Hi,
Noticing there are STILL lots of people who are S-ON and asking "how do i flash through fast boot?"
USE THIS!!
just unzip the attachment, place it on you desktop, place your IMG in the same DIR and click the correct bat file.
if you want to flash a boot.img, press "Flash boot.img.bat" same goes for recovery.img and the unlock bootloader file from HTC Dev (Unlock_code.bin)
I know how to fastboot a boot.img but can you answer these questions for me :3? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1753796
I had a scare 2 months ago where it got stuck in boot logo and just kept rebooting at one point. Don't want to follow that same road.
DUDE YOU FRICKIN ROCK!!!!!
Thanks!!

Hi XDA
I have a problem.
I was gonna upgrade my HTCDEV unlocked Incredible S with CM7 to Ice Cold Sandwich.
So i tried flashing the ICS .zip and when i rebooted it was stuck on splash screen.
I figured this was because I was on an incompatible firmware version so I decide to flash the latest ICS RUU.
I start by relocking the bootloader and after that run the RUU.
About halfway through it stops with an error message.
Now I can only boot into bootloader, pressing the recovery tab just opens fastboot menu, if I try to run the RUU again it stops immediatly with error 170 and if I try to install a recovery manualy i get the error FAILED (remote: signature verify fail)
Only thing that works is fastboot commands
How screwed am I?

The mistake you made was not manually flashing the boot.img file from the ICS ROM.zip since you had the unlocked bootloader.
Which RUU are you trying to install? You may just need to extract the ROM.zip from the RUU and copy that to your sd card and rename it PG32IMG.zip. Then when you reboot into the bootloader it will attempt to load it.

OK then just extract the ROM.zip from the %TEMP% directory as I previously suggested and you should be good to go.

Well...
The RUU shots down before the rom.zip is extracted to the temp folder.
But if you think this will work, would you then mind running the RUU yourself and upload the rom.zip somewhere where I can dl it?
If you have a compatible phone that is
Thank you

Run the RUU without the phone connected. Just leave it sit on the first screen and then you can find the ROM.zip in the %TEMP% directory.

Just flash the 4EXT recovery image in FASTBOOT USB mode using the command:
fastboot flash recovery [path to the recovery.img file]
It is best to just copy the recovery.img file to the directory where you run FASTBOOT.exe from.

Yes, unlock your bootloader from HTCdev.com.
Assuming you are still s off,you just need to pack up your recovery image into a zip file with an android info text document. This type of file is easily installed via fastboot and ruu mode.
The easiest way to make this file is to take another file, like the firmware file from an OTApkg or an ruu. Extract it,and delete everything but the android info text file. Insert your recovery image. Rezip.
Alternately, you could always re-unlock the old fashioned way,via htcdev. Depending on if any parameters have changed, you may even be able.to use your original unlock_code.bin

Was it a new unlock-code or onw that you generated the first time you have unlocked?
Are you still s-off? if yes do what mentioned above.

not back up, pack up!
Like he said, use a firmware.zip archive from i.e. a ruu or ota. Delete all file except the android-info-txt. Place your custom recovery named recovery.img in that archive then flash it in ruu mode, make sure the android-info.txt match your device info, edit it as required.
Code:
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot flash zip firmware.zip
fastboot reboot-bootloader

You don't back up your recovery image. You use the one you want to install(twrp or clockwork)
Yes,you can do it without root. But as I said, you must be s off.

I have moto x dev ed, I just unlock the bootloader. i tried to install this custom recovery i keep getting this.
<bootloader> variable not supported!
target reported max download size of 805306368 bytes
etc etc...
im trying to download the twrp custom recovery
i dont why it keeps doing that
I know when fastboot flashing the system.img you must use mfastboot due to the partition size, but the recovery.img should flash with fastboot. Maybe give mfastboot a try?

It worked But when I try to load it , now When I tried to load twrp it shows the dead android logo
Fastboot the recovery.img then type fastboot reboot and choose recovery in fastboot menu

Sounds like it did not flash correctly because the laying down android leads to the stock recovery. I would try redownloading twrp for ghost again and make sure that is in the folder with fastboot and verify your getting the file name correct when flashing. Just repeating the steps all the through may be successful, we all miss a step occasionally. Good luck [emoji106]
Edit: p.s. I did read somewhere that some people had issue with recovery not sticking after flashing. They got around this by typing the command fastboot reboot bootloader right after flashing the recovery. After that custom recovery would stick.
I'm still getting the same error. Am I suppose to hold the volume up button until the recovery loads?
If you are boot loader unlocked and rooted just use flashify to flash the image file.

After you flash your recovery are you booting straight to recovery with the volume up button?

Yes I am booting to recovery with the volume up button, immediately after I flash it. Alright I will use flashily when I get home after working. Wait no I am not rooted.. I just unlock the boot loader only. I thought you download twrp first and then download supersu to root?

Well the thing is if I don't rename it to "Recovery.img" it will not flash but when I get home I will try using flashify. If that doesn't work, I'd be willing to send anyone $20 through PayPal if they can install twrp with supersu on my phone from teamviewer or another Remote Desktop application

Put the twrp.img file in your SDK folder with your fastboot.exe files. Not on your device.
Is USB debugging turned on?
If so in download mode when you type fastboot devices do you see your device?
If so you just shift right click and open command prompt from that folder you have the files in on your PC.
Then fastboot flash recovery "name of file". IMG
After that volume down to recovery and then volume up to enter twrp.
Just to be clear, you are using the command:
fastboot flash recovery twrp-2.8.4.0-ghost.img (assuming twrp-2.8.4.0.img is the recovery file) and you have copied 'SuperSU-v2.46.zip' into the root of internal memory (called sdcard). After flashing the recovery, you should definitely not boot directly to the system. You should issue the command fastboot reboot-bootloader. Then, choose recovery from the menu and up arrow to start it. I can't remember the exact order of things, but somewhere along the way twrp will prompt you about the supersu and near the end it will ask about making changes so the stock recovery isn't applied back over twrp. Let it make the changes. When you do boot into the system you should have root.

I downloaded an RUU .zip file, it didn't help;
When trying to flash it using fastboot:
Code:

I get a signature failed error. And I still can't unlock my bootloader.

Yeah, I tried these commands but when trying to rebootRUU , the phone just reboots normally and gets stuck on HTC logo. As for the link, I'll look for it online and post it here in a while.

i think the zip file can't flash with fastboot because we don't turn on the developer option
so the only way to fix this is RUU.exe
