[Q] Black screen when trying to boot safe system - Motorola Droid 4

Hello, guys. I have ICS leak on my device, installed safestrap successfully, but after first time boot (boot recovery or system), when I can choose what system I wanna boot, the phone shows only black screen with led backlight. Tried to wait about 15 minutes, but no luck. Busybox was updated, safestrap works, but safe system doesn't want to boot. Any advice? I tried to wipe all and install safestrap in clean system, still no go.

Can you boot into unsafe system, recovery? If you can get into recovery, I'd try a factory reset.
If all else fails, I'd reflash 219 --> ICS 213 and start over.

Did you install a ROM on your safe system?

yes

I was having the exact same issue. You can't enable safe system and boot in to a non-safe system ROM. If you enable safe system, you have to install a custom rom. If you haven't yet wiped or made any changes in CWM/Recovery, then you can just disable safe system and you should boot in to stock, which is what I did. Although I did later on install the AOKP ICS leak. I'm currently waiting for there to be a release of the .213 Moto ICS rom.

[Resolved] Need help Unbricking and Installing CM7.1

This seems to be the only place I can post.
Basically the title.
Here is some info to avoid some easy questions:
Rooted D3 (obviously)
5.6.890 (I think those were the numbers, I am sure it wasn't 5.7 something)
Using the Droid 3 bootstrapper. NOT safestrap, though in Hashcode's post, he said he updated it to be compatible with boostrap.
Flashed Steel Droid v3 about 2 weeks ago, week later flashed to the Bionic Blue theme.
Ran the "Safe bloat removal script (50+ apps) [UPDATED 9/1/2011]" script.
Ran the script to get my bloat back.
No problems until....
Tried to flash to CM7.1 Alpha using Droid 3 Bootstrapper
Bootloop.
tl;dr: How do I correctly install CM7.1?
you may just need to boot into andriod recovery and clear cache. i dont use bootstrap anymore, but its essentially the same. boot into recovery, format /system (under mounts and storage) then install CM7, factory reset (wipe data/cache) then boot her up. Safestrap is the way to go though
So I tried again, wiping my cache and /system, this time I ended up with a soft brick (Only thing appearing is the Motorola Dual Core screen). Clockwork Recovery doesn't appear on startup anymore.
How do I:
a) Unbrick and
b) Correctly install CM7.1?
Thanks to anyone who responds in advance.
EDIT: I should have read more closely, the order I performed the actions was:
1. Install CM7.1
2. Install Gapps
3. Format cache
4. Format /system.
5. Factory reset

Ya formatting /system after flashing removes the cm7 rom. Try
Format /system
Install cm7/gapps
Wipe data/cache
xt860, android 2.3.5, Monster rom

Thanks for that. Any idea on how to unsoftbrick though?
Also, the link in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1255198
is dead.
if you formated /system after installing the rom, then you need to SBF. start the phone with m+pwr, use vol down to reach AP Fastboot, then use vol up to select. download RSD 5.5 and the sbf file. check out the RSD thread in the dev section. and you are on verizon, correct?
edit: dang i see what youre referring to. the 5.6.890 download isnt working. i have it, but i dont know i dont have an account to upload to. And on my 5meg pipe itll still take a few min lol
2ndedit: i cant upload. sorry i dont have a professional account and its 455MB.. check this out it works http://rootzwiki.com/topic/4370-sbf-droid-3-fastboot-files-55959-and-56890/

I'm following this guide, figured I'd just re root and install cwm again and restore my back up. Will that work?
lol yes youve got it. follow the instructions. also, do not freak out if after you SBF it still does not boot up. Even after the SBF (RSD will show rebooting) and you could bootloop on the animation. if that happens, boot into recovery using M+pwr, select android recovery, when you get the android with the !, use vol up and down and you'll get another menu, and clear cache. then you'll be ok
and also, dont use cwm, use hashcodes safestrap. read up on safestrap, and then you can flash without worrying about bricking

Black Screen After Switching to Safe Strap

Basically the title.
I removed the Tweaked Bootstrap.apk and just downloaded and installed Safe Strap. Rebooted and performed my first backup in Safe Strap. Tried to boot into primary and got black screen.
My current ROM is the latest (11-16) version of CM7.
I don't really need Safe Strap, I kinda just want to be able to boot again. Any help is greatly appreciated.
EDIT: Formatted /system and reflashed CM7 and GApps in SAFE MODE. Can boot now, going to try booting in NON-SAFE MODE.
EDIT2: Still can't boot into non-safe mode. My whole reason for switching was to test out ICS, so I guess I can just flash it and if I need to go back, I'll just reflash CM7.
Regardless, if anyone can tell em what I'm doing wrong, I'd be appreciative.
Did you wipe everything including dalvik? and its best if you start from a stock system. No custom ROMs. then install CWM and install whatever rom you want. uninstall CWM and install safestrap. now boot into safestrap and wipe cache and all taht. Now install ICS/CM9. I found tahts the best way to do it recieve none of the errors many people are having.
Well, since safestrap can't flash nonsafe (yet) its obvious you still can't boot nonsafe if you couldn't before. What you need to do is reflash cm7 using the old bootstrap, install safestrap, make backup, then switch to safe system and flash ics.

Bootstrap and safestrap

Ok my question is how do i go between two roms that i have backed up , i have steel droid 4 backed up that uses bootstrap and i got ics using safe strap how do i go between roms, like what do i do
you should only have one bootloader at a time. But just install sd4 on the nonsafe and ics on the safe system. Then boot into recovery and toggle safe system when you wanna switch :]

ok so , just go into recovery from ics , and turn of safe mode, den i would install by doing regular factory date cache davlick an bat wipe on the regular screeen not on mount , den install 4 , den back up , and i can toggle through the back ups?
If you have SD4 on your non-safe (aka primary, non-experimental) system, simply install SafeStrap, boot into recovery, switch to Safe (it will make a backup of your non-safe), flash your ROM, reboot and bypass the splash screen. You are now in your Safe system. To go back, boot into SS, toggle back into your non-safe system (it'll back up your Safe system) and will restore the data from the backup made when you originally switched into Safe. There should be no need to wipe data or cache etc. Unless you want to recalibrate your battery.
I hope this makes sense. You don't have to manually make backups, switching systems does it for you.
lol a lil bit ok , check it , i got ics running right now, i want to install sd4, how would i do that?
To install them both on the same system do as follows.
Boot into NonSafe System [this wont be ICS]. Now uninstall safestrap and install CWM. Now just flash SD4. uninstall CWM and install Safestrap. Boot into recovery and toggle SafeSystem on. Now install the ICS zip and viola. Now just to go back to SD4, boot into recovery and toggle safe system. Then click reboot now and your in SD4. repeat steps to boot back into ICS.
PS. togglig safesystem is a battery hog so i dont recommend alot of switching while on battery and not being able to charge throughout the day.
Thanks guys i think i understand better, i didnt really wanna jump around roms, but i just wanted to have a option , incase, i like ICS and Steel Droid so far , all you guys do such good work its hard to choose lol , but thanks for your help guys i appreciate it

ICS(Leaks) and CWM

First off, let me make this clear very clear(prerequisite) I do not want to hear the word "safestrap", or any variation. I apologize for sounding arrogant , but I am not interesting in wasting my disk space(no offense against the quality work of Hashcode) or dual booting a ROM. I noticed some interesting issues with CWM recovery both the default that comes with Bionic Bootstrapper(4.x.x.x), and ROM Manager(5.x.x.x) in regards to any ICS leaks. So here is the situation, after installing the .232 leak using the "stock recovery option" it went smoothly without any issues, as well as rooting with motofail for ICS. The problems start when I first attempt to install any ROM(AOKP, CM, liquidsmooth etc etc) using 4.x.x.x CWM it appears to install correctly(even booting the ROM up and everything) but when I reboot the phone will continue to boot directly into CWM, and using the reboot option only to boot loop.(I have done the standard Wipe System/Factory reset, Wipe Cache, Wipe Dalvik Cache prior to installing any ROM). Finally, when I attempt to install an updated CWM 5.x.x.x via ROM Manager, it appears to install, but forcing the device to reboot in to recovery does not work, even the two button solute(PWR+VOL UP) as used in the second stage to force CWM to boot into the menu(worked in 4.x.x.x) it is as if it is not corretly installed.. Both CWM installs are clean, and no previous 1st/2nd stage boot loaders are installed, I would like to rule out me being a dumbf*** and it being a case of error on my part. Like I said before please do not mention "SAFESTRAP" as an option, unless it can flash over current baseline install's, having the safe option(noob proof) is not an option. If anyone can assist me with the installation or even a solution to getting CWM recovery to work after installing the ICS leaks it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again!!! Also I have tested CWM 5.x.x.x install from .905 based roms and it works flawlessly.

[Q] Safestrap and CM10 on Droid 4

I have my Droid 4 ICS rooted.
I just installed Safestrap 2.11, installed recovery from inside safestrap, rebooted, enter safestrap menu, enabled safe system, flashed cm10 rom downloaded from hash, flashed gapps zip, rebooted.... and the phone is stuck on CM10 boot animation.
Anyone have any ideas?

I had the same problem with eclipse when trying to flash a newer iteration. I tried flashing a bunch of patches and overclock without rebooting into the rom once. I would recommend factory wipe/wipe cache and reinstalling rom. if that doesnt work maybe just flash rom, boot and then reboot into recovery to flash gapps.
FYI, you need to do a factory reset the first time you install a ROM on your safe side. To be clear, you need to perform a factory reset on your SAFE side (ROM-side)
