[Q] i9000, no wifi and BT mac address, phone crashes - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello
Fair warning to any of you helpful and insightul people on these forums; english is not my native language.
This is my story:
I've been casually reading these forums for a while, reading about the custom ROMs available for my i9000. For no better reason than the urge for a change, I decided to get ICS for my phone, this one
My phone was not rooted before this, so I had to take all the steps in order to upgrade from (if I recall correctly) 2.2.3
The rooting went well, and so did the upgrade to CM9. However when I tried to install the Google Apps package, the phone softbricked. It kept rebooting over and over again, and after an hour or so I gave up. Nothing happened when I pressed the power button, so I just removed the battery. Realizing I had "destroyed" my phone, I searched these forums trying to find a way to recover.
A while after I was able to find a stock firmware. Using Odin I was able to make my phone up and running again.
However, here the current issues started.
1) Activating WiFi makes the phone crash. It reboots and I am unable to turn it off again. Tried 2 times, had to re-flash to the same semi-working solution again. So at the moment I am unable to use this.
2) The alarm clock is very unreliable. The alarm simply won't go off.
3) Under About Phone -> Status it says
Wi-Fi MAC address: unavailable
Bluetooth address: unavailable
I am currently running these versions:
Firmware: 2.3.3
Baseband version: I9000XXJVO
Kernel version: 2.6.35.7-i9000XWJVH-CL184813 [email protected] #2
Build number: GINGERBREAD.XWJVH
I would appreciate any help in order to solve my problems. Basically my needs are to make the phone the way it was before I started playing around with it. I have learned my lession, this is not my field of expertise.
I am norwegian so I need a version compatible with the language (for the keyboard, I use english for the phone).
Thanks for reading, I really appreciate it. If there's any information I have forgotten to enter, just say so and I'll try my best to figure it out.

try to use its own internal testing to verify the fault, use this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=28482516#post28482516

Hello, and thanks for your answer.
Unfortunately this is doesn't work for me. I don't get the "activities" option when I press the screen. I can only chose between Widgets, Shortcuts, Folders and Wallpapers.

you need to use a a ICS type launcher, either Holo, launcher pro etc...just install one from google play, so that you can check out the problem.

my phone is not supporting any bluetooth

i have firm ware version 1.5 and every bluetooth i try on my phone doesnt work can someone help me
I got the same problem after rooting device. I use image RC29 and JACKHeroski ROM. But the bluetooth function is used by me rarely.
i really need my bluetooth im almost always in my car ... i need help
and i cant use my bluetooth!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
bluetoo has not work on jack yet
you guys need to know that , blutoo just has not work on jackhero.
bluetoo work on cyanengen, jf1.5.
first of all,
you need to explain more than your running 1.5
is your phone rooted.
have you tried rebooting your phone / wipe your phone
are you using any custom roms etc.
yes i did all of that rebooted anf=d everything but my bluetooth does not work
an my phone is rooted
excuse me sir.
ok, a suggestion. goto quicklinks and edit your sig. let us know what rom, radio and spl you are running. second, do you have adb? no? get adb installed so you can run logcat and we can get an idea what exactly is going on with your device. third: what is the history of your phone? what process did you follow to get where you are now? when is the last time you wiped? etc. etc. etc.
if you have questions about the aforementioned items, search. apply google-fu accordingly.
We can't help if we don't have something tangible to work with. internets are not magic, simply shouting "my stuff is b0rked" will not automagically repair your problem. harry potter is an iphone user. you are not harry potter, and that phone in your hand is no iphone.
i'd love to help you but simply cannot until you give me something firmer to work with.
Define doesn't work. Does it not connect? Does it seem to connect then you lose all audio? Does it stab you in the face? What does it do, exactly. Have you updated your radio?
This is a "my car doesn't work, how do I fix it?" kinda thread..
We need info in order to help you!
Did it work before?
what have you done in order to break it?
What are the errors?
What version af ROM are you running?
What radio version are you running?
etc etc etc..
BTW bumping the thread doesn't help either, it just will make a nice padlock appear on the thread, just like by magic..
And I moved the thread from DEVELOPMENT (!) to Q&A..
Try using a different ROM as suggested. The _Hero_ Roms don't support BT yet. If you need it you'll have to switch to JF, Cyanogen or Haykuro's etc. ROMs.
Just like everyone else said. And one more sugestion have you updated your radio.
how mean. thanks
look every one is being so mean. n e ways when i say it doesnt work i mean that it says its connected to bluetooth but u cant hear anything when u send or receive a call and for sure i know its not the bluetoth because i have 5 different ones and none work. i dont know if it have ever worked because i just started using the bluetooth . and well ill try finding our the rest of the info because i dont do the updates my self only sometimes and i dont know all them numbers u guys are asking for what i know are the numbers i put in the other messages. but its ok thanks to those who helped...
ok... seems like we got some info here.
It seems that someone else has been modding your phone for you. Installing custom ROMS is nothing to be taken lightly, you should really research things a bit to get a better understanding of how your phone actually works.
I wasn't trying to be mean, please understand that you posted a help request in a forum designated for development of new applications and customization of the system images that make up the operating system you see when your phone boots up. Posts like these have become a growing problem lately and many users here are getting frustrated, myself included.
First of all, goto settings, about phone.
Write down the following information:
Model Number
Firmware version
Baseband version
Kernel Version
Mod Version (if its there)
Build Number (if its there)
Post that info in a thread in Q&A, where this thread belonged to begin with and maybe we can actually get somewhere.
Model Number:x201
Android version : 4.2.2
Baseband version: moly.wr8.w1315.md.wg.mp v4.P1, 2013/11/09 14:19
Kernel version: 3.4.5 [email protected] #11
Custom build version: ensec 20140318
my bluetooth wont connect with my iphone 5? it says "connection unsuccessful, Truesmart is not supported
any suggestions??
thanks

eViL-NXSense-v.1.13.1

Hey guys. I tried asking these questions on the official thread of this Rom but somehow my post is getting lost in the tons of pages which are accumulating everyday So here are my questions :
y2jamit said:
Alright folks. I finally managed to move from CM6 stable to NXSense. Before moving from CM 6, I partitioned my SD card using Rom manager with a partition of 512 MB & a swap of 32 MB.I managed to install version eViL-NXSense-v.1.13.1. However after that eViL-Q&D-NXSense-v.1.14.1 was released. So I downloaded that first from the 4shared link. I tried to install the new ROM from Rom Manager using the wipe option. However when the phone goes into recovery it shows formatting blah blah blah and then phone doesn't install the 1.14.1 Rom and reboots and gets stuck on the Google cross logo.
I managed to restore back to 1.13.1 from the back up that I had made. Now instead of using the Rom Manager I booted into recovery and tried to use the install from SD card option. This time the phone started copying files and showed that twice. After this I get the following huge error:
E: Can't symlink /system /customize/resource/bootanimation.zip
E: Failure at line 27:
symlink/data/local/bootanimation.zip
SYSTEM : customize/resource/bootanimation.zip
Installation aborted.
I had to once again resort back to my backup. Can anyone help me out this issue?
After all this I even tried to install 1.13.1 from the recovery using the install from sd card option and apparently this also gave me the exact same bootanimation error. So I guess both the zips are ok. not sure what else could be going wrong.
Also even after flashing networkfix on 1.13.1, the market still struggles to work. It shows loading for some time and then gives an option to retry. However if I try to search for any application or go to downloads, the market starts working normally. Can anyone also provide a fix for this problem?
I really want to use this as my default rom because I am in love with it Excellent work Evil !!! Just want to sort out these issues.

In addition to the above mentioned post, I wanted to add that I now also have a2sd enabled after running the commands from terminal emulator. What is the simplest way to update from 1.13.1 to a higher version? Also when loading market for the first time, the GPRS connection disappears and comes back in like a minute. Why is this happening? When using Trackball Alert Pro the patch option says compatible rom not found but the alerts are working fine When using wi-fi hotspot and default options, it is not getting turned on although 3G shows in the top left corner. Do I have manually change any settings.
I would be highly grateful if anyone can resolve all or any of my queries. I am absolutely exhausted in asking these queries in the official thread and reading through tons of pages just to see my query being buried.
Thanks in advance guys.
Alright guys I managed to install 1.14.1 successfully by doing a full wipe first using instructions from this fabulous thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=747381 Although this thread is for myTouch 3G Slide, the basic instructions are the same for Nexus One. You just have to use the trackball to select an option. This is exactly what I was looking for I am sure many newbies like me who don't know what a full wipe is, will learn a lot from this magnificent thread. Thank you kingofyo1
Now I still don't understand why the patch option in Trackball Alert Pro shows the rom is not compatible even though basic version is officially provided with the rom. Anyway the alerts work, so I am not going to waste any more time on it.
Even in eViL-Q&D-NXSense-v.1.14.1, when I first open market, my GPRS connection disappears and comes back in like 20-30 seconds. After that market works really well. Anyone has a solution for this?
Also Wi-Fi hotspot still doesn't turn on using default settings. Do I have to manually choose any settings?
Can anyone shed some light on the above mentioned questions?

[Q] upgrading to Gingerbread

Hello,
I am a newcomer to the Forum and I would be grateful if I could benefit from the experience and the knowledge of the experts.
I have an unlocked HTC G1 phone. I use the ATT network.
I would like to install Gingerbread.
Could somebody give me the direction where I would find a step by step guide to replace my actual Donut version with Gingerbread.
Here are the specs of the phone:
Model number Android Dev Phone 1
Firmware version 1.6
Baseband version 62.50S.20.17H_2.22.19.261
Kernel version 2.6.29-00479-g3c7df37
[email protected]#19
Build number DRC83
well if its a dev phone it should already be rooted so ignore those steps, check and see your radio/spl (power on holding camera button)
your answer here will determine the next step
chances are you need to follow this link _ http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=831139
once this is complete follow the steps here _ http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=882356
if you need more help let me know!
Thank you very much for your reply.
Unfortunately my knowledge in this field is infinitesimal small.
That is why I am looking for a step by step guide.
Maybe I put myself in the wrong forum for my level and my needs. My apologies.
The only thing I know is that my phone does not need to be rooted.
Thank you again for your advice and your time.
Happy New Year to all of us
if your not finding what you are looking for ill see what i can do
first off i need to know your radio/spl - this will help me determine what you need to do next
just type in everything off the screen that will be rainbow colored or have three androids on skateboards
to check the screen, power off your phone, then hold down the power (red button) and the camera button at the same time. tell me what it says...
after you write all of that down press the green, red and menu buttons all at once and the phone will reboot normally.
gunner1937: There is a link I found in another thread for an older version of ROM Manager which will work on Android 1.6. Since you're rooted with a Google ADP phone this might be all you need. But I would go in the menu and do a factory reset.
I upgraded my T-Mobile G1 from stock Android 1.6 to CyanogenMod 6.1 (Android 2.2.1) three days ago following the instructions on http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/HTC_Dream:_Rooting
I will stick with it for now. It came bundled with the ROM Manager app.
In the past week I've researched upgrading to Gingerbread and just recently there may be a bug uncovered where the phone no longer goes into Deep Sleep mode. This means the battery usage is not ideal compared to other earlier ROMs. It turns out virtually all Gingerbread Dream ROMs use some code by ezTerry, so they may all have this issue. So.. I think I will hold off on going to a flavor of Gingerbread until I get more info on this possible bug.
In your case I believe I'd do the factory reset, then load this ROM Manager onto it. You'd need to copy the ROM Manager.apk file to your phone's SD card. I would backup the contents of your SD card onto your PC just so you have any files/songs you want, and then format it with FAT32. You can format the SD card from a Settings menu on the phone if you like. I think there's another setting in the menu to allow installing a program from unknown sources. Find that and check it in order to be able to manually install an app like this. Or I dunno, that may not be in the ADP phone. Next you'd need to get on the Android market and get a file manager to be able to dig into the SD card's file directory and install the APK file. I used a text editor called TxtPad Lite which included a usable file manager. Another one is called Astro File Manager. With something like that you can browse the file system to be able to look at the files on your SD card and install ROM Manager. You'd just find the APK file and tap on it.
So then you're reset, got the ROM Manager app that will work on Android 1.6, then you can use it. You want to let it install the ClockworkMod Recovery first thing. It's required and what the app uses to manage installing your ROMs. I myself have never actually used ROM Manager to install a ROM (I did use it to install the ClockworkMod Recovery). I've gone in and out of the app. It asked me to update it, so I did. And I decided to stick with CyanogenMod 6.1 for now. It looks like it's gone through a ton of vetting to get it really honed.
I kind of wanted a more full introduction to flashing the ROMs and stuff and the CyanogenMod guide was great for me. This looks like a relatively painless and less complicated way to safely upgrade and switch out ROMs for you, and I might've done it more or less this way if I'd discovered it first.
Thank you.

Personally I would recommend you install froyobylaszlo
But anyways, first of all before you start installing the 2708+ kernel, you're gonna need fastboot and adb on your computer
What OS do you have on your computer?
one laptop is Vista and the other is Win7

If you are not testing it this is a bad conclusion:
*) Deep sleep may or may not be working.. this has mixed results but the device is mostly sleeping.. so yes if completely idle (ie no cell network no wifi, screen off, no services running..) you might go from 4days uptime that the system currently gets even with an sdcard to 5 days if the problem if it exists is solved
problem is deep sleep is when the ARM11 CPU is turned completely off (it is going into low speeds correctly, and disabling other hardware into low power modes) This means when you are using the phone this state will not be entered (and thus the phone uses the same power as it is now) when a service is actively running.
Thus most peoples battery enhancements in GB are from the new APIs to allow applications to stay in the background more in Gingerbread; and a much larger problem is many applications these days are running more services than the G1 can support thus the system is constantly swapping in and out applications from memory.
Thus those whose battery on gingerbread roms is draining fast will more likely benefit from checking what is running in the backgound than waiting on a deep sleep fix if its even a problem.. since the services will still run after any fix and the battery life won't improve.
What the op needs is the 2708+ radio/SPL (that others are helping with) than nandroid in recovery can be used to switch between roms; since it provides more ram to CM5/CM6 and gingerbread roms all work with the 2708+ combination then the op can pick what works best for them in a more overall evaluation... and not just what lasts the longest when not used as a phone.
To OP:
the best way to continue is to:
1) Install fastboot (and the sdk) on your computer. you will need to search for this since the since I don't know the details for windows
2) If you already have a custom recovery (clockwork or ra-recovery) continue; otherwise you will need to install one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4647751&postcount=1
3) then since you have HBOOT: 0.95.0000 install 1.33.2003 from: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6510019&postcount=76 this will allow fastboot and let you continue with:
4) Then the installation section at: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=831139 (The files section will have the various files required and older roms that have been ported to work on the new SPL/Radio.. newer roms mostly will work per instructions on the rom's thread) .. read the entire post before doing anything.. as this is a major change to the phone, and the actions to fix something if you run into a problem may be slightly different than they were with more stock roms..
Try to get a feeling for what is needed before you begin .. we know its a bit of an involved process.. but most users have auctioned this in smaller steps originally.
(Note the cmwiki will probably be the best way to install recovery)
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=910008
Download the drivers only pack
I think it includes fastboot
I can't check, if not tell me and ill upload my files as soon as I can get to a computer
search in google (or probably even xda) for "easy fastboot" if your having issues using fastboot, its exactly that an easy way to use fastboot for noobs.
also you can flash your new radio/spl as well as your rom via recovery, it isnt recommended but it can be easier if you have issues. ill tell you i have done it this way many times and have yet to brick a phone but as always my experience dosent me you will have the same. so try to follow the suggested route of fastboot is best.
upgrading to Gingerbread
I should have taken a longer rest.
I am starting the New Year with the feeling that everybody gets the right to flame me: my G1 does not work after a very bad step.
I installed on the re-formatted SD card 2 files namely DREAIMG.nbh and cupcake.
In short, I got the message "E: cannot open /sd card /update.zip (no such a file or directory). Installation aborted".
The next step was to sign my google account. It failed.
At this stage I cannot format, read, transfer, and use the SD card because it is not recognized by the computer. And of course the phone is not working.
Right now the G1 shows in the colored bars:
DREA100 PVT 32B
HBOOT- 0.95.0000
CPLD-4
RADIO- 1.22.12.29 (before doing anything to the phone the radio was 2.22.19.26I)
This phone was unlocked and set on the AT&T network.
Thanks to my wife Nexus One I can use, format, transfer files (which I did, to no avail) by inserting my SD card in her phone.
The least to say is that I really need the help, knowledge, and assistance of the Forum members.
What you don't want to hear is we see no error in what you have described. > well apart from the nbh file used it may be the original way to root but its not the easiest.
The message you are seeing in recovery is not am indication of a problem.
Ok, 0.95.0000 has no fastboot and thus you really need a custom recovery, to do that you. Need to flash it from the rom after rooting it, this means you need to try and boot the phone normally and log into Google normally.. if this fails try the following:
A.) go into recovery (home+power) and press alt+L then the combo to wipe the phone
B.) If its still not working try re-flashing the nbh
Oncce logged into google the telnet trick can work..
C.) While it needs a bit more setup, this third option is easier to install the 3rd party roms without a Google login and manual flash of recovery from system: make a goldcard ( you can do this on the n1) then put the orange nbh from the 2708+ thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=831139 this can be renamed DREAIMG.nbh and then be flashed with the gold card you made. (There are many guides on making the goldcard for HTC phones) Once flashed you will have a fastboot enabled spl that will let you flash anything by fastboot.
Thank you for helping me to breathe a little bit deeper, better, and slower.
So far I am in the same situation.
Dropping by BestBuy I found an SD micro with an adapter. It makes life easier for everybody.
I did again what I started, trying 2 different downloads of the .nbh file. Still locked at signing my google account.
Following your advice I will try to create a goldcard and follow the procedure you mention this evening.
Wait...locked at signing in to google account?
What do you mean? It shows google sign in but you can't sign in?
Do you not have a data plan?
If so, just google "activate g1 wifi"

I am still trying to create a goldcard with the nexus 1. I cannot install a driver for it, I cannot install a driver from HTC sync, I get a message that "the device is not connected" but I can see the microSD on the computer.
This is where I am. And I do not know anymore what I have to do next since I feel I am in front of a wall.

I did not express myself correctly.
When one reaches the sequence to sign into a Google account one has to enter email address then password.
I did that and few minutes later I got the message it could not reach the google servers.
Also, I have -rather had - a wi-fi connection since I got the G1 in December 2008.

[Q] Help Please :)

Im EXTREMELY technologically challenged.
I used to use a Nokia e75 before getting the Galaxy Note (around 6 months ago)
I got it from the 'grey market' in the U.A.E (and it had rupees label on it).
I have a few problems that i need help with please.
1. Since i bought it from the 'grey market' (not an authorized dealer) it doesn't upgrade. Im still on Android 2.3.5. When i do a check for 'updates'… no update available is the message i get. Is that right? Can i do something about it?
2. Nokia used to have a 'suite' software that would automatically backup EVERYTHING on the phone, into a 'file' or folder. I have a macbook pro, is there something like that … that i could back up all the contents on my phone? (i tried Kies but it's limited and complicated for my pea brain!)
3. Just today, my speaker stopped working for audio files and messages. My ringer is audible but nothing compared to what it used to be. What do i do? There's no sound with games, messages and so on. The phone vibrates (and all sounds are audible via headphones).
4. Sometimes the keyboard crashes and then i have to restart the application that i was working with (namely whatsapp and messaging). Is there anything i can do to fix that?
That's all for now. I would REALLY appreciate any/all help that i can get, and PLEASE be as detailed as you can … as you would with an eight year old!
Thanks a bunch.
Sam.
p.s : if you're wondering what i am doing with these gadgets when i am so illiterate … perhaps a mid life crisis?
Lol dont worry your as old as you feel. Gray market whats that? Senior mart, or s-mart? Sorry couldnt help it.
Check your csc by getting imei, dial in dialer *#06#
Write that down and keep private.
Then dial *#272*imei#* you put the number you just wrote where it says imei.
Then check which csc is selected. This determines if you are upgradeable. The country that corresponds with this is, or should be what most people are talking about when an update is available
Now if its not available, check i.e sammobile.com firmware section.
Next to thisvif you really really want update just go to developers section here in forum and follow dr ketans thread. His tutorial is awesome!
Anyways dont ever wipe or factory reset on any ICS when you get there!
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2
1. You can flash any rom via Odin, even newest 4.0.3 ICS - but you have to do it manually via PC. OTA update depends on region, your Note might come from one that has not received the update yet. If you need help with that send me a PM.
2. There is only Kies dedicated to Samsung devices. There are some 3rd party apps dedicated for Android in general, but they don't work very well. So i'd say - unfortunately - no.
3. That's common software bug. Enter recovery ( Volume up + home + power ) and select "Clear Cache". This has helped me fix that at least twice.
4. You can try installing ICS keyboard from the market, or any replacement keyboards like Swift etc. they usually work better than stock Samsung GB one.
Guys, i tried 'thanking your post' but it didn't work for some reason.
Baz77 - That was quite funny actually!
I tried doing that and before i could put in the final '*' a screen came up with a 'sales code'… which said 'INU'. Also it had what appeared to be initials of different countries below that i could select (UAE wasn't one of them!). It also had an 'install' and 'cancel' icons at the bottom. When i hit 'install' … nothing happened :s (help?)
Also you said if you really really want to… (i shouldn't upgrade? any problems with that? should i back up data or something before doing it? am i being paranoid with your usage of TWO really's?

Anyway dont change csc, installing another one will initiate a full wipe.

Id recommend not to, due to battery issues and braking risk on ICS. But you can if you want to. Best case is to choose a csc rom that corresponds with the current csc. That way OTA and kies will be possible. Did you try Kies? You can get it from samsung.com it sucks but could help, cause not everyone gets ota, for weird reason.

[Q] HELP - Mac adress keep changing after every reboot

Hello everyone.
First of all I want to say sorry if this is the wrong place to ask, but I really dont know where else to do it. Most topics doesnt allow me to post yet
I am new in this all about Android smartphones, root and custom kernels.
I just did a root to my phone today, it worked fine. Then I installed this kernel:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1818830
Which also works perfect. But now I have a big problem and is that the phone keep changing of mac adress. I do use my router with mac adress filter so now everytime I restart the phone I have a new mac adress. I googled about this A LOT trust me, and I found this threat:
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/5650-wip-guide-nvs-map-creation-aka-how-i-fixed-my-wifimac-issues/
But that doesnt work, I cant even type the first command "wlan_cu" because everytime I try i get this error "wlan_cu: not found"
I am completely lost now and I only can hope for someone to lend me a hand.
Thanks in advanced to everyone
Seems like no one is interested to give a solution. I have the same problem but no solution!

The solution is to not use the default ROM. You can download different ROM's versions that will work with this phone using the custom kernel. And I dont meant custom ROMs, just official ROMs but different version.
Anyway, I recommend you to use "Simplicity" ROM. Is a custom ROM that is 100 times better than the default one. It doesnt contain so many crappy APPs by default so you can choose wich ones you want. Have the look of ICS, better icons and such. Give it a try.
