Hello all.
I want to buy a mobile phone but i don't know what should i buy.
I don't care if my phone is big.(there isn't too big for screen)
but.
in my country (israel), thr prices are the issue.
those are the prices for the phones: (from a mobile store):
HTC Desire HD: 1086$
Samsung Galaxy s(i9000): 768$
Htc Desire:582$
i really want the best phone for the best price.
is there really a reason to add 300$ for the Desire HD?
or should i go for the Galaxy S?
BTW: A8 or Snapdragon?
Thanks All!
The one reason I wouldn't buy the Desire HD is the lack of internal storage space. I mean, 1.5GB vs 16GB? Yes, you can add on a microSD card and move your apps to storage, but the fact that many apps themselves don't let you do it is going to make things a tad more complicated than it has to be. Plus, you'll have to dish out some extra money for a microSD card, unless HTC provides you with one.
That said, the reason I would get the Desire HD is mainly because of the HTC Sense software, oh and the 8MP camera. While the 5MP camera on the Galaxy S is great, the lack of an LED flash leaves a lot to be desired. And TouchWiz isn't really my favourite UI, which is why I've flashed my SGS with a custom ROM and installed LauncherPro.
In terms of performance, I'd say they're about on par with each other. Bigger RAM gives the DHD a bit of an edge over the SGS, but the Hummingbird processor is just significantly better at rendering graphics.
I'm happy with my SGS, and personally, 4.0-inch is the limit for me. Anything above that should really go in the tablet category. Plus, after using the S-AMOLED screen on the SGS, regular LCD screens feel a bit.. insufficient, if you know what I mean.
This is just my opinion. Don't take my word for it. I still think the Desire HD is an awesome phone, just not for me. Since there's also the price factor to think about, and in your case there is a USD300 price difference. I'd seriously think about what I'd pay an extra USD300 for.
I'll wait for a nexus S.
If you are able to get Google Nexus S,
there is absolutely no reason to bother with Samsung Galaxy S.
If I could get Nexus S, I wouldn't even bother with any other phone including Desire HD.
except the nexus s is only coming out with tmobile 3g frequencies..
wait for galaxy s 2 or x12 (lol)
well...
I don't really see alot of changes in the Nexus...
http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=3620&idPhone2=3115
yeah it's has Led and a few other tiny things..
but it's seems that the hardware is the same...
and i don't think that Desire HD worth adding 300$...
I think i will go with the Galaxy S,
Maybe i will exchange it after the Nexus come out
..
BTW! The Galaxt S2 looks Great!!!
Think you should go with the Galaxy S if you get a sweet deal. Otherwise, might as well get the Nexus S since it's slightly updated with Gingerbread.
In reality, it boils downs to, which one do you like better. The straight one or the concave one. Haha.
Not worth getting a galaxy s, developing is slow kinda, but since nexus s is a Google phone with stock aosp gingerbread, u shud get more devs working on it. And get cm first, miui , and all the other mods available.

That what i thought about..
The Galaxy S and the Nexus S are the same phone.
so i guess that every mod that will be on Nexus will be on the Galaxy..
that why i'm taking the Galaxy...
(and i'm an Apple dev... :S)
I would wait
I would wait and get Nexus S instead of Galaxy S.
The reasons:
1. Price (~530$ in US if I'm not mistaken). If you have a friend visiting US (preferably one of the tax-free states), ship it directly to the hotel and ask him to bring it.
2. You get "stock" android with fastest adoption of new releases. Samsung's froyo adoption is about half a year late after Nexus and is far below in terms of tuning quality.
3. Even if Nexus S is just a remake of Galaxy, second generation should theoretically have some problems of the first generation resolved... (lag, GPS just to name a few).
BTW all..
I can't find any comparing between the i9000 vs the HD7
HD7 cost the same as the i9000 here.
so maybe i should get the HD7?
AFAIK, HD7 is windows, not android... Does it matter to you?
I'm due to upgrade my Hero in January and currently torn between Desire HD, Galaxy S and Nexus S.
Here's my random thoughts so far, good and bad:
Nexus S
-Nice form factor, but possibly plasticy build like SGS.
-I'm not bothered about the vanilla Android experience as I would like to root flash a custom ROM from day one / as soon as available.
-I have a DSLR so the addition on LED flash over the SGS is no deal breaker.
-I have no intention of video calling so front facing camera is of no concern.
-NFC is not something I will ever use.
-Was expecting dual core, or at least a jump up from 1GHz.
-Unsure if / when T-Mobile UK will stock them.
-Most future proof of the three phones.
-Great screen.
Desire HD
-This was the main contendor to begin with but battery life seems to be a big issue for some and I don't really want a phone I have to either not use fully, disable features or charge more than once a day.
-It has Sense UI, which I have always liked.
-Great build, but possibly a little big.
-Nicest looking of the 3 phones.
-Screen not as good as Nexus S, SGS.
-Again, I have a DSLR so the 8MP camera + flash is nothing for me to get excited about.
Galaxy S
-Laggy out of the box - fixed with custom ROMs and other methods.
-GPS issues - Has this been fixed yet?
-Looks a bit too much like iPhone 3GS.
-Comfortable to hold, but feels a bit plasticy.
-Should get similar updates to Nexus 2, or at least good ports.
-Great screen.
-Increasing amount of decent custom ROMs, mods and themes.
So, with all that said, I'm still no closer to choosing one!
T-Mobile UK do both DHD and SGS already so I'll wait and see if they carry the Nexus S and then maybe I'll be able to make my mind up

I understand that the HD7 is almost the same as Desire HD in all terms..
so i guess that it's only a metter of time that a Dual boot will come out..I think..
What do you say?
I want to buy the mobile this week... I can't wait >_<
HD7 or i9000?
I know how you feel Lee...
But for me the Desire HD isn't a choice, cos it's cost 300$ more then the other phones..
that why i think about the HD7 as a choise..
and another thing.... The price hasn't change a bit even if you buy a Used one..

Wow, that's quite a price jump!
Personally, I'd go for the i9000 over any WinMo 7 based phone purely from an OS point of view.
My friend has the HTC Trophy WinMo 7 phone and it's a great handset, however I think the OS has a while to go before it's a worthy competitor for Android.
Don't buy Desire HD, it's a crap, beside the higher price than SGS, its battery life is horrible and its screen is never as good as Samsung's Super AMOLED.
If time is not problem, you should wait for Nexus S because it has the same specs as SGS plus Android 2.3, flash LED and good supports from Google.
You should get the desire hd it looks the best it don't have that crappy pentile and HTC has a 8mpx camera with flash has a micro SD card slot , and does anyone even use more than 500mb for apps/games anyway ?? , xda already has some wicked roms and with the new snapdragon(better than hummingbird *opinion*) the phone is mega fast straight outside the box and finally HTC always is the next in line for there updates

I was waiting for the Nexus S - I really wanted a stock Android phone, and when I saw the pictures I got very excited - and then I saw the lack of 850MHz 3G (UMTS) support.
Arguable the fastest and best coverage 3G network in Australia, the Telstra network runs on 850MHz (like AT&T and Rogers I believe). Pricing might not be as good - but work can pay for that .
So my question - should I wait with fingers crossed that a 850MHz 3G version of the Nexus S is developed/released, or should I just get a SGS (Telsta capable version - sorry can't post link am too much of a noob) and load stock Android on to it (assuming that in a couple of months someone will have figured how to do this for Gingerbread)?
I'm tempted to wait at least a little while, as no announcement of any availably of the Nexus S in Australia yet, but I really want to upgrade from my BlackBerry Bold soon (it and it's temperamental scroll "pearl" are is driving me mad!) The temptation to wait yet longer for a Honeycomb flavored phone is probably not enough to make me hold off.
Thanks for any thoughts/opinions on this idea
Hello all,
So I know some of the developers are moving on to better phones... and I wonder, after the nexus one which has been an awesome phone, whats the latest greatest everyones going to (I use Att)
You didn't give a time frame for your upgrade but if you can hold out then the S2 looks like an excellent option. It's the first phone that I feel upgrades everything about the N1 and will likely be as popular as the original Galaxy S with the devs. It does lack NFC and has the same resolution as the N1 but it'll probably be years before NFC is commonplace (In the UK at least) and the Super Amoled Plus screen has been called one of the best, if not the best displays out there by several reviews (Check out engadgets review).
The LG 2X (or G2X) is gaining a bit of momentum, although the stock software is pretty bad.
I'd definitely gofor the galaxy S2. Thats like the phone of the millennia.

The S2 has NFC really (point of correction)
And to add to that, i have been using N1 since the month it came out and to be frank the only phone worthy of being an upgrade to my N1 is the Samsung Galaxy S2.

Not in the UK it doesn't
I don't want to go any bigger, so probably Desire S unless the Galaxy S2 Mini is almost exactly the same with the only difference being 3.7" vs 4.3" screen.
i didn't make up my mind between htc sensation or samsung g s2
I'd definitely go for the s2. I see more value for money on that.but that's just me.

Agreed, the Galaxy S II is the first phone that has looked liked a worthwhile upgrade to the N1. I've been a little tempted by it, however I've decided I can hold out a bit longer - for the possibility of a Nexus 3 in December. I'm hoping it'll be as revolutionary as the N1, and not a complete disappointment like the Nexus S.
I wouldn't really call the Nexus S a disappointment.... just more of a Nexus One.5; upgraded touch pannel, NFC, better GPU/CPU. It just wasn't a huge leap like the the previous ~500ghz phones to the Snapdragon.
I wanted the Sensation because I don't like the way Samsung has treated their upgrades, but if the SGSII is hackable enough I might concider it over the Sensation.
I'm thinking HTC Pyramid/Sensation...if it can be unlocked & rooted
I'm a vanilla stock Nexus guy, so I just splurged on a Nexus S. If it weren't for an accident, I probably would've hold out for the 3rd Nexus iteration or Samsung Galaxy S II.
Any phone with dual core and gingerbread in it
anything dual core
Seriously there is no point going with the Desire S or anything like that.
You're getting the same CPU except die shrinked. OK GPU is better but I'm not big on touch screen gaming so its moot for me, of course you may think otherwise. Screen, battery, functionality all similar to Nexus, you won't see much difference.
Basically you want a major bump, and that means atrix, SGS2, sensation, LG2x.
atrix is bootloader locked, ditto sensation. not sure about LG2x but it only has 512RAM, otherwise looks like a good phone. But Samsung Galaxy S2 looks like the runaway best option - you get a vastly better screen, better battery, cpu and gpu that smokes, also ships with gingerbread, very popular so lots of dev support, can't lose. Only issue is cost, gigantor size and availability - apparently there are 3 million preorders/backorders!!!!
In all honesty if SGS2 is not for you, I'd just wait. I'm doing that with my nexus one, I figure a 3.7 or 4" superphone is round the corner (not too keen on 4.3 gigantic size either), or I'll just save a few hundred bucks, in meantime the nexus is still trucking along doing everything I need it to do (push emails, SIP, music, light browsing, google sauce integration, gps, and oh yeah it works as a phone lol).
Is the new Sammy only coming out for ATT or is there also a Tmo version?
first time nexus one user. like it but i see y they made the s. had the g2x took it back, and i have the xperia play on the way. might go with the sensation on the 6th. they cracked the thunderbolt so they will crack that as well. ill keep selling and trading till than.
I have the GS1 and I am for sure getting a GS2. I have had all the droids except for the charge and the galaxy line is far superior to any other Droid. The only other phone I would get is the next Nexus. The rumor is its going to be the Nexus R.

Nexus R? How about Nexus 3!
I've Bern full out nexus one proponent. But the galaxy s2 is finally what interests me to upgrade. Its very future proof, comes with up to date android 2.3.3, minimal skin, and unlocked boot loader. It ticks every box more than any other upcoming phone.
So I just let go my favorite phone of all time so far for the same price that I bought it for locally. I really loved the N1 and had it for a few months (bought it late Sept of '10). My dilemma now is that I am addicted to pure Google Experience phones
I also love having the latest hardware, so for me (TMOBILE US) the G2x or the upcoming Sensation or SGS2 look pretty promising as well. Should I just stick it out for 200 days until December for the Nexus 3 or just get the US Galaxy S2 or HTC Sensation? I'm stuck with my old SGH-T629 Slider phone until then
A co worker just got a g2x (from nexus one also)....and he dislikes the battery life...the 4g kills the battery

Really? I'm actually partial to the SGS2, with the increased RAM, ROM, and better processor (at least in early testing so far). It's even capable of a 2GHz overclock now. The internal memory and possible NFC support really has me hooked, even the FFC is better on the SGS2. The Phone is also ridiculously thin. The only draw back is the build quality, but that's made up for in SuperAmoled Plus, Gorrilla glass, and Codecs.
Yeah the G2x is my only dual core option for Tmobile, I'd rather get the Sensation over that. GS2 over both though
Hey guys, I am currently on the HD7 and am looking to trade for a Nexus One or even a Nexus S (any band I guess). I am just here to see what your thoughts are on the device. Honest opinion, I dont really have money to put in on the side, do you think I could do better than the Nexus One? I have a guy that will 1v1 a Galaxy S 4G as well. Is the Galaxy S4G better than the Nexus One?
Any thoughts are appreciated.
Get the galaxy a,. Better cpu and gpu + google still supports it
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
If you're looking to unlock and root the N1 (if it hasn't been done already) then it won't matter if Google supports it or not. You may be able to get ICS through future ROMs. The SGS 4G's better gpu really only matters if you want better graphics...and the cpu isn't that much different. If I could do it again...even with the phones out there now, I'd get another N1. I've had mine since early last year and I've had zero problems with it up until it got dropped into a cup of beer. So, it's built very well and it runs as good as the day I bought it.
I really like the design of the Nexus One. Its gonna be a tough choice.
So, now that we saw the Note II & Nexus 4. What do you guys think of it.
I currently have a T-Mobile Note II that I bought out of contract for 707$ after tax's. I was wondering if I should return it get the LG Nexus 4 16GB with the Nexus 10 tablet.
Please give me your feeedback and let the fight begin.

To me that would be a no brainer....support for Samsung's Exynos is already near the end and I hate TouchWiz. To be able to essentially get a phone and a top of the line tablet for the same price....WOW! I too toyed with getting the Note 2, but after seeing this device and the price, theres no way.
I was considering the note 2 as well, but the nexus devices are quality and for the price of them combined, i might as well get both the N4 and N10 together. Can't wait till they're ready to ship!
This is my dilemma.
Note II has LTE, expandable storage, replaceable battery, and S-Pen.
Nexus 4 has frequently updated stock Android, wireless charging, and is off-contract.
Now I have to decide whether or not to cancel my AT&T Note II pre-order.
it all comes down to "Screen Size" after using my Note II for a week i find it hard to go back to my 4.6' devices, im so used to the extra screen space i get with the Note II.. and the S Pen features..
But far as hardware i don't think your losing here.. they both have 2gb of ram, quad-core processors. But you lose your LTE speeds on the Nexus 4, (Not that T-Mobile has LTE anyway)
The question is:
Do you want to stick with Touchwiz and its features and a 5.5inch screen?
or have pure stock Android 4.2 but lose Touchwiz features and 5.5inch screen, expandable memory, and battery

You see my only problem is loosing the 5.5 screen and it does not have an expendable memory.
The main reason I bought the Note II was because I work as a Visual Specialist and I can put my concept book in it.
I bought the Note II straight out of contract for 707$ T-Mobile with the 30$ 5GB internet, unlimited text, and 100 minutes.
If I return that I can get the Nexus 4 16GB with the Nexus 10 Tablet. Use the Nexus 10 tablet for my concept book.
OMG SO HARD TO CHOOSE.
this is the same decision I am trying to make, at the weekend I ordered a sim free note ii on Amazon, as soon as I saw this announced, I cancelled my order.
with the Note ii the main selling point for me is the HUGE screen, I don't really care about the S-pen, although I guess it could come in handy when playing DrawSomething.
I currently have a Samsung Galaxy SII running Cyanogenmod 9 stable, I really like the phone, but I'm not a fan of touchwiz, which is one of the main reasons I am running CM, also it took Samsung longer to release ICS than it did the Cyanogenmod team, so for speed of updates, the Nexus gets some extra points here.
other than the size, the specs aren't that different, similar resolution (different type + size) screen, quad core CPU, 2gb memory, 16gb built in storage.
couldn't they just give me a 5.5" Nexus, than I would be happy, but am I going to notice a 0.8 inch difference all that much?
I'm trying to take price out of the equation, and decide what phone I would prefer regardless of the cost and even then its difficult!
This is my debate too but with the 3G non LTE version of the Note II...
Custom roms will be plenty on the Nexus 4 and no issues with updates...and quad core Krait > quad core Exynos A9...Samsung really should of put in quad core A15s to compete with the Krait chipsets.
If Nexus 4 had LTE I would have no dilemma.
In my country there is no 4G yet, Everything everywhere will be releasing theirs in a month or so, but its so expensive with stupid caps that I am not going to bother, and its only available in a few cities, so if I decided to go with the note it would be the 3g version anyway.
That was my dilemma sorta lol I have the gs3 and was planning on getting the note 2 but now I think I'm going for the n4 and n10. I had the gn and I loved it and the no sd was not an issue

Wow! exact same boat!!!! I just paid $710 for my Note 2 and having serious regrets at this point and thinking of returning. Only because I soon realized that $700 for a phone is sickening..
Options I considered...
1. Take back to tmobile for $50.. one manager tried to say $75 so watch out for shady managers.
2. Ebay the phone... you may get $700+ for it but expect around $20-40 in estimated fees (ebay and paypal) plus the risk of the buyer being shady and paypal pulling the money out of your account.
3. Craigslist... I wouldnt trust the money or the people looking to pay $700.
Why to sell:
$700 way to much for a phone
Touchwiz is garbage, admit it, its confusing as hell.
We are about a month away from getting the multi window support.
The phone is too large, yea it may fit in a pocket but in reality its does not handle naturally.
You can buy the nexus 4 and the Nexus 7 for the same price you paid for the note 2 (no brainer)
At this point, eat the $50 and just return it... better yet, sit on it for a few days and return it after the Nexus 4 reviews come out. I plan on dumping the phone especially since I love my smaller screen (vibrant) and always up to date firmwares you will bet getting from google.
Would you choose the Galaxy Note II with Microsoft Surface Pro
or
LG Nexus 4 16GB with Nexus 10 32GB Tablet.
No brainer. Nexus 4 all the way. Even more if you like to flash roms.

VZW isnt an option LTE or no LTE, so point seems moot.
Take back the note and get the nexi devices.
They are open devices and you can go flash crazy on them. Which is why you're on this message board, correct?
Personally, I don't like the idea and background of the phablets. They are just too big for me. Also, I'm kinda anti samsung for now. I haven't been happy with the build quality or material quality of my GNex.
but the LG build quality will be similar, or not? its all plastic.
and will this adapter for additional storage also work for the n10? just want to make sure, cause $100 extra for 16GB is just too much.
Lawls, if anyone has ever worked in a phone store, you'll know LG makes ****, to the point android can't fix their problems. Samsung was terrible too, but since Samsung went android/windows, it has been amazing. I'd get the tablet. I recently got a note 1, and put a aosp 4.1.2 ROM on it and love it(went from galaxy nexus). I want the note 2, but at $700, yeah its pretty steep, but hey, quad core, what do you expect? With that all said, I loved my g2x, but have heard many complaints that never hit me, except it killed my Sim card.
End rant.
