So seeing as our only working wifi tether app foxfi was patched out in the .229 leak I strongly believe we have a moto spy among us reporting these things back. Anyway has anyone developed a work around for wifi tethering? Foxfi starts but has no connectivity, wifi tether app still has the same issue. Ive done the sql entitlement hack and it works great but im iffy about using the built in app as im sure its reported separate tethering usage as its designed. Thoughts?
Have you tried wifi tether app and using the ics generic profile yet? This was an easy fix on the previous releases.

I couldn't even get foxfi to work and im on .2233
Only thing ive been able to do is use pdanet with usb tether
I too am a little nervous about the sql hack.

I could never get wifi tether to work with any profile on 2233. Foxfi would give me a network to connect to but it would error out trying. I've been too lazy here lately to do the sql entitlement hack and i'm not sure I want to. Been using pdanet lately over usb.
The only tethering that I could make work with 2233 was the built in.
On 230: I just tried wifi tether and saw the network available but it gave me an error trying to connect. With foxfi it gives me an error in the app "WiFi mode has failed on your phone. Please use Bluetooth mode instead
This is really odd but foxfi just started working again after hours of it not working last night.

foxFi
FoxFi works on mine. 230
Worked fine for me on first try after installing 229, haven't installed 230 yet.

FoxFi has worked in all 3 ICS leaks for me.
I will say there are times I need to launch it, let it fail, reboot the phone and it works forever after that... but it always ends up working.
My status:
Unable to modify Tue entitlement check SQLite is unable to open DB.
WifiTether 3.1 beta 14 using Generic ICS creates hotspots but nothing is able to connect.
FoxFi failed to create hotspot, rebooted and working up to 11mb.

Can you actually verify root access? For example, go into a terminal editor and type 'su'.

I just rooted my phone last night with cm 6.0 and everything is running great. I tried installing the wifi tether apk and everyone I try makes my phone crash and reboot. I even tried barnacle with no luck either.
Any suggestions or does someone know of a working version for the Slide?
Thanks
I tried barnacle yesterday and it worked for me, I was using the legacy version, if u use the new one u have to disable wpa or something like that

I tried the new version of barnacle and disabled wpa and it won't do anything. It shows its connected but no webpages will load.
I'm rooted and trying to tether thru Open garden wifi, bluetooth and also barnacle.
None of them are working (connect to the network but no internet).
The phone still has internet but when I open the browser it takes me to the VZW tethering plans webpage
How about EasyTether, can't try it now

Same thing happened to me. I tried using the Wireless Tether for Root Users app and after running it and trying to tether a laptop, I got the VZW tethering redirect page even on the Droids browser. Had to reboot the phone to get 3G internet access back.
I think it may be something with the fact that the wireless hotspot still exists on the phone. and I'd also speculate that this may be why it's so tough to eliminate it once root was acquired. Just a thought

EasyTether seems to work, not really wifi tether (it's USB) - but it's better then nothing.

Wait until Custom Roms
Wifi tether won't work because of the motorola tethering software they have installed on that stock rom I'd imagine. Until SPRecovery is ported and Custom Roms are available to keep the Droid 3 from receiving that Verizon notice in the browser I'd think we'll have to wait for tethering unless other apps exist to circumvent that notice.
SPrecovery is ancient history from D1 days and is not likely to be ported to anything.
Koush's Clockworkmod. Bootstrap recovery is the one that will almost certainly be ported to the D3 as it has been for almost all recent Motorola devices with locked bootloaders.
This has been done, root is irrelevant but its a bit more complicated than an app download.

Just saw bdazz alluded to this, but there it it is guys.

This hack doesn't seem to work any longer. I can connect maybe for a minute or two but then VZW shuts off 3G data. I believe that they have closed this exploit.

Something else screwy must be goin on with your device. Signal issue maybe? I am writing this post tethered on the stock hotspot app with the modified radio code. This mod also works great on my Droid X2, although that one is rooted and rommed.
Stock Droid 3
No Root
Mine shows the VZW hotspot active when i run any tether apps. Odd.

Yes, PDAnet still seems to work... But I guess PDAnet just looks like any old application running on the phone?

Now that the Droid 3 has been rooted, has anyone tried any wifi tether apps?
I have tried Barnacle and Wifi Tether but neither will work. Anyone having any luck?
Are you sure Wifi Tether app isnt working? I just rooted my droid 3, and installed wifi tether, and it seems to be working.
There IS a hotspot hack out there that i read in this forum...maybe start a topic asking for Hotspot Hack Droid 3 because i know theres a couple guys that know about it on thisa forum, and a few say that its even better of an app than wifi tether or barnacle and really cool. good luck
I think the stock hotspot app is causing issues, mine keeps saying it loses 3G connectivity.. But then again I am overseas right now, so I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it.
Wish I could easily remove Mobile Hotspot and try again.. But it appears that it's integrated into Blur, so it's not as easy as freezing the APK.
Neither Barnacle or Wifi Tethering are working on my D3. Pretty sure they did not work for me prior to the recent OTA update and they still do not work. Has anyone had any luck with wifi tether on a rooted D3?
from what ive been reading, you need to do the TBH radio hack. it works no prob
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1182940
I can second, the TBH hack works sweet and is easy to do.
Neither Barnacle or WiFi Tether should work without modding the phone's radio. With the radio hack, all data used looks like mobile data whereas it does not, and thus is blocked, when using Barnacle or WiFi Tether.
I'm looking to do the wifi hack with tbh however before i got changing anything i tried to just launch the mobile hotspot on the phone to see the message that comes up and when i go to check the box to turn it on it errors out with a process.com.android error message or something like that and i havent touched any files yet.anyone have any ideas?
figured it out, guess when i restored all my settings last time, it never changed something back to the way it should have been, oh well got it going now, now to try this hack.

Once you do the TBH hack, head over to the Dev area of the D3 forum (IIRC) and get the tethering app. It's more configurable than the stock Mobile Hotspot app.
Droid 4 flashed to ICS 4.0.4 build 6.16.215 and now "wifi tether" app doesn't work
6.16.215 build with android 4.0.4 is my current setup. I used to use open garden on my lg ally with no problems. Then I get DROID 4 and open garden is blocked by vzw. So I get wifi tether. Worked flawlessly until my ics flash. Now when I start it it says "tether started with errors" then I hit show log and everything says done except for "setting ad-hoc mode" failed. It claims tether is running but I can't see its signal on any other device. I even tried to use the Bluetooth tether mode and still nothing.

This is why...
Ok so i did that but the "wifi tether" app still says ad hoc mode failed. But now i can use the actual verizon app right under their noses and it works good. Thanks

Hello
I had PDANet+ on my phone but then I had to do a complete factory restore.
Any, PDANet+ does not work now.
What is another Tethering app.
My S4 is rooted.
Thanks.
I would also like to know what WiFi tethering apps are working because the app I used on my HTC isn't working and all others I try all day they started with errors and nobody can connect.
