[Q] How much memory are we actually given? - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I had bought a white 16gb galaxy note and it finally arrived today.
well i couldn't help but notice that out of the 16 gigs, only 11 of it is accessible.
obviously when you buy a 4gb usb, it really only has like 3.8 gb or something, but this is missing a hefty 5 gb.

is this normal?
what size phones have you guys got and how much of it is actually usable?
thanks.

The os of your pc takes up a huge chunk
Similarly 5 GB is reserved for OS or other personal ****..lol
My point is...ITS NORMAL

1 gb is for android itself, 3 gb is for the application to be stored on phone and remaining 12 gb(11.07 gb) is for your personal stuff

the thing is i realised my phone was shipped from hong kong so the first thing that i think of is, oh crap! must be a fake or a dud or has crap stuff in it.
glad to hear its normal.
but how much memory varies between the devices?
does everyone have 5 gigs missing or do some have like 3 or 4?
also, does it depend on what rom you're running too?
like if you're running a really light rom, naturally there should be more free space right?

awesome, thanks for the info.

I'm not really sure how much was available when I got my Note but this doesn't seem odd to me.
Also this model has 3 storage areas. There's what's labeled as the "phone", then the "SD" (so that's the 16 gigs of primary storage) which are presumably a micro SD card inside the phone. And then there's the secondary SD which is what you can insert next to the battery (up to 32 GB from what I gathered).
However, getting apps to use one or the other is fairly tricky. Sometimes you have to move stuff by hand.
Note that finding cheap 32gig cards is easy online (for 48gigs - more or less- of storage).

Future of Diamond

Do you think it`s possible the next Diamond come with card slot ? Or bigger Ram ? Or nothing ?
the "next" diamond is no diamond
its a completely different toy.
For me now is Diamond or not Diamond - That`s the question.
The Touch pro is to much expensive for me. And I Think I don`t need the tastatur.

if u dont need the keyboard....take diamond....
just look at the size of the pro

I personally dont need keyboard at all..
p.s. look at the size of pro!! OMG!
well...Pro has some other good features like
- TV-out (cable not included)
- microSD (TransFlash)
- Standard battery, Li-Ion 1340 mAh
- 288 MB RAM, 512 MB ROM
- flash
i think i can miss these other things...
Photos can trick you, Pro is not big, it is just fatter (and for various GOOD reasons) than Diamond which is one of the thinnest PDA ever (again for a reason: call me, limitations).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=420739
(my post is on last page btw)
i know it's just thicker...about 8mm
Only thing i really miss is TV-Out....
but i think guy's will make one rom that will support that too.
i hope so
WhiteCell you don't "miss" things you never had.
Bigger RAM, flash, microSD, real battery (to name some), are not things "ah I don't miss", they are just what they should be (and Diamond lacks).
One single reason that someone should choose a Diamond is that is thinner and size is #1 priority.
Please name me a single additional reason (like there is).
"but i think guy's will make one rom that will support that too."
i doubt it's a software thing

On expansys:
Diamond 474€
Touch Pro 654€, microSD card & tv-out cable not included
But even at the same price I'd pick the diamond over the pro
...because?
As for the price difference, expect it to change (as Diamond's price changed). When you talk about a hi-end PDA, you expect a hi-end price, and 654 is not even hi-end price, it is about the same price I got my LOOX720 years ago and about the same price I remember all serious WM cost over the years.
I agree with you , you just asked another reason and the price difference is one at the moment.
Personnally, I chose the size over the keyboard/memory/card, but of course it depends of the user's needs
ok fair enough - so you agree with my first post too... if size is your #1, then Diamond (but only for that)

Damn, this zone is on the left . Didn't play since a long time, my bad! .
I think I know when the bug appears, it's when you use the undo command to go back through almost the whole game. Some cards that has moved automaticly up to the aces doesn't go back to where they origin from, they just dissapear.... Poff!!! just like that! It's magic!
Where did you get the freecell game from anyway? Was it already on your device? Did you download it and install it? Was it a full free version or a pay product? Did you pay for the full version or did you obtain a hacked version? Sometimes hacked versions are not complete - Kind of security to prevent people from using hacked versions. If it is a demo - The missing cards could be the limitation. Anyways. The game is useless unless you get all the cards
I think it's Microsofts free original... It's included in half of every cooked rom and in all original?! I don't know more than that...
That's funny, I didn't get freecell with my HTC Touch Elf from Rogers in Canada with WM 6

[Q] Has anyone opened the Nook Color?

This is a picture from the original Nook's insides:

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
As can be seen, in this particular instance, there were two micro-SD cards inside, and therefore one could swap it with a larger one and effectively increase the internal memory of the device.
A similar scenario has occured in several Windows Phone devices.
Any ideas if the Nook's internal 8GB is merely a micro-SD card waiting to be replaced?
Nope, it's a SANDISK 8 GB SSD. The Nook Color likely required much faster Flash memory than an SD card is capable of.
See here:
http://www.zdnet.com/photos/nookcolor-teardown/487636?seq=56&tag=photo-frame;get-photo-roto
So, I suppose it is impractical to replace it, right? The size of this SSD does not seem 'stock'.

You mean the physical size (in millimieters) or the logical size (in bytes)?
And out of curiosity: given that you can drop a 32GB microSD card into the NC without opening anything up, why are you so concerned with increasing the size of the onboard SSD?
I've downloaded a ton of apps from the Android market onto my NC and they've barely made a dent in the onboard memory. Meanwhile, I keep 14 GB of movies on my $25.00 16GB SD card and they play great, without so much as a hiccup.
Just that you could theoretically bump it up to 64GB is all. I am happy with 48GB obviously -- but the future of Android tablets will probably hold many exclusive games with quite large installs. I believe it won't be more than a year or two before we see 1-2GB games.

Thanks for this link! It actually answered my next question about being able to replace the battery yourself if needed. I've opened up my share of laptops and other devices, and it looks pretty simple (more so than most other devices).

HTC Legally required to update..

Hey guys
I have been doing research ever since HTC announced they were cancelling lollipop and remembered when I got the phone, opened the box first thing I saw was a card stating "Two years of updates". Does anyone else remember this card/still have it as I am planning to take a a case to HTC on false advertising.
I bought the phone in september 2014.. i don't remember this card but i'm sure that they just don't care about update for a non flagship phone ..
Will have a look but don't remember seeing one
Sent from my HTC One mini 2 using xda premium
See image below....confirmed that the htc one range gets two years updates as part of advantage

Well then post this images on twitter .. and tell htc that they don't follow their own speak ...
Isn't that for USA only ? Though updates apply anywhere but was the Mini 2 sold in USA ?

The HTC One Remix is the Verizon variant of the One mini 2. So yeah, it must be updated. And HTC Advantage isn't USA only, HTC's Indian site also showcases it.

I think that is important difference.
You can find more information here https://source.android.com/compatibility/5.0/android-5.0-cdd.pdf
Looking at the linked PDF 1GB should be enough. Screen is normal and cpu is 32 bit. CM12 runs fine apart from camera and audio glitches.
Thread closed, no obvious point continuing conjecture.
Whatever HTC appeared to promise, or not, updates for however long may not necessarily imply updates to Lollipop. Updates ad infinitum could mean KitKat updates and mini-updates etc.

Realy realy crazy ????
Crazy but in a good way
Nice but I don't see any use for 200gb card. My 32gb card has nearly 5-6 gb free. I don't think anyone can use anything above 64gb card.
And our Android One 1St Gen Costs around $100
I would prefer getting another phone with this price.
But still, thanks for experimenting.
Now adopt it into your phone's internal storage. For the lulz

Till the time comes when we need 100-200gb for mobile storage, our sprout will not last, maybe more powerful devices with 12gb ram and 250gb internal
But currently no need for a memory card which costs more than the mobile, atleast for me
