I updated my phone to the latest version with the official LG updater. So is there a way I can root this version? If not is there a way I can flash a lower KDZ version?

Did you search?
And did you miss one of the many guides that cover this?
Also, tell us the version number, no one knows what the "latest" version is that you have.
I just used the official updater software. I didn't flash from a KDZ so IDK.
But I got it rooted now.

Haha. The official software updater DOES use KDZ.
Well yea it downloads it and installs it and deletes it but you know what I mean lol
But I wound up using that Megatron app to root. The app itself actually said it failed but apparently not because when I rebooted I had Super User. I even downloaded Terminal Emulator and used it to manually flash clockworkmod recovery back on. For some reason the official installer for it has never supported my phone, but the image I use works perfectly with it.

I'll check into the script for that.

For those who want a stock rooted nexus 7 you can find the full 4.2.2 image here,
https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images
You can find the nakasi image 4.2.2 and download the tar image.
Then I would download and install the google nexus 7 toolkit here,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1809195
Then install the sdk manager and update.
http://developer.android.com/tools/h...k-manager.html
Once all is installed then in the toolkit make sure you install the android usb drivers. I would then reboot your pc.
Then take the factory tar image and move it into a folder called "put factory image here" in the nexus 7 toolkit program files.
Then follow directions to flash it. You can then after it is flashed follow directions to root it.
Now you have a stock rooted version of 4.2.2. That is what I did and it worked for me. I am no expert by any means. I hope this helps.
I used the Google nexus toolkit from skipsoft and I am very grateful to the developer for this software. It made my efforts easy to get a stock rooted updated rom. I hope anyone else who is not a technical expert like me can use the instructions provided and find them useful.

Try those.
So I downloaded the image, moved the tar to "put_google_factory_image_here" in the toolkit folder. Now what, do I still choose 4.2.1 for my device even though Im currenty 4.2.2? My wife accepted the update yesterday while I was at work . Ive used this toolkit before, but thats when all the version numbers lined up and without having to download anything.

Yes just use it as you normally would even with the wrong version for the device. It still works and will install fine. At least it did for me.
Good luck.
LOL this is too long. Just flash SuperSU zip on unrooted stock.
I have my N7 (GSM version) unlocked, rooted and with clockworkmod recovery.
I donwloaded and installed the OTA (beforehand I had supersu and clockworkmode in "Survival" mode ... When I told the OTA to install, my device rebooted and clockwork recovery took the update zip... after some questions "do you want to keep your bootloader", "do you want to keep recovery", "do you want to keep root" (I only kept recovery and root) everything worked fine.
Now I'm on 4.2.2 with unlocked bootloader, clockworkmod recovery and root whitout any problem or anything deleted.
Cheers!

You will need an unlocked bootloader. You kept it unlocked right?
No need to use this toolkit at all really, I did it all manually yesterday. I just flashed the new image and then flashed supersu

That is the problem, I installed CWM Recovery and TWRP, both of them gave me errors, I downloaded the 47-48MB file that Android Police made available.
I used install from zip, and it gives me errors. Help me out please.
I can't seem to find the answer to this.
I've just flashed the Nougat Factory image for Nexus 6 and want root. Can anyone confirm is the latest SuperSU is compatible? I've flashed TWRP and downloaded the latest SuperSU but just a little hesitant to flash it in case of issues.
Thanks a lot.
Yep I rooted just fine. works ok.

I had no problems with the latest version, which I installed last night (downloaded factory image, extracted to PC and fastboot flashed through bootloader, rebooted to recovery and flashed SuperSU 2.78-SR1).

Perfect. Flashed and working great. Thank you! :good:
If you enjoy having an unknown organization having absolute godlike control over your phone, then sure, use stupidsu.
But if you like to have auditable and sane control over your own device, I would very VERY much suggest that you instead use https://github.com/seSuperuser/AOSP-SU-PATCH

new to Nexus 6, just got Nougat OTA, whats the best way to root and have double tap to wake (will it drain battery big time?) and notification led? pls help, tia
btw I use Mac
Isn't the nexus 6 supposed to be 100% stock Android and with that being able to be rooted by any root method? I know I've read many times that if you want to get into root and hacking to pick up a nexus device as they were easily recoverable and weren't root blocked by any means

Not sure what exactly you're asking but the Nexus 6 is easily rooted when using the proper methods. Unlock the bootloader, fastboot flash TWRP recovery and then flash SuperSU or Magisk in TWRP.
Hey All,
I'm looking for some help nito update this device to the latest OTA update. I have installed TWRP 3.0.2.0 that came with the dirtycow method. The device found the latest updated released in the past few days but when going to install it, it brings up the TWRP (which is how it should install). Now I don't mind if I can't grab this latest version due to whatever reason, but how would I go about updating the device? Currently it's running the stock version 6.1 6/17/2016.
Sorry if this has been answered somewhere, but still kinda new with Android devices and the whole rooting process. I'd like to be able to keep TWRP if at all possible and keep this device updated. Also I saw there was a updated TWRP released, how would I go about updating the recovery?
Thanks a lot for the help anyone can give!

Already tried it and it doesn't work. She uses the phone to play Pokemon Go and sadly the modified version you've made gives the error that the device or software is not supported. I believe this is due to the method you are using to remove the ads and custom changes made to the ROM, which I don't personally care if the phone has them or not. I'm wanting to install OTA updates without any heavy modifications made, just the ability to keep TWRP but have an updated phone.

I want to say thank you a lot, this worked wonderfully! Only issue is Google Plus doesn't work (not a huge deal for the wife) but everything else is working great!
One last question, what is the recommended TWRP to use with this phone, I currently have the 3.0.2.0 Vampire version installed.

I have seen it mentioned that Google + does not work on 8.3 in general not just this modified one.
That recovery is the one I use and has advantage over the other one (lopestom's versio) in that in recovery you can use external sdcard and also mtp connection.
Before rooting/removing ads etc, I want to use the phone for a week or so stock so Ill have a baseline to compare it to.
Would it be OK to let the phone update fully while using it? I know with some devices (Amazon kindle) if you update it to a certain point, then there is no going back and the bootloader gets locked.
Lemme know what you think.

If you allow it to update, you will not be able to unlock bootloader, so if you want to root do not update.
The latest update has been posted in this forum, so you are not missing any of the update by rooting either.

Is the root junky method still good?
https://youtu.be/KMobKWfZbJg
Or should I follow a different guide? I know some of his files on his website are outdated.
I also am having a problem when trying to use the flashtool. When I plug my phone in powered off, at first it says the battery is low no matter what, then disconnects, then says 95% or whatever it is. This is preventing me from using flashtool when in download mode.
Any idea why this is happening? My r1 hd is on 6.0 btw

All the R1-HD line is on Android 6.0
The Blu release version is what changes.
I believe this was the order
6.1
6.4
6.5
6.6
7.4.2
8.3
8.4
The flashtool stopped working at v6.6
The new method was the use dirty cow. There is a tool thread for directions.
This new method stopped working at v8.3

So the phone is brand new from Amazon, haven't touched it or even connected it to the internet. Not home right now, but I remember seeing software version 6.0 not Android 6.0.
Anyways, I guess I should look into the dirty cow method. Do you have the link?

Is there a ROM i should flash afterwards?
I just installed twrp using the dirty cow method (steps 1-4), and then also did step 5-1 (install supersu).
At this point, in the past Ive always just flashed a brand new rom and gapps. Is there a "stock" rom that I should flash with twrp - which is just the stock rom with no ads? And which build should I? Im on 6.6 right now.
Ive read that lineage has some problems with the camera - no big deal ill roll will the stock non-ad rom for now.
Thanks again!

So the non-prime ROMs latest is v21 it comes with none of the prime ads.
Or v8.4 that came with the ads but they were removed. .some have said n-ify not working on 8.4 but does on 21. I do not know first hand.

You will have to do SuperSU again after the rom

Last question(s):
So I installed V21, supersu, removed ALL amazon with dirtycow.
1. Is my phone now disabled from receiving OTA updates? Or do I have to do something else to make sure auto updates are OFF.
2. Is there a way to remove this stupid blu app (blu help) that keep requiring me to register my device? Every time I power on I have to force stop the app or I have a constant notification to do it.
Thanks again!

The debloat done with the tool supposed to have disabled the ota checker program.
And as a second method of not getting ota, having twrp and root will also make the ota fail even if it was to download.
The Blu app is called warrenteer. What I do is belete the whole folder.
/system/priv-app/warrenteer
You can take baby steps and just rename the apk inside that folder to add "-" or "_" to end of it's name
This can be done with a root explorer app or with recovery file manager. Either way.
I sideloaded the one ui 4 betas via adb then did the same to install the official release. What do I do to be able to go back to my phone being able to download the updates without wiping it?
