I think i might've bricked my phone.. It's a LG-P990. I literally bought it today with Cyangenmod and i went into the ROM whatever app and i clicked check to see if there are updates for the current ROM and it said i had to install something to be able to check. So it asked which phone i had and i selected the LGE Optimus 2x. At which point the phone downloaded it and then brought me to the home screen. My phone now is black but when i touch the screen the buttons light up. Holding the power button doesnt do anything.. please help me I think I just screwed myself over big time and i'm really upset and worried.
edit: pulled the battery out and i guess the stuff all loaded but it just shows the LG loading screen and when i tap the screen again the buttons light up. What do i do? i know i probably shouldn't haven even gone in that section at all it said some warning and i just hit ok cause i assumed that this is an optimus 2x which it is, is it not ? what happened? im so confused.. should i just update the phone with the LG support tool because it is picking it up, would that fix all of this ? i tried to boot it up and hold the power + the vol down button and got into the CWM but i dont know what to do here, should i just factory reset wipe everything and try to flash it all again, the seller told me he unlocked himself is that difficult to do?
also sorry if this in the wrong place!!
tl;dr I need a very smart android mentor to help a stupid noob (this is my first android) to help me get back to the square i just obliterated. I don't think the phone is bricked as i can access the CMW.
You could also try wiping everything via cwm,or download some custom rom cm7,miui DjangoManouche put the .zip on the external sd card and choose install from zip in cwm or sort of.The option is on the main page.

Don`t worry, this is LG, impossible to soft - brick .
I would recommend you at start to go to stock, till you do some reading and learn a little about custom roms.
So, as toxie87 already suggested (and you have the same idea ), the procedure will be something like this:
1. Download this rom
2. Put the zip on your sd card
3. Boot in cwm, do a factory reset, and then install rom from your sd card
3. You are up and running again
if you have bricked your phone then try the below method...NV flash method by homermod.....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1715272
else as previously replied by our members read the threads and learn about custom rom and try flashing your SPEED....
hit thanks if i have helped you....:highfive:

The seller has now told me it's a LG G2x, so i don't know if i should still try to put that ROM on the SD card guess i'll have to sift around a bit to find the one for the G2x unless you have that link handy too but i'm sure it won't be too hard. Yet it is nice to hear that it's not completely gone haha, jeez was i worried I lost sleep on it! Thank you

Ah, you then have T-Mobile LG G2x. It is similar, but not the same. Do not flash any file from o2x to your phone, you will do more damage then you have now!
Go to your device forum -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1114
Find there a rom that suits you and the procedure is the same .

Glad that you have manage to solve it. Don`t hesitate to experiment on phone (after some reading, there is nothing to brake), just make a cwm backup before, and use files from your g2x forum .

Sorry for such a Noob question.
I would like to download the basic stock rom for the N1.
My wifes N1 is not working correctly & she only uses basic features on the phone so i would like to flash it with the original stock rom.
Also at the moment we cannot turn the mobile internet off either.
PLEASE HELPPPPPPP
Bart
Here is the latest stock release in all it's options:
http://android.modaco.com/content/g...build-info-and-repacks-stock-rooted-deodexed/
The bottom most link sounds like the one you're looking for.
thank you so much for that
is flashing the rom on this the same as it would be for a Hero using HTC Sync on your computer?
if not please point me to a guide
my assumption from what i can see is that with this i dont need to root the phone or anything like that, is that right?
Hi sorry guys I still really need some help here.
I have managed to download the ROM as suggested but Im so confused from reading the different tutorials on how to actually flash the phone to revert it back to the stock rom.
I have seen the below tut would you advise using this?
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=614850
however i do not know what these terms mean
adb reboot bootloader
Confirm fastboot connection fastboot devices
fastboot erase userdata
fastboot erase cache
is fastboot where you hold the trackball down & then turn the device on giving you the sub menu?
sorry for the noob questions but i really need to get this phone sorted
Many thanks
Bart
There's a much simpler way to return to stock.
Download FRF91 from http://developer.htc.com
Rename to passimg.zip and copy to the root of the SD card.
Hold Vol- and power on the phone, it will find the file and ask if you wish to install. Job done.
Rusty
Thank you so much, you may save me from a divorce & a headache.
The internet truly makes the world a smaller place.
Thank you again so much sir
hi followed followed the steps & the phone doenst find the passimg.zip file when it reboots
i renamed the original zipped file to passimg.zip & put it on the sc card
also tried to extract the original file that i downloaded into another folder, renamed that to passimg.zip & put on the root of sd card.
neither method seemed to work as when i rebooted the phone with Vol - key held it didnt recognise or find the file
i just get the fastboot menu
Please help
Check it's not called passimg.zip.zip
Quite common
thanks mate i checked that
i ensured that i could see the extension before i renamed the file
so the file is def renamed passimg.zip
please confirm that i needed to just rename the downloaded zip file & not extract the file & then zip it
what else can i check please
thanks Rusty

What ROM is on her phone currently? Is it rooted? Is the bootloader unlocked? These are all important questions =)
phone is running 2.2.1 at the mo
phone is not rooted or anything unlocked, she has only received the over the air updates to the phone but done nothing else.
I think that the issues she's been having have occurded since the last update.
when she first had the phone it worked a treat
thanks for your help guys
Well in that case she *is* on a basic stock ROM. What problems are happening on her phone?
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
the keyboard often would just stop responding
the internet would work and then not work
overall the phone would be working a lot slower than when she originally got it which is why I want to revert it to the stock Rom
Just factory reset it
ok I tried to do a factory reset but that's just wipes all the data right and doesn't actually reset the software version
I have done this by using the option within the phone menu and then also done this by using the clear storage option from the fastboot menu and again it only clears the phone's data and not reset the Rom to original
Again, you already have a stock ROM! It's the newest version but it's definitely stock unless you made any egregious mistakes during the upgrade or made any modifications yourself. You've said it was never rooted, hence I must conclude that it's as stock as it's going to get.

As the bloke above me says, its already as original as it's going to get!
ok guys sorry about this, its probably down to my mis communication, I want to reset the phone to firmware version 2.1 which is what it came with as it was working fine then. I thought this is what was meant by returning to original stock Rom.
apologies for the mis com
how do I reset it to original firmware 2.1
Even if you did, it will bug you to update all the time.
You need a passimg file, the original one for the N1 (ERD79) can be found on shipped-roms.com
Rename it to passimg.zip, put it on the root of the SD card and power on the phone holding Vol- it will find the file and ask if you want to update.
After waiting for the official AT&T froyo release with the captivate, I decided to just go ahead and flash a froyo ROM. I've decided to flash the axura ROM first since i heard good things about it.
So while I'm finishing charging my phone before the flashing, is there anything I need to keep note of before flashing so that I can prevent bricking my phone? I've read up on the forums and watched the video from connexion2005 from the post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=867153.
Its pretty scary since I'm not much of a tech savy guy and this is my first android phone. Any help and suggestions will be appreciated.

Backup all your apps and data with Titanium Backup. Make sure your battery is fully charged, and removing your sim and SD cards are good practice.
Have fun! You won't go back.
- Backup all your files and make a nandroid backup!
- Get Odin3 One-Click and drivers to get your phone back to stock in case you brick it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=731989
- There may be additional precautions you can take, so read through related threads on xda.

If you've read as much as you claim to have read, then you're probably in good shape. It's really not an unsafe process as long as you have some idea of what you're doing. I was very nervous about it myself the first time, but since then I've probably flashed 20 roms without a problem.
A couple of things that I would tell you, if you aren't already aware:
1. MAKE SURE that BEFORE you flash, you can get into download mode from the phone being off using one of the methods. I'm sure you've seen the one-click flash back to JF6 (stock) that was posted - download that if you haven't. For me, removing the battery, sim, and ext sd, replacing the battery, and holding down both volume buttons while plugging in the USB works really well - just make sure Odin is running before you do that. If you do manage to brick it, you will want to be able to get to download mode and flash back to stock.
2. After moving to a custom rom, it is best to always flash back to stock before flashing a different rom; you can avoid a lot of potential problems this way.
3. After rooting your phone, backup the update.zip in /sdcard/ on your computer. Any time you flash back to stock, you can reinstall CWM really easily by just putting that update.zip back in /sdcard/ and choosing "reinstall packages" from the recovery menu again. Sometimes you may have to do it twice before it enters CWM.
4. OCLF in the market is, to me, the easiest and quickest way to root your phone, but the one click root method isn't much worse. Just a matter of preference, I guess.
Good luck! Come back if you have any problems.
EDIT: apparently two people replied while I was typing my response lol! But what they said is very good as well.
Thank you for all your help. One quick question though, do I need the android ID changer?
the biggest mistake people make is not making sure they have the button combinations to enter recovery or download. (download = hold both volume buttons own and plugging usb cable in; recovery = hold volume buttons down, then holding power until AT&T screen pops up, letting go of power but still holding both volume buttons) if either of these don't work, you must, before doing ANYTHING else, flash the stock odin one click with the button fixes; it is posted somewhere in the development forum. and no you shouldn't need the android id changer unless you want to keep the android id that your phone came with. then open the changer and click save id and flash your rom of choice. most custom roms have a script to automatically load a saved id or randomly generate one if there wasn't a saved one. good luck in all your flashing endeavors!
edit: also as bodaciousdrake mentioned previously about cwm recovery, you should always keep the update.zip that contains cwm recovery on your sd card and you'll never need to change that to something else because using cwm recovery you can flash any .zip file that you want and it does not need to be named update.zip.
Take out the external SD card before you accidently delete 10 GB of music you had just perfected the selection of. (not that I accidently did that... lol)

Yes, you need it. Download it from the market, while on 2.1, and save your id onto your sd card. After you are on 2.2, choose Load id and it will automatically reboot.

What exactly is the point in saving the phone id? Sorry I'm kinda a noobie at this and looking up things about phone id, it seems like it just is an identifier for the phone but doesn't really provide anything.
Also, how do I get out of download mode? I've put it in download mode to make sure it works and it seem I can't get out of it... I've done the 2 volume bottons with the usb cord.
there's another thread in this forum that answers that question perfectly. also to exit download mode you need to pull the battery out.

Basically, a lot of 2.2 Roms come with the same android id, 977blah... If you don't want market issues later I would suggest that you put in your original 2.1 android id. You can always search more if that answer isn't sufficient. And yes, do a battery pull to get out of download mode.
I've master cleared but can't seem to root. Every time I try with the one click root, and I go to recovery, it said it can't find the update.zip from the /sdcard/
yep, just pull the battery. also you don't need to root to flash roms. just grab the update.zip containing clockwordmod recovery from the thread in the development forum, put it on your sd card, boot to recovery and select reinstall pacakges. after that, reboot the phone (you might have to reinstall packages again) then you'll be ib clockwordmod recovery and you'll be able to flash any rom you want without having to change the filename.

For some reason I got this too the first few times I tried to root. I then noticed that in the cmd prompt, for a split second it said failed to push update.zip or something due to privileges.
How I fixed it was ran the one-click root on windows in admin mode. It worked after that.
Thanks guys for all your help. I got it to flash the ROM and it seems I haven't bricked my phone
Thanks again
Hi there, sorry about the dramatic title, not sure what kind of help this need,s other than the general kind. It's my first post here and I'm asking for help already. I know you must hate it when people do this (I do on other forums haha) but I kinda need your help.
Basically, I bought a motorola milestone of gumtree (kinda like a UK craigslist) which was rooted with CM7. Everything worked fine when I got it, but today, when I tried to download stuff from the market, it gave me a force close message. The stock music player also needed to be force closed. I googled it, and did the usual restart the phone, take out battery etc... which didnt work. On the motorola website they say to do a factory data reset, which didn't appear to work. I then tried doing a manual reset, through the recovery screen I think, I pressed the factory reset button, but now my phone hangs on the motorola logo. I'm quite technical when it comes to most things, but i'm new when it comes to rooting. I presume doing that also wipes the ROM? I think/hope that all I need to do is put a rom on the SD and do the update from that, but I'm really not sure.
Thanks for any help
p.s while the phone is GSM and works with my SIM, the guy I bought it off got it from Korea, don't know if that makes a difference to anything
install OR (fufu or nadalback's , there is a link in cm7 thread), go into dev forum.
wipe everything from or and reboot. if that doesn't work try flash another rom. and yes you will lose data, you already did with the factory reset.
if you have cm7 you already have the device rooted.
edit: follow advice from moto, only if you have stock rom, and now you don't

Cheers for that, had a quick skim through and it looks promising, only thing is I'm not sure what one I need to do to get it to boot. Do I have to install openrecovery? Do i need to revert it back to stock? Do I need to install a custom rom or is a combination of the 3? I'm sorry if these are basic questions, but I literally have no idea which one to select.
Also, if the phone was bought in korea, but is set to english, what SBF file do I download, a UK one, or a international one?
Cheers

Right now, is your phone running CM7? If so, place the newest OpenRecovery on your SD Card and place the ROM you want in OR/updates. Because you are from the UK, you should try flashing a UK sbf if you need to revert to stock.

Hi guys!
I'm a newbie here at XDA. Long time ago, I have formatted my Optimus 2X from GB to ICS using smart flash tool. I have done that successfully. After few months, I felt like my phone is slow to respond. Then I decided to repartition and install fresh ICS copy again. I was not 100% sure what I was doing at that time. I have used AIO tool for this. Selected option no. 4 and have selected CWM v6.0.2.5 as recovery.
Then I tried to install the new ROM using smart flash and I did not succeed. After I have messed up with this problem, I contacted "spyrosk" (the OP of AIO tool thread) and he told me to install stock ROM on this thread. Then I have downloaded the V30A ROM and copied out to the phone memory, and installed using cwm by selecting install zip from sdcard option. I have succeeded.
But now I want get my phone back to the situation where I installed ICS in first time (GB to ICS using smartflash). Because my camera isn't working, OS freezes pretty much, etc. So I tried several times using Smart flash (in AIO tool) tool as I did as same as when I update from GB to ICS. But, I'm getting an error. Time out reached, after few minutes.
Should I remove CWM before install the fresh stock ICS rom using smart flash? Please guide me through this as I am a newbie for these kind of things. All I want to do is, bring back my phone to the same situation where I upgrade from GB to ICS, as I told you at the beginning of this thread.
Please don't ignore this thread by thinking I am an epic noob at this. Guide me and I'll do exactly as you guys say. Thanks a lot for reading. A reply would be greatly appreciated.
Anyone? Please.
BUMP. Can someone please give me an advice? I'm kinda disappointed right now.

There is nothing to worry about, just keep trying using smartflash. After each try remove the cable then connect it back, if it still not works restart teh phone to S/W screen. If it still not works try it on an other usb port, and do everithing from the begining. If it still fails use another cable or try it on an other computer.
It usually start work for the 6th or the 7th time of trying.
No need to remove cwm or anything like that.

Thank you very much for replying this thread BitDomo. I will try some more times then. Apart from that, I have seen a way to uninstall CWM by installing some files to the device. But I did not try that since that method is for CWM v3.x.x.
I'm kinda noob at savvy android thingies for now. I will learn some more about these thingies from the start of next month. Until then, I just want to bring my phone to official ICS 4.0.3 stock ROM and use the phone as I did earlier.
Thanks again for your kind reply to this thread bro. Really appreciate. I'll try some more times and will post the results. Dear android experts, any other solutions for this? Please make a post if you have a suggestion. Peace.. :highfive:

Guys I have tried over 10 times to flash to ICS 4.0.4 using Smartflash. But everytime I end up with same error. Then I tried Nvflash. But my device showed me a black screen after the process completed. Everything working correctly but I couldn't see anything on my LCD, its just a black screen with the light. So, I used full brick repair for P990 here at xda.
Now I have CWM v6.0.2.5 as recovery and CyanogenMod 10-20131105-UNOFFICIAL-p990 in my phone. Can someone please explain me how to bring this phone back to official ICS 4.0.4? I tried smartflash right now and device shows a black LCD screen. Smartflash picks up the device but process stops in few seconds. I have searched for revert back to stock ICS from CM, but I did not get a descriptive enough information for this. Please write atleast a brief reply if you know the procedure. Thank you very much. :good:

Okay im not quite sure whats happening here my friend has given me his phone which he bought with this mod as a back up phone.
It is currently loading up to the android bit after the logo then restarting or rebooting and constantly does this while on the android screen you have to power the phone off quickly before the restart. In any case i tried to get the stock rom and installed it... after the update it still does this.
What i have done is gone into the TWRP menu and installed this rom

Even though the user as done a great job creating an RUU its still not official.
I would try and use this one instead and see how it goes.
Just go to TWRP and create a backup
Replace the backup with this one
in TWRP restore phone.
Remove USB and reboot.
lets us know! G.Luck
