when I click on 'battery' in settings, this is what I see:
Android OS- 55%(!!!!)
mediaserver 6%
android system 2%
and more of course.. but its not important
I dont know what happened, and what the problem is..

EDIT:
UPDATE-
Ok I have done factory reset+ full deletion.
installed milestone 6 (aokp) again and flashed devil (3) kernel.
no OC for now.. settings are set to default and have not been changed
still having problem: when I click on settings->battery:
first of all, it says phone is awake most of the time (why?)
android OC 3% (finally normal)
screen 17%
Voice calls 17% (its kinda normal too right?!?!?)
cell standby 8%
***android system 15% (normal or not? I think its too much doesnt it?)
**google services 26% (this is not normal I think.. when I click on that, it says included apps: google bookmarks sync, contacts sync, network location, google account manager, services framework (google account is not registered on this phone)
and more of course..
when I click on "android system" I see included apps: settings.key chain(wtf is that?), system UI, galaxy s settings, android system, theme chooser, vpndialog(what is this?), settings storage, google backup transport, settings. (is this normal?)
try easy battery saver app..
And u can also use help modem and semaphore kernel with any custom ROM...
If my post helped, don't mind hitting THANKS ;-)

i had that with 0.99 ver , flashed the new semaphore 1.2.6s and now its again normal, i didnt have that problem with devil3 0.98v3, try flashing semaphore and see what will happen

Have you tried removing the battery for 10 minutes then booting back up?
This worked for me a number of times.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda app-developers app
I would also try to use another kernel (semaphore works good for me), if you don't have your battery drain anymore, try flashing back to your kernel (or wait for an update...)
easy battery saver app hsnt solved the problem.. still battery drain (but made that liitle bit better)
now im trying flashing another kernel.. (semaphore) and after few hours i will be coming back to devil kernel.
The problem might be with the rom? (ho and I have never done any factory reset/delete partition when I switch kernel or upgraded to another AOKP version)
waiting for more help.. ty everybody
Sounds like a rogue app is causing battery drain......instal better battery stats from the market and see what is causing the problem ....they have support website as well
Also try a clean flash, that would seem to be at the root of your problem, probably corrupt data or app data
The problem fore when I had Thais is that smartassv2 would stick at the highest frequency all the time. Try a governor like lulzactive and go to devil kernel 0.98.3. 0.99 has strange issues cause of the jb support

still looking for a solution.. just came back from semaphore to devil 3 and I think the battery is little bit better but still got serious drain..
1.what is "mediaserver" ? it takes me like 10% of battery.. what is that used for?
2. how to I apply backup for whatsapp?

-problem hasnt still been solved.. even with another kernel
-all those battery saver apps are not helping..
-devil 3 is a good kernel right? I mean, it does not supposed to have any battery drain issues?
-titanium backup makes backup for game's and apps' date right? (whatapp conversation ..) ?

it is a very good kernel and if it has battery drains with latest version u can see it in the devil thread, if u like tweaks alot then its better to use devil then semaphore, but if u like a simple but smooth kernel then stay with semaphore ,both have a low battery consumption if u dont oc

After 2 months of normal behaviour on SlimICS+Semaphore kernel, my phone got the same problem today.
I have a feeling that "Google Backup Transport" is the main culprit. I have tons of such processes in "OS Monitor", that weren't there before.
Better Battery Stats shows nothing, I only have high battery usage for "Android OS" (29% - CPU: 9min, Awake: 2h 10min) of 9h total time.
And I have "Backup & reset" disabled in "Settings".
This option was causing battery drains on few of my friends phones, so I always suggest to disable this option!
I hope phone reboot will fix the issue automatically if not I will have to reflash my phone again!
PS: Google Play and Skype could also be few of the usual suspects.

I need help with my battery drainage, I cannot seem to track down what is the cause of my problems here. While at work I get a drain of anywere from 30-40 percent in about 5-6 hours! now that seems like ALOT.
I've tried stock, CM 6 R2, and Enom - I am on a custom kernel (2.6.35-925mV-CFS-SVS-720p-Monks-081010).. I am currently on that kernel and Enoms latest rom.
I've tried many things I've found on this forum. I installed "ShutUpBatterySaver", I removed my task manager, removed TiKL (heard it wasted battery while not in use), uninstalled ALOT of apps that I dont use/need just in case, Installed OSMonitor and watched to make sure nothing is using the CPU while its trying to sleep (I get less than 10 percent in use at any given time while the phone should be idle from android system mostly), I've stopped using live wallpapers and made sure my auto dim setting is on..
I'm not sure what else to do here Please Help!!
Thanks

Your system is using 10% cpu while the phone is IDLE??? Yeah, that's not right. Mine is in the noise (<1%) when idle.

me too the battery life on n1 sucks for me... i would unplug it then when i get to work on idle i turn it on it drops like 10 -15 percent in about an hour or so...??
Here is what I did.
1. Try to use black themes. I installed black desire bar and use black wallpaper.
2. Install SetCPU and set it to "on demand"
3. Change Wifi sleep policy to never.
4. Turn off autosync and use Shutupbatterysaver (This app automatically closes even after adding to task manager ignore list)
5. Remove widgets that auto refresh.
6. I'm using the same kernel as yours.
I also have **** battery life. Is it almost a must to calibrate the battery if you want to achieve good battery life?
Some people comment about how they have 36 hours of battery life OVERCLOCKED. If only my battery could come remotely close to that!
Unplugged my phone 1.25 hours ago and I'm already at 92%!
Edit: hmm, it tells me that my phone has been awake for 28 of the 75 minutes which is essentially impossible. Is there an issue where the phone takes too long to sleep?
I just recently got some very good usage out of my battery. Over night it only dropped something like 4%.
I'm not sure exactly what to attribute to as I've tried so many ROMS etc recently but the main things are probably
Installed SetCPU and set to 245min 500max
When in wifi location connect to it for data sync instead of 2g/3g as it uses less power when idle.

Something you're running is keeping it awake.. Most likely you have online/syncing/notifications on IM, Facebook, Twitter, something like that... Not the apps themselves, but them set to sync etc..
Spare Parts should be able to tell you what's keeping it awake.
What's UID 10018?

1. I have a black theme and my wallpaper is dark not black though
2. SetCPU is not installed but via spare parts I have my max at 107520 and govenor is on demand
3. My Wifi policy is never
4. i tried shutupbatterysaver and switched to juice defender but will probably switch back
5. I removed all widgets that auto refresh except the facebook widget (set to never refresh but it does anyway for some reason), and beutiful home widget set to update weather every 6 hours.

In the process of calibrating my battery by draining it COMPLETELY (as in I can't even access the bootloader) and then charging it fully. I'll let you know if that helps!
Seems as if it's helped quite a bit. I managed to boot up, deal with the phone for a few minutes and download a 65MB file over WiFi and when I unlocked I was still at 99%. Try re-calibrating.
Try removing handcent. I used on my g1 and out was a serious battery hog.

It maybe because of either BLN or WiFi sleep not enabled!

Curious why you would back up all your apps and data every night? If you have tons of apps it will use a significant amount of battery. Obviously could be your kernel that your running as well, or the modem, or a number of other factors.

Try this. Do a manual backup of all ur apps and data and see how much battery decreases. This will give u an idea of how much battery this task needs. On mine, it doesn't take more than 1% to backup like some 45+ apps and their data.
Well the back up doesn't even take 1% of my battery.. but I'm cancelling the schedule just for now to see what happens.

I don't think it's BLN. I frequently have Gmail get a new email in the middle of the night and not notice until morning, which means BLN was on the whole time, and I do not notice a negative effect on my battery.

Some ROMs have an app called Blinky, if you can find it. It allows you to set the BLN to blink, so you can save some battery that way.
Try flashing a different kernel. I can't remember which is included by default but I would suggest trying the speedmod kernel.
I guess the problem was tibu. My battery only decreased 7%. Is that y'alls battery life? And I have the bln app but how do you use it
Sent from my phone
That is good for idle drain overnight. As far as the app open it and check the box for enable, uncheck for disable? Don't like bln so I can't remember exactly.
I got a 54% decrease overnight and I realized I had wifi on. Is this the reason?

Just go to the development section and look for threads prefixed with [KERNEL]. You can flash any kernel with SGS kernel flasher available from the market. I get insane battery life with glitterballs' kernel overclocked and undervolted, though I only enable wifi when doing extended browsing or downloading of files.
I'm running Perception 10.1 and I had HORRIBLE battery drain from day 1.
I noticed that my phone was constantly pinging the Google servers around every 5-7 seconds.
I had to disable automatic updates for Gmail in the stock email app and the ping/drain stopped. No idea what the real problem is. Gmail was set to update every two hours, but it obviously had other plans. Good thing my Gmail is a backup/spam account.
Hello, I'm starting this thread to actually discuss general battery usage patterns/ concerns. I figure this might be helpful for some people if not then..... =P
currently im using stock gb battery monitor to roughly monitor my battery usage, there is a mod to make the reading more accurate but i havent applied it yet...
Also... lets put up screen of the best battery life we've managed to get our phones here heee, would be fun to see =P

question is,
1) is it normal for mobile standby and phone idle to be ard 50% ish?
2) is it normal for my phone to stay in awake mode when i turn on the alarm

Nice idea..
I charge my OB every night, and reboot after alarm in the morning. I dunno if it is from alarm or charging but if I don´t reboot the juice is gone in about 8 h. also battery usage app is frozen. I have this issue on every ROM, ( stock 2.3,CM7 from kang to about 60, marvell, zeus test v2.1, nova v8).
If i do the reboot in the morning the phone uses about 50% of the battery during the day (17 h). i use it for a few sms´s and calls, about an hour of websurf (wifi) and some facebook/ Xda usage..

I dunno, if in not mistaken, when you reboot it deletes your old battery stats bin but I'm still trying to understand how resetting a stat could make the battery last longer its what most battery calibration apps claim to do...
For me once a week I manually delete the stats thru cwm and yeah it does make the battery seem more resilient.....
And yeah I got the same again as my photo again, phone stays awake when I turn alarm on.... :/

Deleting batterystats.bin does nothing to callibrate your battery. It just stores info, like a logger. BatteryUsage retrieves the info to display it.

Something is causing a wakelock, what happened to you is not normal. Usually a reboot solves things like that, if it doesnt, then it will either be a rom bug or an app holding the wakelock. Use Better Battery Stats to find whats causing it.
thanks for the app recommendation found that my dialer is causing a portion of my wake lock..... and system too.... hmmmm
ok lets just say my dialer keeping my phone in a wake lock is caused by malware... would a clean install of a rom and manually reinstalling of apps w/o data get rid of the malware?
meanwhile... googling wakelocks =D
Hi, I have some experience with sudden huge battery drains and wakelocks etc. both on stock V20N and Zeus v3.2n. I did not figure out how/why it works but here are some things you can try. I did not have any huge battery drains anymore the last 24h! (on Zeus v3.2n, did not try on V20N stock)
- I have an IMAP email account installed with K9 mail and an ordinary hotmail account with the hotmail app. Both accounts are set on push and in this configuration the hotmail app causes my wifi to never go to sleep, causing increased battery drain. Removing the hotmail app solves the problem.
- automatic update of time and date settings can cause wakelock. Unchecking Settings > Date & time settings > Automatic might solve your problem. I read this somewhere on XDA.
- Use wireless networks to determine location might cause wakelocks as well. Unchecking Settings > Location & Security > Use wireless networks might solve your problem. Read this somewhere on XDA again.
As I said, I did all of this and my wakelock problem is gone for at least 24h! Now I already have 60h on one battery and still 43% left... I cannot remember the threads where I read about this but if needed I can search... Also I did not try yet whether any single thing actually caused my problem. I just killed all of it as I do not miss it I am happy. Keep me updated if you found out which one worked for you
Tip: the BetterBatteryStats app is written by somebody on the XDA forum, you can download the apk for free from some thread in XDA (search is your friend)
I think a day and a half is a good battery lifetime for the OB, if there is no app or something that drains the battery in a hard way.
I can manage to get this with the marvel rom, and my personal user-settings. Also i think every smartphone u can actually get needs to be charged around every 24 hours.
I also want to share my experience. I use the cm7 2.3 gb rom and the battery response is very bad. Battery completely dead in 18 hours. Then i switched to v20n german gb rom. It gives me better battery timing about 28 -30 hours on normal use. The i change the settings of account syncronization of gmail, hotmail, facebook etc to manual. Then there is a big difference in battery drainage. Now my battery consumed in 48 hours on normal use.
Sent from my LG-P970 using XDA
On android phones, if yours phone gives u 24 hours backup then it has good battery timing. Further you can increase the timing through the steps and trick mentioned by different peoples in this thread
Sent from my LG-P970 using XDA
Battery should last at least 18 hours on normal usage with 3G and sync with gmail , contacts and calendar. Sometimes you just turn off so many things to just make it home with some battery in it....
battery is mainly kernel related...
we need good kernels that all..
Thank you for the wakelock tips.
It seems that V20o is way better than all the other ROMS concerning battery, without any tweak. Maybe it can be further optimizet with tweaks.
A short comment: it is true that theoretically battery is kernel related issue, but in a real world high battery drain is usually caused by bad apps and other non-kernel related things.
using zeus v5.03 lite.
battery drains so much when the screen off. nearly 1 percent in every 2 minutes.
but it is ok when the screen off

flash any kernel that supports custom charge values, discharge until 0%, then charge up to 5% and unplug the cable, set the max ac current at 350, leave it charging up to 100% (it will last much longer than a normal charge) and overcharge at least mid hour more, then try to see any difference. Also if you dont need 3G / HSDPA connections disable it and use GSM only, you will get much more battery doing this. Disable entropy seeder apps / services and any other unnecesary service, another advice: Use 1 or 2 max messaging clients, having more than 2 will cause more battery wasted.
If you need your phone charged always fast use the default charger value, but if you need more battery charge it slowly, (350~400)
you know your phone doesnt charge to 100% percent it only simulates this to you, becaus you would be unhappy if it whould show 95% at the end of the charging cicle. so it shows 100% and after a short while it shows the correct values ... maybe 10-15 min. i think this is ordinary behaviour to prevent battery from fast degeneration.

I am not sure, but I think option for that need to be embended in kernel. That you can change it. I do not know if it works, better ask Varun when he is here.
For this who have battery drain problem, download from gp 'Deep Sleep Battery Saver'. This app turn off deep sleep when screen is of, and wake up phone to sync once per hour. Fot me its make much better. Now i have 99% of battery for about 3h!!
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...ration&feature=nav_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDNd
use this...
well here are a few things that i do to save battery
Firstly use xxlpz baseband instead of xxlq4. Basebands also affect the battery life. (Baseband helps to provide all the network functions).
basebands are inter compatible, so you can use xxlpz baseband over a Rom based on xxlq4
Secondly, I use stock xxlpz odexed firmware. Deodexed rom is used by the modders to theme the framework.
Otherwise an odexed rom is slightly faster than Deodexed rom. Moreover deodexed rom will use the data partition to write it's .dex files which reduces the data partition a little...
I don't use any modded rom. If you see the modded Roms, most of them have superficial changes, not from source. A little change in the framework, a few init.d scripts and some extra apps. You can always change your framework on your own by decompiling the framework-res.apk and systemui.apk.
If you don't know how to then use UOT kitchen. ( I am not opposing anybody. please don't take it personally)
Use a custom kernel. I use cocore 4.4. For me battery is really good using it. I have made an init.d script. If you use cocore 4.4 then put the script in /system/etc/init.d and set permission 0777 and reboot. Also set the governor to ondemandq.
After installing cocore, drain your battery untill it switches off on it's own. Then put your phone in download mode (that is on the screen where it warns us not to flash custom rom) and leave the phone untill it discarges the battery fully.
Now charge you phone till it reaches 100%. overcharge it for half an hour.
After this reboot into recovery and flash Shaaan clockworkmod. Goto advanced setting and eipe battery stats and reboot.
If you are not a hardcore gamer then Switch on powersaver in setting which would limit cpu to 800 mhz, lower the brightness. You will still be able to play, light games like temple run, granny smith, cut the rope etc without any lags.
You can buy anf install ram manager pro for better ram management.
You can also disable a few samsung apps.
Go to settings> manage applications.
Select an app which you don't use and disable it.
I disabled swype, accu weather, chaton yahoo services and few more which run in the background and I dont use. Disabling would freeze the applications, which you can also do with titanium backup.
I use nova launcher which uses less ram and is smooth... Never lock apps in memory.
My settings are minimal, ie I keep vibration and haptic feedback switched off.
I don't use 3g so I keep the network to Gsm only. But I am 24*7 day and night connected to WiFi.
So I use easy battery saver and set it to intelligent mode...
I play a few games mentioned above, lots of WiFi for surfing the web and calls. My screen is always turned on literally. But I manage 1.5 days of battery life.
Well yeah that's it..

Thanks, very detailed explanation! I will try everything you said
Welcome guys
Does anyone know what's the best kernel for increasing battery life time
thnx all
you can increase battery life in every kernel. Under clock your cpu or change the governor. There are few apps for this, best for me is set cpu

I'm using mackay kernel and my governor is ondemandX
But under clocking will make the phone too slow (which I cannot get used to)
but in some roms like v30B ICS and I remember cm7 and Zeus
the whole night(wifi off / mobile data off / GPS off / Bluetooth off) just connected to network and it may consumes only 2%-3%
So is there any thing to do with Macaky rom/kernel
thnx
from 85% to 18% in just 6 Hours wifi on but not connected and screen off and everything else was off
I think this is huge now I will try BBS

Set wifi to off, when screen is off, also I really recommend Greenify, this saves a lot of juice, if you freeze the right apps
Sent from my LG-P760 using xda app-developers app
I also strongly recommend Greenify.
I have purchased the paid version and have most of the apps (including system ones) greenified. Battery life significantly improved and no problem with receiving messages etc.
I use "Better wifi on/off" as well, to automatically turn wifi off when my home network is not connected.
I would also advise switching automatic sync off. That's the culprit of battery drain for my OB.
Hope these helps.
Hi, all CM 10/CM10.1 roms seems to be more battery draining.
