Hello,
I have a N7000 16 GB, bought there is 3 weeks.
it came with GB. I did the samsung upgrade to go in ICS : XXLPY.
I tried a simple tutorial to root it, and soft brick my device.
today, it is repaired and my device is in GB again XXLC1 version. baseband : N7000XXLB2
I think I dind't lost anything in room available as it says
Total memory : 11.07 GB. free memory 10.95 GB.
my question is :
today, with my device, and version, there is still a risk if I root it ? is it in my device ?
it is not really clear for me if it comes from the ICS provided by Samsung, or if it is in something like a BaseBand Radio rom or something like that (something which is not change by a new ROM)
I was hoping be able to Root it in GingerBread, then install a custom rom ICS, a stable and safe one.
many thank you for something clear for me.

So right now the device is running the stock GB software right?
what i'd suggest:
Flash the Abyss kernel [through odin], this will root the device and itll also install CWM recovery.
After youve done that, get into CWM recovery, wipe the device and install the rom of your likings.
stay on GB.

Hello,
yes, right now, the device is working fine, on GB 2.3.6
if I go on ICS, custom, rooted, starting from GB, is there s risk ?
or the risk and mistake was to go in ICS officially (samsung upgrade) aand try to root it ?
ICS is nice. and there is some nice App like Chrome which does not work in GB...
thanks

Well the safest way used to be PC Odin....but see here.....some instance of PC odin getting stuck and then giving you super brick http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1653582
You can even use Mobile Odin. No one reported bricking through that...but all risks on your own !!
I used Mobile Odin to flash LC2 and the CF kernel together. No problems and I'm glad to be back to a stable rom!

1-Download a kernel fx franco is what you need and copy it to your sd
2-Go to recovery
3-Flash a zip
4-Choose franco kernel
5-In advance restart revovery/if you cant just turn off the phone and reboot to revovery
6-Wipe every thing
7- Flash a gb rom you have downloaded
Can I use mobile odin lite
hi all got the same issue app crashing ram almost full use (thk go power) phone very slow so i want to go back to gb but I just have mobile odin lite version and a pre rooted rom stock of gb.
can i use this to go back safely to gb if yes how if no how can i do
best regards,
Worked with Odin Lite
Just flash back to GB and everything wipe clean (unfortunately) as a new phone
I feel happy and also unhappy
Easiest way of going back is to flash darkys Odin resurrection 3.4. Then via cwm flash whatever u wanna

I'd say do a soft reset first to see is some rogue program is consuming the battery too fast. If not do a factory reset (in the settings of ICS) and use your device without any program to see if it's the OS that's causing the battery drain.
If I were you i'd go back to GB only when absolutely necessary!! There are a lot of advises (already 5 different workarounds in this thread!!!) on this site who can brick your device because you have to know exactly what is currently on your device before choosing the method of returning to GB otherwise it will become a brick. Unfortunately I know what I'm talking about, just bricked my device two days ago (btw I'm not blaming anyone!!). New mainboard is appr. 300 euro, all included.

Sorry for you
I have successfuly downgrade to GB through Odin Mobile Lite.
I have flash stock rom through PC Odin and it seems that it work (for me)
Now looking how to get back my root
Got my root now waiting again for ics

Hi all.
Finally got a Note and love it, but while I wait for official ICS here in the UK, I'd like to keep stock 2.3.6 GB but safely root it.
There's so much info here, it makes me a bit nervous in-case I pick the wrong method.
I have this:

and would like to know what method I should use to root.
Thanks

Use Dr. Ketan's method!
Go here and follow the instruction for your Rom.
Edit: Just saw your picture, you have LA4 not LA6 on your device, that means that you can flash a Direct Rootable Rom!
Thanks for the reply but I'm a bit confused, my Note shows Build: GINGERBREAD XXLA6 as does the Kernel, so are you saying that it's the Baseband version : N7000XXLA4 that I should be paying attention to?
Also according to Kies it's PDA:LA6 / PHONE LA4 / CSC LA1 (XEU)
yes la4 is the rom version you are using, you will need to downgrade to be able to root
which rom do you suggest I downgrade to and still allow update via Kies?
Will the downgrade via Odin up my flash counter and give me the triangle?

go look at the root thread, there is a link for kj1, which is non wipe rom so all your settings will stay in tact
no it wont give you the triangle because it is a stock rom

I bought the Galaxy Note N7000 yesterday and I have exactly the same android-, baseband-, kernel version and build number. The only difference is I'm from the Netherlands and using Vodafone.
Now I've been looking for a way to root it, but I also wondered which XXLA# I should use for it.. I saw the reply of the downgrade (ofcourse) but I am wondering: those r for Poland and Germany... Or doesn't that matter and I can root it anyway w/o bricking the phone?
Post november roms are difficult to root, best optuon is to go to pre december 2011 rom
Or go to ICS and use cwm. Zip and superuser. Zip method

Well yeah, I get that point, but the thing is: I'm kinda noob with this. To be honest: my roommates rooted my galaxy s for me, but they did it so fast that I didn't get half of what they did..
My eventual goal is to learn how to root a smartphone and upgrade mine to android ics. My current android version is an unrooted stock 2.3.6 and I wanna go for a rooted ICS, but I already start to wonder now if I can upgrade my phone to rooted ICS immediately from the 2.3.6... Could u guide me a little in this?
By the way: sorry if I ask some pretty obvious questions that might have already been answered elsewhere on the forum, but I have been looking all over the forum and just don't know which info I should use from which posts anymore..
If you want ics then it is very easy.
First flash ics and then root it., ics is directly rootable.
I recommend first hard reset on gb rom for clean installation.
All informatikn regarding ics update n root, u can find on first link on my signature.

Well, I thought the safest way to get me ICS on the phone was through updating with Samsung Kies. After this I was planning to put CWM in the folder sdcard/external_sd and Busybox on the internal sd, but...
I got it updated now, but I lost the folder external_sd.. I can't create a new folder with this name either.. I don't actually have an external SD card, but if I remember it well, I didn't need it either. I have seen the folder external_sd for sure in there..
Edit: Bought an external sd card and did the root like u said, but without flashing back to GB. It worked! Thanks alot for the clear walkthrough! Hail dr. Ketan!
Hi Guys,
sorry for this noobie question but I'm quite new to android.
I've passed hours reading the forum about roms, kernels etc...but there are so much information for my little brain that now I don't know what to do...
So I'm on a GB 2.3.6 XXLC1 stock rom, with Franco's kernel 3.x version and I'd like to install Crisleko's ICS V7 ROM on my device but i'm not able to know how really to install it on the phone...the phone is full rooted. I wouldn't like to brick my note, so here's the reason of my question :
In my case, which is the most efficient way to install this rom ?
Sorry if this question has already been posted, but within all answer, I don't know what to do....
Thanks a lot for yout support.
You can flash the rom also directly from CWM. The reboot into recovery and select : _install zip from sd card _chose zip from sd card _select the criskeloRom zip _click yes ...... Flash it from Cwm i raccomend the Cwm app.from chainfire : _copy the rom to internal sd _start Cwm manager _ chose flash update _select criskelo Rom _click on yes...
I'm also afraid to hardbrick my device, and dude, i bought it 5 days ago lol
I had a Galaxy Nexus and flashed, installed new kernels, rooted, did everything.
I asked few ppl here and they said we should wait till the official ICS comes, it will take 1 or 2 weeks, better than hardbrick my note <3
Not quite because most bricks actually happen because of the stock ICS ROM.
Flash whatever you want, just remember to go from GB and not stock ICS, and remember - never do a factory reset while on stock ICS kernel.
If you need to do a factory reset, just flash a GB kernel, or flash GB stock with Odin, then wipe and flash ICS back.
Also, CM9 highly recommended
Ok guys, thanks a lot for answers. I've tryed to flash this rom and everything worked fine except the fact I'm a noobie and restore with TB Apps and user datas ^^. Now i'll know that user data don't have to be restored !
So I'm came back to my GB rom...
Maybe one more question :
I'll installed a new rom, I think i've understood what to do and what not to do with wipe from ICS roms but after wipe data / factory resest ans dalvik cache, is there a way to have a connection wizard software so a to set everything up because I had no data connection anymore ?
Thank a lot for your support
Hello Pascal-T,
I think I'm in the exact same position as you (except that I'm not rooted yet), but i'm also on GB LC1 and I want to go to Crisleko's ICS V7 ROM !
As I understood, you have directly install Crisleko's ICS V7 ROM on your rooted GB LC1 ? So it's not needed to install an other lower ICS ROM before going to the LQ3 of Criskelo ?
If yes this is great, then I just have to root my GB LC1, do a backup up with TB, and then I can follow Crisleko's ICS V7 ROM topic ? (At the begining I though I should first flash a stock ICM ROM but It seems to be THE THING TO AVOID).
If someone can just confirm these informations, that would be perfect
Thank you !
Well this seems like a perfect place for me to post Ive asked around, And searched a lot, But still cant figure this out. I dont wanna sound like a noob ( I am to the Note )
Ive been flashing and modding for years, Samsungs, HTC's, Sony Ericssons so I know what to do.
The thing is, All the threads I read about the bricking, and how to avoid it, Just keep forever linking me to different threads, and i end up back at the start. I dont have the Note yet (should be arriving any time) Im thinking of Only rooting for now as im not confident enough to flash without errors. But when i do, what i need to do is, Use ODIN to revert to GB (Unless it comes with GB) then:
1, Flash CF-ROOT kernel
2, Flash abyss safe kernel in cwm
3, reboot back into cwm
4, Do a full wipe
5, Install a ROM
Is that right ? I like the look of PA but would like to try a modded stock ROM to start with, So any recommendations ?
TIA
A-D
Ok, I hate to be a noob, but I feel that I have to in this case.
I just got a new unlocked G-Note and it has has gingerbread. However I want to install ICS, Been trying to research through the threads myself, but its overwhelming for someone who hasn't been here to follow the threads from the beginning
I would appreciate some advice or steps to safely go from bone stock G-note to Official Samsung ICS

Hey man! Seems like you want to upgrade from GB to ICS on the Galaxy Note. GB is far more stable and bug free on the Galaxy Note. This is one device where upgrading to ICS is more of a downgrade. So to be honest i would recommend that you stay on GB until samsung get out a stable ICS ROM for the Note.
Firstly what i would recommend you to do is download chinfires app called Gotbrick.(Google it) Install the app on your Note on GB and see the verdict. The verdict will tell u if your Note has the eMMC brickbug. If the verdict tells "Danger" then upgrading to ICS is equal to suicide because all stock ICS kernels are known to have the eMMC_Erase functionality which will cause this bug to superbrick your phone.
However if you still want to take the rist then the steps to upgrade are: you can try the connecting your phone to your PC and run kies. It will automaticly check for updates and install them. Another method is using the phone itself. Goto Settings>About Phone>Software Update and check for updates. It should update to ICS automatically.
If none of the above work then use the ODIN method:
For the ODIN method the steps are:
1- Register and Download the Stock ICS for your region from here:http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=3&t=1&o=1&m=GT-N7000&r=-1#modelsa
2-After download you should get a zip file. Unzip the content. You will get a .tar.md5 file.
3- Next get ODIN v1.83 (download it if u dont have it)
4- Make sure you have Samsung Drivers Installed on your PC and put your phone in download mode(Volume Down + Home + Power) and connect it to your PC using USB Cable
4- Then run ODIN as admin and then click the PDA button and choose the .md5 file you extracted. Make sure only Auto Reboot and F.Reset Time are checked in ODIN. Then click the start button and Let it flash the new Firmware.
After flash complete you should have Stock ICS 4.0.3 on your Note. What i would recommend is to flash a safe ICS kernel like Speedmod N7000 k3 on it to prevent it from getting bricked.
If this helped please click the Thanks button! Cheers!
Sorry to be a noob,
but i couldn't get a download link for the *chinfire's app Gotbrick* to check whether my SGN is not from *DANGER* to Stock ics update. =(
Looks like it's "Chainfire"

OK, here's my experience with upgrading to ICS. I've had my note for about 2 months and have been following the forum trying to learn. It's very confusing to me and I was afraid to do anything so I did nothing. I live in Melbourne, FL and use Straight Talk. My note was purchased from Newegg and had a Brazil build number. Several days ago someone posted that Brazil was now on the "update to ICS" list, so I thought I'd check it out with kies. I use linux so I had to boot into my Windows 7 Ultimate OS(ugh). I opened kies and it said it could be updated to newer version, so I updated kies. Then I pluged in my note and low and behold it said update version available! I sweated a little and decided to go for it. It updated smooth as silk with no problems and now I have ICS! I have all the apps with all the data I had before update.
The new ICS is much quicker and smoother than GB, the difference is immediately noticable.
All the phone info changed to new numbers(android, baseband, kernel version and build number) and I didn't think to write it down so I can't post what it was. Anyway hope this info helps someone.
I agree that the update makes the UI quicker but however it makes the brick bug effective in the ICS kernel. With GB although the UI is slower, there is no risk of brick bug.
So its ur choice to choose between a relatively slower UI with no brick bug Or a faster UI but risking your phone. I recommend installing a custom GB rom which is stable and fast.

Hey, so I got really excited when ics came out and instanly went out to flash the repack (stupid, I know) and I checked and I do have the brickbug. So I know that I shouldn't flash using clockwork or do a factory reset and I wanna take your advice and flash a safe kernel like Abyss.
So I just wanna know if I should just flash it through clockwork and then I'll be ok right? My phone's performance and everything wouldn't be affected right? Also would prefer rather not downgrading to GB.
Thanks!
So yea, I do have the bug, but before I found out, I flashed ICS. Panic when I found out I could brick my phone, then flashed back
Question: Even though I have the bug, if I flash Stock Indian ICS, then Speedmod, will I be safe?

Ok firstly i would like to say that if you do have the bug and are already on ICS then instead of downgrading to Gingerbread, try to flash a safe kernel. But stay away from Clockworkmod. Do not flash using CWM. Instead use ODIN to flash any kernel from the following:
Speedmod kernel
Franco Kernel
CM9 Knightlies
The best of these kernel is Speedmod kernel which has the best performance and best battery life. I have already made a tutorial on how to do this, just follow the steps on the tutorial found here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o5K5Wm_201Y

Before you flash anything tell me what are you running currently? are you running a stock ICS or a Custom ROM? If you are running stock ICS then you can easily flash Speedmod kernel with ODIN and you will be safe. You can see my tutorial here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o5K5Wm_201Y

Currently on a leaked LPY ICS and I have the dangerous kernel. I'm suffering from poor battery life at the moment.
What do you suggest I do? Should I go back to GB or give a new kernel a try?
If I flash a new kernel over LPY will it be safe to perform a factory reset?
Hey Guys,
i am coming from galaxy spica (after 2,5 year of rooting) now i have bought galaxy note in Austria with simlock.
So i have make a root, use apk Galaxy_S Unlock and back unroot (i have still 1,5 year garanty, but i am not sure after this unlocking
I had kernel unrootable LA4,
so 1. I made via odin SGN_XX_OXA_KJ1_FACTORYFS
2. CFROOt_for_kernel_KJ1.rar
3. CF-Root-SGN_XX_OXA_LA4-v5.0-CWM5.zip
5. unroot via DooMLoRD_v1_UNROOTING
but what i dont understand (on galaxy spica was jut froy 2.2 and many difrent kernel or mod)
how or which version of kernel i can put now?
I would like to update on 4.0.4 (first 2.3.6) via kies or OTA doesnt work. I would like to keep without root.
Now i am downloading 2.3.6. - N7000XXKKA_N7000OXXKK5_ATO.zip but after reading many thereads i am not sure if i can put any kernel on KJ1?
Thank you for a little explanation.
I would like to know if on kernel KL1 (2.3.5) is possible to put any kernel ??? (4.0.4) ?
Go back to stock GB ROM using PC odin.Instructions are in dr.ketan's thread.
Update via Kies or flash stock ICS 4.0.4 using PC Odin again.
What a mess..
Go back to stock gb.. Then flash any known ics safe kernel (notecore/speedmod) via odin(you already gotta have the custom rom in your sd so once the phone restart go straight to cwm and wipe/data/cache/dalvik) recovery keys are volume up+power+home
Then flash any desired(custom) rom after that run triangle away to get rid of the yellow triangle and that's it(encourage you to try cleanote rom its super fast and as close to stock as posible with Notecore kernel) the phone flies and battery its great
Stock its laggy and loaded with crap and the stock kernels are unsafe to wipe/factory reset due to the Emmc brick bug..
Avoid stock kernels as much as you would avoid walking through shyt

If will JB be not better than mayby a root. But I need my phone for use not for playing. Like my old Spica. Always was something wrong. So many many kernels or mod.
Just of what am i disappointed its battery live. My tread here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1830995
I tried all off, like sync. but still one day of very light use it not good.
Maybe will i have to make a root and wipe all... :-/
