So originally I was on Dark Raider 1.5.5 when I noticed that my kernel was still stock so I tried flashing kozmikkernel rc2 and after an error I realized I wasn't S-off. I then began having wi fi and portable hot spot issues (they would stay stuck on turning on and eventually go to error) and I decided to go to the rooted stock AT&T rom. Well now every time I try installing Titanium Backup it says "Insufficient storage" but I can install every other application just fine. Anyone else run into this issue?

to install a different kernel for s-off you have to get the boot.img file from the kernel and open up a command window and type "fastboot flash kernel boot.img"
make sure your phone is in fastboot usb mode
Yeah I'm not concerned about the kernel anymore cuz I'll only flash it if I decide to S-Off. I'm just wondering if anyone had run into the issue where Titanium Backup isn't installing because of supposed "Insufficient storage"

So I decided to root my phone, following everything here (I am completely noob at this):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=694572
I did screw up on step 10 where instead of doing a "Flash zip from sdcard" I did a reboot and it booted into the original system. So I went through the process again from step one and did everything right this time.
I don't know if that broke the root or not, but I cannot flash anything on the phone, mainly new ROM.
When I try to wipe it will give me this error:
"error wipe dalvik via adb"
"error wipe ext via adb"
If I go and flash the ROM anyway, it will get stuck at the splash screen forever...
Fresh Rom 2.3.3 will give me the endless droid dance
Cyanogenmod 6.0.0 Test 4 For Hero CDMA will be stuck at the "X" animation
I can pull out the battery stuff and it still doesn't work. I am able to just restore my nandroid backup and the phone will work then.
Does anyone knows what did wrong? Or how I can get this to work?
PS: I have the "Superuser Permission" ninja is my apptray so I assume I rooted it correctly...
Make sure your battery its charged when flashing. Re-download whatever files you want to flash, sometimes they get corrupted during download. Which recovery are you using?

also if when your in the recovery image for the first time or you have been in there for awhile i get those errors but usually a shut down and the boot back into recovery works for me
I managed to get this working with Rom Manager after restoring the nandroid to the Sprint ROM. Running on Fresh 2.3.3 now, thanks for the reply!
Hi
I am trying to restore my backup using Rom manager with Clockworkmod 3.0.0.5, however i was not able to boot to CWM recovery. I have tried to flash it to older versions CWM but error message "An error occurred while flashing your recovery."
I flashed RA Recovery v2.2.1 via Rom Manager and it works. However i am unable to flash back to any versions of CWM.
I have just gotten back my n1 replacement and would like to restore my previous backup. Thanks in advance
I have the same error on My Touch 4G.
im having the same thing, it is most likely server side and nothing to do with our phones
To see if it's a server issue, you can actually go into the Clockworkmod/download folder on your SD to confirm that the recovery is downloaded. If it's there, it's not a network issue... I think it's more likely an issue with cwm...
Have you tried flashing via adb, terminal, or fastboot?

it was server side issue.. its back up now and i didn't change a thing on my end.. when i searched google for "site: forums.xda-developers.com unable to flash recovery" and went to options by latest.. a whole bunch of other forums popped up last night or today with the same problem

You prolly fixed this already but in case someone else has this issue. Try installing Busybox from the market.
Same issue and won't boot into clockworkmod recovery

I rooted my phone with eclair installed and used clockworkmod recovery with no issues until I one day wanted to go back to stock and attempted a restore of the backup I made right before flashing the OverStock ROM. The phone wouldn't boot, so finally got the Overstock to go back. Phone worked fine for the most part, but from then on to get into recovery mode, required shutting down and using button presses (Up/down vol/PWR button) and it would go in fine. Could never get Clockworkmod to go into recovery mode with a click. Saw that (finally) Samsung has published a Froyo update, so took back to stock eclair using ODIN3 so I could use Kies mini to update. Did a factory reset to remove all old info directories and data. Update went perfect, but want the option to use the rooted apps (Titanium backup and ClockworkMod--purchased apps) to play with my phone as I see fit. Used SuperOneClick to root phone and verified I can get superuser with using terminal emulator, successfully executing "su" command. Problem is I can't get into CWM recovery. Only get "Android system recovery <3e>". Tried uninstalling CWM and reinstalling. Re-Flashed CWM recovery and it lists version 2.5.1.2 as current and latest.
I obviously need CWM recovery to flash different ROMS, but wanted a current backup before starting. Can't get any further until I figure this out. Any help would be appreciated. I was a noob, just a month ago, but was feeling pretty confident until this happened. Guess I'm still a noob, but just a little more dangerous now. Thanks in advance.
Just noticed that I wasn't in a phone specific thread, so here's my phone details... Samsung Vibrant (T-Mobile).
CWM issues with Milestone
In the last update of the RomManager was added support for version ClockWorkMod 3.x for Milestone - but still unable to use the CWM as standard recovery.
Using another recovery as OR1.4 you can start CMW from the SD card - but that does not solve the problem of RomManager stay with completely limited functions.
The Rom Manager is having updates constantly and I think we have a working version for Milestone soon - but in part I'm upset to see that the Milestone is listed as a supported device - when in fact it is not.
I bought the full version of Rom Manager because I believe it is a great tool and I hope someday I can use all its functions.
I have the same problem. I use OpenRecovery for Sholes to do those things. I hope we can use those tools like a normal user even a day.
I have spent a day and a half trying to fix all of my issues before I finally turned here but I am at my wits end.
This all started with my attempt to flash Viper to my HTC one. I installed clockwork touch loaded Viper to the drive and went to install. During the install process something happened and my install failed. When I rebooted the phone it returned to the fasboot screen and there was no recovery present. I had heard that sometimes TWRP works better for installing some ROMs so I decided to switch courses and try that. Before installing I went and formatted cache, data, ect. When I tried to install Viper this time it appeared to be a successful install. However, I was once again I was returned to the fastboot screen and no recovery was present. I tried this a few more times with either clockwork or TWRP using sideload with no luck. I also trried using fastboot to flash a sprint stock recovery boot and image. When the phone rebooted it showed the white HTC Screen but nothing happened for a half hour so I restarted the phone again only to be dropped into the fastboot. I also tried locking and unlocking the boot loader and tried a Sprint HTC one RUU with no success.
So at this moment this is where I stand:
I am on the fastboot screen with no recovery.
HBOOT 1.56.0000
S-ON
Any help you can provide would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks for your time.

So I have my phone up an running on a stock RUU but I seem to have the same issues with and error when installing Viper. Any ideas as to what the issue could be?

... now that its up and running, i recommend you get s-off 1st. it eases many things. then flash twrp 2.7.0.4 recovery and try to flash viper :victory: ...
I was in this situation myself. If you can adb twrp recovery onto your phone. Dont try to flash viper with cwm it will mess stuff up. After you have a recovery loaded flash the viper rom. If it boots up be sure to check about phone section in the settings and see if there is a baseband version present. If not just flash the latest firmware and you should be good to go. This was what i had to do.
Same here, about a month ago. They really need to just remove that option to flash CWM. I managed to get a recovery installed, but now it seems like half the ROMs I try to flash won't boot. I don't even know what Rom I am using, because it has disappeared from XDA. It's a 4.4.2 Sense 5.5 ROM, and it is odexed and came with Xposed Installer. It's the only ROM that seems to work anymore, so I have to wonder if my firmware got messed up. I'm S-On, with no way to S-off for the foreseeable future until I can fix my laptop. Since my laptop is unavailable, I'm a bit hesitant to mess with the phone much more, since I can't fix it again without the computer.

I've read a number of these threads, and many have Viper in common. Viper by itself is an amazing ROM. Maybe too amazing... Incredible amount of customization. I have to remind myself occasionally that as much as I flash ROMs and lurk around here that I am not a dev.
I would do my best to achieve S-OFF if you have any plans for custom ROMs. It's always useful. I would also suggest trying one of the Sense 6 ROMs. They are all amazing.

S-OFF is necessary for some ROMs to work, although I'm not sure about Viper. Use firewater.

I am very sorry I know this is a slow response. So I tried to first root my phone so I could use firewater but I ran into issues. First, I tried to place supersu on the internal hard drive via windows but when I rebooted into recovery I was not able to find any of the folders I had access to. So i tried using side load but got errors that I could not mount cache and could not mount system. Do you have any suggestions on how to proceed?
So I was running Ultimate PureXSP v2.1 and it was starting to get really bogged down and slow so I figured id try and reinstall the ROM over the existing install, so I went into TWRP and installed it, the install said failed but because of the touch debug messages, I couldnt see the error message.
Anyway, TWRP has always had erratic screen movements and general weirdness, it would keep going back to the homescreen when trying to flash. So I rebooted and it got stuck in a bootloop!
I used flashtool to put a stock 201 firmware on and now its runnning okay again. But I have lost root and recovery and I dont think 201 can be rooted unless I downgrade first but I will probably run into data problems, I cant use titanium backup or a nandroid to back up my data.
What should I do? I dont have any backup software that works without root and I cannot root without downgrading and losing data.
Can I unlock the bootloader from 201 and then add recovery and root? I already have a TA backup and my unlock key.
Any help would be great!

Yup, that's what I did.
Unlocked the bootloader. Then can flash any custom kernel. I flashed DoomLord's Adv Stock kernel, which has an inbuilt recovery. Then flash chainfire's SuperSU update through recovery to get root. Then can install any other recovery and flash stock .201 kernel back. One problem though.. YOU WILL LOSE ALL YOUR DATA (INCLUDING WIPING OF INTERNAL SDCARD) WHEN UNLOCKING THE BOOTLOADER. So, do you have any cwm data backup done before?
Edit: Backup&Restore app that comes with stock Rom is supposed to backup and restore data without root. But it never worked for me when restoring things. Other option is to use 'ADB backup' commands from a pc. It also didn't do restore properly for me. Can try those as last resorts.
