Does anyone have any good suggestions for a good Stylus for the 7? Or even better, a pressure sensitive stylus for the 7?
I remember reading a while back that several companies were looking to produce pressure sensitive styli to use with capacitive touch screens. But I haven't seen anything in a while.
Any good suggestions?
I have a Cosmonaut stylus from Studio Neat. I use it on the iPad and it works great, but it didn't work so well on my Touchpad. Project Butter will probably make that better though.
Just picked this up. http://www.amazon.com/elago-Stylus-iPhone-Replaceable-included/dp/B0052WESJ0/
It feels great in the hand, will hopefully know performance wise shortly.....
Any update on the performance?

Anyone have experience with the Cosmonaut?
I haven't seen a stylus with more fine point, more pen-like pointer tip. The head of these stylus are big which is difficult to make fine edge drawing. Anyone see anything better?

I have the cosmonaut and it's really good. It mostly meant for drawing but it works pretty well for writing as well. However, I haven't used it on the Nexus 7 yet.

Theres the Adonit Jot Pro. There is also the Just Mobile AluPen Pro and the Cregle iPen digitizer. According to the Verge Review, the Cregle iPen digitizer was not good.
I, unfortunately, am not able to post the link to the review because I am a new user on XDA.

Adonit Jot Pro. Users comments,
"one problem i have with it, is that after about 4 weeks of moderated and not very hardcore use, it tend to lose its sensitivity, and i have to scratch the plastic disc a bit, to make the connection work. and even now i have to press hard on the iPad, which is very unpleasant, considering how fragile you think the device is.

I am very disappointed with the jot pro, the little plastic disc wears out after about 2 hours of moderate note taking. DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY

Just Mobile AluPen Pro. Too bad it uses the big rubber to draw, the other fine pin ball to draw on paper.

to fix the loose & sensitivity issue with the jot pro, fold a piece of tin foil twice to form 4 layers, and snap the tip into the disk with the aluminium foil in between. It will cut perfectly and temporarily fix the issue. Rinse & Repeat

Thanks for the info! I'm really only considering a stylus for highlighting PDFs, but I would imagine that wouldn't need ultra fine precision?

Here is a pretty good review, covering a wide ranges of stylus available on the market.
http://www.theverge.com/2012/4/10/2925937/best-stylus-ipad-review
They review for the iPad but I believe those should work well with the Nexus 7 as they’re all used for capacitive screens.

Sorry guys, was testing on my G2 but wanted to wait until I received my tablet before I gave a few impressions.
As I said, it feels great in the hand, almost exactly like a slightly oversized pencil. Sensitivity was sketchy on my G2 with a screen protector, but it is perfect on my bare Nexus 7. If anyone is interested I will be trying out the "Markers" app tomorrow, as well as putting the screen protector on.

Does anyone have any experience using any of the Jot stylus'?
It is suppose to be the most accurate stylus on the market. Unfortunately I have only seen them sold in stores at Staples.
I currently have a Griffin stylus which works just fine, but I'm always looking for something more accurate.

I tried one in a store on my nexus 7, the tip is nicer than in the picture so I don't think that it will scratch like some complaints have said. Having said that, it does take a bit of pressure to register, and it makes an annoying clicking sound when you press it against the screen.

There's a sizable thread about it from the Tf101 forum here. The OP thinks (thought?) they're amazing and at least for a little while, someone from Jot posted there, answering questions and responding to issues.
I have tried many.. This one is the best of them all . but far from perfect. The jot touch Does not work with android. Boohoo. I so miss the note 10.1 tablet.
I have the Jot pro. The disk are delicate and does not work on most of the premium screen protectors. It will stick to them and not slide almost sticks solid to the screen. Get a 3.00 plastic type protector and you will do well with it.Just do not loose it as i did . My second one will be here Friday. Tomorrow .
I wish there was something that worked as well as my wacom intuios 4 .. I so love that thing...

What do you mean it doesn't work on android? It is the same as any other capacitive touch screen stylus other than that the tip is clear. It's still conducting electrons from your finger to the screen so it should work on any capacitve touchscreen device.
Edit: Oh whoops, I just realized you were talking about the Jot Touch. I thought you were talking about the Jot Pro. My bad.
I have tried them and sadly they are not that great. You easily scratch your screen and the pivot can be awkward sometimes, feeling unnatural.

It does work.. Just not correctly.. the far right of the tablet surface stops about half way across the Nexus screen in sketch pad pro.. In quill it works in portrait mode There is no way to try and set anything up . I have not tried pressure settings on quill .. I will do so now maybe ...
Just tested again since 4.2 Same issue as above But with lecture note it will now detect buttons and pressure. Someone could write a driver to make it work I am very sure now.. I would pay 150.00 for a stylus to work. Maybe even up to 200.00..

Actually we don't say 'coming soon', we've always said there's no firm date for the release of our Android SDK and we can't provide a timeline for completion.
I would be glad to entertain the idea of putting this up on kickstarter if there is enough interest. Would require a hefty amount of research and dev however.

My idea for that would be to integrate a sleek kickstand on the back of the case.
Currently I would say that the back plate would have to integrate some sort of kickstand. I think this wouldnt be too hard to do. Also, if you lay your Note 2 across your keyboard to see just how many keys would fit on this, you would notice that it isnt too far off from a cramped up netbook-style keyboard. I think it would be usable for most people.
I want a cover that has a cutout for the back camera so it wouldn't be awkward to take a picture.

I would just let the cover hang down when taking a pic. Honestly I think that the huge hole in the cover would defeat the purpose of having the keyboard there in the first place. It just wouldnt work. And that hole would look straight up stupid when the cover would be closed. Idk .

Love XDA. Fresh ideas every day.
I like it!
there are some bluetooth keyboards that you could hack up to make a mockup..
Honest questions: does MS have a pending patent for this design? If so, would it affect the development?
I'd support that, but depending on how long development would be. Lots of Kickstarter projects take forever to start shipping. I might be on the Note 3 by then...
I'd prefer a slide out KB case. How much would this cost? If it's like $100 no thanks

Great idea. Great mock-up. Spread ther word
I'd buy it although I haven't used a "querty" for over 2 years.
I would probably look really close at buying it if it were on the shelf right now. I think it is a terrible idea from a financial perspective. You have to look at how many of these phones are out there and what percent of people would buy. Like the other poster stated, we will be on a newer generation phone by the time this comes out.
You are also screwing yourself because all this money and time goes into one particular item for only one model of phone. Don't waste your time or money. Try to find something universal that many different phone owners can use.
THE problems with this.
1) The vast majority of users are perfectly happy typing on their screen.
2) Obviously, since it is so small, the idea of "touch" typing is out. It will still be hunt and peck.
3) If this is laying flat on your desk as you type, what is to keep it from sliding all over the place every time you hit the keypad? The Note II doesn't weigh enough to keep it in place.
4) Flip cases are already expensive. One with a kickstand and keyboard will be prohibitively so. Does the user receive enough additional benefit to justify the additional cost?
5) M$ spent a lot of money creating their flip cover keyboard. You would probably run into patent infringement left and right.
I think this would be one of those products that looks cool which no one buys - or at least not in the volume necessary. Think about it this way. Cases have been around for a long time manufactured by companies always looking for ways to make money. Since no one has tried anything like this you have to ask yourself why not? Probably because they determined they could not make any money.
Cool idea, won't work. You are trying to turn a handheld device into a desktop device. The ergonomics are all wrong.
Hi. For sure this is not a new idea (Surface) but it looks interesting. However the biggest issue is the size of the keyboard. It is too small in order to use it like a small Surface.
Looking good. I will consider to buy it.
it's a solid idea. Obviously, from a business standpoint, I"m like others and question how well it sell for various price points versus the cost.
The other issue I see, the cover lends itself to a landscape mode on the phone only. As one who uses a BT keyboard with the phone at times, not all apps are landscape friendly. I have Freedom Pro portable blue tooth keyboard; supports both HID and PTP formats.
Plus given the same of the cover, it may not be that user friendly for regular typing. The keyboard to type on would be about the size a chatpad used on controllers for video game consoles. Unfortunately, their size of my thumb typing friendly versus ten finger typing (what an awkward way to stated that).
I do agree there is a market for something that is compact, extremely portable, for phablets to type on. There is a reason way the Surface has it, there are quite a few for iPad and other tablets. Personally, I don't really like using virtual keyboards; I hold great disdain to autocorrect. II may be more old school since I've been using full keyboards for around thirty years, so it's basically ingrained into me the correct feel.
It's possible a slide out keyboard may be a better option in this situation. The bad part, added bulk. Not everyone is like me and doesn't care how think of phone gets. The plus side, if designed right, no need for a flat surface around, thus can use while just out an about, say at a bus stop. Then again, it could be redundant with the size of the phone which also influences it's own virtual keyboard.

I love the Windows keyboard (see windows key at the top left corner). If you do go Kickstarter, I would change that to an Android symbol. I agree about possible litigation. I would check make sure MS or something get a patent on a cover keyboard. If they did, you could still do it, just need to work out the royalty with them that makes sense for you to be profitable.

I wouldn't consider it a discount, but instead it was because 10 was the lowest I could find. Next was 20 and 100, and there's no way I'd buy 100!
It was quite a good price though I think. It cost about $8 per case and about $4 postage per case, and I ended up paying about $130 for a total of ten cases, which makes each case about $13 including postage.

Hard to say, its circular as opposed to long and slender like on most phones. I think a lot will depend on the audio hardware they use, which is kind of an unknown.
its right up there with camera quality, we wont know how good it is till we use the phone.

Cant think of any smartphones that use a small circlular ear piece off the top of my head... would be curious to get my hands on one or see reviews just to see if its an issue.

Yeah me too.
I don't understand why they made the "chin" so big either.

Yeah the Nexus 4 camera was not that good.. It's good but the terrible auto focus kind of kills it.

Exactly the autofocus was the main issue

probably some internal components location relative to the screen or other significant part (battery, radio etc), as a prototype engineer/machinist I see compromises like that made all the time. The fact that they got a 5" screen into a frame smaller then the N4 is pretty significant and was probably due to a few design/construction compromises.

This is very true, good point :good:
It's still pretty amazing they fit a bigger screen in the same size as the 4 :highfive:

That was one thing I kinda didn't like about the stock Moto X camera app. Instead of touching to focus, it is touch the focus+shoot. It confused me.

I like the chin on phones.. especially when they dont have the home/back/menu buttons on them. gives me a place to hold when im holding it sidways to take pictures..that way my hand wont touch anything before i actually want to take the shot..also, a phone without a chin would be a bit ugly in my honest opinion. Loving the form factor of this phone, all except for the lens..but hey, its a nexus, cant complain when its 200+ dollars cheaper than most phones off contract.

You make a very great point. I wouldn't want "no" chin, but the N5 (based on the short lived play store photo) is definitely better than the chin on other phones I've had.

Anyone know if Samsung will bring the keyboard cover to North America?
It's on the global site - but no info:
http://www.samsung.com/global/galaxy/galaxy-note8/accessories/
It's on the Korean site for sale though:

Man alive, I've been looking high and dry for this. No idea why it's not for sale yet in the States. Been wanting this case as much as the Note8 itself.
Ditto. I've had this for my last 2 Sammys (Note7, S8) and will buy this the second it is available. Great case and the keyboard is nice to use on the train.
You can get this right now for $70 on ebay (there's exactly 1 listing of it), but it's a korean model with dual kr/en labeling on the keys.
I wonder if this would "clip on" to other 3rd party cases (i.e. UAG, Spigen, etc..
That is very cool. I've never been good at typing on virtual keyboards. This would be great to have.

I ordered one thanks for the tip. Should realize not to limit myself to Amazon. I did Google it but ebay listing didn't come up. I saw two listings both had English keyboard one said in the description dual English /Korean. I'll keep everyone posted.

I ordered and asked them about Korean. They sent a picture and yes it does have English/Korean. I'd rather not have the English shrunk to accommodate the Korean which is useless for me however it seems to me that it's not coming out here in the USA. I wasn't following the s8 when it came out, was the keyboard case released with it amongst its accessories or did it come later?
Is the keyboard cover heavy? And will it scratch the bottom of the phone a lot?
Looks interesting. Was a huge fan of the hardware keyboard on the HP Pre3.
About this Note 8 keyboard, does it work well if you have put on a tempered glass screen protector?
Also, are you forced to use the case that comes with it, or can you use it with third-party cases of similar thickness?

Based in the reviews I've watched it looks well made not heavy and will not scratch phone. I'll update when I get it.

I just got it and they keys feel great. It will only work with the case it comes with. It won't scratch the screen and probably will work with screen protector. One flaw with Korean is the period is a dollar sign so you have to press and hold for a second and the it's a period. It's not backlit they should at least made it glow in the dark. I'll probably memorize it soon enough. Size wise it is a little smaller then the on screen smallest size Samsung keyboard. Buttons have real nice click and feel. No cursor arrows.
I figured out how to fix the period issue. So working perfect. Definitely could use backlight but hopefully soon will learn to type without looking.

Unfortunately this keyboard layout is QWERTZ, not QWERTY version
I really want this keyboard cover for my Note 8, does anybody have an idea when it will be sold here in the States?
