1) which ics roms r safer as of now?
2) is criskelo rom safe?
The latest stock ROMS that came out last month or so I've heard. They say brick issue is solved now with the CFROOT 5.6.Can't confirm though I wish someone could.
All cyanogenmod roms are said to have a kernel that's "safe" from the brick bug and the aosp ui of cyanogenmod roms greatly trump in comparison to the touchwiz ui!
I'd recommend CM9 roms as they're free from the brick bug.

As long as you flash abyss kernel before you flash the rom, you ll be fine. Also with the rom make sure you run a safe ketnel like franco, speedmod and a few mirea

Hello,
Right now, my Galaxy Note is running a rooted version Samsung ICS:
Android Version: 4.0.3
Baseband Version: N7000XXLPT
Kernel Version: 3.0.150N7000XXLPY-CL474507
Build Number: IML74K.XXLPY
I'd like to try CM10, but I've been reading a lot of issues from people flashing ROMs from Samsung ICS. What would be the safest way to install CM10? Should I downgrade to a Samsung Gingerbread ROM first? What procedure would you guys recommend?
Thanks,
Tiago
It is important to downgrade first to samsung stock GB.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JO93XJ2C8pc&feature=plcp
Follow his instructions to a tee and you should be good to go.
The youtube video is courtesy of aphroditelikesme(all credits to the dude, as I constantly subscribed to his youtube videos)
Don't forget to hit the 'Thank's button if I have helped you in some way or the other.
Thanks a lot!
But should I flash a stock Samsung GB ROM or a rooted GB ROM? Should I use CWM or Odin to flash GB?

you can flash the pre rooted GB rom by Chainfire...then flash the cf kernel....do a full wipe and then just flash CM10. Find the procedure here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1331784
Go to section 1.3 and u find the way....hope it helps....:good:
Flash it to stock GB
here's the other link for the video.. again all courtesy to the creator of that video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jr3DDEh8vyc
There's also the links of the ROM (choose checkROM GB or RocketROM) and the kernel you need to download.
Just follow his video bud, (I'm following his video for flashing roms and I never miss going back to this video to downgrade to GB)
Cheers!
I see. So flashing Abyss kernel from Samsung ICS (LPY kernel) using CWM is actually safe? I just want to be sure because I've seen many people advising not to use CWM at all if you are on a Samsung ICS ROM.
abysskernel is not an infected kernel, that is why mostly when your going to downgrade to gingerbread.. most flashers will tell you to flash first to abysskernel then flash the GB rom after.

OK, I flashed Abyss kernel (worked fine), rebooted recovery, made a full wipe, flashed Rocket ROM and rebooted the system. I see the boot animation, but after that, nothing happens (blank screen). I've waited over 5 minutes, but the ROM doesn't boot. Anything else I can try?
I'm f*cking tired of explaining this over and over again...MY GOD!! You could've just read the CM9 installation instructions, CHECKED OUT THE STICKIES, ANYTHING LIKE THAT!
THE ONLY 100% SAFE WAY TO GET RID OF AN INFECTED KERNEL IS TO FLASH TO GB THROUGH PC ODIN!! Why the F*CK does everyone prefer to flash abyss and take that risk...!?
IF!! You're confident that RocketRom flashed correctly, you could probably full wipe (AGAIN) from recovery (you'd be on a safe kernel) and that should solve your problem...
Wait for a 2nd opinion though...

You guys got me worried for a second. I guess I just had a bad download of Rocket ROM after all.

Glad it worked. Going back to GB is just a myth. If you have a safe kernel to flash from, then use it.

I have recently switched to droid from iOS and I am very confused about rooting.
I have NoteCore kernel on 4.0.4 and I am looking for a custom ROM to flash
I don't know anything about roms and I was only following a guide when I got NoteCore so a good explanation along with ROMs would be good
I want to know what is the best rom for a galaxy note in your opinion, I am not really looking for much. just it has to be quick and have S pen support (I dunno if all roms have that)
also any other cool stuff to add to my note
sorry for all these questions but iOS has so little customization I am just used to everything being served on a plate
many thanks, razzile
(sorry if this is in the wrong section)

I think you can find good info if you search root galaxy note.
Read my thread and i'll be happy to hear from you my friend

if you are on Notecore kernel, you must be already rooted and have CWM and notecore is a safe kernel too.
so you can go about flash custom roms.
here is a list of roms that you can choose from
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1847786
read the reviews and features .. "my best might not be your best"
Well its accourding to your taste you have to try touchwiz ROM like alliance or ultimate or cyanogenmode like asylum (the best for now) then you will decide touchwiz or CM Every one of them have a dozens of custom roms

If you are new to android I would stick to a stock ICS rom with PhilZ kernel until you feel comfortable with how android works. In my opinion the leaked JB roms are not recommendable for a beginner, they still contain bugs. And I would not directly go to a custom rom too because it takes at least som knowledge to fix the problems you might encounter. With a stock ICS rom.in combination with the PhilZ kernel you have root rights, CWM to nand backups (system images),.everything you need for a good android experience. That's a good base to start. And as soon as you get to know the os better you can start using custom roms if you like.

Hey... It seems I have been long gone from the forums and had a hard time trawling through everything..
Now right now.. I'm using my galaxy note with
Baseband version N7000XXKK5
ROM - Antoniomistrettaa XXKK 9
Kernel - cf root kernel
My simple question is -
Which is the best ICS based ROM for normal usage and good battery life...
I just want a rock solid surprise stable ROM & kernel... But the choices are confusing... Please help...
And how do I go about this... Considering I'm still on 2.3.6

A noob proof guide will be most welcome...
(although I'm a senior member, but I'm totally out of touch since a long time)
And can I just upgrade normally?
And do all the common (daily use apps) apps and common big name title games work nicely?
Sorry if I'm apprehensive
EDIT - some big name alternatives to rocket rom will also be appreciated... Btw.. I have seen this forum & rocket rom since the inception... Although I couldn't participate due to some reasons...
Are the miui roms stable and have good compatibility?
And which JB/ICS rom is best of everyday aside from rocket rom...
Some links will be greatly appreciated...

First flash a philz kernel. These are rooted stock but use the ics 3.99 version.
Philz kernel can be flashed from stock recovery. Its in the original developer tread.
Then you can flash rrv12 ics. With full wipe.
Personaly im on jb lsz official rooted rom for the netherlands. Which is good and stable.
Have fun flashing.

Re: Help.... Firmware frenzy,
Make a backup with titanium but dont restore system data or settings only user apps.
Flash a kernel from philz the 4.88.4 is the latest i know of. Then flash whatever rom you like.
When flashing the rom the kernel will also be overwritten.
Rr v12 ics is fast and stable. I always used hydracore 4.3b oc.
Or try a samsung original jb rom but flash a philz kernel after the rom to get root.
The choice is up to you.

Hello. i want to sure not to mess with my father's not rooted galaxy note gt-n7000 so my questoin maybe lame but i had a bad experience rooting gs2 and without
i need to know what is the best and the safest kernel for the note. and best custom rom 4.1.2 based on touchwiz
i alredy downloaded Kernel_CM10.1_20130320_n7000_CWM.zip from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1789397 this will work fine ?
Thank you
If you flash that kernel you will have boot loop for sure that is a cm10.1 ROM kernel not touchwiz. And you have to be rooted to flash. I don't mess with toichwiz to much I use a cm10.1 ROM I build my self and theme my self but in the terms of kernels for touchwiz look into philz kernels they are safe and I do believe they can be flashed from stock recovery and will root the phone. As for ROMs they are all safe. JUST DONT FLASH ANY ROMS FROM STOCK ICS KERNELS. and also if you look into the how to root part of the ROM forum you will find a lot of info. Then just research the different ROMs to see which one is right for your use.
