Pretty sure it won't work. Wireless 360 controllers do not send a signal through the USB charging cable. Only power. Same reason you can't use a wireless controller on the PC without buying the wireless transmitter thing that they don't make anymore.

Yup confirming this is correct. Didn't know they stopped making it, good thing I got one.

They still make the wireless transmitter but you need to buy the controller with it.
Not sure if I'm missing something here but I've picked up a USB OTG cable today. If I plug in my PS3 controller it just flashes, I don't seem to be be able to do anything. What am I doing wrong guys?
EDIT
Ignore that, working fine.

Do games natively support controllers, must they be mapped, or do you need an app of some kind to get it to work?

It depends on the game. Dead Trigger and GTA 3 have native gamepad support, but NOVA 3 doesnt.
Sixaxis was updated last night works amazing as always. And dead trigger has native support for sixaxis?

Try this mapping from the S3 for NOVA3. Let me know how it works for you.
I can't remember where I got it from but it works great on my S3. You might have to config for larger screen though.

U can use a wiimote via bluetooth
Wii remotes are Bluetooth and work? Can I get one of the ones that look like a normal Nintendo controller, rather than those notion sensor ones?
Just go grab any old one from the store?

Read this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=892754
At minimum you will need:
A Wiimote (~$40)
A classic controller (~$20), these come in two varieties, one like a SNES controller, and one more like a gamecube? (More shoulder buttons.) This will set up the Wiimote as a keyboard, which you can then set up as a custom controller.
us.codejunkies.com has a datel wireless wii remote that looks like a classic snes controller. Or was it nes? anyway, I ordered one today, guess we'll see if it works...

He's talking about using the OTH method, rather than the Bluetooth method.
As for any working, I have no idea, since I haven't made an OTG setup for my tablet yet. It's on my to-do list.

Yes I am talking about the OTG method. In my current location I really struggle to get anything so any advice on what I should buy to play games?
After checking all the threads I could find for those using various OTG setups, there do not seem to be any game controllers working that way. BT is going to be your best option here and there are several game pads that will work well with the touchpad.
Sent from my cm_tenderloin using Tapatalk 2
I'm not sure specifically about the TP, but on my Nexus S, as long as you had ICS and a kernel that supported OTG, then there were a number of game pads you could use through OTG such as a wired 360 controller and some Logitech ones.
You can check the link in my sig for more info.
I'll try and test this out on my TP sometime this week when I get a chance.

The SixAxis app uses bluetooth to connect your Playstation 3 controller, I have it working on my rooted N7105.
Try the SixAxis compatability checker first to check whether your phone will run SixAxis
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dancingpixelstudios.sixaxiscompatibilitychecker
I have read that you can use a usb otg cable to plug a playstation or xbox 360 controller in to your phone but I haven't tried that.
There are also MOGA controllers that were released last month but there are limited games that work with the controller.
Another new controller is Nyko.
If you have a Playstation 3 controller and you phone is rooted then the sixaxis app is definitely the cheapest and best way forward.

Another option is to use the free app wiimote controller in the app store to connect a wii remote via Bluetooth.. You can use the standard wii controller if you only need two buttons. Or you can use the Wii classic controller or Classic controller pro if you need a more PS3/Xbox like controller. My daughter had the Wii classic controller pro lying around, so I didn't have to buy anything. Its works fine on my Gnex and Nexus 7 (waiting on Note 2) with NES, SNES, PSX, and N64 emulators and some apps from the app store that allow you to choose your input method.

I have xbox360 controllers and from what I read it works out of the box with the wireless transmitter.
My question is does it work with normal android games or just with emulators?

Some games have controller support. A list of games that work with controllers can be found here:
http://www.videomap.it/forum/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=4
moga, 8bitty, iMpulse
go to google and see which fits you. The other solutions mentioned are great as well.
I definetly tell that PS3 sixaxis bluetooth gamepad + "Sixaxis Controller" (~1,5$) with touch emulation makes every games compatible.
It's really amazing ! Trust me you won't regret ! ^^

No, it doesn't make all games compatible. There are some games that still cannot be matched due to how the controls are set up. I'll grant you a huge number are able to work, but not every game. Spreading overly optimistic untruths isn't helping the OP or anyone else make a good decision about which controller to get.
(PS3 controller + Root and Sixaxis is my favourite though)
Well i was maybe too much optimistic but despite the fact that the sixaxis ps3 gamepad have 'only' 10 buttons two joysticks and a cross to map on the screen .. i understand that you cannot play easily a game that have plenty of buttons ... But with the sixaxis controller software you can also enable mouse support (as for me i use the right joystick plus r1/r2 for left and right click) and i can assure you that you can play any game !
Tell me what game you cannot use with this solution ? I'll take a look for you ...

Nyko playpad pro looks good to me. Ive been doing lots of hunting online for a decent gamepad myself. Moga, snakebyte idroid, nyko playpad pro. Are the 3 wireless dual analogue stick android controllers ive been looking at it seems there are advantages and disadvantages to all of them. check em out on you tube and see which works for u. It seems there all due to be released here in the uk soon if your in the usa there released already. The nyko playpad pro is available in sainsburys in the uk on the 7th of december for £44.99.
Android gaming and game controllers is work in progress there doesnt seem to be one to use with every game yet as the games themselves have to support controllers the controllers have apps which are supposed to let you remap your buttons for games which dont support controllers but this is not full proof yet.

My PS3 knowledge is weak, but I don't think it functions as a DLNA server for connecting to. I think it can only connect to other devices acting as DLNA servers.

In order for your ps3 to read your files they need to be in specific folders. You need a ps3 folder in the root of the USB device with music, video and photo folders inside of it. And your music inside the music folder. Also the USB device needs to be formatted fat32

You would need this at least since the PS3 doesn't have an IR receiver. http://www.logitech.com/en-us/product/5732
I have one on the PS3 in the living room for my Harmony and briefly tried to it it up in the TV app but then quickly gave up.

You can actually use any brand TV that has control over HDMI as long as your PS3 is a Slim or newer.
Does anyone know of an app the would allow your phone to act as a Bluetooth controller for the PS3? This might let us control the media functions of the PS3 through the TV app. Just curious.

I have found a few older posts stating that you cannot pair the HTC One with a PS3 controller, but nothing particularly recent. I'm running the Android Revolution ROM that is based on Android 4.2.2. I also have a Wiimote and a Wii U Pro controller: I'd love to use any of the damn things on this device, mainly so I can connect the phone to my TV and play old NES and SNES games. Thanks in advance.

I looked briefly into this about a week ago. Basically, we can't. I think there may be some ROMs out there that support the particular Bluetooth protocol we need, but Stock and AD 4.2.2 do not.
