cm7? - HTC Vivid, Raider, Velocity

What would it take to build a good cm7 from till we figure pics out. I can and will test in the evenings. May be easier/fast. Good fully functional rom.

[ROM/AOSP] Cyaonbread - The Best of CM6 and 7 All Rolled in to One - v1 soon

With the buildbots not up yet, I've been working on a little project in secret for a while. I call it Cyanobread. My plan here is to make a CM7 that has all of CM 6.1's bells and whistles before the CM7 team does. Some patches I will probably submit, and some will be only for this ROM as they go against the ideas of what Cyanogen wants. I haven't decided yet if I will keep this updated once the buildbots come back. If it divulges from the CM7 project significantly than probably.... otherwise I will just keep this as a mod for a few patches you can add to CM7.
My philosophy behind doing this ROM is the fact that I love CM6 and have used the nightlies as my daily driver and was very dissapointed 7 wasn't up on the buildbots.
Even though this is mostly a CM7Src ROM, please report any bugs here and I will do my best to either report them to the CM Team or fix them myself if I can. Same thing goes for any features you'd like to see added.
My approach to deving is a very collaborative one. Invisiblek, jladronka and DS36 will be helping me with this project. If any other devs would like to help, please shoot me a PM. The more the merrier, I really want to see a nice group project out of this.

Just saying...
Interesting (but then again, I'm a ROM hua), I'm on board.
I'm also interested in Cyanocomb when it's ready. ;-)
sounds interesting, i'll definitely try it
Looking forward to it.....I know I should not ask, but.....ETA?
lol I dont go by the No ETA rule so long as you dont mind if you're wrong.
well this has been an in work project for a few weeks... finally had a full compile this morning but was missing some apps.... so i decidedd to make clean and do it again... first time my laptop blue screened, then it hibernated because I forgot to plug it in.... I'm thinking within a few hours.
I'm looking forward to this.
Back in my Blackberry days we used to call these Hybrids. Some of the most functional, stable BB OSs were patched together from different OSs or even bits and pieces from different phones.
Of course, some hybrids were the biggest train wrecks also...
I have high hopes for this. Good luck!
Heh, FrankenROM.
sorry for not getting this out tonight... I had a few minor setbacks. Teaser installer video coming in a few minutes. Right now, it is completely stock CM, and you can think of the teaser as a .5 of sorts. v1 will be out tomorrow I promise. Very minor tweaks that I am going to do to start out with.
Excuse my ignorance, whats the point? Isn't CM7 the best of 6 and 7 all rolled into one sprinkled over some Gingerbread?

This ^^ I'm running gridlock's CM 7 latest build and so far, it's got all the mods that CM6.# has, on GB.
What exactly are you planning on adding that it doesn't already have?

Cause I went from Cm6.1 to to 7 up to the latest 32, and there's nothing at all that has made me say "Oh damn, I miss that from CM6". CM7 has TONS more tweaks, and a pretty bad ass music player.
Glad to see I'm not the only one wondering what the point of this is...
when i started this project that wasn't the case. a lot o the goodies in CM6 were missing... I plan to add my own little touch to it and hopefully diverge from the CM project slightly. Video's not going to happen, having some issue with the touchscreen....will look at it in the morning.
hmmm... no issue with the touch screen... but somehow this compiled lacking a keyboard... blah... i was hopeful... oh well... will deal wiith it in the morning

[Q] If Enom 2.14.4 is it, what's next for you?

Guys,
I'm a stability freak, kind of the opposite end of the planet from the CM7 nightly guys I suppose... I love the extra features that are in some ROMs, but Enom's ROM has lots of nice features and is rock solid stable.
But as we all know, he has taken personal leave of Android since December and maybe he'll come back, maybe he won't...
So for you all who want a stable ROM similar to Enom, what are you considering, or what have you already tried? I'm hoping CM7 gets stable and released in the next bit and I'll perhaps move to it, but I really don't want to leave Enom. However I've heard Gingerbread is a bit faster, better storage efficiency, plus fixes, etc..
I'd create a poll, but there's too many ROMs to really put in there I suppose and I'd inevitably leave one or two out, so I won't.
Really never had a problem with CM7. It never reboots and I always get my calls/messages. What do you need more stability from.
You could always try the stock rooted rom plus whatever extras you need.
I am currently using Geo's stock GB ROM. It is running pretty good. DT A2SD seems to screw with the phone volume. (Not sure how or why, but I tested this extensively over the last 2 hours and it definitely does something to it.) Battery life is a little bit lacking. Perhaps a better kernel will help that out. The only thing that is really needed is trackball wake/unlock. I hope someone can fix the code for GB soon. I never really cared for FM radio, so no loss there for me. Aside from the lack of Enom's spare parts, I am happy with it.
lets hope enom comes back to us (greedily ).. i think were all in agreeance when i say he has his priorities straight... all the best to enom..
aside from that, i enjoyed leos roms shortly after froyo was released. i think he was on personal leave as well just recently.. his spare parts reminded me of enoms as far as options. even though he doesnt have the 'hardware skills' necessary, id love to see more from leo..

Very happy with the speed & stability of Geo's GB rom!
CM7 RC1 running VERY well for me. No wonks, great battery.. stable and fast
Yes I am missing enomthers latest touch for the gingerbread ota. But family comes first. Right now I am using dsixda gingerbread rom with root, deodexe, dt's apps2sd, busybox. So far it is running good. Was on geo114m's gingerbread for a little while.
What I miss about enomthers rom is the ability to uninstall programs that you are not going to use. Now I have to semi cook a rom taking out the stuff I don't want. Only thing all of these ota gbs are missing is the trackball wake and alert. Might go back to the latest enomther until that happens.

I'm coming from Enom's ROM. I took the plunge and installed a couple of nightlies, and then CM7RC1.
I deeply regret it.
Even Dewonkifier didn't help me. Today my mic went silent and I had to reboot to regain it. I can't count the calls I've missed in the last week.
I don't like having to recompile it to build battery percentage.
Gingerbread completely sucks when it comes to launchers (or should I say it the other way around - all the launchers completely suck under Gingerbread). No launcher has been optimized to work with more than 5 screens - and that includes Go-EX / ADW / LP. They suck so badly I can't stand it. Nexus S has it the same way for almost 2 months - and it hasn't been fixed yet. I don't have high hopes of somebody fixing it too soon, until more devices with GB appear.
The only reason I'm keeping CM7 at this point is because I want to correct its RTL language support - it annoys me (specifically when mixing RTL and LTR languages, and more specifically - in punctuation). Plus, I hope to make it distinguish between LTR and RTL strings using a bit better algorithm than the "any RTL symbols in the string? => RTL string" current one. And make it adjustable under CM menus.
This week/weekend I hope to find enough time for it, test it, hopefully submit it (if I get a better solution than the current one), and I'm seriously considering going back to Enom's ROM, at least until one of the launchers gets GB-compatible and CM7 will be merged with GRI40 source and gets rid of the wonks. Never had this SMS bug for a year, don't think it'll bother me in another couple of months. And I don't use Copy-Paste nearly enough to justify GB sweetness. I'll really miss the screen animation...
Thank you very much kind sir.

This may actually be my first post here on XDA after countless hours of reading, installing, testing, tweaking and starting all over with my N1.
Your post title says it all. When Enomther called it quits, I figured my N1 had reached it's zenith and would live out it's days rocking The Official 2.14.4. This ROM does it all: Fast, many kernels available to play with, feature-rich, STABLE, did I mention fast?
Out of curiosity regarding the sheer number of threads, I just had to try an MIUI ROM. Tried the stock set-up from miui-dev.com. While I thought the graphics and integrated feature set was great, it was very buggy. Lots of little things just did not work as they should have.
I was not interested in CM7 as bloat seems to have sapped away speed over the last several months.
However, I have run the Gingerbread custom set-up put together by Geo411m and it rocks! Very stable so far, good battery life with the stock kernel, everything works like it should and the performance is excellent. Menus are snappy, web pages scroll smoothly...there are very few issues and I am thrilled that the N1s have a new lease on life.
Only two gripes about Gingerbread so far:
1) No Trackball unlock
2) No power widget integrated into the pull down - I LOVED this feature for toggling system states.
Other than those minor issues that I am sure will be addressed in future ROMs, I am thrilled with GB. Now if only Enomther would weave his magic once again...
Thanks to the great community that makes these phones so fun and powerful!

I'm with the TS when he says that he needs stability. CM7 up until RC1 was just not cutting it, too many wonks and quarks. I put CM7 RC1 on my N1 and it works, but I ended up back on Kang - o - rama's version of cm6.1. Now that I've seen Kangorama release a version with CM7, I may give that a shot.
One of my biggest concerns is memory. If I don't need the stock launcher or ADW, then I don't want to waste the memory there. Kang o rama really works that out with its advanced installer.
For now though, I'm more than happy with Kang o rama. My N1, my gf's N1, and my roommates N1 all are running it and are VERY pleased.
So not surprisingly overwhelming CM7 responses.. So maybe I'll try that as well, but I'm still going to wait until CM7 is released and the "wonky" stuff is fixed.
It's funny how some of us are having polar opposite experiences with CM7 RC1. Really good for some and totally lousy for others
I guess it depends on the usage, and on the level of stability required from the ROM...
I think if I was used to rebooting my phone once in a couple of days - I wouldn't notice some of the problems. If I wasn't used to having 7 screens filled with widgets and icons - I wouldn't complain about the launchers and GB. If I had a lot of calls - possibly I wouldn't have the phone idle for enough time to wonk out. Some uses make the problems more visible.

I'm running this one as well.
I've found it to be extremely stable and even better battery life than Enom's. I've also seen an improvement in bluetooth connectivity.
I miss most the status bar power control widget, better trackball notification and the flexibility of his spareparts mod.

these are the exact two features I'm missing from the GB roms out there. I tried Geos GB rom and after a few hours I couldn't deal without having these features.

[Q] ROM decisions

I've had my Nexus One for 2 years now and have had a few different ROMs on it. I've been pretty loyal to Cyanogen and used Kangarama for a while which was a Cyanogen base. Currently I'm using CM 7.1 with Intersectraven's kernel and it is fast and smooth. The only thing is, I've grown bored of CM lately.
My wife has a Samsung Vibrant and I've taken her from Simply Honey to CM 7 to ICS Passion and now to MIUI. Each ROM was drastically different than the one before. She loves MIUI now and told me she wants to keep that one for a long time. I messed with it for a while and have to admit that it is pretty cool.
I started thinking: should I go to CM nightlies for a change or should I use MIUI? I have some hangups about MIUI though. I figured yous guys are the ones to ask about this. Is MIUI as customizable as CM 7? Is it as fast? Are the CM 7 nightlies currently stable enough for use as a daily driver? My knowledge of Android is strong enough that I've used nightlies before and understand that there are bugs but is the currently a build where pretty much everything works? Do the nightlies currently have many more new faetures than CM 7.1 or are they a lot the same?
I don't normally ask questions like this but today I figured what the hell? I would just flash and try them out but I use DarkTremor's A2SD and I've never had luck with a new ROM unless I do a Titanium backup, backup my SD to my computer, wipe and repartition my SD card, copy the data back to my FAT partition, flash, reinstall A2SD, then restore from Titanium. That makes the process take a couple of hours for me.
Any info/opinions on the subject would be appreciated and thanx in advance.
For me, nightlies never were an option and will most likely never be. Weeklies at least.
I used to have MIUI.us and it was ok. Fast and everything, but I soon got to realize that MIUI wasn't for me. Too "flashy". I use samuaz's CM7.2 build with IntersectRaven's kernel and it's fast and stable and all that. A little bored with CM7 now but the only reason I use it is while waiting for a stable ICS/CM9 build.

I'll look into that build. Thanx for the fast response.
I'm not pumped for an ICS build until they get the kernel needed for full hardware acceleration. When I put ICS Passion on my wife's Vibrant, it ran well with few FC's but it didn't have full hardware acceleration either and it was pretty darned slow compared to other ROMs I've put on there. That is why I ended up putting MIUI on her phone. She couldn't stand the slowness.

I too will put ICS on hold until it's got all I want in it.
MIUI is very highly "theme-able", though, considering you can mix and match themes as you wish. Let's say you wish to have an ICS lockscreen theme and a completely different SMS theme while having a third dialer theme. No problemo there.

Here's his topic: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1416894
But you'll have to put up with downloading it from depositfiles, though ^^
If your using CM7, there is no need to switch to nightlies. There were only a handful released after 7.1 stable was released. If there were any changes, they were minor.
I have tried MIUI, and while it is nice, it isn't for me. While the scrolling between screens is always butter smooth, the menu system often lags, and since it is chinese developed, there are a few things which are in chineese (theme names pulled from the web), and some things don't work to well (like the lyrics and album art function of the music app). I would occasionally get freezes and FC's.
MIUI is a very nice polished ROM with a lot of nice bells ans whistles that make it look really stunning, but it just doesn't seem to always play nice with the android framework.
I too am bored of CM7, and am like everyone else waiting for a decent ICS build. I tried texasice and it works fantastic for the amount of time that has been put into it, but it's not quite up to daily driver status.
If you are interested in trying different ROM's to see which you should use mainly, I highly suggest Boot Manager. It lets you boot different ROM's from your sdcard, so your main ROM is untouched. It doesn't work with ICS yet, but it is an excellent app.
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.drx2.bootmanager&hl=en
It's suggested you use at least a class 6 sdcard, but I have had few problems with my class 4.

[Q] How many people who are going to try custom cm9 roms?

So title says it. How many of you will make some custom roms based off of cm9 once its in beta?
:Raises Hand:
I'm using the alpha now. Everything is working fine except the camera which doesn't work at all yet. Hashcode seems to be close to a camera solution.
I love this ROM. There are a couple bugs with the keyboard not working unless you hit the search button if you hit the capacitive search button with the keyboard out and the backlight and a couple fcs from the phone here and there but outside of the camera it runs beautifully. As soon as the /dev/ion is finished I will be happy.
Sent from my XT862 using XDA App
As soon as he gets it more stable will we really need custom ROMs outside of MIUI and the Gingerbread ones?
Sent from my XT862 using XDA App
As soon as camera is working, I'll use the CM9. Right now on Liberty, and thought it seems nice, I'm not really into it. Maybe because it's based on stock
Definitely going to CM9 once the camera is figured out
I'm OK with the stock ROM for the moment. I loved CM7 on my old Droid 1 and so I probably will go with CM9 at some point. But I need my phone for work so I'm a bit conservative in what I choose to do. I'll wait for the stable release (i.e. non-alpha, non-beta) version.
If you use Safestrap you can easily switch back and forth between CM9 and stock. This way you can be on the more stable stock rom when you need it for work but can also use CM9 when you don't need it for work. It only takes a couple of minutes to switch and that is because it needs to back up /data from whichever one you are on and restore /data for the one you are switching to.
For those who needs a BIDI+Multi-language + RTL , ICS it's seems the only option
Camera Is GOOD!!! ON CM9 FINALLY!
Sent from my Verizon Droid III CM9 ICS!!!
Now that we have camera, I'm switching CM9 to my safe system and I'll be using Safestrap to try out all the other fancy ROMs that will surely come from it.
YEP
Have been playing around with CM9 since like Alpha 4 and am soo stoked that we have a working cam.. lots of work have been put in by the devs.. cant wait for beta
the camera works for point an shoot only on rear cam no video or front cam yet

About to get this phone, 100% working JB rom?

I'm thinking about getting this ROM. It's kind of overwhelming considering there seem to be SOO many JB Roms. But are there any that work 100%? They don't outright say in the OPs what works/doesn't work.
100% of what? jb is still evolving, as there is now a second edition/version of jellybean.
my oinion: If you want a good reliable jb rom, then try cm10.0 stable. it is android 4.1.2 and totally good for day to day use.
If you want the later, jb 4.2.1, you can try cm10.1 monthly or nightly build. it is mostly stable.
Well, the AOSP one (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2013285) is considered the purest JB, but I don't think you'll get any dev to claim that his or her ROM is 100% working. It's intrinsic to the development of ROMs. Developer creates a ROM, tests it as best he can, posts it, users find issues, developer(s) fix issues, test again, post again etc. etc. It is really advisable to read around in the respective threads to see which issues have been found and delt with. I think that all current JB ROMs will cover basic functionality an average user would want, together with a zillion tweaks to stretch the hardware to the limit, be it good battery life, 3d gaming and other features devs and users come up with.
so I say: read around and try some of the different flavours, stick with the one that you prefer..
Works great.
