Morning,
I've got my GNote running a stock ICS ROM rooted with Dr. Ketan method, temporary CWM.zip / install SUBusybox.
I really want to start experimenting with custom ROMS and such but given the issue with ICS Kernel I want to downgrade to GB, root and have the option to safely mess about without fear of turning the beloved Note onto a paperweight...
I've been reading across this forum a while now and there's a few things I've came across, but I'd like to know the easiest way to revert to GB..
From what I see it need to download PC Odin, a UK GB Stock ROM and install it via Odin.
Anything I'm missing out here? Do I need to flash a safer CF-Root or Abyss kernel first?
Sorry for the questions but this is much different to the HTC Desire I messed with daily without problems..
Thanks,

to revert to GB its as simple as flashing a GB Firmware in ODIN
Then when you are on GB, Flash a kernel like speedmod, Which will give you CWM + Root too ! Or just root the stock GB kernel, which ever suits you
Then flash away

I reckon u flash abyss first to do full wipe..and after that u can enter download mode to flash stock gb through pc odin.

Kinda feel a bit out of my depth here, Given I use the phone for work also I'm reluctant to brick the little son of a *****..
That said, I want to get off of ICS until they (Samsung) sort this issue out
Phone shows Running:
Android: 4.0.3
Baseband: N7000xxLPT
Kernel: 3.0.15-N7000xxLQ2
I have the root i was after, but just wondering if it's worth waiting for a fix from Samsung before i mess about a little more ..
PC Odin seems easy enough - issue is I can only seems to locate a Carphone Warehouse GB UK ROM - Guess this is not full of carrier bloatware?
Damn I'm edgy !

Hi CJSlim79,
Im facing the same problem as u. is it possible to guide me how to do it for return back to GB? i already downloaded the Odin, but cant find the link to download the GB files. mind to share the link?
fyi, my currently is 4.0.3 speedmod. hope can get back to GB so that no so trouble for my office phone.
thanks in advance.
It's easy enough to do but understandably a little nerve racking at first.
You'll find all you need in Dr. Ketan's Stock ROM thread.. As well as full step by step instructions on how to proceed using ODIN.

Yes, but after you need to do factory reset and wipe cache in order to eliminate leftover stuff as most gb are nonwipe.
You can do this from recovery.

u mean factory reset after flashing? (sory if noob ques)
nd if i root official ics stock ? vl i loose data
Thats ok, I had some unclear typos.
Best to flash GB and do all the factory resetting and wiping from there. Cause ICS is not save to do that.

AllianceRom is testing every bit to see if they cause hardbrick/superbrick.They release roms only if they are safe .I have been using darkyrom a.k.a alliance rom from my sgs days
Read all the threads very carefully in order to choose the right method of returning to GB. It is very important to know exactly what is currently running on your device and what was running before and how you flashed the last rom.
I bricked mine two weeks ago while doing this....coming from official ICS. After a full wipe it was over and out.

I think the safest method to going back if anything not works properly is:
1. Going back to GB:
Flash thru pc odin ** Look for the thread: STOCK ODEX PRE ROOTED ROMs and Flash: 3*Files Wipe N7000XXLC1_N7000OXALC1 Open Europe (02/03/2012). (here you will be fine all OK in 2.3.6)
then look for the thread of dr. ketan to get more info on how to install: [STOCK ROMS] N7000 All stock ROMs + install + Root guide All at 1place,Latest ICS LP9 T
After that:
2. Install ics N7000XXLPY_N7000OXALPY_N7000XXLPT_HOME.tar.md5 via mobile odin
3. reboot
4. flash kernel cf-root lpy via mobile odin
5. wipe cache and dalvyk cache..... Let reboot.
YOU'RE NOW IN STOCK ROM ICS FULL ROOTED AND CWM.
r thr ny chances of th ics bug being sirted out in near future?
is thr ny ics rom or vl thr b in th near future which dosent require abyss kernel or cf root kernel?

It will most like need a mmc chip firmware update, not sure if they can do that in a new rom or if at all.
Last news I read was this was already there on the first ICS device, the Nexus, Samsung updated the onboard chips firmware. (source hearsay, I think reliable)
Why samsung would choose to market defective firmware on newer phones is a mystery. Makes the hearsay less likely, but from the crap I have seen in any industry, its not that amazing this happens mwahahahah
Hi all,
I'm running one of the AOSP roms and I have CWM Recovery. I've decided I've had enough of playing with custom ROMS because none of them have ever delivered. Please tell me how I can go back to a stock ROM.
Thanks
Download a file from Dr. Ketan development thread and flash it with Odin.
Really easy. I too just went to rooted stock. It more stable and battery great. Haven't restart my phone in a week. No crash. I'm on stock LQ3 rom.

I am currently on CM9 rom and want to go back to stock ics for a while. I will want to return to CM at a later date.
Can I do this safely?
Do I return to stock GB and then update via OTA to ICS or is there a safe ICS stock to flash? - remembering that I will want to go back to root and CM at a later date?

I want to go back to GB but I don't know how to. I am currently running LPY ICS and an unsafe kernal, reading these huge threads just makes me even more confused to be honest.
I have Mobile ODIN PRO - is there an easy and safe way to get back using this?
Guys please observe basic forum etiquette and start your own thread if you have an unrelated question. I wouldn't hijack your thread.
I'm already on an AOSP ICS ROM (one of the unofficial versions). How do I flash back to stock safely? How do I get rid of CWM?
Thanks
Guys on the AOSP/CM9 ROM----flash a stock GB ROM via PC Odin.
The guy with the LPY ICS use PC Odin too.
The above you would have found out on your own with 2 mins worth of searching.

There is no "safe ICS stock" currently---all ICS stock kernels have the brickbug.
Best way is to go to stock GB and then via OTA---that way you can get samsung warranty service if you mess up and your phone gets bricked.Alternatively, search around in the forum for stock ICS ROMs-there ought to be a few in the dev/general section. And "where there is a rom, there is info about flashing it"

Im just stating here that I will generally know what you are talking about, im not a noob when it comes to android modding/roms/rooting, however i have always been worried with my note because ive seen lots of threads on devices being bricked.
basically i want to root my note, get CWM recovery onto it, and then flash whatever ROM/s i choose, without getting my phone bricked in the process.
i want someone to advise me on the best way to go about this whole thing, thankyou!
my device:
Samsung galaxy note (not sure if international or not, i bought from kogan.com.au, i live in australia, and have a telstra sim in it, however i think kogan ships the intl model)
android version: 4.0.3 ICS (stock)
baseband: N7000XXLPT
KERNEL VERSION: 3.0.15-N7000XXLPY-CL474507
BUILD NUMBER: IML74K.XXLPY
carrier: telstra (prepaid, and phone is unlocked)
the main confusion i have here is finding the correct threads for my kernel version, however i couldnt find what i wanted, and was unsure of which was safest, so thanks all for helping me out!

Hello Good Dr. I am about to try rooting via method 1.Rooting with stock recovery. After this am i correct in saying I should flash notecore kernel ? I would be using Mobile Odin to do this as I dont have Windows PC.
What would be safest method to get to ParanoidAndroid JB or CM10 JB from there ? After the Kernel is flashed. Would I have to downgrade to pre-rooted GB rom first then flash ParanoidAndroid ? So your method 1 > flash kernel > downgrade to pre-rooted GB rom > ParanoidAndroid ?
Kind Thanks.
If you want to downgrade to prerooted rom then no need to get root, except you have no option to use pc. In this condition just root n use mobile odin to flash prerooted rom. After successful flashing wipe cache n data and flash cusyom ROM.

So please just to clarify Dr.ketan. If I follow your method 1 to root my ICS Note and then I flash safe notecore kernel via Mobile Odin then I could flash ANY custom rom ? No need to flash a pre-rooted GB rom ? If this is correct would I need to wipe cache and data before flashing custom rom ? Please could you clarify which cache I should wipe ?
Thank you very much.
[Resolved via DM. Thanks Dr.Katan]
After flashing note core.you can.flash custom rom if that is ics based.
Otherwise i recommend to flash preroored gb rom first and wipe all (cache, data and delvic cache)

Hello dear friends,
I'm just a newbie here, so please be patient ...
1) I'm planning to root+CWM my n7000 and also (and finally) want to flash CM9.1 (stable) on it. Right now I'm on GB 2.3.6 (not directly rootable) it's ZSLA2... for what I understand from Dr. Ketan's rooting guide is that I have to first downgrade the device flashing a pre-rooted+CWM'ed GB ROM from Chainfire..... ok, no problem.... but, my main question is: once I already have this pre-rooted gingerbread rom, can I (must I) do a hard reset/wipe prior to flash a custom rom?... and, can I FINALLY and DIRECTLY flash the CM9.1 + Gapps files from that chainfire's gingerbread rom version/kernel?... or do I have to upgrade again to a new GB ROM and then flash the CM?.... or even further: do I have to upgrade to a newer GB ROM then to an ICS ROM and only then I would can flash the CM file??....
2) The obligated dumb question: Once I finally flash CM9.1 ROM, it's a must (or a recommended practice) to flash a safe kernel like Franco, Speedmod, Notecore (for safety and/or performance)??
Thank you for your time! cheers

1. always advisable to do all three wipes ( data , cache, dalvik) in CWM if you are on GB and planning to flash another rom from there.
--- yes, you can directly go from pre-rooted Gb to CM 9.1 with g apps
--- when you are on CM and want to go to a custom ics then best to follow the method specified in opening post of the rom thread by developer. all CM kernels are safe to wipe and flash from generally...
2 . Franco , notecore, speedmod are all Touchwiz kernels. a CM rom will not boot with it, its not compatible.there are other CM kernels available that you can use with it, refer kernel repository by Chasmodo

TW and Cm roms have varied/different and many simillar features
you must read through the rom threads for identifying them and choose your rom accordingly
I'm sorry if this question has been answered before, but I couldn't find it by searching.
I'm running 4.0.4 rooted, and would like to unroot it since I have to take my Note to be fixed on warranty. I rooted with temporary CWM and because it's considered to be dangerous now, can I run the Unroot_SuperUser-Busybox-Uninstaller-Update2-signed.zip from Dr. Ketan's root/unroot thread from stock recovery ?
Just wanted to make sure before I do anything stupid. And yes, I know I could flash to stock GB, wipe and flash to stock ICS but if I could unroot straight from recovery it would be a lot easier. Thanks in advance.
Yes you can, but remember if you have flashed custim kernel then first replace with stock. As well if you have update supersu from market, then first uninstall that from setting -appl -all

Take it easy, you're fine. If you've installed HydraCore it means you're on a safe kernel. Just download pc Odin if you haven't already.
What rom do you want to go to? I'd recommend for safest operation, install gb stock, then look at upgrade but it depends on which rom you want to flash.
Emmc bug is only triggered on stock kernels or under some cwm flashes which most people don't do, so take it easy, you're ok.

1. Flash hydracore kernel.
2. Reboot recovery.
3. Make sure you are on hydracore kernel.
4. Do what ever you want.
If you still being scare of doing this. Just follow jeetu suggestion. Go back to gb pre rooted rom by using pc odin. Then use mobile odin to flash rooted kernel. After get full root, go recovery and flash cm9. Done.

Flashing Hydracore doesn't affect root, you will be rooted and can flash PA directly using cwmr after flashing hydracore.

I would recommend you go with the long route of installing stock GB first. I saw the installation instructions of PA (i'm not sure though if that's an outdated tutorial or if it's still the current one to date), but it explicitly tells you that you need to be on stock GB before installing PA. I'm open to corrections though from those who have PA already installed but personally,it would be good if you start from scratch and work your way up to eventually install PA.
That's just my advice to you.
Hi,
I got a question, I have flashed the kernel to the hydracore one, have root and CWM but I am still on the ICS stock ROM. Is it possible to go directly to paranoid one without the need to downgrade to GB ?
By the way, can you provide a link to dl paranoid ?
Thank you in advance for your answer.

By the way, can you provide a link to dl paranoid ?
Thank you in advance for your answer.

Yeah you can flash paranoid straight... Download GApps and the rom from original development section.. Remember perform all the wipes before flashing

Ok but as I can see the ROM is only 160 MB as other ROM (stock for example are almost 700MB), I don't want to lose some essential functionalities by flashing to an incomplete ROM. How to know which file to dl from the Gapps is there on this one that you have the 500 MB missing ?
Thanks again and sorry for my poor knowledge
All aosp roms are that size.. It's a completely different experience as aosp roms are pure Google experience with no Samsung or any other retailers custom launcher and bloat..
It depends on Wich functionalities do you have in mind?

Ok thanks so they put a lot of useless heavy crap inside I guess
I am still struggling to have a download link for a stable zip file to flash, is it possible to have a link ?
Thank you
I've downloaded the rom in the past no issues.. Don't know about mirrors.. Maybe ask there in the ParanoidAndroid threat

hi guys!!
first of all, I searched and found a lot of confusing information and I'm hoping someone can help me directly like this...
I have a rooted P1000 running froyo:
baseband P1000XXJPZ
kernel 2.6.32.9 [email protected]#1
build FROYO.XWJMK
I downloaded the SGT bootloader patch app found on xda and it says:
device: GT-P1000 european/international/unbranded
bootloaders - signed!
signed: PBL, SBL, kernel
not signed: SBL_backup
assessment: can only flash signed firmwares
and it gives me the option to patch bootloaders
if I understand correctly, I can flash cf-root kernel via odin and get cwm and then flash any rom?
if so, what about the bootloaders and the right cf-root to download?
most of all, my goal is to upgrade my tab...the tv out function is a must for me so the ics and jb are out, right? if I understand right, the tv out feature doesn't work with them?
what about gingerbread and honeycomb?
what to do?
please help and thank you for reading

I saw that, but that doesnt answer my questions..
does the tv out work?
how do I get cwm?
and is it safe to do what it takes considering the model and the specs I wrote above?
I don't know if tv works.
For instructions about cwm go to cyanogen mod wiki!

thanks for that
do you know is it safe considering the bootloaders and froyo on my tab?
in your other thread you read about using overcome method.
The GB stock safe v5 rom files contains GB bootloader.
By flashing that you shall have GB bootloader and from then on you are good.
It is still best to upgrade to GB before installing CWM by any means you choose (although overcome kernel on top of GB stock safe v5 is the safest and sure way).
And please don't run the bootloader patcher once you are on GB based.

great, thanks!
one more thing, do I have to patch the bootloader first with that app while on froyo?
and if I run that method, I'll have GB on my tab, right?
is it stock GB or a modified rom? I'm asking to see if the tv out function will work...
thanks again
You should be able to flash gb without patching.
Because the package is a stock gb Rom jq1 ( Italian).
You may want to go all the way to overcome Rom 4.1 by following the complete guide to the end.
That will be a modified Rom and tv out working.
