Hi Guys...
I need some help to root my buddies XXLA4 galaxy note...
it is currently on gingerbread.
I need the zimage file to root with the easy rooting toolkit.
but i've read some sonflicting ideas to downgrade first etc etc
Any ideas?
thanks a mill guys!
LA4 is non rootable directly
-You need to downgrade first to get it rooted
OR
-Install Pre rooted ROM
OR
Update to ICS and root it
Thanks Dr Ketan...Was actually looking at your thread here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997
Basically what he wants is Just Stock ICS.
ICS is not availabe in south africa yet. so guess option 3 is out of the question.
he does not want custom rom so option 2 is out as well.
If you can point me to the correct thread to downgrade i would be most gratefull.
If it was my own phone i would have no worries to try stuff but here i only have 1 chance LOL
thanks again!!!
You can flash any Stock ICS ROM, not necessarily it shud from country you have purchased note/using.
If you check his CSC (*#1234#) it may be something like JV*** if it was from south africa
As JV code is for contries includes South africa.
So find ICS ROM having CSC JV*** will be closer to his/her home country.
here is two version having this code Turkey and morocco. have ICS released.
N7000XXLPY-------4.0.3-----------2012 May-----------N7000OJVLP6-----------Turkey
N7000XXLPY-------4.0.3-----------2012 May------------N7000OJVLP6----------Morocco
This will be closer.
But practically there is no rule, you can have Any N7000 ROM.
Thanks again mate!
So i should first downgrade to a lower ROM...
then Root....
then go up to ICS?
No you can directly Flash ICS, ICS is rootable.
But as i said earlier go clean, wipe cach and data then flash ICS.
Thanks!
So i'm going to use this file N7000XXLPY_N7000OXALPY_N7000XXLPT_HOME.tar
to flash using your guide ICS installation and root.
that is the one I used on my galaxy note.
thanks man!

Hi Friends,
I see that the ICS Update will arrive sometime between may/june. i have a rooted Galaxy note using this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1329360
i just wonder when the time comes do i have to unroot to update or can i just update.. im new at this android world so i would appreciate any help i can get, thanks
Dont worry, sure you will get update to ICS
But how you have to update this can mentioned only after release of ICS, And yes it take few hrs to know just after release of ICS, you need is to just stay tuned here.
Just remember i said above in term of keeping your root intact. If you dont want to keep root, just you can flash Stock ROM of your country anytime, N just update ICS over Kies whenever it release over Kies.
Hi,
I have similar question. Previously I had a KK5 rom before I gave my note to Samsung in warranty for screen replacement. They flashed XLA4 rom and CSC is also changed now to JPLA1. Now KIES says it cannot upgrade my ROM. My question is: is it still possible to receive OTA updates (including ICS when it is available). Please note that my phone is not rooted. Thanks in advance.
To get update with Kies/OTA
your device should have installed ROM from your region, as well CSC should also be same as your region
Check CSC with *#272*IMEI#
Remember, changing CSC will wipe off data.
Sorry to bother you again. using *#272*IMEI# shows JED (which is correct for Saudi Arabia). There are other options to choose from e.g. KSA (which I think is also for Saudi Arabia but I don't know). Do you think changing will solve the problem? And is there any other danger (other than wiping the data) with changing the CSC? Thanks again.
Nothing more thn data wipe happen after changing csc.
Your installed rom shud b same for your region as csc.
If your rom is older for region, kies will show msg, you have update. If your rom is latest for this region, kies will msg you have latest firmware.
In other condition kies won't recognise your rom n won't allow to update.

Sure, when updating to stock you will lose the root, so you dont need to worry about that...You can look around and there are ways to flashing to next version if you want to mantain the root, tools like mobile odin can help you with that..... but i do recommend you to take a look arround the forum, you like me probably end up using custom roms

Hi guys,
So this is my first android phone. I bought it in Shanghai, so it comes with bunch of chinese crapware preinstalled which is really annoying.
After doing some research, it appears that the only way for me to get rid of that is to root the phone (which I've never done before).
I have two goals in mind:
1) being able to delete all the crapware that came preinstalled with the phone
2) being able to install "market enabler" so that I can download "real" apps
I have downloaded Dr. Ketan's guide on how to root the SGN.
My phone's info:
Build Number: GINGERBREAD.ZSLA2
Baseband version: N7000XXLA4
So, from the guide it appears that I dont have a direct rootable ROM, and I need to flash (is that what its called?) it with Odin.
Now, I have downloaded the "SGN_XX_OXA_KJ1_FACTORYFS.zip" file. Correct me if I am wrong, but I am guessing that this file is the "rooted factory ROM"...
However, later I came across this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997 with bunch of [stock ROMs].
My goal is to have "normal/factory/oem/stock/whatever you call it" ROM, with SuperUser access aka root.
So, the question is - should I stick with the guide and use "SGN_XX_OXA_KJ1_FACTORYFS.zip" ROM or should I flash it with one of the ROMs from the [stock roms] thread?
Cheers!

You can do either
KJ1_factoryfs if pre rooted ROM, you won't need to root it after downgrading
While if you downgrade any rootable ROM from stock ROM thread you have mentioned, you have to root it.

BTW,
do I need to install CWM? I am not planning on installing other ROMs or anything like that... just want to wait for the official release of ICS, that's all.
Not compulsory.
You can also purchase mobile odin pro, if you want to update rom to latest version.
Or u can use as it is. But kj1 or any older rom are not tuned as newer one, may experience battery drainage, leg etc, but if u r satisfied, thn you can keep it till ics.

ok, so i installed the german ics rom on my uk note using this guide.
i want to move back to my "correct" rom, but still keep root if possible. i downloaded the new ics uk rom from here
this may be a stupid question, but can i follow the exact same guide, just substituting the lpy cf root kernel for the lq2 kernel in post 7 from this thread?
my phone was originally the cpw software (even though i didn't actually buy it from carphonewarehouse) and it seems that that rooted kernel is for the unbranded uk version, but i'm guessing that won't be a big deal?
thanks in advance.
Anyone?

If you substitute the LPY kernel with the LQ2 kernel you will get exactly this, a new kernel. The rom will still be the same. In theory swapping the kernel should work but there is always a slight risk it doesn't.
Concerning the cpw branding: What matters is the model, not the branding. So if you have got a N7000 it is fine to flash any rom/ kernel intended for the N7000.

Oops, something went terribly wrong
Yeah but I'm intending to actually flash the uk ROM as well. What i really mean to ask is, can i flash the uk (cpw) ROM with the uk (unbranded) kernel, with no more risk involved than if i was flashing the unbranded rom and unbranded kernel? I understand that there's always a small risk, but just wanted clarification that flashing a slightly different kernel than the rom's normal one isn't going to completely kill my phone unless I'm very unlucky

Hi guys, i've just bought a Samsung Galaxy S Advance I9070 and I'm a little confused. My previous phone was a Galaxy Ace S5830i, I had that phone rooted (but it was too easy, just flash a .zip file) and with a custom rom.
So I have some questions:
1) For now I just want to root my new phone but the methods that I found here are not too clear to me. I first saw this method, but my firmware is not there. My phone came with I9070UBLI1 (2.3.6 GB). So i can't root my phone? my kernel isn't even in sammobile.com/firmwares
2) I want to make a backup just in case before rooting, so, what recovery should I use with this phone? cwm? this? or which one?
3) What is "binary counter"? In galaxy ace that wasn't present.
4) I saw that in samsungfirmwares site there are some 4.1.2 kernels, but they are for Rusia. I'm from Chile. So can I flash the russian kernel? will I loose my signal, 3G or something? Do you recommend upgrade to JB? with stock russian or a custom rom?
5) Do you recommend a custom kernel? which one? This looks nice
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I hope you can help me with those questions (numering your answers just like i did with my questions), I just want to enjoy a lot my new phone. :good:

Since you say that you are used to xda, i don't see any reasonable explanation for the creation of this thread!
Read the forums. All answers are in the stickies..

I read the forums, but I'm still confused, for example, for rooting, in the thread that I linked in 1) there isn't the firmware that came with my phone, so I went to here, there isn't neither, then I read this post, but to do that I need dowload my phone's firmware, but the one that came with my phone there isn't in samsungfirmares web page, so I suppose I can flash anyone for Chile (my country), there are 2, but idk if they will work, so, if I'm going to take that risk I need to make a backup first, but idk what recovery I should use.
I have a mental bootloop

I bought my phone in January.
Then became member of xda in january.
Flashed russian jb all releases as they released in February.
Rooted my phone in same month.
Started using kernels in same month.
Started tweaking in same month.
And now i am really happy with my phone's performance.
As i was new to android and xda i have done all this because i was not worried about my warranty.
In short, go ahead don't think so much.

goodday xda!
I bought my phone online and turns out my csc is aut which is from switzerland. Now updates for this csc is very delayed. Its been almost a month since its jb release and still no word. I have no problems with waiting for their official release. But since im from the philippines, i was wondering if i can change my csc to here so that i can get updates from my country (jb has been released here already).
Ive tried changing my csc with the imei method in the dialer but there arent any csc listed there only AUTwhich is the default. Will factory resetting my phone enable me to change csc? I am currently running 4.0.4
Im all for rooting it but since my warranty expires in a month or so, i wish to find some way to update without the need to root yet.
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for the information, it gets a bit overwhelming to study up on all these. With the method you suggested, does that mean I should root my phone? Sorry for the questions, really dont know where to start since all the information keeps piling up.
Thanks
