is there a simple way to get root access on my friends at&t htc vivid???
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T using Tapatalk 2
Obtaining root is relatively easy. Unlock the bootloader, install a recovery, and then flash superSU.zip. The easiest way will be with the "all in one tool" (see: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1498003).
You should definitely make a backup before unlocking the bootloader however. It will wipe all of your user data (SMS, contacts, account settings, apps, etc.). Gaining root using superSU does not wipe any data (at least it didn't for me).
thanks mate but is there a way of doing it with out losing all the data???
So far, no. The only choice is to unlock the bootloader and install clockwork recovery.
thanks for the info mate

Possibly... Look in the dev section for the old temp-root thread. It will give you root until you reboot. That should give you time to back up anything you want in titanium backup. I'll try and look for it, hopefully it works with ICS.

I tried it before but a couple of people said it did not work. I am not rooted and used ES Explorer to back it up. If you know of another simple way to get it without root, let me know.

Thanks for compiling these videos. I get my Nexus 7 on Friday and I'll check these out before doing anything....though it looks like Rooting/Flashing is easier on this device than any other device I've been on.
I can now confirm that I have root! Check the development board for details. Just wanted to share with everyone that root works now. Recovery doesn't allow any flashing yet though so use the manual method of rooting through ADB.

I'm looking for anyone who's on Rogers and is rooted as I'm looking for the original sku_id of the device.
Since flashing to a custom rom, signal bars and icons aren't as they were and I need to change my sku_id to make it accurate again.
If you are rooted and on Rogers, all I need you to do is go into Root Explorer in the directory /system/customize/ACC/default.xml and look for the sku_id value. Should be on line 432. Mine is currently set at 42.
Please and thank you!

Why don't you flash your stock nandroid to get the sku then go back to give custom rom.

Because then I would have to wipe and restore for a simple value which I really didn't think it would be this hard to get lol
There's gotta be SOMEONE on Rogers with stock rom in these forums...

So I'd still been using Aospizza but wanted to remove it and safestrap, but I accidentally removed the safestrap apk from my SD card before I removed the backup. The problem is that all of the safestrap links are dead now. Does anyone have a link or can they attach the apk?

A simple Google search would have worked too... -_-
If you cant get it from there then unlock your bootloader and RSD lite to stock, that should wipe it off.

Did you try the link? It's dead. No file found. Every link I search for is dead now.

Awesome! Thanks! I was using safestrap and hadn't unlocked the bootloader yet cause I wanted to play with rooting and custom recoveries before I got too involved. I'd never had an android before. Now I'm gonna go for it. Thanks again for the link!
