Is something wrong with me for wanting a Nexus 7? - Nexus 7 General

Perhaps someone can help me but I seem to have this quest for any shiny new tablet, I have had several Tablet from the Archos 70, HTC FLyer through to Samsung Galaxy Tab 7 to 10.1" and have kept them from couple of weeks to few months before the novelty wears out, but I just could not resist the nexus when it was announced that I had to pre-order 2!! just in-case.
I keep asking myself if I really need one and I am trying to find a use/excuse for one... nonetheless I ll still buy one if only to root and install ad-blocker so that I can play Angry Bird Ad Free!!!.

Buy the Nexus 7 to run the Eliza Android app. (google it)
It will help analyze why you have this abnormal fixation with shiny new gadgets.
Good luck on finding a cure!

Well to me if you did not like or did not have a use for the Galaxy Tab 7 the Nexus 7 will be the same aside from the better processor.
But only time will tell really as we cant really tell you what YOU will like
what makes you turn away from the tablets your buy? Is it that your phone is so much easier to use or is it that bezel :silly:

If you have the disposable income and it's not hurting anything then why worry about it? I've had the iPad 1, iPad 2, Nook Color, Nook Tablet, Nook Touch, Galaxy Tab 7+, and the Galaxy Tab 8.9. I end up either reselling them or giving them away when I'm done with them, and I pre-ordered the Nexus 7 without any hesitation.

Yes there is something wrong with you, and for you to post here you must be conscious of that matter...to feel normal I recommend you give the one to me so we can form a circle of gadget addicts lol
On a serious note, just enjoy it

I've got a 32GB iPad 2 and I'm considering selling it and buying a Nexus 7. By the time I've bought the N7 and paid shipping, I wouldn't have much cash left from what my iPad sold for.
But ... that shiny, shiny new toy!

Because it is a tablet made by Google running the latest version of the greatest mobile os in the universe.--- that alone did it for me ...per ordered mine last Friday
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app

If you do not mind relying on cloud storage, or mainly stream media, read books and browse the Web, the N7 is solid. I will stick with the View 32gb with a 64gb card, since still a nice tab.
I have the TF300 too, so less compelled. Must admit I would have bought one though if had micro sd.

Yes, there is something seriously wrong with you. To help alleviate your issue, send me your N7 & after receiving said N7 from you. I'll perform my mumbo jumbo on you & I'll even throw in signed certification, stating your issue has been resolved. :silly:

$200 for a wifi tab with only 8gb.I can justify the no camera, the no LTE or even
HSPA+, the 7" form factor, and the no super ips I really want one. But the no SD is a deal breaker and seriously, **** Tegra. I want a quad core krait or even an exynos. And Google's developer device gunning for the kindle fire is a quiet acknowledgment that iPad owns the 10" segment.

I have a 15 " MacBook pro (for school) my old laptop running Windows 8 just for fun, then I have a Asus transformer tf101 with dock for portable productivity, Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7" , and Samsung Galaxy s II . I will probably sell the 7"Samsung since its only dual core and has the 10" tablet UI which really is not great on a smaller tablet. So I am really excited about the "hybrid UI" as Google called on the nexus 7.
Sent from my GT-P3113 using XDA Premium HD app

What the OS needs is a TON of installed user base, so that developers get rewarded for the time, in a way close to the iOS. Selling a lot of quad core systems for $199 will hopefully show numbers of installed base that wake some people up. If it sells as well as it should, your going to want a Tegra3 device at that resolution because that is what everything will target.
For example, I saw a post that one of the game dev's who have ignored TFP compatibility is now saying they will be developing for the N7.
I expect my TFP 201 to benefit somewhat from the sales numbers this should do, given the hardware is basically the same. Also given ASUS made the thing, I would imagine getting JB faster than most on the prime will be a near sure thing.

Just sold my iPad. Should I get a Galaxy Tab now?

I just sold off my iPad (16 GB Wifi first generation) to a friend and was wondering whether it would be worth getting the Samsung Galaxy Tab this late in the game. (It would be either Sprint or Verizon.) What do you think or hold off for another one?
It depends on your needs, if you want a good 7 inches tablet then the gtab is a good choice. But if size doesn't matter for you then wait for the gtab 10.1 this June.
I love the 7 inches gtab, it's a good size for reading books and good to have it everywhere. 10 inches is only good at home. Plus I can make phone calls with my euro gsm gtab.

How much did you ask for it? I have a mint 16GB Wifi as well and was wanting to upgrade to the 2.
CDN pls.......
I sold my iPad for 350 USD. So basically my iPhone 4 replaced the iPad. I prefer Android for bigger devices.
Then wait for the galaxy tab 10.1, before making a choice if you can. It looks nice. It will be out June 8th.

It's funny, I still think my Tab is great - I still use it more than my Eee Pad Transformer! Isn't your Tab still stock though?
When I bought my Tab it was £500, and it was slightly overpriced IMO. However, if the Flyer is really coming in at £599, and with the mooted battery life, it just isn't worth it getting. I'd rather look at the Acer Iconia A100, but Tegra-2 is poor at video playback compared to the Hummingbird in the Tab.

Dave
Okay I ended getting the Verizon Galaxy Tab. Thanks!

How many Kindle Fire and Nook owners bought the Nexus 7?

Sent from my Amazon Kindle Fire using xda app-developers app
The Kindle Fire's lack of Bluetooth, GPS, hepatic feedback, compass, and camera have always been a disappointment, but it was easy to rationalize these missing features because of the price (except for the lack of Bluetooth, because that could have been implemented at no extra cost) When I saw the specifications for the Nexus 7 Tablet, I bought one immediately because it was everything that the Kindle isn't.

Most kindle fire owners won't know what the nexus 7" is & are probably loyal to amazon ecosystem. Now the geeks on the other hand are another story.

You could try listing it on the Singapore Craigslist.
Had a Nook Tablet (and previously a Color) but sold it when development of the 3.x kernel kinda ran into roadblocks and stalled.
In for 1 Nexus 7 8 gb, though. 7" makes a great portable video viewer & the price is right for an otg toy....
I have an iPad 64GB wifi+4G, I bought a Nook Tablet to see how I liked the 7" form factor, I ended up real liking the 7" size very much over my iPad but wanted a more standard Google experience. I was able to tweak the NT to where I was almost happy but ended up returning it when I heard about the ASUS ME370T that was going to come out with ICS 4.0. So I've been waiting for this tablet since January.
Why would I want this when I already have an iPad? My iPad cost me $900 including the "Smart Cover", and I have left it at restuarants a few times already, luckily returning to find it turned in @ the register. I am tired of worrying about something happening to my expensive primary computer. My iPad has become the only device I find myself using 95 percent of the time, & the other 5 percent I'm using it to control a PC using the LogMeIn App. I also found out with the NT that I really like a 7" device, as it is way more portable and much easier to hold. I've noticed that when I use my iPad I always prop it up on a surface & use it and rarely hold it in my hands. With the NT I found myself holding it more and using it in more positions than I'd ever used my iPad in. I am looking forward to getting my N7, just wish it still had microSD & HDMI like ASUS said back in January.
So when my N7 arrives it will be my portable computing device & my iPad will become my new desktop/home computer. Will work out nicely now that I can use Chrome on both have my tabs sync'd between the two.
Just a note, if they'd (Google & ASUS) have left the HDMI & microSD port in I could have hooked up my N7 to my monitor, keyboard & mouse, SDHC, and truly used it as my desktop as well & sold my iPad and completely converted over to the Google/Android ecosphere. But as Google has seen fit to remove these coveted ports, I will be retaining my iPad @ least until I can get my hands on a Microsoft Surface which I may use as my main computing device.

How many Galaxy Nexus owners bought a Nexus 7?

Not sure if I have buyer's remorse, but the Nexus 7 seems a little redundant to have if I already own a Galaxy Nexus. Considering the screen size is only 2" bigger, not really sure how much I'm gaining.
I already have a Touchpad, so that only adds to the redundancy...
I would have said you are truly blessed...
The Nexus for tethering, and the Nexus 7 for a far better reading / movie experience, not to mention web browsing.
When you get your tablet, come back and let us know how you like the pair.
I've already got a Galaxy Nexus, a Transformer Prime, and a Nook Color. Talk about redundancy, lol.
I wasn't planning on getting the Nexus 7, but the Nook Color just isn't doing it for me as a carputer anymore, so I'm giving it the boot in favor of the 7. Should be fun.

Me too. Should be good. Haha. I'd be even more happy if it was a 10" tab.
I'm pretty excited about both devices having NFC. I'm planning on setting up my GNex & N7 so that I just get in my car and bump them together to get everything ready to go:
- Enable hotspot on the phone
- Turn on WiFi on the tablet
- Turn on bluetooth on the tablet (for connection to car stereo, torque, etc)
- Launch Torque on the tablet
- etc.
There are probably apps that could do all this, but I think I might build something small and lightweight myself just to play around with NFC.

Do you still use or miss your old Transformer Prime?

Do you still use your TF201? Or miss it if you sold it?
I bought the TF201 with keyboard dock in mid February. I was, like every other Prime owner, very stoked to own one. The most powerful and expensive Android tablet, first with Tegra 3, ICS, keyboard dock, etc. I loved blowing peoples minds when I'd pull the screen apart from the keyboard. It was like my second child.
I sold that thing as soon as the Nexus 7 started shipping. I was hesitant at first because I kept thinking about how going from a Prime to a 7" with NO ports, no camera, no storage expansion, would be a downgrade.
So, I realized that any other tablet that was out around the beginning of July was just blah to me. The only thing better than the Prime was the Asus Infinity, and it was just a Prime with a higher res screen. Meh.
I got my Nexus 7 and do not miss the Prime one bit. Between the **** WiFi and GPS, and the bug ridden software, and the fact that I got this kick ass piece of N7 tech for $200, I feel like I got raped on the Prime.
The only way I might possibly use the Prime if I still had it, would be to play Asphalt 7 or Dead Trigger via HDMI on my TV. Other than that, don't miss her at all!
The Nexus 7 is something fresh, and it does deserve all the praise it's getting. When I can honestly say that I prefer the $200 Nexus over a $650 high end flagship device, I call that an epic frickin win!
Do you miss your Transformer?!
Hell no man. I am in the same boat as you. I am finding the 7 inch form factor with the Logitech BT keyboard is a killer combo.
I only miss the micro SD and HDMI. But the price difference and usability far make up for those things fortunately. And I have mine rooted with stickmount so I can use SD cards and what not so that helps.

Lol nice! Yea between the 7" size and me actually buying some music, magazines, and books because of the $25 credit, I'm using my Nexus for more and more, and using it differently than all my other tablets. I also think it kicks the Primes ass in performance, and I flashed every TF201 ROM/kernel/mod there is. But comparing both out of the box I think N7 gets it.
I'm so happy with the Nexus, I have no plans (yet) to even root, unlock, or flash Roms. And I'm a flash whore
I have to admit, I do want to enable the full tablet UI on the Nexus. So right now that would be the only reason to root.
Just curious...since there are a few different ways to root, which method did you use?
I hated my Prime with a passion. The only thing I hated more than my Prime was my Xoom. It felt cheap and was plagued with bugs. It was the, dare I say Prime of the android tablets, but that wasn't saying much at all. Sold both of them and got the retina iPad and although it was running iOS it was a much much much better tablet experience. It is my new baby and doesn't let me down. I had turned away from android (/in tablets not in phones I love my Galaxy Nexus) and wasn't ever going to look back. That was until the Nexus 7 launched. I mean I back during the rumors I always felt I was going to get one I mean a sub $200 Nexus branded 7 inch tablet what Android enthusiast wouldn't, right? Well, I was blown away by the Google Nexus 7 announcement at IO and ordered it a few minutes after I could. I got it and I love it. It doesn't feel like a stale old android tablet at all and I think Jelly Bean and Project Butter are the main reasons.
I still have my iPad around and it is still my favorite tablet, but the Nexus is great for reading and the Dev community is going to be great. I'm still not a giant fan of ASUS hardware, but this feels much better built than the Prime any day. The display isn't the greatest especially when having the better than great retina, but those are small things I can get over especially considering the cost. The only thing I'm really having a rough time with is the same thing I've always had a rough time with android and that's the severe lack of not just tablet apps but apps in general. I hate to beat a dead horse, but after months with iOS and the great apps and developers on that platform it feels like taking a giant leap backwards. I mean the 7 inch form factor does make the apps better than on any 10 inch tablet but still it just feels stale. Right now its just a great toy, excellent ereader and developer device as I continue to learn to code. Let's hope the popularity of this device brings some great apps. I'm glad you are all loving your Nexus 7 as much as I have.

Its a Nexus man just plug it in and cd to the SDK and type fastboot oem unlock. Unlock your device. Through fastboot flash your recovery and install superuser and your good to go. No exploits to worry bout at all. It was the first thing I did when pulling it out of the box. I'm still running the stock out of the box 4.1.1 software image, but that's because it is so great. Mine was a little laggy while flipping through home screens so I'm running Apex launcher and that is honestly all I've done. Its been great and Jelly Bean really is much better than ICS and I won't use any phone or tablet unless it is the Nexus branded type. I just can't stand the bastardized skins and being always at least one full android version behind.

I hear ya. When I went to buy a new tablet in February, I was told that Primes couldn't even be ordered at the time. So I went thru 3 tablets in 9 days. When I went to exchange the 3rd tab for something else, there was nothing else. I actually considered just buying an iPad, but being a hardcore fandroid, I didn't. I was then told I could order a Prime so I did. Happy as can be for a few months. Well, last week the wife brought home her company iPad 3, and yes, it was very nice. Long story short, I sold my Prime for $460, bought an 8GB Nexus 7, and a mint black 16GB iPad 2 off Craigslist for $225 We now have a Kindle fire, Samsung GTab 8.9, Nexus 7, HTC Hero S, and a lonely iPad.

I have the original transformer tablet and am keeping it mostly due to use of news360 app. So basically my 10" transformer has turned into a sitting on the coffee table in a stand dedicated news360 newsreader while my 7 does everything else.

I was hesitant at first to give up all the Primes premium features, like the HDMI,camera,SD slots, but I realized I never used them that much. I don't regret my choice one bit. Especially since I just installed the camera launcher app, just in case I need to capture a shot of my 2 year old daughter. Love my sexus Nexus
I had two primes, ASUS bought them back from me, and I don't miss them. One of them had the glass cracking while docked problem, and I did not trust that the second one would not do the same thing. Too expensive of a device for all it's short comings. I now have three 7's in the family. Good little units, only problems is the left side screen lift issues.
Shame on ASUS they need a better assembly/quality control process.....
i still have my prime. unlocked and running Androwook 2.1 with motley alpha kernel with overclock. its been running great. i will say i find myself using the nexus 7 more often. this device more than exceeded my expectations on it. it runs great. i have it unlocked also. running stock jb rom with motley linaro kernel with GPU & CPU overclock. runs like a champ. i would never get rid of my prime just to get a nexus. ill keep both ill eventually pass off the prime and get something else to replace it down the road.
Sold my prime and KB dock right away. Don't miss it at all.

I don't miss it because I didn't have one at the first place
I had the iPad 3 and still keeping it along with nexus 7. I use to have galaxy tab 10.1 last year which I sold this year in feb and I don't miss it at all. As a matter of fact I was very happy after selling it along with dock, TV out cable case etc etc. I bought amazon kindle in feb just to avail the prime service. I also sold my iPad 2 and bought iPad 3. I gave my kindle to my 6 years old sun as soon as I ordered nexus 7.

Mine's sitting on the shelf waiting for the tf700 to come out in the uk before I try to take it back and swap it, then sell it, I think.

Nice that is one hell of a trade if you ask me. You basically traded the Prime (which is not a great tablet in my opinion after own in about 5 months) for the two best tablets on the market. I love my combination of retina iPad and Nexus 7. I honestly use them both all the time. My Galaxy Nexus has pretty much been a dedicated LTE hotspot, my iPhone 4s my texting and phone, and my Macbook Pro basically just sits there with my PS Vita. After a year and a half with the Xoom and Prime I kick myself for not just getting an iPad 2, but it makes me appreciate both my tablets all the much more now. Android tablets really aren't that great at all and Google sees that and is making an attempt to fix the wrongs the OEMs have done over the past year and a half.
I love my Nexus for reading it is the perfect size and weight. The only things I would change is the display to one comparable to the displays apple uses and the extreme lack of apps. Honestly though I can deal with that as it is only $200 and to be honest if I'm going to use apps I will use them on my retina iPad. There is no comparison when it comes to android vs apple on the application front. I hope that changes, but for now its something we have to deal with.

This is basically what I'm doing. I bought my Nexus 7 mostly for reading and keeping my retina iPad for my main device. The Nexus 7 has been giving it a run for its money though.

Hell, I wish I had a transformer prime! When my iPad 2 goes to gadget Valhalla, I might just invest in a nice 10" tablet if I have the cash to spare. There's no such thing as too much computers!

Your all talking about selling the prime, unless you need the money, wait until aosp/cm10 has come a bit further, unlock that ***** and throw jelly bean on it....that'll really unlock the potential of it. It's still a great device its just severly handicapped by Asus making us practically beta testers.
The N7 is soooo great tho, I can't put it down

I am uncertain as to what I would do with more than the 600,000 apps provided to me by the android ecosystem and therefore see no reason to spend excess money on an apple product. In other news, I have been pretty much consistently hands on the nexus 7 since I got it last Tuesday.

I still use my 201 for some things. Docked it totally replaced a laptop and I love it. Still, 10” is a bit on the heavy side for couchsurfing.
I use all of my and Android devices for different things... Like Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 7 and Transformer Prime covers every thing.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 or Asus Nexus 7

Hey guys. I was interested in getting your opinions on a plan of mine. I've had a Galaxy Tab 10.1 for a year now and I use it mostly for content consumption, browsing during flights, etc. I haven't really used it to watch movies, mostly just read articles on Pulse. Now on Ebay, I could definitely get at least 200 dollars for my tablet, most likely 250-300. My question is, do you think it's a good idea to sell my tab and buy the nexus 7? I currently have a Galaxy Nexus on Verizon that's rooted because Verizon takes too long to update, but If I got a Nexus 7, I'm not sure if I would even root it, because it is an official AOSP device. Also, do you think the transition to a smaller screen size will really affect me? Please let me know what you guys think. Thanks
P.S: I need to either make a net gain or break even, so please don't suggest tablets that are more than 350 bucks.
Yes, buy a nexus 7.

Look into the tf700 or tf300. I have both and in my opinion they are two of the best tablets out there and JB is already being released on the tf300.

You have to much $ and need to learn to be generous once in your capitalist life....
I had a Transformer Prime with a 10.1 inch screen before I returned it for a Nexus 7. I actually prefer the 7 inch screen as opposed to the 10.1 inch one. I don't know how good your user experience has been with the Galaxy Tab, but I really did not like my Transformer that much. I love my Nexus 7 and think it is definitely the best tablet choice right now.

I've a Galaxy Tab 8.9, Sony Tablet S and the awesome piece of gadgetry that is the Nexus 7. I haven't touched my other Tablets since I got the 7. Infact, the Sony Tablet S is now, along with it's cradle, nothing but an alarm clock and storage device (thanks to 64gb storage) for me. The nexus outperforms my sisters iPad 2 too. I do however think you should root it anyway. I rooted mine as soon as I unboxed it, the Nexus 7 Toolkit is extremely simple. Some of the kernels people have created are outstanding, definitely worth the root.
