What's the difference between the quick reboot the phone makes when it freezes and a manual phone off and on reboot? One takes longer than the other but what's the difference?

When the device hangs and reboots then only the system is restarted. But when you power off and/or do a manual restart, the hardware is powered off and rebooted.

Uhm. Just curious. In reboot option in CM there are 3 choices. What does bootloader do? Haven't tried that yet as something might happen as the name is kinda complicated.
Sent from my GT-S5830 using xda premium
Bootloader is a piece of code that runs before any operating system is running.
Bootloader are used to boot other operating systems, usually each operating system has a set of bootloaders specific for it.
Bootloaders usually contain several ways to boot the OS kernel and also contain commands for debugging and/or modifying the kernel environment.

Unfortunately the Galaxy Ace doesn't have a bootloader
"As a friend, just....put an end to me." - Ventus
Bootloader reboot-Download mode
And ace has bootloader(inspite of TARGET_NO_BOOTLOADER := true)
It is just on a different partition like the efs thing i suppose.Sammy went Other way this time. And for those who say ace doesnt have bootloader care to explain me that why we need to be on Gingerbread to flash a GB custom rom?

Wow, didn't think this thread would get this much attention xD.
But I don't understand how system is restarted. When the phone lags and it says "System isn't responding" I tap "Force Close" and nothing happens. Isn't it the same thing as when it reboots?
IMO,There is no difference in both reboots except one is manually induced other is when all/most NAND gates of processor are busy/RAM is very low.Our hardware is always connected to battery and it is only a transistor(IC may be)That cuts the supply from other parts of board BUT NOT PROCESSOR which requires to run few codes(bootloader)When u press the on button. This is the reason when a full charged phone is switched off for long time it tends to loose battery charge.
And about system is not responding,System=Framework-res.apk.Like any other app sometimes Framework also fc's.

I had a rooted stock ROM, and I flashed a kernel that did not work with ROM I guess and when I booted, it went to the soft brick screen, white vibrant, so I put it into download mode. tried flashing stock ROM, now it is stuck on the phone computer screen, but I can still get it into download mode

I got to pull the battery and then try to boot the phone up again. When it finally boots up. It will start rebooting itself over and over again. This happen only when I use Odin. It used to work flawless, then out the blue this **** started. Any help out there?

Make sure you are also putting the pit/tar files in their proper boxes.

You need to set up Odin with the Pit and Tar file, then hold the volume up/down and power button until the phone to computer screen comes up for the second time. As soon as it does plug in the USB cord. It will still be at that screen which is normal. You can run Odin from that screen. You should be good to go after that.

Yea! Aside from the fact I had to download Flashtool etc.
I didn't flash a kernel straight away though. I verified my phone in s1tool and it said 'SEMC' so then I continued on to step two
Which was the unlock. I ran msm_7227_semc.cmd and it was done!
It booted and s1tool had a lower case 'R's.

You only get an error in Flashtool since it can't write the kernel due to the boot loader not being unlocked.
You can actually spare you the trouble as there's no sense in trying to flash the kernel when you KNOW that the boot loader is not unlocked.

No offence, but how exactly would you, even try, to flash a kernel without having a PC? Flashing a kernel requires FlashTool, which is a PC/Mac/Linux programme.

I will be the first to tell you that I am a Noob, and yes I am prepared to be flamed.
I am having some issues with my CM9 ICS rom(pershoot) on my Galaxy tab 10.1 wifi only. I have searched the forums I posted here. I am a Marine and I have a TBI, so it makes it very hard to comprehend some things.
Issues:
1- Voice search not working. I found the apk and installed, and works until I reboot. So I have to reinstall after every boot. I need it because it is hard for me to type.
Is there a permanent fix for this?
2- Email and exchange not working. I constantly get the message about every 10 seconds. When I was uninstalling stock apps through the Android terminal app, I some how did something to effect this. I backed everything after root with Titanium pro and restored but the problem persist.
Is there a fix for this?
3- Full screen videos not working in any of my browsers. Will crash if tried.
Is this a normal bug with this Rom ?
4- My games that require tilt control, no longer works. They open and play but take on a life of their own.
Example: The Trial Extreme games and Asphault 6.
Is this a known bug or something on my part?
Please forgive me for the inconvenience of this thread. Any direct answers will be more than appreciated. Thank you in advance.

After flashing custom ROM it will say P1000.

I understand a long time ago ROM MANAGER was very bad for our ACE's. But still?
I went to http://www.clockworkmod.com/rommanager/ and Galaxy Ace is in the list.
What are they upto stating that it is compatible when it is not??
Or a we under the assumption that it is still very BAD.
Have been reading all over XDA and found alot of old threads, just wasn't too sure.
I for one, will stay clear of it!! But I have a ACE coming in the post that has been 'bricked' after trying to root, so I am hoping that this ROM MANAGER curse is no longer (if they used ROM MANAGER for some reason)
Thanks Guys
EDIT: Realised that ROM MANAGER 'is compatible' LOL hahaha BS. So CWM is compatible but flashing it through ROM MANAGER will def BRICK your ACE : ( Well most of the time anyway, something to do with overwriting download mode, which totally screws it not being able to flash with ODIN.
Still waiting for mine in the post, hopefully this is not the case.

It corrupts bootloader and so the phone fails to start.
But nowadays rom manager works with the Ace only if you have a CWM compatible kernel and CWM 5 already installed. I use Rom manager nowadays despite that it had bricked my phone last year!

And if you click a .zip file, it will automatically ask you whether you want to install it with CWM.
But you need official Cyanogenmod and CWM 5 already installed.
But be careful while using it as a wrong move could brick your phone. Make sure you know what you are doing. Most functions work fine. But rom manager is not needed much if you have CWM. It just makes usage of CWM easier!

I suspect they're doing something crazy like checksumming the system partition. That would explain also why even minor OS updates render it unusable for weeks (4.4 support? Dream on..), and it only works on a limited subset of phones.
I reckon it's possible to make one that works on most stuff but any attempt at decompiling/recompiling the APK breaks it as it also internally checks itself to make sure it's not been modified, and I haven't dug far enough to remove that check.
