Milestone capacitive touch buttons borked? - Motorola Droid and Milestone Q&A, Help & Troublesh

Hi everyone,
I have here an old OG Milestone that's been working perfectly and happily running CM7. However, one day I thought to pass it on to my brother, so I ran a factory wipe on it from the menu (I know, I know, noob mistake) and then the touch spazzed out. Eventually I got to bring it back to life by re-rooting and re-flashing CM7, and now it's working perfectly fine. BUT! Once it booted up, I discovered that the back capacitive touch button no longer works! All of the others (home, menu, search) are perfectly fine, and I no longer have any touch issues on the screen itself, it's behaving perfectly.
My question being, do you think a problem that occurred while I was flashing it could have been the cause of the back button no longer working? Is this possible? Or is there a way I can test if the digitizer is the culprit and I have no choice but to get it fixed?

Did you flash the latest GApps package?
I recall that some people had touch-screens issues because of this - no idea why.

yeah, I did. the same one I used for my JB GNex. which one should I be using? and what should I do if I did?

Did you try reflashing the rom?

Home and search button's not working

Hi, I have an AT&T Nexus One, running FRF85B currently. As of lately, even before update I noticed my home and search button stopped working. The haptic feedback responds when I touch them but they don't do anything. I searched the forums so please don't flame me if I missed a thread. Much thanks to anyone that can help!
P.S. I soft reset the phone a few times and also have reflashed
can you post a logcat of what happens when you press the buttons? and also try wiping cache and dalvik cache
Try to wipe and reflash and post logcat
Gfs stock phone just started doing this. Will try to get some kind of logs... A reset wouldn't make her very happy, fffuuuu

according to this we arent the only ones. it looks like a factory reset can fix the problem, but some on the link above re-encountered the problem weeks later.
surprised XDA hasnt run into this before...
in addition to home/search buttons haptic'in but not doing anything, slide lock screen goes away and the phones cannot receive calls.
Those buttons are programmable, maybe some app took control and does nothing ?A launcher perhaps?
'Programmable'? How can I set Search to ixquick?

The app's manifest needs to mention that it can handle that event

doesnt make sense though, everyone that has had this issue had all 3 completely unrelated issues:
1. buttons vibrate, do nothing
2. phone cannot receive calls
3. lock screen disappears
a wipe fixed it last night but man it was a ***** to reinstall everything for her.

This is exactly what is happening to me. I'm going to wipe now.
god damn it. this **** just started happening again... n1 has been running the OTA stock GB 2.3.3...
we ended up getting HTC to warranty the phone and everything was fine until this morning..
any help?
same
So i started having this problem about 3 weeks ago as well right after i flashed CM7's newest experimental build. first thing I witnessed was not being able to receive calls. I figured that this was a problem with CM7 and flashed modaco's r26, after a full wipe, when it just came out a few days ago. After a day, i got the problem with the lock screen and the home and search buttons not working. I again thought this was a problem with gingerbread for some reason and flashed MIUI Mod Rodriguez style rom, again full wipe. I had restored everything through titanium backup and other forms of recovery and within about 60 minutes my home button and search keys stopped working.
So I finally figured that it was some settings that I must have adjusted and carried through numerous different ROMs that caused the problems. So next time around I didn't restore anything, running on MIUI mod, and didn't restore anything for the remainder of the day to see what happened. Low and behold, after a reset the problem came back. One other complication is that the phone will always forget my google account and i'll have to re-connect it. Then I realize that the home key doesn't work. So even not importing anything from my old Rom's with a clean wipe didn't get rid of it.
I still get haptic feedback, but the buttons just don't do anything. I changed the setting for how home and search respond in both scenarios and can't get any response either. I flashed back to an old version now and so far i'm alright. But if someone can figure out why this is happening that would be awesome.
For the other people who are having this problem, when you're doing a clean wipe are you then restoring things back via titanium back up or otherwise? and when did you first start to experience these problems?
Istarted having this same problem today. I recently flashed over to cm7 rc2 and then the same thing happened. It seems like after I do a titanium backup and then change a setting it will reset to the cm boot screen and when it comes back there's no home screen or search buttons. All the same issues. Haptic feedback works but nothing happens. I'm on an evo btw.
Same thing occuring for me after flashing CM7. Reverted back to Miui, but so far no luck in fixing this. Numerous factory resets have yet to resolve as well. This is pretty frustrating...
Having this issue as well on CM7. DEFINITELY Titanium related.
I had this problem too. I just had to shut down the phone then leave it for about 10-15 minutes then turn it on again. Everything should be fine again. ^^

[Q] Screen not working in Android

My Touchpad was running CM7 3.5 and functioning perfectly. I wiped it (data, cache and dalvik) and installed XRONs 2.9.1 rom. The touchscreen was a bit hit and miss. Worked a few times but mainly didn't work. Eventually nothing was working except the hardware buttons. I went back to CM7s alpha. Screen didn't work.
Booted into WebOS- no problem. Back to CM7- still not working. Also it gets some random reboots now which never happened before.
Any ideas on how to rectify this?
its a known issue with Cm7.....i normally hold power button and home button (the hardware one at the bottom middle of the screen) to reboot it....it works perfectly after that

No it doesn't work after I do a hard reboot. As mentioned, I have reinstalled the ROM after a wipe, done reboots, its still the same. Touchscreen doesn't work at all in Android now, even after everything is wiped and re-installed. Never had the issue with any of the CM7 alpha builds up to now.
i would suggest to completely remove android using ACMEUninstaller and then install again...Xron is working really good for many users...so I dont think its the cause of ur problem
Thanks for the replies, was going to uninstall it. But today its working fine. Went back to XRON and still seems ok. Weird.
i know right? I had screen freeze issues till Xron 2.8...but i didnt have any issue since i got on 2.9.1...the issue is with CM7 drivers..

[Q] Soft Buttons Lit Up Since ICS

Hi all, hoping someone could help or at least set my mind at ease. I put the Axiom Cyanogen (?) ICS port on my Bionic yesterday and since it's been installed my soft buttons (menu, home, back, search) have been lit. Is this normal? Is there somewhere in the settings I can turn this off? I have looked thru all of them but can't seem to find the option. Thanks in advance.
it is just a random thing that happends when i flashed the axion it worked fine as soon as i flashed the 1 percent battery mod over i got the same thing so i wiped everything flashed new it worked fine so i suggested to reinstall i don't believe there are any setting that either enable/disable this just certain things that cause this that no one know a fix for it yet hope this helps..

Odd Touchscreen issues

Hey,
I have Verizon droid 3 running up in Canada, and its been working fine...however it recently started having issues with the touchscreen.
Basically the screen works normally 3% now, otherwise it only works when the keyboard is open to just above the first row of keys.
If I touch the screen while the keyboard is fully open it wont respond, but when I go back to the working position it will respond to a touch made while fully open (ie; I pressed ok after typing, it didn't submit until I closed the keyboard to the working position, like a delayed response).
It seems like a software issue, but I already hard reset.....
Any ideas? I don't want to change this phone after only 5 months (no Verizon warranty here!)..
Thanks,

Which ROM are you on, stock or a custom one?
Its a long shot, but I have odd touchscreen issues when plugged into cheap power sources (inverters, etc). You may want to check the battery - pop it out for a bit, put it back in, maybe try someone else's, etc...

Oh ok, then I'm not really sure. I would, if you want, try and flash right back to complete stock and see if your having the same troubles. If you are then it's almost guaranteed to be a hardware problem. However, if the problem doesn't persist then it could have just been some weird bug or glitch that happened. I've had some weird things happen a week or so after a flash and it was software related.
But all this would be having you do a reflash either through CWM/Safestrap or sbf and then you lose everything you have (Though you can backup & restore apps via Titanium Backup). So if you don't end up reflashing I understand
Also does this happen only at certain times/intervals say when your charging? Hope this helps!
Edit: I looked at the orig post at work and forgot to look at it again. A hard reset should be able to fix it, but you never know. I would recommend a reflash and see what happens. Sorry I can't be more help
I hate you. I read your post yesterday and thought "huh, that's really weird and unfortunate." I woke up today and the same thing is happening to me. I haven't flashed anything since April. It was totally out of the blue.
Mine only works when the screen is slid open bout half a centimeter, not even enough to force the screen to rotate.

That's exactly what's happening....It's been like this for a week. However, it sometimes works when I left it for the night to charge...or randomly, but full functionality lasts only a few minutes.
has there been any update on this status? im trying to fix a friends with the same problem.

I'm in the same train
It's strange.
Yesterday my touchscreen it was completely unresponsive the whole day.
stock rom, everything untouched
i rebooted it a million times. closed or open make no difference.
today, it is working amazingly
what was the difference? nothing at all! it layed on my desk all night
i don't understand how the digitizer can go between perfect condition and not working as it wish.

[Q] Ghost Touching problem

Apparently I'm having problems with my touch screen (including the 4 touch buttons), this doesn't affect any other function and other physical keys.
Now, the problem:
After few minutes (2-3 min) of usage the screen wont respond to any touch input and it also seems like a ghost is touching the screen even if i dont. If charging the malfunction appears more quickly. I have assumed that it is relative to the how fast my phone heats up.
What I tried so far:
Changed Rom - still the same
Reverted to stock Rom without root - SURPRISE, its still the same....
Can anyone help me? Is there something else I should try doing?
same problem here too
what i tried smartflash v 20g with recovery and without
flashed v30g with out recovery
same problem dont know what to do if hardware problem will last go in for screen replacement
if any one can suggest a solution would much appreciate by the way was on makay rom when problem started :crying:
