[Q] Official ICS update RUU - HTC Incredible S

Hello,
I am from India. We haven't yet received the update for ICS on our devices. Can I just run the RUU with this file for my phone:
RUU_VIVO_ICS_35_S_HTC_WWE_4.10.405.1_Radio_20.74.3 0.0833U_3831.18.00.11_M_release_266013_signed.exe - 378.4 MB
Will the ICS work if I just run this update utility on my phone. Or should I wait for a region specific ICS?

You wont be able to Run the RUU due to CID mismatch im assuming you have dont have a goldcard or S-off.
wait for the OTA update..you know we Indians have a habit of being late....:laugh::laugh::laugh:

Hey thanks buddy. One question, I am new to HTC but what is goldcard? I understand S-OFF after searching all over the internet.
If you dont mind, do you have stock Gingerbread now on your device or a custom rom?

Goldcard is a modified SDcard that allows you to flash any RUU, inshort it prevents the CID check performed by the RUU.
by the way i am S-Offed with Revolutionary and i have Niks Trinity XL v5.0 installed :laugh::laugh::laugh:

So can I just proceed with creating a Gold card for myself without S-OFF and run the RUU for ICS update?
or should I be S-OFF as well along with Gold card creation. One last question. Is this the same update that would be rolled out to Indian customers as well or will there be any modifications?

Well there are two thinks that you should consider while going along with the steps
1) if you apply the OTA update to your mobile HTC will update the Hboot to version 2.02.000 something then you will never ever able to get s-off and install any custom roms
2) you can procede with the gold card method and then apply the update, but please proceed with caution any wrong step might brick your phone. i would advice since you are not experienced with rom flashing and rooting to wait for the Official ICS update from India they would be propbably out in a day or 2
3) if you are S-off you can try this ...

it is the same OTA updates
and yeah dont forget to hit thanks if you like my post...

I will definitely hit the thanks button but before I let u go, I would want to install the rooted Official update that you mentioned in the third link. So I may have to apply S-OFF. My question is if I do turn the S-OFF and apply the Rooted RUU, will I be able to install custom roms in future as well. And can you post a link on how to proceed with S-OFF. That's what all I need. Nothing more mate.

Yes, once you S-OFF and install a custom recovery, you will be able to install custom ROMs, too.
You should check out the Downgrade Script sticky post in this forum to gain S-OFF.

Can I flash the ICS RUU? I have:
VIVO PVT SHIP S-OFF RL
HBOOT-6.13.1002
RADIO-3805.06.03.03_M
eMMC-boot
Will the RUU update my
- Hboot
- Radio
- Root status
- S-OFF status

@esoul
There is no need to flash the ruu just flash the zip file provided in the link mention by me in the first post and you will have a good stock experience of the ics
Sent from my Incredible S using xda app-developers app

Just download the zip Rom from below link...place it in you as card
Boot into recovery
Wipe data/factory reset
Wipe cache and dalvik cache
Wipe battery stats
And install the zip from sd card
Once you are done the Rom will take around 5-10 mins for first boot please have patience

To which method are you referring to? References both the downgrade script to gain Revolutionary S-OFF as well as using the stock, rooted ICS ROM built from the RUU.
If you asking about installing the stock, rooted ICS ROM it does not include the radio.img, so it will not update your radio.

Now please help me out installing the stock ICS with root that you had posted.
Should I just paste it in my SD card and install it through recovery. or should I do anything else first.

You have posted a general question in the Developement forum. Anyway, it's not possible.
look at the bright side
I, too, mistakingly upgrade to 2.30.405.1. Looking forward to a way to be downgraded and S-off.
At the mean time, however, I made myself enjoin using better FM-Radio signal and much better image quality from camera in 2.30.405.1.
Note: my previous built was Gingerbread_S_HTC_WWE_2.12.405.7
it is possible to flash another RUU ROM using goldcard on a phone that comes with 2.30.405.1 ?

No. You can't go 'backwards' with a Goldcard, just flash RUUs from different regions. If that were possible to do, then everyone on 2.30.405.1 would be able to downgrade and root easily and there wouldn't be any problems with it.
You have to flash the 2.12 Rom.zip via sd (gold) but change the 2.12 version number in the android-text to 2.30...worked for me...

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but that will only work if you have S-OFF because by modifying the contents of the android-text file in the PG32IMG.zip file will invalidate the HTC signature and the HBOOT loader will fail trying to flash it an unsigned file.

I think that must be true, otherwise everyone would be doing it to get S-OFF!

Not necessarily, it depends on the ROM you're currently running. For the most part you can use a gold card to flash an RUU that's the same version or newer than what you're running currently, which is useful to get a ROM that doesn't have the exploit patched that AlphaRevX uses. Some carrier's ROMs can't be flashed at all, no matter what, gold card or not. For example the latest Verizon Wireless ROM is completely locked down and can't be flashed/rooted/S-OFF'd without using an XTC Clip. Other carriers are better about leaving the ROM's alone. All you can do is try and see what happens.

loading...PG32IMG.zip
when load complete:
checking...PG32IMG.zip
and after this step back to main hboot page and after reboot NO HAPPENS to my phone!!! my last rom is still alive you sure this way worked for you????

Even with a goldcard, if you are S-ON and you modify the PG32IMG.zip by editting the android-info.txt file to change the version, you no longer have a HTC signature on the zip file and it will not flash. With S-ON you will not be able to flash a ROM that has a version number less than 2.30.xxx.x
Then have anyone known what "ROM that has a version number greater than or equal to 2.30.xxx.x" and can be S-off by "Alpharevx".
I also tried the same, even with a gold card. I think it worked for him because he is already S-OFF.
There is nothing we can do until a temp root method is found for 2.30. Or we could use an xtc clip to gain s-off.
if i use the clipm then will it be s-offed forever? or if u update hboot, then its fall back to s-on?

The XTC clip will give you permanent S-OFF. Flashing a new HBOOT will not affect the S-OFF setting.

Debranding Bell Incredible S to WWE?

Hey I just want to make sure of a few things before I try this... I saw the thread below but it doesn't saying anything about being able to downgrade later on. I have a Bell incS with the stock 2.3.3 version 2.28.666.3. My phone is not rooted or S-Off but I have made a gold card and was going to flash the WWE RUU 2.30.405.1 to get rid of the bloat. Is it as simple as that? Would it be possible to downgrade back to the original Bell 2.28.666.3 RUU later if I needed warranty with the gold card or not? Also any issues to worry about with debranding like radio/wifi problems or anything else? Thanks

If you don't have S-OFF on your BM IncS, then you won't be able to flash the WWE 2.30.405.1 RUU because that ROM is for the S710E model (model id PG321300) and the BM Incs is a S710A model (model id PG321200) and it will fail with 'wrong model id' error.
If you go ahead and S-OFF, then you can take the WWE 2.30.405.1 RUU and extract the ROM.zip and modify the android-info.txt file in the ROM.zip to change the model id. After that process, you would copy the modified ROM.zip file to the root of your SD card and rename it PG32IMG.zip. Then boot into HBOOT and it will find the PG32IMG.zip file and ask if you want to apply the update. You will then have an unbranded, unrooted IncS. The second advantage of S-OFF is that it will allow you to reflash the BM 2.28.666.3 RUU.
I'm looking at doing the same thing. Wondering if patrick92260 has had any success. I have the Virgin IS and want to debrand it as its loaded with useless BELL apps. Will be attempting this myself, let you know how it goes.
Q: First question is, now that I have the .exe of RUU. How do I go about getting the ROM.zip file.
Figured it out on my own, but for others who are curious.
A:Windows > Run > %TEMP%
Then list by 'last modified folder' and it should be the first one there.
I decided not to debrand the phone because of the different model ID for the Canadian IncS. If you debrand the phone to a WWE RUU it most likely won't ever be able to get an OTA update because when it's tries to update the phone's model ID will still be different. If there is no RUU for that new update then you'll probably be stuck with what you have.
Maybe if the IncS ever gets an actual radio S-Off I will try it.
If you still tried to debrand it though, how did it go?

Just a point of clarification. When I debranded my Bell IncS, I put the original WWE GB 2.12.405.7 ROM on it. I then received the OTA notification that 2.30.405.1 was available, so even though you won't get a Bell OTA, you do get the WWE unbranded OTAs.

Hmm maybe I'll go ahead and give it a try then. You didn't have any issues upgrading to the WWE OTA or have problems once it was debranded? I ask just because I know if you debranded the original Desire it would kill the WiFi and I think it caused reception issues.

I have not had any issues of debranding my Bell IncS with the WWE roms.
The OTA downloaded fine, but like all OTAs, it checks to make sure you have a stock version of the previous ROM, in this case 2.12.405.7. If you have ClockworkMod installed, the OTA will fail because that isn't the stock recovery. I could have flashed the stock recovery and ran the OTA, but I choose to take the 2.30.405.1 RUU and make a rooted version of it using dsi's XDA Android kitchen and ended up flashing that.
Debranding went smoothly. Flashed the WWE just fine after editing the file.
Then went ahead and installed 4EXTRecovery and Virtuous Unity over that though.
Whether doing the debranding helped or not, I'm not sure. Either way I'm down to just essential apps in this rom, no bloatware.
As for OTA updates, who cares really. If you're on this forum, you've got enough knowledge to flash yourself and not have to wait for OTA updates to arrive.
Original Bell Incredible S rom
Any one have the OEM "stock" rom/radio/kernel from Bell in case of warranty?
I did not think about this when I flashed mine and it would be great in case the hardware fail..
everything is working perfectly fine right now so it's just a "in case" question.

No, if you have BlackRose S-OFF, you will not be able to flash the 4.14.405.2 RUU. There is a link in my signature that is a stock, rooted ROM based on this RUU that you can safely install. I would recommend that along with poondog's kernel that is also linked in my signature.

I followed, Step 1, Skipped 2. Couldn't follow Step3, since I had bootrom HBOOT 1.13.0000, I could never get the OEM identifier token. Then I directly performed Step 9 to get revolutionary soff. Then I followed Step 4,5 to install clockwork recovery and root my phone. Then I performed Step 6. That's it. No other steps or flashing of custom rom.

No. Run the blackrose tool. (Make sure you have CM7 or another rooted ROM for this). Fully run it so that now, in the bootloader, instead of Revolutionary, You should see Blackrose. Then run the tool again but this time select Uninstall Blackrose and at the end of that, you should have HBOOT 1.13.0000. Relock bootloader and then run the RUU.
Or you can just use tbpklake's stock rooted ROM. That was built off the lateset WWE RUU I believe.

Original poster, did you get this to work ?
I am trying to downgrade from 2.02.0002 and get the following when running the RUU process:-
"THE ROM UPDATE UTILITY CANNOT UPDATE YOUR ANDROID PHONE"
"PLEASE GET THE CORRECT ROM UPDATE UTILITY AND TRY AGAIN"
I notice you are on 2.02.0002 the same, but the link to 'All in One Noob Guide For Downgrade and S Off' actually says 2.00 and not 2.02.
Just wondering if you got the same issue as me and the poster who mentioned the link didnt see you said 2.02.
Thanks
Regards

I was working with a user this week that was trying to use the script to downgrade HBOOT 2.02.0002 and it appears that the tacoroot exploit to get temp root does not work on HBOOT 2.02.0002, so the script is unable to run misc_version to change the mainver value to 2.00.0000, so therefore it will not work at the moment for a stock, unrooted phone.
You would have to resort to unlocking the bootloader at HTCDEV.com, install a custom recovery and then root the ROM in order to use the downgrade and gain S-OFF.

To flash recovery from 4ext recovery control, you need s-off. You will have to do the manual way, by entering this command 'fastboot flash recovery recovery.img'.

If you have HBOOT 2.02.0002 and you unlock using HTCDEV.com you will be able to:
1. Flash a custom recovery.
2. Once you have a custom recovery you will be able to:
A. Root your current ROM by installing SU-3.1.3.zip
B. Flash a custom, rooted ROM.
So I believe that should answer your questions. You may now exit the maze.

Yes, I install the WE WANT ICS v4 ROM and now I have the root permission
At this point, what mean S-ON / S-OFF and what permits?

S-ON/S-OFF is used to reference the Security flag setting in the phone. If you have Security Off, then you can flash almost everything to your phone, including a new radio.
With an unlocked bootloader like you have, you can flash some of the same items as S-OFF with the 2 biggest exceptions being:
1. You cannot flash a new radio.
2. The boot partition is not mounted as R/W when in Recovery mode, thus the reason you manually have to flash the boot.img while in FASTBOOT USB mode.

INCs S-OFF with ICS RUU NAM CANADA Problem

Yep. If you we're S-Off with Revolutionary then you cannot use the ICS RUU. The ICS RUU was not able to overwrite the Revolutionary HBOOT with the new ICS HBOOT 2.03 which this ROM needs.
You need to reinstall a custom Recovery and then flash a custom rooted ROM to get your phone operational.

No the radio should not be a problem.
I think that, he could have used the instructions on that link to downgrade and flash the new boot image to his device, and everything would have work.
Follow the instructions at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1359555 (just de fastboot portion). Download vivo_downgrade.img provided in the previous link. Extract rom.zip from the nam Canada ics 4 ruu. Extra the file hboot_2.03.000_3b35dcew_0828.img from rom.zip and use these to files with the fasboot instructions given at the previous link.

Yes, good call. That should work as a solution. He also could have upgraded the Revolutionary HBOOT to BlackRose HBOOT 2.02.0002 and gotten it to boot.
Lol, I should have used a spell checker to write my post. Sorry about all the mistakes.
Hey thanks glussier and tpbklake for your assistance... I successfully got my phone working with cyanogen mod 7 for now, but I will attempt blackrose and see if I have better results installing that HTC ICS for the IncS
Thanks again
Just an update!
Installed Blackrose then reinstalled the ICS Canada RUU and viola we are in business

That is great to know! Thanks for the update.
Great. Now, if you want to push-it a little, you could try installing a custom kernel such as xs-ics-2.2: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1851121
I find that I can run @ 1.2 to 1.4ghz fully stable, without adverse effects to battery life, and with a better ics experience.
worked great over Blackrose 2.02
I installed this update this weekend over Blackrose 2.02 and it worked properly.
I'm hoping the devs will use this as a baseline for new ROMS as it is ICS and everything works. The camera, Wifi hotspot, video and all features are operational.
Complaints about this ROM:
1. NEED ROOT ACCESS. After having full access I can't go back.
2. Ringtone and notification are linked. They're not linked under Ice Cold Sandwich or Cooldroid, so there must be a way to break the link.
3. The HTC Sense quick links menu could be so much better. Ice Cold Sandwich did such a great job of this!
4. It's a little laggy at times. Back to all the HTC bloatware, no doubt.

Help rooting my HTC one international?

I have an international HTC one but I don't know which guide to follow. Do I need to s-off to convert to cm ROMs? I have the latest ota update sense 6 android 4.4.2 so will I need to s-off and will I ever need to convert my firmware to change into multiple ROMs? And I see 4 ways to s-off which is the right one to follow?(if s-off needed)

no, but its recommended to use latest firmware. Btw its easier to s-off on older firmware version (hboot 1.44 i.e)

You need to follow the method that match your hboot version. A little bit of reading would have tell you that
My advice: read more from this forum before doing anything to your phone, looks like you don't understand few basic things like what is root vs s-off? what is firmware vs software? You might also want to make sure you know how to go back to 100% stock before modding your phone. Sticky threads are your friends, read them and ask question if its not clear.

again you need to read more, you are confusing 2 different things
boot.img is the kernel
hboot is the bootloader
hboot (bootloader) version doesnt matter when flashing roms
boot (kernel) is not secured on the htc one so it doesn't require to be flashed manually after flashing a rom like on some other htc models. Boot.img is included in every htc one roms.
.
if you want to flash a custom rom you need:
unlocked bootloader
custom recovery installed (twrp 2.6.3.3 for every 4.4+ Sense based roms or twrp 2.7.1.1 for CM roms, the only exception are GPE roms which will require s-off)
adb/fastboot knowledge to unlock the bootloader, flash the recovery and push the rom.
my advice is make a BACKUP... really dont forget. I did and had a tough time getting the phone back to work.
And read some more on these forums, what i did was:
1. unlock bootloader via htcdev
2. flash a custom recovery (at first i used clockworkmod but got in trouble later, twrp fixed it eventually so id advice go with twrp)
3. backup everything
4. flash custom mod (i used revolution hd 71.1 but check which version u could use best)
5. flash kernel (at first i used evolution x but didnt work , got a anti-firewater patch error when trying s-off with firewater. Bulletproof kernel worked)
6. use firewater to s-off.
I know you don't want to s-off, but in case of emergency OMGWTF brick, s-off is better to restore your phone back to stock as some ruu files are not signed and would need s-off to flash. And if there is no ruu for your newer firmware, then you need s-off to downgrade. Going back to s-on is a simple Fastboot command, but getting s-off requires an exploit that may get patched like it has time and time again. So, s-off while you can

SIM detection? All s-off does is remove the secure flag. Of course with s-off you can do a plethora of things like what you linked. Why would you want to change your cid or downgrade?
