Video recording at 640x480 will reduce fps? - Samsung Galaxy Mini

Many way to recording video at VGA (640x480) like using lgcamera or cyanmobile ROM (by edit media_profiles.xml)! => Galaxy Mini able to recording at 640x480
Why stock camera and other app only 320x240? Why they don't make VGA? Is VGA recording will reduce fps (or what like fps)?

they do what is fully compatible

I havent understand yet

there must be something in recording at this resolution, that's why Samsung have not implemented it
if it was fully compatible with fit, then Samsung would be happy more than any one other to implement it in the mobile, so their fit can more easily be sold

Or maybe samsung is lazy and dont want to change it. And perhaps to force user to buy high end phones, just my opinion.

Is 720p video possible?

With a bunch of new phones with 5 megapixel cameras coming out, that can also take 720p video. I was wondering if it would be possible for our hero to take 720p video?
Please do tell what other phones are coming out with 720p video recording other then the nexus? which does keep in mind have a snapdragon processor which is definitely better then ours!

Not by much though.
You know, I honestly don't know if ours could or not. I mean they both are 5MP. The only thing I can think of would be a driver that is needed to support 720p.

those cameras that can reach 720p are qdsp6 cameras. ours are qdsp5. The highest i think we can get would probably be 480p, which i almost have working on my aosp rom. just need to do some more kernel hacking to actually get it to record properly (turns into a green jumbled mess when replaying it)

dude, even the verizon droid and the droid incredible have the capabilities of going as high as 720p. thats is a paraphrase of what the dev who got 720p working on nexus one said.
pretty much every android phone to come out after ours has that capability
So is this something that is coming up?

dammit haha. We missed it But anyway, I've been thinking, and now that you're hacking the hell out of the Hero and giving it all new features, there is really no reason to upgrade now when my contract is up. I'm just going to stick with my Hero until it breaks.

The answer is no, but even though they mention 720p in other roms that doesn't really exist.
The 720p on my Nexus One on CM doesn't really records very well.
Not working on the HD2..
Makes my HD2 to freeze..
the quality of the camera makes it not possible

Ummmmm no, its been done on WP7 for the HD2.
720p or not, HTC cameras - yes even the Desire HD - suck to the point of making me want to cry.
I'd prefer if ROM chefs took the option of 720p (along with 'switching camera' from the menu altogether, to prevent force closes and slowdown. The fact that the HD2 doesn't record 720p somehow just reminds me of how My old 3Gs does video better than a 720p camera on ANY HTC ever could....shameful.
Luckily I love the HD2 because of it's lovely build, screen and openness.
And the camera flash makes an excellent torch.
Sorry for the offtopic, but imo, htc hd2 camera is excelent for me.. On summer seaside,or winter skiing i make good pictures with my hd2.. And there is nearly no dofference between Hd2 camera and DHD camera.. Ive compared it.. 3 mpx more is just marketing trick.. Objcetive and senzor size is pretty much same, and i dont see diffrence in pictures.. To recap,i really like my HD2 camera..
And for the theme, i hope that devs will develop rom with 720p recording..

[Q]I9000 camera 1080p recording

Hi
Read that the i9000 hardware can encode/decode 1080p video.
and that the camera is capable of this.
is there a camera apk that has this?
what is involved in making one?
or is this just impossible to accomplish?
i dont think the phone can handle filming at 1080p in my opinion. 720p is awesome anyway even more so on a phone...
One thing i do know is that i can stream HD (1080p) movies from my pc to my phone and that plays perfectly..

Yea, heard that too - Galaxy Tab with the same hardware can handle it, but some kernel drivers of Galaxy S doesn't support it... Thanks to Samsung
is there a dev around that could say what kind of drivers are needed in the kernal?
maybe we could do something when the S2 comes out.
would a nice addition...

with android 2.3 and 2.4 it can handle it.
What's the point on that;It would capture 1080p in too low frame rate.

Like marcodoncarlos stated, the tab can handle it with the same hardware (30fps I think) so our phones would be able to handle it just fine if given the proper software.

[MOD][HELP]Recording in 640x480.

I'm trying to modify the resolution video recording in which stock S5830i is 320x240.
It seems that could change the parameters of maximum resolution to 640x480, and could use, but only on a webcam app, in it the selection of resolution to be used.
The camera does not have a native setting of 640x480, so who can give a solution or know of an application that can replace the camera app for recording and has the ability to select the resolution, please, will help.
Thank you.
(sorry my english)
I'm pretty certain the problem is due to hardware limitations, and not related to the software.
You could get a new phone.
Yep. It is the hardware limitations.
You can try to force it to record in 480p just like they did in the Galaxy Mini forums I guess.
Try lgcamera and see if recording in 480p works.

Guys, I'm trying a procedure in which a friend here at XDA made to enable 720p camera in front for the Galaxy Tab
And VideoCore 4 (BCM2763) is capable of recording in full HD. BCM2763
Apparently I managed to gain some quality and would like to share, I begin to compare.
Thanks system.img at lgcamera.
Check below, the two comparative videos
640x480

Yes, the GPU is capable for recording 1080p, it has to encode the camera data, so why can't we mod it?

I'm recording at 480p smoothly.
As the guys have not replied to the topic, here I will post instructions on how to make change for those interested.
The file that should be changed is the media_profiles that is in / etc. I'll post here the file has changed.
Procedure (root is required):
1 - Download the file and put the sd card - File in my dropbox
2 - With full access to the root, move and replace the file to the / etc
3 - Restart the phone
4 - Install Lgcamera (PlayStore)
5 - In Lgcamera select resolution 640x480
Ready. Just write!
Thanks!

if we get GPU drivers from Broadcom then we can record 1080p HD videos ???
Guys Broadcom Will be releasing a CM7.2 with full CPU and GPU Source if everything goes okay.
If everything goes okay, im pretty sure we will be able to record in 720p or maybe even 1080p which i personally think would not be possible with 5MP camera.

I do not know, but I will try.
; D
I went and tested this a bit...
Any resolution above 640x480 - glitched camera, but you can still see shapes and motion moving and stuff like that so I don't know it it's the firmware;
Camera fully crashes when trying 720p or higher
Only works on H.264 encode, anything else it will crash
Seems to be very good at handling bitrate, as expected, because of the GPU, I tested up to 5Mbit but i'm sure it can handle more, gets a bit jittery though. 2Mbit looks like 'enough' for this resolution
(320p/20fps/?1mbit are factory defaults)
480p/20fps/5mbit seems to be the best option
edit: Must use ARM_NB audio encoder and record in 20fps or it will be out of sync

The videocard (VideoCore IV) can handle 1080p at 1.5GPixel/Sec.
Does this mean the camera could also handle this?

@vishal: No u can do nothing, its called improving pixel density, this is hardware issue and u cannot do this. Only solution is to buy a new phone.
I can understand that. I was disapointed too (at that time i was a complete noob when i bought mini - 1st smatphone) But thnx to xda its
better now.
Well you can! Not so as you want but will surely make you minis screen virtually bigger
Just install LCD Resolution OR LCD Density.
Both apps tweak the density of the screen.
So run any app(LCD Resolution recommended), and just lower density to 110. Simple.
*some apps may crash.
