, but when I do it, I transfer the apk to my desktop, and extract the drawable files to my desktop, then I can look at each individual image, and then make my changes, and add the modified images back to the apk. But the only way I can get it to work, is to put the apk in system/apps...

[Q] How do You Make a Theme?

I want to know how to make a Theme with your own wallpapers and stuff. I planning on making one for Eclipse but I want to add my own stuff to it. I've used the Kitchen but it doesn't give the option to add stuff or customize. Do you have to do this manually through winrar or something? Any help would be nice.
You may want to try messaging gunnermike and ask him. I've only tried out one of his themes but it seemed like he is one of the people you would specifically want to get a hold of when it comes to theming.

Pretty much just like the method we suggested in your other thread, at least for the PNG edits. XML edits are more difficult, .9's are harder as well but you can easily swap them if you have some from other themes.
For swapping png's refer to your other thread and search mainly in systemUI.apk and framework-res.apk
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1459466
As for the default wallpaper, well it's titled default_wallpaper.jpeg
For the more advanced stuff this is a good starting point

Ok so i have a theme for eclipse I made through the Kitchen. Where would I put my default wallpaper( which folder?)
I believe its in framework-res.apk/framework-res/drawable-hdpi
i also would like to know how to change the default launcher
Do you mean you want to change it to a different launcher or theme the default launcher?
If you just want to change to a different launcher, just install another launcher And when you hit your home button, it will allow you to choose which launcher to use. You can also select which one will be the default.

i want a specific launcher on my theme
I'm not sure if you can change the launcher for a theme. Which launcher were you wanting?
Sent from the Evil Empire
You can add the apk on the system/apps folder, and remove the other launcher. Make sure the launcher your using is stable or else you'll find yourself using RSD, unless you are able to get to the market, or a file system where you have other launcher apk's (I use widget locker so I'm able to add the market to the lock screen if need be). If your launcher isn't stable with the rom your running you'll lose the ability to go "home" and if your using stock lock screen all you can do is unlock the phone to a black screen.
I was thinking "360 launcher" but as its in beta.... I have threw the apk in the /system/app folder when my theme was finished cooking, but all for not. When i booted up the theme on first install the Launcher just kept force closing over and over and over...........etc. Wouldnt even let me get to settings to uninstall(not sure thats the right place tho lol just thought about it). Luckily i know bad things can happen when making a theme and have Safestrap installed
If you plan on releasing the theme for download, you might want to ask the developer for permission to use their launcher before you do.
